Wentworth Miller returns in the revival of “Prison Break,” premiering Tuesday on Fox.

Fox maps out a new ‘Prison Break’ in series revival

It isn’t over till it’s over ... and lately, the end of a series hasn’t necessary meant the definitive end, particularly at Fox.

“The X-Files” enjoyed a revival there last year, and this season has seen another franchise resume with “24: Legacy.” Now, yet another earlier staple of the Fox lineup gets a new chapter as “Prison Break” returns Tuesday, April 4, with Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell resuming their roles as formerly incarcerated brothers Michael Scofield –who was presumed dead at the end of the original show – and Lincoln Burrows. The hint that Michael still is alive after all, given to fellow inmate T-Bag (fellow returnee Robert Knepper) on the day of his release, sets the nine-episode plot in motion.

With creator and executive producer Paul T. Scheuring back in charge, the “Prison Break” continuation also brings back another essential cast member: Sarah Wayne Callies as Sara, who had wed Michael but since has moved on, along with their son. Mark Feuerstein

(“Royal Pains”) joins the cast as her current spouse, one of the many who are unprepared for Michael’s resurfacing. Co-stars Amaury Nolasco, Rockmond Dunbar and Paul Adelstein return as well.

While Scheuring maintains that all the principal players had to return or he wouldn’t have attempted “Prison Break” again, he says “the initial impetus came from Wentworth and Dominic, and then it kind of filtered over to me. TV has changed so much since we initially premiered. When you put a show on network TV in 2005, you had to have 22 episodes, and the expectation was then, you would subsequently have 22 episodes again and again and again and again (for each season). And when you have a closed-ended story like ‘Prison Break,’ you can be flapping your wings quickly.

“But in the new era of television, people are much more open to limited runs and ‘event’ series,” adds Scheuring. “(Fox said,) ‘Let’s do a limited run of this thing,’ which was originally scheduled for 10 (episodes) and then became

nine. Ultimately, I said, ‘OK. That’s worth doing.’ If we can tell a very tight, closed-ended story as to why Michael might possibly still be alive, I’m open to that. And so, I started exploring reasons why (he still lives) – and it took me back about 2,500 years in literature, but I found a reason why.”

In the interim, Miller and Purcell continued to work together as Captain Cold and Heat Wave, guest villains on The CW’s “The Flash” who eventually became members of “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.”

“It was like a high school reunion,” Miller says of reuniting with his “Prison Break” colleagues. “You know these people. There is a shorthand. There is a degree of familiarity, and yet they’re different now, so there’s also newness and awkwardness and discovery. And that, I think, speaks very specifically to the story that we address in the reboot: Who are these characters now? When they see each other, will they even recognize each other? This is the meat of the story.”

Arguably the most memorable visual of the initial “Prison Break” was the heavily-

EVERYTHING WE LEARNED FROM THE SXSW ‘GAME OF THRONES’ PANEL

“Game of Thrones” spoilers are usually the most carefullyguarded secrets in the world, but every now and then, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss get chatty about what to expect from the future season.

At the 2017 South by Southwest Festival, Benioff and Weiss had a lot to say about “Game of Thrones,” from episode counts to resurrections to guest stars. And since we’re just as excited as you are, we’ve compiled that information in an easy-to-read guide for your convenience.

Ed Sheeran

Benioff and Weiss confirmed that Ed Sheeran will, in fact, be making an appearance in “Game of Thrones” Season 7. Musical guest stars are not at all uncommon on “Game of Thrones,” and as a favorite of Maisie Williams, the showrunners had reportedly been trying to surprise her with his appearance for years.

We doubt Sheeran will appear as more than a glorified cameo – as all musical guests have in the past – but we do hope he manages to strike up a tune. His haunting rendition of “I See Fire” for “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” proves that he’s got the perfect voice for the fantasy genre.

The final season

We all knew that “Game of Thrones” only has 2 seasons left, but Benioff confirmed on March 12 that the final season would only be six episodes long.

tattooed Michael, whose body essentially was a living map of how to get Lincoln out of Fox River State Penitentiary. Miller confirms that this time, Michael sports “a different set of tattoos, and they serve a slightly different purpose. That’s all I can say.”

However, Scheuring can speak to the enduring popularity of “Prison Break” ... and not just in America, as foreign tourists reconfirmed for him and Miller as they left a Hollywood meeting where they first discussed the revival.

“We walk out and we’re going to our respective cars, and there’s a skid in the middle of the street,” the producer recalls. “This car locks up, and we think it’s an accident. And these dudes jump out, and they come running around and they go, ‘You’re the guy from ”Prison Break!“ ’ They literally locked it up, double-parked in the street, ran up to (Miller and said), ‘Can we take picture?’ That’s the kind of hunger that’s out there internationally for the show. And I thought it was very charming.”

“It’s only going to be six episodes for the final season,” Benioff says. “From the beginning we’ve wanted to tell a 70-hour movie. It will turn out to be a 73-hour movie, but it’s stayed relatively the same of having the beginning, middle and now we’re coming to the end.”

Sansa in jeopardy?

In a throwaway comment, Benioff joked, “We argued who got to kill Sansa (Sophie Turner),” when discussing how they divided up writing the final season.

Obviously this joke hasn’t got us panicked yet, but as with any “Game of Thrones” spoilers, you have to take them into serious consideration. Starks are known for dying, and Sansa is beloved enough that her death would be one of the most heartbreaking blows since Ned (Sean Bean) himself got the axe.

Benioff bows out of spinoff

Rumors of a “Game of Thrones” spinoff have been circulating recently, and it’s pretty much a given that HBO will attempt to cash in on the franchise for another eight years if possible. Benioff and Weiss, however, are not looking to keep the gravy train running.

“I think HBO might well do a spinoff, and I look forward to watching it, and I think it be great, but I think they should get new blood in,” Benioff says.

“Game of Thrones” premieres July 16, 2017 on HBO.

Dominic Purcell and Sarah Wayne Callies return in the revival of “Prison Break,” premiering Tuesday on Fox.

PBS’ ‘Weekends With Yankee’ offers up an insider’s tour of New England

If you’ve been wanting to explore New England and its culinary destinations but have no idea where to begin, a new documentary series from WGBH and Yankee magazine offers up a few clues.

In “Weekends With Yankee,” premiering on PBS stations this month (check local listings), host and travel writer Richard Wiese and Yankee Senior Food Editor Amy Traverso take viewers on an insider’s tour of the six states that make up the northeast corner of the U.S. to give them a local’s perspective of the best the region has to offer, from activities and events to the arts and cuisine.

Over the course of 13 episodes, the hosts experience everything from harvesting scallops in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., and a clambake at Maine’s Acadia National Park to the WaterFire festival in Providence, R.I., a wildlife encounter in Kent, Conn., and a tour of the burgeoning culinary scene of South Boston.

For Traverso, a Massachusetts native and and nearlifelong resident of the region, the yearlong trek was a combination of the familiar and the new, with the Maine clambake falling into the latter category.

“We went to this place which was very hard to access because there’s no public parking, it’s not really a public beach,” she says. “It’s actually these geologic formations called the Ovens and basically they’re these cliffs on the northeastern side of the island ... and the waves have sort of carved in these little mini caves that almost look like beehive ovens, which is where they get their name. ... So it’s just this really dramatic backdrop place that normally we don’t get to up close, but you can kayak there, but it can be hard to get there.”

One of Traverso’s favorite experiences was also in Maine, where she took a cruise on a 100-year-old windjammer from the mid-coast town of Rockland. Here she lived in spartan conditions with no electricity and gravity-fed showers but dined on fresh-caught

seafood prepared by the vessel’s chef and co-owner on a wood-fired cast-iron stove.

“Everyone has the initial thought of like, ‘You’re bringing fire on a boat?’ ” Traverso says. “But ... she is very safe, she is very careful with the fire and she makes the most incredible food. I mean, we ate so well that day and just to be out cruising Camden Harbor or Rockland Harbor smelling the salt air and eating fresh oysters and eating these biscuit buns that she had made for us in the morning, it was just a perfect day. I’m not even the best sailor but I just had the best time on that boat and we ate really well.”

“There’s something that does feel very New England about being on this boat where it’s kind of pared down but it’s luxurious in that you’re eating incredibly well and you’re seeing all this beauty and you have a comfortable, cozy place to sleep,” she continues. “I think that’s the kind of luxury that I really love.”

Other stops in the series include an apple farm in Dummerston, Vt.; Mount Washington, the Northeast’s highest peak, in New Hampshire; museums in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island; and a land-bound steamboat in Shelburne, Vt.

For Traverso, the odyssey through her native land was the most fun she’s ever had doing a work project. “It was just so beautiful, so much fun and such a great crew,” she says, “and it kind of makes you fall in love with New England all over again.”

Let the games begin –MLB returns on ESPN

Whether you’re a player, a coach, a sportswriter or a fan, Opening Day in baseball is a date marked prominently on your calendar.

As well it should be. It not only signifies the official coming of spring, but also heralds the onset of 162 games of tape-measure shots, highlight-reel catches, dominant pitching performances and clutch hits. For anyone connected to the game, the first week of April is sheer bliss.

Just ask Aaron Boone. The former major league infielder and current ESPN analyst, who will be in the booth when the sports cablenet broadcasts the season opener between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, April 2, still gets the butterflies and nerves that come with the regular season’s first contest, albeit somewhat differently now.

“You know, you got so excited as a player to get to spring training,” he says, “and then spring training kind of gets long and so you start to long for the start of the season. And then getting up north and getting your locker set up – really it’s a kid waking up on Christmas morning or that first day of Little League. It was that similar feeling, that excitement, the optimism. You know, the butterflies, the nerves that go with it, I think similar but different. You have all those emotions and feelings as a broadcaster, too, as we’re kicking

off our season, so there’s that excitement and that anxiousness and the nerves and kind of kicking off the rust a little bit. So yeah, it’s similar but different.”

Sunday’s Opening Day slate comprises three games, starting on ESPN in early afternoon (ET) as Gary Sanchez and the New York Yankees pay a visit to Evan Longoria and the American League East rival Tampa Bay Rays. Then in late afternoon on ESPN2, it’s a clash of National League West foes as Paul Goldschmidt and the Arizona Diamondbacks play host to Buster Posey and the San Francisco Giants. Finally, back on ESPN in prime time, it’s Kris Bryant and the Cubs beginning their defense of their 2016 world championship against Yadier Molina and the NL Central rival Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

OF “MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.” ON ABC

As “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” resumes its fourth season, with all that your alter ego Jemma Simmons has been through lately, do you consider her a tougher person now?

Oh, she is, absolutely! I think what’s nice is that she still has the same essence. We haven’t just said, “Oh, she’s completely changed”; she’s just grown so much, and a lot of that has been through grief. She lost a man she loved, she’s accepted that and she’s grown from it. And she’s also had

to survive. She’s had choices to make that have definitely shaped her.

What do you think that’s meant to playing the relationship between Simmons and her very close comrade Fitz (Iain De Caestecker)?

When you get those scenes to do, it’s just so cool, every day. Iain is such a brilliant actor, and to be able to have gone on such a journey together, it’s why I wanted to be an actor in the first place.

And we just say what the writers tell us to say, and we give them so much credit. They’ve developed these characters that people are invested in, and it allows us to have those moments of indulgence in their emotions and feelings. I just feel so lucky. I had no idea (Simmons) would end up here.

One of your finest hours on “S.H.I.E.L.D.” – literally – was Season 3’s “4,722 Hours,” which challenged Simmons to survive on another planet after she was “swallowed” by a monolith. How do you look back upon that episode now?

We were in our element. One take per shot, moving perfectly, and it just went great. I’m just so proud of it. That was a tough couple of weeks, but it was good to be completely immersed in that way. Everybody was very supportive, and I just loved ever y second of it.

Samantha Morton of “Harlots” on Hulu

“I kind of didn’t grow up watching television. I was too busy doing other things. And I’m addicted to ‘Seinfeld’ because I didn’t see it. I’ve got the box set and I cannot wait to have my ‘Seinfeld’ fix. I like ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ ‘Seinfeld.’ I like watching a lot of documentaries but literally I’m just obsessed with ‘Seinfeld’ right now.”

Keith Urban of the 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards on CBS

“ ‘Baskets’ is so unique. And I was fortunate to watch all the episodes of ‘Big Little Lies’ (starring Urban’s wife, Nicole Kidman), and right around Episode 3, that thing kicks into such a great gear. I found it intensely addictive.”

Willie Robertson, seen recently on “Duck Dynasty” on A&E Network

Jana Kramer, seen recently in “Love at First Bark” on Hallmark Channel

“Thursday nights are my nights. I give myself one day a week where I splurge on TV ... ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘Scandal’ and ‘How to Get Away With Murder.’ That’s my life.”

“You know what I watch a lot is ‘My 600-Lb. Life.’ I love that show. That and just watching about the human struggle and how people get themselves into that and then try to get out of it. So that’s a show I watch. I watch a lot of news and I watch a lot of new stuff and I watch a lot of golf on TV. So I’m kind of a boring TV watcher. I don’t watch much reality TV.”

FULL NAME: Dustin Hunter Johnson

BORN: June 22, 1984

BIRTHPLACE: Columbia, South Carolina

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6 foot 4 inches/190 pounds

TURNED PRO: 2007 HONORS AND ACHIEVEMENTS: PGA Player of the Year, 2016; U.S. Open Champion, 2016

Dustin Johnson has been on a roll the past two seasons. The PGA’s top golfer won his first Major last year (the U.S. Open) and will be looking for a second when the 2017 Master Tournament begins Thursday, April 6 on ESPN, who will also carry it on Friday April 7. CBS will pick up the action on Saturday and Sunday, April 8 – 9.

Johnson is having a good season thus far on the PGA Tour. He followed up a win at the Genesis Open in February with another in early March at the World Golf Championship – Mexico Championship two weeks later. That victory earned him the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking and third on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup leaderboard. In the six Tour events he’d played up to that point, he had the aforementioned two victories and four top ten finishes.

At Augusta Johnson finished tied for fourth place in last year’s Masters, and tied for sixth in 2015. That same year he finished tied for second at the U.S. Open. Overall in the 31 Majors he’s played in since 2009, he’s made the cut 26 times and has 13 top ten finishes and six top fives. He finished 2016 at the top of the money list rank.

Dustin Johnson appears to be a golfer on his way up the ladder. Does he have enough momentum to earn the honor of slipping on the green jacket at the end of this year’s Masters?

Keith Urban, you’re the most-nominated talent in the 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards. How does it feel?

“It’s extraordinary,” the ex-“American Idol” judge says of his seven bids in the event that CBS will televise Sunday, April 2. “It’s a magical thing when you make records. Sometimes, there’s just other things at work and they connect in a much bigger way. I’ve always found those multi-nomination artists to be everybody else. I’ve been to many award shows were that’s always been someone else, and it’s just extraordinary for it to be for this album.”

“Ripcord” is the release in question, and album of the year (for which Urban is nominated as both artist and producer) is among the contests it’ll be in, as Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley reteam as hosts at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena. Urban also is up for single (also as both artist and producer) and song of the year – for its cut “Blue Ain’t Your Color” – as well as for entertainer and male vocalist of the year.

“I couldn’t imagine myself thinking about awards when I’m making records,” the ever-friendly Urban maintains. “That would just be insane. The only thing I’m thinking about is just capturing the thing that I hear, that balancing act between maintaining a very clear vision for the record I’m trying to make, but also staying open to the muse that may take me in some different direction.”

In some cases, that muse is Urban’s wife: Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, who will be present to support her husband at the ACMs, just as he was for her when she was up for another Academy Award in February for “Lion.”

“There’s something about going to a function where it’s nothing to do with your industry that I really enjoy,” he reflects. “I’m just the ‘plus one,’ tagging along as the husband, and so happy to be in that role. It’s a very different experience, in a lot of ways, from going to the music-award shows.”

Birthdate: Oct. 26, 1967

Birthplace: Whangarei, New Zealand

Current residence: Nashville

Marital status: Married to actress Nicole Kidman; they have two daughters

Other television credits include: “American Idol,” “The Voice,” “CMA Country Christmas,” “The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles,” “ACM Presents: Brooks & Dunn – The Last Rodeo,” “CMT Crossroads,” “Stand Up to Cancer”

Movie credits include: “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me”

Net Picks

On his rationale for musical success: “Long-term careers are a bit like sitting at a poker machine pulling the handle. The wins are very infrequent, so hopefully you love pulling the handle, because you’re going to be doing that more than anything else. Fortunately, I love writing songs and being in the studio, spending insane amounts of time making records – and not just banging out a few songs, but really laboring over every little nuance of the process. And then, touring ... outside of my family, that’s my primary love.”

Favorite movie: “Lately, ‘Lion’ ... and for me, it’s separate from Nic (wife Nicole Kidman) being in the film. I remember when I watched it the first time, I walked away thinking, ‘That’s some grown-ups making a movie.’ It was extraordinary to watch what I felt was some greatness in filmmaking, and I think far more films of that quality and magnitude were made many, many years ago.”

“The Get Down,” www. netflix.com/title/80025601

Baz Luhrmann collaborated with Nas, legendary MC and others to produce this docudrama series set in 1977 New York City that follows the mythic saga of how a city on the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to a new art form, hip-hop. The large cast includes Shameik Moore, Jimmy Smits, Giancarlo Esposito and Jaden Smith and drops Friday.

“Win It All,” www.netflix.com/title/80134527

Jake Johnson (“New Girl”) stars in this Netflix original film as a small-time gambler who agrees to watch a duffel bag for an acquaintance who is heading to prison. After discovering the bag is full of cash, he gives in to temptation, only to wind up in debt. When the prison term is shortened, he must win back all the money he lost. Drops Friday.

“The Open Mic,” www. youtube.com/channel/UCHAmMyiXppZFKm0aAxMvnig/feed

Open mic night — it’s where careers of aspiring comics are born or killed off and it’s the subject of this new 10-episode web series that is the brainchild of Chicago comedians Kelsie Huff and Daryl Moon, who also play the hosts of such an event that regularly attracts a group of oddballs and misfits whose performances more often than not go down in flames to hilarious effect.

SUNDAY

10:30 a.m. on FS1

NASCAR Racing

Martinsville Speedway in Virginia, the sight of today’s STP 500, is one of NASCAR’s trickiest tracks. The “paper clip” as it is called, allows for fast acceleration on straightaways but requires smooth braking and handling on the low-banked turns over the course of 500 laps; including 240 for the final stage. Kyle Busch won last year’s event while Denny Hamlin did the same in 2015, which means Joe Gibbs Racing is going for a three-peat in this one.

7 p.m. on KOTV 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards

Many of the genre’s top stars gather at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena for the event honoring those judged the best of the past year’s country music artists, producers and writers. Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley are teamed as hosts again, and Keith Urban leads the nominees with seven bids. Others with multiple nominations include Miranda Lambert and Maren Morris (six each), and Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw (five each). Bentley himself is up for three of the honors.

7 p.m. on KOED Call the Midwife

The Heidi Thomas-created drama series opens its sixth season in 1962, as “Episode 1” shows how then-modern times take a toll on staffers at Nonnatus House, both personally and professionally. A change in the hierarchy alarms many of them, while Sister Mary Cynthia’s (Bryony Hannah) concerns also involve her own health. A young mother-to-be (Pearl Appleby) seeks refuge from her brutish husband at the convent. Jenny Agutter and Judy Parfitt also star.

8 p.m. on STARZ Black Sails

Arrrrrrr! After four seasons, this handsome and usually sexy pirate saga, a prequel of sorts to “Treasure Island,” drops anchor with the new “XXXVIII.” As Nassau hovers on the brink of major change, Flint (Toby Stephens) makes one final, determined push to knock England from power. Silver (Luke Arnold), meanwhile, seals his fate, and

Rackham (Toby Schmitz) has a fiery confrontation with Rogers (Luke Roberts).

9 p.m. on KTUL American Crime

Going his own way to get the answers he needs, Luis (Benito Martinez) finally discovers what happened to his son in the new “Season Three: Episode Four.” Coy (Connor Jessup) comes up with a way to change his destiny, or so he believes. Jeanette (Felicity Huffman) tries to make her case about the working conditions on the farm to Laurie Ann (guest star Cherry Jones). Spouses Nicholas and Clair Coates (Timothy Hutton, Lili Taylor) are at crossed purposes.

MONDAY

7 p.m. on KTUL Dancing With the Stars

The path to the mirrorball trophy continues in the show’s 24th season, with the traditional mix of actors, athletes, singers and realityshow personalities vying to stay in for the win — and learning just how tough it is to master various dance styles, even under the tutelage of pros who have been through this process numerous times. Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews are the hosts, with Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Julianne Hough and Bruno Tonioli as the judges.

7 p.m. on HBO Movie: Abortion: Stories Women Tell

More than 40 years have passed since the Supreme Court ruled that women had the right to choose the course of their pregnancies, but more recently state governments in more than half of the United States have imposed drastic restricions on abortions. This new documentary provides a window into the lives of women in Missouri, where only one abortion clinic remains open in the entire state.

8 p.m. on KOED Independent Lens

The subject of the documentary “Newtown” likely will be apparent to anyone who recognizes that name, that of the Connecticut community still wracked by the December 2012 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Parents, teachers and first responders are among those who tell wrenching personal stories — and many of them, stories of firsthand loss — about the tragedy that resulted in the deaths of 20 children and six educators.

9 p.m. on A&E Bates Motel

As troubles begin to snowball, Norman and Mother (Freddie Highmore, Vera Farmiga) start to fuse into a single identify in a new episode called, quite fittingly, “Inseparable.” Elsewhere, a sorely wounded Romero (Nestor Carbonell) slowly convalesces with the support of an old friend, and Dylan (Max Thieriot) returns home. Isabelle McNally and Brooke Smith guest star.

TUESDAY

7 p.m. on BET Rebel

Continuing its initiative to beef up its scripted program content, BET launches this new prestige police drama from producer-director John Singleton (“Boyz n the Hood”), which deals with the internal conflict officers of color struggle with in a time when some departments are rife with misconduct. Theater actress Danielle Mone Truitt makes her TV series debut as Rebecca “Rebel” Knight, an Oakland, Calif., police officer; the ensemble also features Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”), Mykelti Williamson, Cliff “Method Man” Smith and Brandon Quinn.

8 p.m. on KOKI Prison Break

One of Fox’s staple series for several years gets a continuation as new episodes begin with “Ogygia.” Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell — who have worked together in the interim on The CW’s superhero shows — reunite as brothers Michael Scofield (thought to be dead as this version opens) and Lincoln Burrows, who find themselves in another challenge to break out of incarceration. Co-stars Sarah Wayne Callies and Robert Knepper also return.

8 p.m. on KQCW iZombie

The seriocomic series’ third season begins with “Heaven Just Got a Little Bit Smoother,” an ironic title since Liv (Rose McIver) finds a surplus of zombies in Seattle. Many of them are being prepped by a private contractor to be members of an army of the undead. Still shunned by many, though he was cleared of being the Chaos Killer, Major (Robert Buckley) manages to find employment. David Anders, Malcolm Goodwin and Rahul Kohli also return as cast regulars.

9 p.m. on FX The Americans

Philip and Elizabeth (Matthew Rhys, Keri Russell) receive some startling information about Henry (Keidrich Sellati), followed by some shattering news about a past operation in a new episode called “Lotus 1-2-3.” In other events, Stan (Noah Emmerich, who also directed this episode) seems to be falling in love, but Philip suspects something more sinister may be going on.

WEDNESDAY

7 p.m. on KJRH

Blindspot

Jane (Jaimie Alexander) and her colleagues are under investigation themselves, by an old enemy who clearly has an agenda, in the new episode “Senile Lines.” Meanwhile, a tattoo draws them into a new probe in a location that’s somewhat surprising for them ... a foster home. Sullivan Stapleton, Archie Panjabi and Ashley Johnson also star.

8 p.m. on KOKI Empire

Ongoing situations in Cookie’s (Taraji P.Henson) life make Angelo (guest star Taye Diggs) fear those could become liabilities for his mayoral bid in the new episode “Strange Bedfellows.” Tariq’s (Morocco Omari) revelation prompts a major decision by Anika (Grace Byers). A big surprise upsets Hakeem’s (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray) birthday celebration. Nia Long, Rumer Willis and Leslie Uggams also guest star. Terrence Howard and Jussie Smollett also star.

9 p.m. on SYFY

The Expanse

The crew of the Rocinante unleashes something they can’t even begin to comprehend when they stumble across a gruesome discovery in a new episode called “Here There Be Dragons.” Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo) finally makes contact with the slippery Jules Pierre-Mao (Francois Chau), while Bobbie (Frankie Adams) makes a profoundly lifechanging decision.

9 p.m. on TRUTV Talk Show the Game Show

Comic Guy Branham hosts this new series mash-up that’s adapted from his popular live comedy show. The format combines two classic TV genres, pitting celebrities against one another to see who will be named “best guest of the night.” Obviously, that’s a scenario that informally plays out nightly on any talk show, but here, the stars compete in various talk show-inspired challenges to score points. The judges include Emmy-winning writer Karen Kilgariff and journalist Casey Schreiner.

THURSDAY

7 p.m. on KQCW

Supernatural

Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles) determine where Kelly Kline (guest star Courtney Ford) is in the new episode “The British Invasion,” and they aren’t alone in wanting to find her. Mick (guest star Adam Fergus) decides to go along with the Winchesters in tracking her down. The script is by veteran television writer-producers Eugenie Ross-Leming and Brad Buckner, whose credits date back to “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.”

8 p.m. on KQCW Riverdale

Archie (KJ Apa) has an ulterior motive for agreeing to be Cheryl’s

(Madelaine Petsch) escort for maple-syrup tapping — no, we’re not kidding — in the new “Chapter Nine: La Grande Illusion,” and he manages to get information about Betty’s (Lili Reinhart) sister in the process. Veronica (Camila Mendes) doesn’t realize a new acquaintance holds a grudge against her family. Alice (Madchen Amick) is ready to avenge herself on the Blossoms. Luke Perry also stars.

9 p.m. on SHOW Dark Net

An eye-opening success in its first season, this startling series launches a second series of new episodes that provide cautionary lessons about what happens when the virtual world takes over real life. The season premiere features an artificially intelligent sex robot, a woman who uploads her mind to an algorithm and a family who is saved by virtual reality after being torn apart by war.

FRIDAY

7 p.m. on KJRH First Dates

The title describes what this new, unscripted series presents as couples have their first social encounters at a Chicago restaurant. Executive-produced by Ellen DeGeneres and narrated by Drew Barrymore, the show starts with “Wine Makes Me Crazy” and uses a hidden-camera technique to capture the daters at their most candid — and some intended pairings don’t work out past what’s shown here. Whether there’s a future for each is spelled out clearly.

7 p.m. on KTUL The Toy Box

If you’ve had a favorite toy, the idea for it had to originate somewhere — and that’s the notion beind this new, “Shark Tank”-ish series in which inventors present their concepts, initially to toy-industry professionals. If the pitch gets past that stage, it moves on to a panel of young judges who decide which proposals will go to the show’s finals. The winning idea actually will be produced and marketed. Eric Stonestreet (“Modern Family”) is the host.

8 p.m. on KOKI

You the Jury

Long a staple of Fox News Channel, former prosecutor and judge Jeanine Pirro starts an unscripted series for the parent Fox network. Premiering with “Aruba,” it lets

the public judge — literally — civil cases, after lawyers on both sides make arguments on issues ranging from religious freedom to allegedly accidental deaths. Viewers in the East determine the outcome ... but if viewers in the West then tip it the other way, the first verdict will be overturned.

HUGH JACKMAN’S TOP 10 MOVIES

“Eddie the Eagle” (2016): Jackman does enjoyable character-actor work as the rougharound-the-edges coach of an unlikely Winter Olympics ski jumper in this true story.

“Prisoners” (2013): An atypically edgy Jackman succeeds as a father willing to do anything – and proving it – to find his kidnapped child.

“Les Miserables” (2012): Jackman earned an Oscar nomination by putting the force of his singing voice behind Jean Valjean in the Victor Hugo-inspired musical.

“Real Steel” (2011): A computer-generated, boxing robot could steal a movie from anyone, but it’s to the credit of Jackman’s heartfelt performance as a struggling promoter that it doesn’t.

“Australia” (2008): Goodlooking as it is, this drama doesn’t achieve the epic sweep it aims for, but Jackman ably fulfills his mission to play a hunky ranch hand.

“Deception” (2008): Jackman gives an enjoyably sly performance as a bon vivant with ulterior motives for drawing a bookish auditor (Ewan McGregor) into his world.

“Happy Feet” (2006): A heard-but-not-seen Jackman has – and is – fun as an animated penguin named Memphis.

“The Prestige” (2006): Jackman and Christian Bale compete as magicians in director and cowriter Christopher Nolan’s intelligent melodrama.

“Scoop” (2006): Woody Allen’s underrated comedy-thriller features a charming Jackman as an aristocrat suspected of being a serial killer.

“X-Men” (2000): Jackman zoomed into international stardom with his initial performance as Wolverine in this Marvel Comics adaptation.
