The musical is based on “The Lion King,” a 1994 Disney movie that was made into a stage musical in 1997. Play

director Jeran McGill said the cast and crew worked hard on the production.
“We have 17 days to get the whole show together,” McGill said. “We blocked the show in four days.”
She said people can expect a “fun-loving family show.”
“They will see moments from the

FORT GIBSON — Late June is prime time to sink your teeth into locally grown corn sweetness.
This weekend’s Fort Gibson Sweet Corn Festival is just the place to do it.
Mayor Myra Cookson, a festival organizer, said the event is a major fundraiser for the town’s parks department.
“We mostly want people to come and have a good time,” Cookson said.
The festival kicks off Friday with a
WHAT: Fort Gibson Sweet Corn Festival.
WHEN: Friday and Saturday.
WHERE: Centennial Park, Downtown Fort Gibson.
SCHEDULE:
• 6 p.m. Friday — Hamburgers, and street dance with live music.
• 9 a.m. Saturday — Festival
street dance and live music performed by Stephen McClurg. Saturday’s festivities include a corn-shucking
contest, which is scheduled to begin at about 10 a.m., and a corn-eating contest at about 1:30 p.m.
People don’t have to compete to enjoy the corn. Cookson said the Fort Gibson Police Department will sell cooked corn by the ear, and homemade succotash — a popular mixture of corn, squash and okra — also will be sold.
“The succotash sells out extra quickly,” Cookson said, suggesting it is a good idea to arrive early. “Last year, we quadrupled the recipe and still sold out.”
Those who cannot get their fill on
Saturday can buy corn by the bushel, half bushel and dozen.
“They’re going to load up Old Blue,” she said. “We probably sell out every bit of corn.”
Old Blue is a 1973 Dodge truck owned by Dick Sheffield, who provides corn for the festival.
“She’s been hauling corn for over 20 years,” Sheffield said about Old Blue. “We used to run corn to Tahlequah.”
Pickers rise with the sun and search through corn stalks taller than themselves for ripe ears. Sheffield said the bi-colored ears are popular in this area.
The festival also attracts visitors with its inflatable waterslides and games.
“Soccer darts is a new game,” Cookson said. “There is a great big ball with Velcro — you kick it to a target.”
There also will be a variety of non-corn concessions. Cookson said vendors will sell pulled pork, funnel

cakes, pineapple whip and ice cream.
“The American Legion is working on getting turkey legs,” she said.
Other performers will include Wesley Michael Hayes, 2 p.m. Saturday; Bob Weeden & Iron Horse Band, 3:30 p.m. Saturday; and Ahna Jennings, 5 p.m. Saturday. The Billy Arnett Band will perform during a street dance at 7 p.m. Saturday.
About 2,000 enjoyed the last year’s festival, Cookson said.
“But it’s growing,” she said. “We had a lot of interest this year.”
Previous festivals raised at least $2,000 for Fort Gibson parks. Cookson said proceeds helped buy new lights and fencing for the baseball field.
She said the city plans to add swings and a shade to the splash pad and skate park.

movie they will recognize and moments from the musical they will recognize,” McGill said.
The tale focuses on Simba, a lion cub whose father was killed by wildebeests. The evil uncle Scar plotted the assassination. Simba flees, but returns as an adult with friends Timon and Pumbaa. The production also features hyenas, birds, elephants and other animals of Africa.
Tyson Davis plays the adult Simba. He said it is the first time he’s been in an MLT play. However, he shows confidence in his work.
“I learned that it really is fun and fascinating,” Tyson said. “There’s not much to it.”
Grace Lynch faces a greater challenge. She must operate a puppet as Zazu, the bird.
“I have to make it move its mouth when I talk,” Grace said.
Camp Director Penny McGill said campers made part of their own costumes, which feature masks and puppets.
“Masks were created by our youngest group of campers,” McGill said. “They got to personalize their own masks in the show.”
Camper Desie Grandstaff looked at his hyena mask.
“It looks kind of scary,” Desie said.
McGill explained that hyenas are vicious animals. Characters also wear headpieces that look like animals.
Lyndsey Eckerson wears a lion headpiece as the evil lion, Scar. Lyndsey said she has to act more animated to portray an animal.
Penny McGill said the new theater, which opened last October, enabled more children to attend the camp. She said the camp was limited to 50 campers at the old building.
“We opened up to 60 students,” she said. “It has been fantastic.”

As the sun sank over the horizon and day faded into dusk, people were relaxing on blankets spread out on the lawn, in lawn chairs and sitting on the grass in a downtown Tahlequah park.
Visitors of all ages laughed and talked, youth danced in a group, and other people strolled around while waiting for a movie to begin at Norris Park. Children also enjoyed

The annual series has a fun new aspect this summer: an opportunity to sit on the front row on a couch or love seat, with food provided for winners of a drawing. Various organizations have given away items and food before, but this is another first for the downtown event.
“Police Chief Nate King has been cooking and giving away hot dogs,”
said Drew Haley, Tahlequah Main Street Association director. “Buddy’s Home Furnishings is bringing out a sofa and loveseat each time and putting it on the front row. On June 24, a winner will be drawn for the furniture. Buffalo Wild Wings will provide food for the winners at the next movie.”
The community event drew nearly 100 people on a recent Saturday evening that had fair weather.

Gathering around the sofa, Thomas Gardner, interim director for Tour Tahlequah, visited with friends and family until it was time to help Haley set up the inflatable movie screen. Most of the group agreed that Movies in the Park brings the community together and helps increase quality of life.
“Whether you are a CEO or day laborer, you can have fun for free in a friendly, fun environment,” Gardner said.
One of the many families that gathered to enjoy an evening at the park was the Montgomery-Anderson clan. Parents sat on chairs while their daughter, Scarlett, and friends lounged on a blanket in front of them. Dad held their son, Sawyer.
“The entertainment beforehand is spectacular,” said Elizabeth Montgomery-Anderson of the kids, including her two, who were dancing. “We always run into friends when we come.”
Taking a break from dancing, Scarlett said she sees lots of friends when she drops by.
“The dance contest is really fun, and the movies are really fun. It’s good to be in the park,” Scarlett said.
Guests are advised to get to Norris Park at least a half hour before the movie begins. Haley and volunteers usually have the screen up and music going by 6:30 p.m., but the movie cannot be shown until it is dark outside. The park lawn can fill up quickly.
The movies are chosen by the Main Street board, which gets together and looks at all the options, Haley said. Movies in the Park kicked off the summer with “Moana,” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” was shown June 10. “The Secret Life of Pets” was rescheduled due to bad weather.

T en years from now, the world as envisioned by James Patterson still will be a “Zoo” ... and, thanks to its animals, perhaps an even more lethal one.
The best-selling author’s novel (co-written with Michael Ledwidge) makes a big time leap as its CBS summerseries incarnation’s third season begins Thursday, June 29. With Patterson remaining among the show‘s executive producers, it’s now 2027 in the story line, and a decade has meant big changes for familiar characters who are among the steadily lessening human survivors – and also for their rampaging quarry, now even deadlier as “hybrids” generated in laboratories.
One “Zoo” figure who makes a major transition is
journalist Jamie Campbell, still played by “House of Cards” alum Kristen Connolly. Having spent a dozen years being on the run from marauding animals while also seeking a cure for the crisis, she’s reintroduced as an experienced woman of action, signaled by her markedly different appearance.
“She’s really undergone a transformation in a lot of ways,” the friendly Connolly confirms of Jamie. “Her values are the same, but she’s been on a mission, not unlike how we saw her in Season 1. In this case, it’s more focused on the people who took Mitch away. It’s made her a little tougher, and I’m excited to see what the audience thinks when they meet all these characters 10 years later.”
“Mitch” is Mitch Morgan, the veterinary pathologist with whom Jamie developed a relationship that went beyond their shared quest to stop the attacks. Spoiler alert: His portrayer, Billy Burke, is back in the regular cast this season. So are James Wolk, Nonso Anozie, Alyssa Diaz and Josh Salatin – and a new regular is Gracie Dzienny (“Chasing Life”) as Mitch’s now-grown daughter Clementine, who gave the impression at the end of Season 2 that she knew where her missing father was.
“Jamie does have a relationship with Clementine,” Connolly reports. “I don’t want to say too much about what that is, but where we left it in Season 2, Clementine was a little girl who’d just met Jamie for the first time. And the history they’ve had over the

The third season of “Zoo” starts Thursday on CBS.
past 10 years comes out in the first couple of episodes.” Also seen recently opposite Robert De Niro in HBO’s Bernie Madoff drama “The Wizard of Lies,” Connolly admits she didn’t expect the giant jump in time that “Zoo” is making. “We were all a little bit shocked” she says. “I think we all kind of thought, ‘What are they doing?’ And, ‘Is this gonna work?’ As we embarked on Season 3, though, it was such a good idea the writers had.
“It’s really afforded us the opportunity not only to play with the characters and the journeys they’ve gone on, but with what the actual landscape of the world is at that point,” adds Connolly. “We’re not so tied to contemporary reality, and it allows us to go even crazier. If that’s possible.”

Probably one of the most unique-looking characters on series television today is Arseface.
As played by Ian Colletti on AMC’s supernatural thriller “Preacher,” which returns for its second season Monday, June 26, he is a man so disfigured by a shotgun blast to the face that his mouth resembles, well, a certain orifice that’s usually not found on the head.
He is, needless to say, an unforgettable sight and one that caught the eyes of young onlookers last year during filming on location in New Mexico, as Colletti (in full makeup) and the series’ title star, Dominic Cooper, discovered when they filmed a scene together.
“The relationship within the whole group is falling to pieces really after a little while,” the British actor says. “It’s a difficult dynamic to continue and it’s hard to maintain and there are secrets amongst the group. And Jesse’s journey is a particularly selfish one and I think you start seeing the cracks appear.”
Full name: Dominic Edward Cooper
Birth date: June 2, 1978
Birthplace: Greenwich, England
Alma mater: London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art
Family ties: Father Brian is an auctioneer; mother Julie is a nursery school teacher; has two older brothers and two half-siblings; in a relationship with “Preacher” co-star Ruth Negga
TV credits include: “The Infinite Worlds of H.G. Wells,” “Band of Brothers,” “Jericho,” “Sense & Sensibility,” “Fleming,” “Agent Carter”

“I just remember we were doing a shot where he was in the car with me,” Cooper recalls, “and we drove past a school bus and they just stared. It was a shocking image or vision for them that they obviously weren’t used to. Then again, I kind of like the way the show picks up on that and brings out these extraordinary things about people and empathizes and highlights how we react and behave toward, I suppose, the obscure or the off-center or the people that aren’t what in our minds as so-called normal.”
As the new season begins, Cooper’s Jesse Custer hits the road with ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), with the single-minded intent of finding out answers about his identity and why he is the way he is.
But, according to Cooper, this isn’t exactly one big happy family.
Movie credits include: “Starter for 10” (2006), “The History Boys” (2006), “The Escapist” (2008), “Mamma Mia!” (2008), “The Duchess” (2008), “An Education” (2009), “Brief Interviews With Hideous Men” (2009), “Tamara Drewe” (2010), “The Devil’s Double” (2011), “Captain America: The First Avenger” (2011), “My Week With Marilyn” (2011), “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” (2012), “Dead Man Down” (2013), “Need for Speed” (2014), “Warcraft” (2016)

With apologies to Three Dog Night, Jeremiah Bullfrog is a good friend to the foodie.
In his culinary docu-series “Jeremiah Bullfrog Forks It!,” which posts three new episodes each Monday on go90.com, the unconventional master chef swaggers his way through various American cities, bringing viewers along as he takes in the local food culture and puts his own street gourmet spin on local favorites.
“We kind of started off with one plan and it just kind of morphed into something completely different,” the Miami native explains. “We just kind of put together a list that was strongly based on connections that I have with either chefs or restaurateurs. Then we had a couple of curveballs there in the middle and we just kind of rolled with the punches and just ended up having a lot of fun.”
Among the places the chef visits in each nineminute episode are New Orleans, where he prepares a creole spread for bounce artist Big Freedia; Oakland, Calif., where he does a Chinese/Mexican mash-up for a group of hip-hop dancers; Atlanta, the scene of a soul-food feedbag for rap artists; and Chicago, where he cooks up a five-course dinner for improv comics.
At each stop, the larger-than-life Bullfrog and his irreverent sense of humor bring the fun as he eats, drinks and jokes with the locals. Along the way, he takes viewers inside hidden hotspots that only the natives know about.

For three seasons on Starz’s “Power,” drug kingpin-turned-nightclub maven James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick) was something of a teflon don, managing to evade prosecution even as a body count mounted.
But karma, as they say, can be a female dog and that came back to bite him at the end of last season when he was arrested for a crime he didn’t commit – the murder of FBI agent Greg Knox.
“She really loved him,” Loren says of Angela and Ghost, “and she risked everything for him and there really is kind of concrete evidence that really looks like he murdered Greg, and she really believes that he has. And while the audience knows that he hasn’t, she doesn’t.

“Gypsy,” www.netflix.com/title/80095411
Written by Hollywood newcomer Lisa Rubin, this 10-part psychological thriller follows the adventures of Jean Holloway (Naomi Watts, “King Kong,” “Sunlight Jr.”), a therapist who begins to develop intimate relationships with the people in her patients’ lives. Billy Crudup (“Almost Famous,” “Jackie”) stars as her husband, with Lucy Boynton (“Sing Street”), Sophie Cookson (“Kingsman: The Secret Service”) and Brenda Vaccaro (“Boynton Beach Club”) as her patients.

So now as he languishes in jail awaiting trial as Season 4 of the crime drama gets underway Sunday, June 25, the two women in his life, estranged wife Tasha (Naturi Naughton) and ex-girlfriend Angela Valdes (Lela Loren), are left to cope with the fallout.
For Valdes, the situation is particularly devastating because she risked her career as a federal prosecutor to be with him and was the one who arrested him. And at the time of the murder, she was in a relationship with the victim.

“And I think what happens when someone gets their heart broken,” she continues, “they slingshot back into themselves. So that sort of vulnerable, in-love girl that was starting to bloom with Ghost ... she sort of slings back and she seals herself against him because she already knows he has a body count and she was kind of looking the other way. Now that he has killed someone close to her, she just can’t let him in, and she just has to be professional.”
Ghost’s incarceration is but one of Tasha’s problems. At the end of last season, their only son, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.), was kidnapped by his dad’s
“Okja,” www.netflix. com/title/80091936
This feature film from director Bong Joon Ho (“Snowpiercer,” “The Host”) tells the story of Mija (An Seo Hyun) a girl in the mountains of South Korea who is caretaker and constant companion to a massive animal known as Okja. But when a family-owned corporation led by image-obsessed CEO Lucy Mirando (Tilda Swinton, “Trainwreck”) takes Okja for themselves, the girl sets out on a mission to rescue her friend, encountering capitalists, consumers and demonstrators along the way.

“That’s what’s scary for Tasha,” Naughton says. “She’s never imagined her life without the security of being with Ghost, without her perfect household. She felt like they were living the dream. In Season 1, she says to Ghost, ‘We already have it all. We’re living the dream. Why do we have to change?’ He’s trying to get out of the game. She doesn’t see any need, but by Season 4 she’s living a nightmare and so much has changed.
“She does have to grow up,” she continues. “I think Tasha used to be a lot more immature in the first three seasons and all of a sudden she’s got to put her big-girl panties on and deal with the realities of life. And I think that’s a good journey for her this season.”

This eight-part comedy/drama from England follows a motley crew of young travelers — Brits Sean and Dylan (Adè, Anders Hayward) and Americans May and Ashley (Alice Lee, Brittney Wilson) — as they embark on a three-month trip around Asia, a journey they find takes them much farther than any of them expected. Loren McLaughlan (“Coronation Street”), Amy Roberts (“Shameless”) and Tim Key (“Alan Partridge”) are among the series’ writers.

The College World Series continues to grow in popularity and comes to a close this week on ESPN with Games 1 and 2 of the NCAA CWS Finals airing Monday and Tuesday. If necessary, Game 3 will air on Wednesday. Part of ESPN’s coverage team will be analyst Eduardo Perez, who not only played Major League Baseball for over a decade, but also made it to the CWS as a member of the Florida State Seminoles in 1989 and 1991, so he certainly understands the excitement in the air in Omaha, Nebraska where the CWS is played.
Perez is the son of Hall of Famer Tony Perez and was born in Cincinnati, Ohio when his father was a member of the “Big Red Machine.” He is one of three second-generation Major Leaguers from members of that team, along with Ken Griffey Jr. and Pete Rose Jr. Perez attended High School in San Juan, Puerto Rico before heading to Florida State University, where he majored in political science and played for the Seminoles.
After being drafted by the California Angels in 1991 he spent a few years in the minors and made his Major League debut two years later. He spent three seasons with the Angels and then became a journeyman of sorts. This included three seasons with the Reds, including his best statistically in 1997. He spent 13 years in the Majors overall. After retiring in 2006 Perez bounced between coaching jobs and stints in the broadcast studio or booth, before signing a new contract with ESPN in May.

Homecoming festivities in Purgatory take a dire turn indeed when an ancient entity crashes the celebration, intent on collecting a deadly promise in a new episode called “Gonna Getcha Good.” Syfy doesn’t provide much other information as to how events unfold, but based on years of horror viewing, we can report that ancient entities rarely mellow with time, so we’re guessing this is not going to end well for some
characters. Melanie Scrofano and Tim Rozon star.

8 p.m. on AMC TURN: Washington’s Spies Abe’s (Jamie Bell) desperate scheme to rescue Caleb (Daniel Henshall) takes an unexpected and potentially deadly turn in a new episode called “Blood for Blood.” Elsewhere, Anna (Heather Lind) finds herself forced to confront a difficult decision, while a suspicious Benedict Arnold (Owain Yeoman) grows convinced that Peggy (Ksenia Solo) is withholding something from him.

Scheduled performers include Bruno Mars, Future, Migos, Trey Songz and Tamar Braxton.
8 p.m. on AMC Preacher
As the series moves into its permanent Monday berth, Jesse, Tulip (Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga) and the vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) manage to track down Fiore (Tom Brooke), the low-level angel who acted as an adversary to the trio in Season 1. Now, however, the travelers are hoping he may be able to shed some light as to why the infernal Cowboy (Graham McTavish) seems to be so literally hellbent
on killing them in the new episode “Mumbai Sky Tower.”
8 p.m. on KQCW iZombie
The series wraps up its third season with “Looking for Mr. Goodbrain, Part 2,” which finds Liv (Rose McIver) continuing on her not-too-selective path of seeking romantic partners — the byproduct of her assuming the personality of someone Ravi (Rahul Kohli) had ties to. However things turn out here, rest assured there is more brainpower to come: The show has been renewed for Season 4.
7 p.m. on KOTV Big Brother
You probably know the drill by now — and if you don’t, the newest “housemates” surely do. In this two-hour season premiere, they enter the Big Brother House, isolating them from everyone else except host Julie Chen. Alliances will be made and betrayals will be committed. OK, we’re just guessing at that ... but it’s a pretty educated guess, based on earlier rounds of the contest. As usual, the show will be broadcast thrice weekly (also on Thursdays and Sundays).

If your tastes run toward fan fiction, a new anthology series on Fullscreen.com might strike your fancy.
In “FANtasies,” host Drew Monson (“Not Cool”) introduces comedy shorts from his new home in the “weird part of the Internet,” which are very loosely adapted from stories that appear on the fan fiction site Wattpad, and star some of the biggest names in digital media. Among the stars appearing in each six- to nine-minute episodes are Hannah Hart (“My Drunk Kitchen”), Grace Helbig (“Not Too Deep”), Mamrie Hart (“Dirty 30”), Brandon Rogers (“Magic Funhouse”), Tre Melvin (“12 Deadly Days”), Andrea Russett (“Apologies in Advance”) and Jon Cozart (“After Ever After”).
The tone of each of the 10 episodes is decidedly camp and silly, but it does serve as a spotlight for the wealth of original tales on Wattpad and other sources, explains Scott Reich, senior vice president of programming at Fullscreen Media.
“It’s a celebratory concept,” he says, “so we want to keep it fun and light, and in the spirit of celebrating the stars that it’s written about, and kind of throw out the rulebook of, ‘Oh, well, we have to hit this three-act story’ and all that. (It’s more) like, ‘Nah, let’s just let it flow.’ ”
“What’s great is it comes from a place of passion,” he continues. “You know, these people are writing these stories because they are just genuinely passionate about the subject or about the people that they’re (writing for), so there’s no buffer in between, you know? Like people aren’t giving notes or anything like this. It’s like a pure creative outlet, which is great.”
Among the early stories are “Kisses of Life,” in which Tre Melvin stars as a high schooler who gets caught between a pretty classmate and her jealous ex-boyfriend, Jimmy Quarterback, the football team’s tight end; “City Children,” a darker yarn starring Brandon

Answers:
Rogers about a massacre at a therapy session; and the opening episode, “Paging Dr. Hart,” directed by and starring Mamrie Hart, about a self-involved physician played by Hannah Hart.
Many of the stories bear little resemblance to the original tales on Wattpad (often the title is the only recognizable element) but there is plenty of improvisation as the actors mug and wink to the camera, seemingly inviting the audience in on the fun.
“Whenever you’re working with the stars that we do, who make videos and are creative people for a living,” Reich says, “you always want to give them the leeway to kind of run with it if something changes in the moment. And the spontaneity just adds to the kookiness and the creative goal that we have for this whole thing.”
