“A Very Brady Christmas”

projects that have reunited the casts of classic television series, “A Christmas” is one of the most beloved, accounting for the annual has been giving it in recent years. It appears there again on Mike and Carol (again played by Robert Reed and Flordecide to reunite their entire “Brady Bunch” for the holidays. wn children has his or her own dilemma, though ranging aureen McCormick) concern over her husband Wally’s (Jerr y loss, to Bobby’s (Mike Lookinland) secret about his chosen yable 1988 film also brings back Barr y Willliams as Greg, Christopher Knight as Peter and Ann B. Davis as housekeepthere’s a different Cindy, with Susan Olsen (who was on her time of the filming) replaced by Jennifer Runyon.

While we may already be in the season for celebration, any occasion showcasing Barry Manilow is a holiday for his generations of fans.

A winner of a Grammy, two Primetime Emmys and a special Tony Award, the enduringly popular singer-songwriter has released seasonal albums over the course of his nearly 50 years as a star, and some of those tunes will factor in — along with many of his pop standards, from “Mandy” to “Copacabana” — when “Barry Manilow’s A Very Barry Christmas,” airsMonday, Dec. 11, on NBC. (The special also will stream on Peacock starting the next day.)

Taped at the International Showroom of the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino (which was formerly the Las Vegas Hilton), where Manilow has broken Elvis Presley’s record for doing the most shows at the venue during his 14-year association there, the hour will also include such seasonal favorites as “Jingle Bells” and “White Christmas.” A 24-piece band backs Manilow during his Vegas performances, one of which was attended by network executives — setting the stage, both figuratively and literally, for the new special.

“A whole bunch of NBC people came to see the regular show I do at the Westgate, and they were interested in filming that,” the genial Manilow explains. “During the conversation after the show, they said they were looking for Christmas stuff because they couldn’t create anything until after the writers’ strike, which was going on then. I said, ‘I’ve got a Christmas show.’ They said, ‘You do?’ And I said, ‘Yeah. And it’s all ready to go, if you want it.’

“We do it in various places every year,” notes Manilow, “and I sent them a video of it, and they loved what they saw. They came to the Westgate with their cameras, we had a big audience, and off we went. The only problem was me, because I kept forgetting to do certain things, but they made the show even more beautiful than it was before. There were many more lights and more Christmas trees, and it was just gorgeous. ”

Manilow has a long-standing affinity for the holiday season. “I love my Christmas albums,” he maintains of “Because It’s Christmas,” “A Christmas Gift of Love” and “In the Swing of Christmas.” “I loved doing them. I don’t listen to my albums, but now and again, if I’m going to listen to any of them, it’s those. I love the arrangements and the orchestrations and the songs that I chose. I’m very proud of those Christmas albums.”

Still, Manilow realizes that his fans also want his time-tested hits. That catalog encompasses such standards as “I Write the Songs,” “Could It Be Magic,” “Looks Like We Made It,” “Tryin’ to Get the Feeling,” “Can’t Smile Without You,” “Weekend in New England,” “This One’s for You,” “Even Now,” “Daybreak” and “New York City Rhythm.”

“I’ve figured out a way of putting together some of the hits and a lot of Christmas songs,” Manilow says, “but it always still feels like a Christmas show even if I’m doing ‘I Write the Songs’ or ‘Mandy.’ I think the audiences would probably be disappointed if I didn’t do the hits, and that’s what we’ve done for NBC, too We had to edit it down, because the live Christmas show goes about 90 minutes, and you can’t do all of that on a one-hour TV show with commercials. We recorded everything, though, in the order that I always do it.”

“Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (Freeform, Monday, Dec. 11, Tuesday, Dec. 12, Friday, Dec. 15, and Saturday, Dec. 16):

Thanks to an elaborate makeup job, Jim Carrey has the title role in director Ron Howard’s live-action 2000 take on the classic story of a well, a grinch who’s determined to sap all the joy out of the holiday season for the residents of Whoville. He doesn’t count on sweet little Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen) having a beneficial effect on his grouchy attitude. Anthony Hopkins invokes much of the famous Seuss prose as the narrator of the tale, which has a wondrous production design here.

“Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” (ABC, Tuesday, Dec. 12): The Rankin-Bass production company’s “Animagic” technique of stop-motion animation is in full evidence in this charming seasonal special, which debuted in 1970. Fred Astaire supplies the image and voice of a mailman who takes it upon himself to respond to several letters sent to Santa by relating the story of Father Christmas – whose voice is furnished by another legendary entertainer, Mickey Rooney

In fact, each junior chef who competes with a kitchen-related prize, including a second Viking Kitchen package for the runner-up.

Like its predecessor, “MasterChef Junior,” this iteration will also feature young aspiring cooks — children aged eight to 13 — with each episode putting the heat on these talented junior chefs with a series of challenges. They’ll compete in skills-based tests, boxes of mystery ingredients, team challenges and elimination rounds, including the “Pressure Test,” in which losing team members must compete against each other to make an impressive dish within a limited time frame.

Once the competition is reduced to its strongest chefs, the remaining few must face off in a threecourse cook-off, with all courses equally weighed by judges to determine an overall winner

“Goldfinger” (1964): Most Bond purists concur this is the first 007 screen adventure that has it all, including a deftly balanced Conner y per formance that blends suave charm and rugged action smoothly

“The Hill” (1965): The long y and director Sidney Lumet began with this grueling drama of World War y prisoners forced to do

“The Offence” (1973): Conf the “star” pedestal manifested itself in this police drama, again under Lus direction, about a detective whose anger goes too far when he interrogates a suspect.

“Murder on the Orient Ex-

One of many familiar faces in this great staging of the Agatha Christie myster y, y makes his presence known as one of the suspects questioned by Hercule Poirot (Albert Finney).

“The Wind and the Lion” (1975): Conner y is superb as a Middle Eastern renegade who invites large-scale trouble by kidnapping an American (Candice Bergen).

“Outland” (1981): Pretty much “High Noon” on another planet, this underrated sci-fi tale features Conner y as a lawman who targets a sly profiteer (Peter Boyle).

“The Hunt for Red October” (1990): Conner y stepped in for the originally cast Klaus Maria Brandauer in Tom Clancy’s tale of a Russian submarine whose captain may be tr ying to defect, drawing CIA analyst Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin) into the matter

“The Rock” (1996): If Conner y could make such a great secret agent, why couldn’t he make an equally fine criminal on the screen? He could, as he proved in this Jerr y Bruckheimer-produced action fest in which he plays a convict sprung to help a bookish FBI agent (Nicolas Cage) thwart a renegade general (Ed Harris) threatening San Francisco, using Alcatraz as a base.
