Bob Odenkirk stars in “Better Call Saul,” which returns for its third season Monday on AMC THIS WEEK

Week of April 9 - 15, 2017

BY GEORGE DICKIE
W hen last seen in the second-season finale of the AMC’s “Better Call Saul,” morally flexible Albuquerque lawyer Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) was confessing a felony to brother Chuck (Michael McKean) inside his sibling’s home, which the fellow barrister had lined with foil to protect him from the electrical waves he was certain were eating away at his brain. Upon Jimmy’s exit, Chuck leaned forward, pushed away a foil panel and pressed the stop button on a tape recorder he used to record the conversation, the elaborate con an apparent success.
So as Season 3 of the critically-acclaimed AMC drama gets underway Monday, April 10, the troubled relationship of the two brothers comes into sharper focus as we see the chickens start to come home to roost for Jimmy and he begins to lose hope that he can ever have a real relationship with his older brother.
“I think that he’s running out of (hope) that his brother
will give him an open chance to prove himself,” Odenkirk says, “and he’s finding out that’s actually the case, that it’s closed shop, the legal profession, at least as far as his brother is concerned towards him. And a closed heart as well. His brother is not ever going to give him a chance and he’s really finally coming to grips with that.”
The repercussions of Chuck’s scheme will rock Jimmy’s world in several ways, not the least of which is his fledgling legal practice with Kim (Rhea Seehorn), with whom he is also romantically involved.
“She’s a damn good lawyer and a well-composed person,” Odenkirk says, “who has chosen, I think due to affection, to side with Jimmy even though she probably knows he’s not necessarily in the right. But that’s a pretty great partnership right at the start of this season, and through most of the season it’s a pretty great relationship that they’re painting here, of people who support each other, even in difficult times. I can’t wait for everyone to
see that. I love the choice that Kim makes. I mean, as a viewer, as a person watching the story on some level, I love that she makes this choice to support Jimmy. She’s on his team.”
As for what this apparently honest, hard-working attorney might see in this flawed man who would go on to become shyster Saul Goodman in “Breaking Bad,” Odenkirk indicates that looks can be deceiving.
“Some part of her is excited by his talents for duplicity and for danger; we’ve seen her cooperate and participate in some of his scams,” he says. “So she’s got an interesting past as well. We don’t know it but she clearly (is an) interesting, complex character herself. She’s a person who seems to follow the straight and narrow path rigorously in her own life, but she clearly, as we’ve seen in these glimpses and these moments where she participates in some of Jimmy’s scams, maybe she’s not as much of a straight arrow as we thought.”

The final season of “Switched at Birth” is drawing to a close, but the series finale isn’t the only huge episode this season. Reaching 100 episodes is a huge mile marker for any TV show, and this one is particularly poignant since it also marks the beginning of the end for Freeform’s groundbreaking series.
Screener caught up with Lea Thompson to chat about the 100th episode, titled “Memory (The Heart),” and her pivotal role as director.
“It just snuck up on us, and then when it snuck up on us is when they said we’re not doing any more, so it’s really been like a rollercoaster of emotions,” Thompson says. “I think we’ve done a lot of great work. I’m proud of it. I’m proud of the last ten episodes ... I’m really honored that they let me direct it, the 100th episode. We’ve had a great time. We’ve had a great run, and it’s been very civilized and kind and a great experience these five years.”
Directing the 100th episode is as big of a responsibility as it is an honor.
BY LINDSAY MACDONALD @ZAP2IT.COM
“Directing is really great, and it’s so fun for me.” Thompson says. “It just makes me fall in love with the show over and over again and fall in love with the actors. Each one of them, I get to fall in love with again as I’m directing them. They’re such skilled and kind and professional people.”
One of those people is, of course, fan favorite Gilles Marini.
Marini played Angelo Sarrento, Daphne’s (Katie Leclerc) father and Bay’s (Vanessa Marano) biological father. Angelo died after crashing his car into a tree in Season 3, and hasn’t been seen on the show since. Luckily, he makes a very touching reappearance in the 100th episode.
“It’s really nice that they figured out a way to have Gilles back,” Thompson says. “Our audience loved him, and we love him. He’s wonderful.”

If you can imagine it, YouTube’s Yolanda Gampp can ‘Cake It’
Yolanda Gampp says she doesn’t have to look far for ideas for the novelty cakes she creates on her YouTube channel “How to Cake It.” Inspiration, she explains, is everywhere.
“It’s hard for me to look at an object and not wonder if I could make it out of cake,” the Torontoarea native says. “For the channel, we love coming up with cake ideas inspired by what’s going on in the world, whether it’s Easter, a big movie release like ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ or Earth Day. We also get a ton of amazing fan requests.”
Whether it’s a whole roasted turkey, a human heart or dragon eggs from “Game of Thrones,” Gampp is a master at making art out of batter and frosting. She discovered her passion as a child 19 years ago and gradually honed her craft with the help of books, the George Brown culinary arts program in Toronto and lots of practice. That led to a baking business (celebrity clients have included novelist George R.R. Martin and Jordan Knight of New Kids on the Block) and a stint on the 2012 Food Network Canada series “SugarStars.” Though that series was canceled after one season, it was there that she met Connie Contardi and Jocelyn Mercer, with whom she would create “How to Cake It” in 2015.
Two years and more than 200 episodes later, her channel has 2.8 million subscribers and had more than 258 million views. The baking business is shuttered and her time is now spent baking, filming and caring for her husband and toddler son. And she’s one of YouTube’s rising stars.
“The series is my cake business now,” Gampp says. “Instead of making one cake for one client at a time, I now make a new cake every week for all the amazing fans that follow me on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook, to name a few of the places. It’s amazing.”

What book are you currently reading?
“I’m a mom with an active toddler and my own business – what are books and what is reading? Ha. When I do have time to read it’s usually on my phone and one of my fave blogs is The Rebel Mama.”
What did you have for dinner last night?
“I had some down time with my hubby and son actually, and we indulged at an amazing burger place in Toronto called Burger’s Priest. Then we finished that off with some of the city’s best donuts from The Rolling Pin. I don’t think we could have eaten more calories if we’d tried.”
When was your last vacation, where and why?
“Jocelyn, Connie and I get to travel, which is always so much fun because we end up exploring amazing restaurants and shopping. But my last true vacation was taking my husband to New York City and Brooklyn for his 40th. It wasn’t relaxing, but it was fun and filled with good food and wine.”

‘Chelsea’ wants us to laugh at government
‘Chelsea’ wants us to at government – because it’s better than cr ying – because it’s better than crying
With all that’s going on with our government these days, Chelsea Handler feels we all need a refresher course in civics. And so in the second season of her Netflix talk show “Chelsea,” that’s just what she will do.
“For instance,” she says, “these last couple of months I was very curious about the judicial system and the different courts. When Trump was trying to pass the travel ban (with) the Appellate Court versus the Ninth Circuit Court versus the Supreme Court, I feel like so many of us require a civics lesson, so I love having people on who can kind of explain what all that stuff means in a kind of watered-down version, so that we can all kind of make it more digestible.”
Fans of Handler and “Chelsea” will notice a few tweaks in the show’s second season, which streams Fridays beginning April 14. In addition to her frank commentary, candid conversations and appearances by celebrities and people from all walks of life, the series will also feature remote pieces from places such as Montana, London, Paris and India. There will also be fewer episodes (30, down from 90 in Season 1) but they will expand from 30 to 60 minutes and will be produced once a week.
“Doing the show three times a week wasn’t really giving me

enough opportunity to ... delve deeper into the topics that I really want to explore more on the show,” Handler explains. “So it felt a little choppy, it didn’t give me enough time with my interview guests and we just felt like an hour format lends itself better to the kind of show I want to do now.
“So if I want to focus an episode on climate change,” she continues, “it’s not a half hour of climate change; it’s an hour where I can talk to experts and talk to people who are passionate about it, you know, mix in celebrities who have really fought hard against climate change, etc. So it gives us an opportunity to kind of make the shows more thematic; instead of having like a thematic show two or three times a month, we can have one each week.”

With “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” now returning after a hiatus of several months, how do you feel this season of the show has gone?
It’s incredible, man! Andre (Braugher) got nominated for a Critics’ Choice Television Award, and Andy (Samberg) got nominated for a People’s Choice Award, so it couldn’t be better. In the fourth season, we’ve been rolling like you would not believe.
We don’t really have to second-guess anything anymore, you know what I mean? We just go for it, and we rock.
The show has set up certain annual traditions, such as a Halloween story and a Christmas-caroling competition. Do you still enjoy those?
Yeah, actually, Halloween has just gotten better and better every year. They’ve set up this world in the show where everyone expects certain things and everybody is really comfortable with them, and it’s really become where our fan base has grown worldwide. And now that we’re going to be syndicated (in repeats) on TBS and have new episodes on Fox, it’s double the fun.
You’ve had lots of opportunities in entertainment, including hosting shows and doing specials such as “Terry Crews Saves Christmas.” What do you chalk that up to?
This is the deal. One thing that I realized when I was a kid was that you were told, “OK, you can be anything you want to be.” Then you tell them what you want to do, and they suddenly turn around and say, “What makes you think you can do that?” And you’re like, “Wait a minute! You just said ... .”
I find that you always have to have courage. You always have to just challenge the norm and what everyone says and expects. What I decided was, “Things that I want to do, I’m going to do. Just try it. Just do it.”

Jenna Elfman of “Imaginary Mary” on ABC
“I actually don’t watch TV. I’m just living life with my kids and I don’t watch television, as strange as that sounds. ... I love television. I just really don’t have time to watch it. ... I like to watch movies if it’s something we all watch together, so we all watch Marx Brothers together and we watch Gene Kelly movies together and that’s kind of what we find ourselves doing. My kids love Marx Brothers and they love Gene Kelly. I just watch whatever they’re watching, I want them to watch masters in whatever it is that they do so that they have an example of the importance of becoming a pro in whatever you do.”

Pierce Brosnan of “The Son” on AMC

“I’m not an avid TV watcher, but I started ‘Game of Thrones’ and I’ve continued with that. I’ve lost ‘House of Cards’ along the way a little bit ... and that’s it, really. Bless her, Beau (St. Clair, Brosnan’s late producing partner) would say, ‘You’ve got to watch this’ or ‘You’ve got to watch that,’ because we were looking for a vehicle for me to go back to TV. It’s stability, financial stability.”

Hank Azaria of “Brockmire” on IFC
“I am now in the middle of Season 4 of ‘Vikings,’ which I’ve really been enjoying. And ‘Survivor’ just premiered last night; I’m a big ‘Survivor’ fan. I’m a huge ‘Game of Thrones’ guy. ‘Breaking Bad’ I think is my favorite television of all time. I’m a huge fan of this current Golden Age of Television that we’re in – or second Golden Age of whatever. I tend to be more drawn toward the dramas because I really love following a narrative. I think that’s what cable can do incredibly well, is tell a story.”

Noah Cappe of “Carnival Eats” on Cooking Channel
“Like everybody in this day and age, I feel like I’m juggling 17 different shows at the same time.
... Right now, I’m watching ‘The Young Pope,’ that new Jude Law (series), and I’m watching a series on Netflix called ‘The Fall,’ which is tracking a serial killer. Gillian Anderson from ‘The X-Files’ is in it. ... And I don’t know why, I can’t stop watching this show on History called ‘The Curse of Oak Island.’ ”

The city of Houston has hosted several key major sporting events in recent years, including the 2016 NCAA Men’s Final Four and of course, most recently, Super Bowl LI earlier this year. Now they’re hosting the Super Bowl of bass fishing in the form of the Bassmaster Classic, which airs Saturday and Sunday, April 15 and 16 on ESPN2. The tournament takes place on Lake Conroe, a 21,000-acre reservoir north of Houston. Weigh-ins will take place at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros.
Although he’s fished in 15 Classics, pro angler Shaw Grigsby has yet to bag bass fishing’s biggest prize. Still, the 61-yearold angler who hosts the popular fishing show One More Cast has quite a list of accomplishments in his sport, including nine Bassmaster Elite Series tournament wins and nearly 60 top-ten finishes. Along the way he’s weighed in over 9,500 pounds of fish, earning over $2 million.
Despite the fact that, like golf, fishing is a popular leisurely sport, it is not an easy one to compete in at its highest level. Anglers have certain skills they excel at, and those they don’t, and weather is always a factor over the course of a multiple-day event. Despite what Mother Nature serves up, the bass fishing show almost always goes on. Grigsby is known as one of the better sight-fisherman (targeting fish on their beds) on the circuit and perhaps in Houston his best skill will earn him a Bassmaster Classic title.

C h e c k i n g i n w i t h Checking in with
After doing a couple of other series for the network, Philip Winchester has found “Justice” at NBC.
The veteran of “The Player” and “Crusoe” – as well as the Cinemax action saga “Strike Back” – arguably is the first among equals in the Sunday drama “Chicago Justice,” the newest show in executive producer Dick Wolf’s Windy City franchise. Winchester is front-and-center as tough but compassionate prosecutor Peter Stone, whose lineage can be traced earlier in Wolf’s oeuvre: He’s the somewhat estranged son of Ben Stone, the fellow attorney played by Michael Moriarty in the early years of the original “Law & Order” series.
“He took the chance ... all the chance,” the friendly Winchester says of initially meeting with Wolf about the role. “He said, ‘Let’s give it a shot. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work.’ And we had an amazing (pilot) script, and we lucked out.”
Still, Winchester did due diligence in researching his role with a real-life lawyer: “We had dinner a few nights and just sat down and talked. And I watched him handle a case, and watched some of the guys he trains. Every day I get in there, I can’t believe I’m doing this. It is a lot of fun, because I can’t rely on any of the stuff I’ve relied on for the last seven years of my career.”
Though his work with Wesley Snipes on the action-driven “The Player” ended up being shortlived, it wasn’t long before Winchester got the call to “Justice.”
“I had a few months off in Montana with my wife and my daughter,” he recalls, “then (last year’s) pilot season rolled around, and I had a few things on the table. I was sitting in the car park at CBS and my agent called and said, ‘Dick Wolf wants to speak with you about his new show. Do you want to go meet him?’ And I said, ‘I would be a fool not to.’ I went up and chatted with him, and the rest is history.”
Birthdate: March 24, 1981
Birthplace and current residence: Montana
Marital status: Married; has a daughter
Other television credits include: “Chicago P.D.,” “The Player,” “Strike Back,” “Crusoe,” “24: Live Another Day,” “Camelot,” “Fringe,” “A Walk in My Shoes,” “Warehouse 13,” “Alice,” “Maneater,” “Great Performances: King Lear,” “CSI: Miami”
Movie credits include: “Undrafted,” “In My Sleep,” “Solomon Kane,” “The Heart of the Earth,” “Flyboys,” “Shaking Dream Land,” “Thunderbirds,” “The Patriot,” “The Hi-Line”
His foreign exchanges: Though his personal background is innately American, Winchester spent three years as a student at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and he has put in considerable time working overseas (particularly during “Strike Back,” which was filmed in South Africa and Hungary)

It’s baaa-aack! The cult favorite in which three robots and their human captive crack wise while watching cheesy B movies on the theater screen before them gets a reboot courtesy of Netflix and original creator Joel Hodgson. Revived by a Kickstarter campaign, the new iteration stars Jonah Ray as the host/prisoner, and skewers films yet to be announced in 14 episodes that drop Friday.

Favorite TV program you’re not on: “ ‘Brideshead Revisited,’ ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Breaking Bad.’ ”

“Chelsea: Season 2,” www.netflix.com/ title/80049872
Along with its mix of celebrity appearances, unfiltered commentary and frank conversation, the sophomore season of Chelsea Handler’s self-titled talk show will feature a few tweaks, including a longer onehour runtime, fewer episodes and field segments from places such as Paris, London, India and Montana. And then, of course, there are the dogs. Drops Friday.
“Sandy Wexler,” www. netflix.com/title/80126569
Dropping Friday, this Netflix original film stars Adam Sandler as the title character, a 1990s Los Angeles talent agent with a client list of eccentrics, who winds up falling for his newest client, a tremendously talented singer (Jennifer Hudson) who he discovered at an amusement park. The strong cast also includes Kevin James, Terry Crews, Lamorne Morris, Jane Seymour and Rob Schneider.
“Southpaw Regional Wrestling,” www.wwe. com/playlist/southpawregional-wrestling-thepromotion-you-didntknow-existed
Pro wrestling fans will appreciate this new series from WWE that simultaneously parodies and pays homage to the regional wrestling companies of yesteryear. The premise revolves around an old VHS tape found in WWE archives containing a promotion from 1987 in which top stars of the day (played by current stars such as John Cena, Chris Jericho and Fandango) are featured.

7 p.m. on KOED Call the Midwife
Mixed emotions greet a birth in the new “Episode 2” of Season 6, since the Nonnatus House staff knows the baby might not survive. Patsy (Emerald Fennell) becomes particularly wrapped up in the case while also trying to deal with a personal dilemma. An explosion at the docks prompts Shelagh (Laura Main) to show what she’s made of professionally. Sister Ursula’s (Harriet Walter) edicts continue to ruffle feathers. Jenny Agutter also stars.
8 p.m. on SHOW Homeland
This Emmy-winning suspense thriller never has aimed to offer purely escapist entertainment, and its sixth season — which ends tonight with the finale “America First” — has offered little relief from the real-life stresses of current U.S. politics, since it has dealt with the fallout from an American presidential election. All that Showtime reveals about this season finale is that “pieces fall into place,” but fans can take comfort that at least two more seasons of “Homeland” are on order. Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin star.
10 p.m. on AMC Talking With Chris Hardwick
One of the hardest working performers in show business, Chris Hardwick is in demand as a standup comic, hosts a weeknight Comedy Central game show called “At Midnight With Chris Hardwick” and also anchors the companion chatfest “Talking Dead” that airs when “The Walking Dead” and “Fear the Walking Dead” are in season. This new show, which airs on weeks when those two AMC dramas are not airing new episodes, finds Hardwick welcoming a single guest or cast from the world of pop culture for a one-hour interview.
8 p.m. on KOED American Experience
The 100th anniversary of America’s entry into World War I is marked by the new miniseries “The Great War,” airing nightly through Wednesday. The opening installment recalls President Woodrow Wilson’s determination to keep
the United States neutral in the Europe-based conflict, but volunteers rushed to engage in the battle anyway. Among those voicing the words of participants are Blythe Danner, Courtney B. Vance, Campbell Scott and Christopher Gorham.
9 p.m. on AMC Better Call Saul
Much as “Breaking Bad” was about a high-school teacher who transformed himself from Mr. Chips into Scarface, this prequel continues its chronicle of how basically nice-guy small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) devolves into the soulless and corrupt “Bad” attorney Saul Goodman, who takes on Walter White as a client. Tonight’s Season 3 premiere picks up as Chuck’s (Michael McKean) scheme to sabotage his brother makes it tough for Jimmy and Kim (Rhea Seahorn) to get their law practice off the ground.
9:30 p.m. on TBS Angie Tribeca
The executive producers of this cop show spoof fearlessly predict fans will find Season 3 “among the top three seasons of the show so far,” as Tribeca, Giles and Tanner (Rashida Jones, Hayes MacArthur, Deon Cole) undertake the pursuit of an animal-rights activist turned serial killer. It’s a case that takes them to New Orleans, New York, Miami and even outer space. Elsewhere, a divorced Lt. Atkins (Jere Burns) considers dating again and Dr. Scholls (Andree Vermeulen) struggles with a gambling addiction.
8 p.m. on KOED American Experience
The new miniseries “The Great War” continues as the second of three parts details the United States’ entry into World War I, though much of the country was divided over participating, giving President Woodrow Wilson a tough challenge in gaining support for the effort. He sought help in pushing propaganda designed to get Americans on the same page, but dissidents and racial issues posed hurdles that the creation of the Selective Service was meant to counter.
8 p.m. on HIST Forged in Fire
For Season 4 of this addictive and somewhat offbeat reality series, the show goes global for an unprecedented international competition and blacksmiths who were fan favorites in earlier seasons return for a second shot at victory. Also, for the first time, masters and apprentices team up to compete in the forge. U.S. Army and Air Force veteran Will Willis returns as host.
8:01 p.m. on FREE Switched at Birth
This family drama, which ends its run tonight after five seasons, had a somewhat soapy set-up in its premise, which found two families bonded by the discovery that their teenage daughters (Katie Leclerc,
Vanessa Marano) were inadvertently switched in a hospital mix-up. The show quickly transcended that gimmick, though, through another element: Leclerc’s character was deaf, and the show broke new ground by featuring multiple deaf and hard-of-hearing series regulars (including Leclerc herself).
9 p.m. on FX
The Americans Gabriel (Frank Langella) delivers a devastating body blow to Philip and Elizabeth (Matthew Rhys, Keri Russell) with a sudden announcement and a shattering revelation about Philip’s past in a new episode called “Crossbreed.” Elsewhere, Stan and Aderholt (Noah Emmerich, Brandon J. Dirden) draw a fly into their web. Costa Ronin also stars. Actress Roxann Dawson (“Star Trek: Voyager”) directed this episode.
7 p.m. on KOKI Shots Fired
Ashe and Preston (Sanaa Lathan, Stephan James) ponder whether Cory’s (guest star Marcus Clae) testimony will be credible enough against the sheriff’s department in the new “Hour 4: Truth.” They seek more evidence to support the case they intend to make. Governor Eamons’ (Helen Hunt) education strategy ultimately could harm her re-election campaign. Stephen Moyer, Will Patton, Mack Wilds, Aisha Hinds and Richard Dreyfuss also star.
8 p.m. on KOTV Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders
What happened to two U.S. flight attendants who landed in Singapore, then disappeared? That’s the question that the International Response Team tries to answer in the new episode “Cinderella and the Dragon,” with Garrett (Gary Sinise) and a local police inspector (guest star Tzi Ma) trying to work together effectively to find the missing duo. Alana De La Garza, Daniel Henney, Annie Funke and Tyler James Williams also star. Another episode follows.
8 p.m. on KOED American Experience
The conclusion of the new miniseries “The Great War” appropriately encompasses the end of World War I, with President Woodrow Wilson relying heavily on General John Pershing to ensure victory. While troops faced challenges on overseas battlefields, a flu outbreak

posed a crisis at home. Ultimately, foreign leaders sought a ceasefire on Wilson’s terms — and it took effect on Nov. 11, 1918, at a cost of 50,000 lives of the soldiers known as “doughboys.”
9 p.m. on KTUL Designated Survivor
It’s not exactly a bulletin that political progress sometimes takes strange bedfellows, and President Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) finds himself in such a match in the new episode “Party Lines.” To get his first piece of legislation passed, he forms an unexpected alliance. Hannah (Maggie Q) fears another attack on the nation may be imminent. Virginia Madsen continues her guest role. Natascha McElhone, Italia Ricci, Adan Canto and Kal Penn also star.
7 p.m. on KJRH Superstore
It’s often interesting what “Spring Cleaning” yields, as a new episode by that title confirms at Cloud 9. Some photos that Amy and Garrett (America Ferrera, Colton Dunn) find prove intriguing. Jonah (Ben Feldman) sets out to win Glenn’s (Mark McKinney) favor. Cheyenne’s (Nichole Bloom) fiance Bo (guest star Johnny Pemberton, “Son of Zorn”) becomes her co-worker and makes himself privy to what Dina and Mateo (Lauren Ash, Nico Santos) know.
8 p.m. on KQCW Riverdale
Molly Ringwald, the 1980s teenmovie icon (“Pretty in Pink”), joins this show’s cast in the new “Chapter Ten: The Lost Weekend” as Archie’s (KJ Apa) mother, whom his father (Luke Perry) is ready to divorce. Archie hopes for better romance for himself with Valerie (guest star Hayley Law), but Betty (Lili Reinhart) interferes in staging a surprise birthday party for Jughead (Cole Sprouse). Veronica (Camila Mendes) mulls assisting in her father’s release.
8 p.m. on DISC Sacred Cod
This sobering new special, airing under the Discovery Impact banner of environmental programs, chronicles the collapse of the oldest fishery in the United States, which has been driven to the edge of commercial extinction because of overfishing and the devastating impact of warming ocean waters due to climate change. With the cod population nearing decimation, in 2014 the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration banned virtually all cod fishing in the Gulf of Maine region.
8:01 p.m. on KTUL Scandal
The series hits a milestone with its 100th episode, “The Decision,” which finds Olivia (Kerry Washington) wondering what might have happened if the recent presidential election — the one within the show, that is — had gone differently. Suf-

fice it to say that the circumstances look much different for Mellie and Cyrus (Bellamy Young, Jeff Perry), as well as for Olivia herself, from that imagined perspective. Tony Goldwyn, Darby Stanchfield and Joshua Malina also star.
9 p.m. on KJRH
The Blacklist: Redemption Its season hasn’t been very long, but the “Blacklist” spinoff reaches critical points on several counts as its maiden run wraps up with “Whitehall: Conclusion.” Scottie and Howard (Famke Janssen, Terry O’Quinn) vie for control of the organization, as well as for vital and potentially lethal technology. Tom (Ryan Eggold) is caught in a dangerous battle of his own, against Mr. Solomon (Edi Gathegi). Tawny Cypress also stars.
7 p.m. on KJRH First Dates
Drinking too much typically isn’t a good omen for a first date, as the new episode “No Idea What Her Name Is” reaffirms. Indeed, the inebriation of the person in question is quite evident to his intended match, who understandably isn’t too impressed. Two other daters share a deep love for their respective mothers. An earlier candidate for romance returns to try again. Drew Barrymore narrates the unscripted series from executive producer Ellen DeGeneres.
7 p.m. on KOTV MacGyver
Murdoc (guest star David Dastmalchian) orchestrates a revenge plan meant to kill MacGyver (Lucas Till) and everyone else at the Phoenix Foundation as the adventure reboot ends its first season with “Cigar Cutter.” The villain gets his former cellmate to target everyone at the organization’s headquarters, but fear not: There will have to be survivors, since the show has been renewed for Season 2. Mark A. Sheppard (“Supernatural”) guest stars.
7 p.m. on KTUL
The Toy Box
Fresh variations on familiar products are presented for consideration in this new episode. Youngsters from Florida offer a double-sided book and toy cars that speed right along, while children from California introduce articulated, ballet-themed dolls and a backpack that becomes a pinata. Also, a New Jersey youth
suggests fruit-scented, plush characters. Eric Stonestreet (“Modern Family”) is the host.
8 p.m. on KOTV
Hawaii Five-0
Veteran actor Hal Holbrook guest stars as history plays a big role in the new episode “Waimaka ’ele’ele” (Hawaiian for “Black Tears”), which uses the attack on Pearl Harbor as a story element. McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) thinks about his grandfather’s involvement in that event as he probes the murder of a survivor of the USS Arizona. Adam (recurring guest star Ian Anthony Dale) is perplexed by a finding he makes at his new job.
10:30 p.m. on HBO Animals
The edgy animated comedy breaks from its usual format for the new “Humans,” a live-action episode set inside the headquarters of an evil conglomerate called Pesci Co. There, the unscrupulous Dr. Labcoat (RuPaul) prepares to roll out a new drug called the “Green Pill,” which allegedly is a cure for the mysterious virus gripping the Big Apple. Judy Greer, Neil Casey, John Early, Lauren Lapkus, Andy Richter and Raven-Symone also appear.
8 p.m. on AMC
The Son In a scene that flashes back to 1849, young Eli (Jacob Lofland) struggles to find his place and learn to live among the Comanche tribe in the new episode “The Plum Tree.” Returning to the show’s present — 1915 — the adult Eli (Pierce Brosnan) clashes with Pete (Henry Garrett) over how to respond to an unexpected and unwarranted attack on their home. Zahn McClarnon and Paola Nunez also star.
10:29 p.m. on KJRH Saturday Night Live
Jimmy Fallon returns to his old stomping grounds again as guest host of this new episode, which marks a first for the program — and that’s saying something, given its four-decades-plus history. For the first time, the series will air live in every U.S. time zone, so the West Coast (which normally gets it on a three-hour tape delay) will see what’s happening at exactly the same time as the East Coast. One Direction’s Harry Styles is the musical guest.

“Django Unchained” (2012): Reuniting with director Quentin Tarantino, Jackson has a memorably vicious role as a natural enemy of ex-slave Django (Jamie Foxx).
“Lakeview Terrace” (2008): The bad-cop notion gets an impressive spin from Jackson, playing a policeman who relentlessly targets the new couple next door (Patrick Wilson, Kerry Washington).
“Snakes on a Plane” (2006): Simply as the star vehicle it is, this selfexplanatory thriller in the skies should remain one of Jackson’s best-remembered films.
“Changing Lanes” (2002): In this underrated drama, Jackson is superb as a troubled man taking revenge on the fellow motorist (Ben Affleck) who caused him to miss a crucial court date.
“Shaft” (2000): Even if it didn’t erase memories of the 1971 original, this privateeye update required an actor of consummate coolness to take over the title slot from Richard Roundtree – and Jackson was that actor.
“The Negotiator” (1998): Jackson keeps things tense as a Chicago policeman who takes hostages while trying to clear himself of murder.
“Jackie Brown” (1997): The title stewardess is caught between an arms dealer (Jackson) and the law in Quentin Tarantino’s gritty drama.
“One Eight Seven” (1997): A powerful Jackson plays an inner-city teacher who takes on tough students.
“A Time to Kill” (1996): Jackson is sterling as a man on trial for avenging his daughter’s assault.
“Pulp Fiction” (1994): Among the all-time-great screen teams, count Jackson and John Travolta as hit men who wax philosophical when not claiming victims in Quentin Tarantino’s classic.
