T ake a walk through the Bristol, England, set of Starz’s “The White Princess” and one can’t help but be immediately impressed by the attention to detail.
In a series of chambers intended to simulate the interior of London’s Westminster Abbey, there are sandstone walls and arches, mahogany trim and slate floors, all looking real to the naked eye. But do the knock test and one discovers that the sandstone and mahogany are actually hollow foam and the stone floors are really made of hardwood.
It’s a sunny mid-October day at Bottle Yard Studios, two hours west of London, where cast and crew are busy shooting scenes for one of the later installments of the eight-episode limited series, which premieres Sunday, April 16. A sequel to the 2013 miniseries “The White Queen,” this new production that’s based on a Philippa Gregory novel tells the story of a 15th century England ostensibly united by the marriage of Elizabeth

of York (Jodie Comer, “Thirteen,” “Doctor Foster”) and King Henry VII, a Tudor (played by Australian newcomer Jacob CollinsLevy).
But all is not well in the kingdom as personal and political rifts pull at the fragile seams of the new union and rumors circulate that Lizzie’s brother Prince Richard (Patrick Gibson, “The OA”) is alive and well and planning to take the throne, thus dividing her loyalties between her new husband and the rightful York king. Whispering in the ears of the newlyweds are two strong-willed mothers, Dowager Queen Elizabeth Woodville (Essie Davis, “Game of Thrones”) and Lady Margaret Beaufort (played with a steely coldness by Michelle Fairley, “24: Live Another Day”), both of whom harbor distrust and resentment for the other’s family and instill some of that in their offspring.
“I think Elizabeth is Lizzie’s guide,” explains Comer, seated at a table in one of the set’s chambers,
“and she advises Lizzie on what’s going to happen, and her mother is always there for her, especially at the beginning. And so I think her mum was just a great comfort to her. And there’s been loads of lovely little scenes and they’re like best friends in a way, especially when Margaret’s around. You know, they’re kind of like vicious when she leaves the room – it’s the look. So there’s definitely a humor.”
Henry, who spent much of his young life in exile as a political prisoner following the death of his father, really didn’t know his mother until his later years. But that didn’t stop Margaret from grooming him for the throne.
“Her whole life’s work,” Fairley says, “is getting her son on the throne because she had a vision quite young. She was fascinated with Joan of Arc and she was an only child as well, brought up pretty much on her own like Henry. And she believed that she had a vision, that God spoke to her and said she would have a son and he would be king of England and she never let that go.”

The theme of “American Horror Story” Season 7 was the much-discussed topic of conversation at the March 26 PaleyFest. It was the final night of the week-long event, and the cast of “Roanoke” were all smiles – but no one cared to spill the beans on Ryan Murphy’s ultimate plan.
Murphy previously revealed that the new season will be all about the 2016 election... But what does that actually mean?
“I think what ‘American Horror Story’ can do is: It actually goes where your imagination won’t go. I think it’ll show things you think it shouldn’t show,” series staple Denis O’Hare tells Screener: “So, never count Ryan Murphy out. He will always come up with something freakier than reality. Never count Brad Falchuk out, he’ll always come up with some way to freak you out even more.”
And so, while cast and producers remained tightlipped on the details, it didn’t stop them from revealing who they’d love to play in Season 7’s political story...
CHEYENNE JACKSON: Paul Ryan. You think what you see is what you get, but there is a lot under the surface. There’s a lot under that little grin. ... Just write me something duplicitous! Somebody who looks

straight-laced and has it all together, but then... Who knows?
DENIS O’HARE: A perverted, maniacal, charming, powerful political strategist. Basically Steve Bannon. The charming part would have to be fictional, of course...
ADINA PORTER (LEE HARRIS): I would love to play Donald Trump’s sidekick, Omarosa. You know, the woman who was going to deliver the black vote for him? I’d like to play her. And her weave.
SARAH PAULSON: I’d love to play Kellyanne Conway. I’d love to do that. But first of all, where is she? We haven’t seen her in a couple weeks. I’m just saying... She was everywhere. We could not get her to shut up – and now, where is she? She’s in a basement somewhere with a sock in her mouth? We don’t know... That’s an American Horror Story for you: What happened to Kellyanne Conway?
“American Horror Story” Season 7 premieres later this year on FX.

Bad online reviews bring good advice for struggling restaurateurs on Food’s ‘Help My Yelp’
Any restaurateur knows the power of a bad online review. One critical comment about the temperature of the coffee, the slowness of the service or the quality of the food can send customers elsewhere in a hurry, leaving the owner with a case of agita as they wonder where it all went wrong.
It is into the lives and businesses of these frazzled folks that the Yelp Elite Squad comes to show them the error of their ways and try to correct the problems in the new Food Network series “Help My Yelp.” Airing Mondays, it features a team of frequent contributors to the restaurant review website Yelp answering the SOS call from restaurant owners seeking guidance in the hopes of improving their online reviews and, ultimately, business.
“We’re living in an age where consumer reviews aren’t going anywhere,” explains the show’s host, Monti Carlo (“Cutthroat Kitchen”). “You can’t do anything anymore without getting that email that says, ‘Please talk about your experience.’ ”
“The owners reach out to us and say, ‘Yeah, things aren’t going as we would like here. Help us.’ So we set up hidden cameras and we have the Yelp Elite Squad come in unbeknownst to the restaurant owners or their staff, and they record their experience at the restaurant and talk about what they liked and what they didn’t like. I come in and I review the footage. I check out the restaurant, I talk to the owners, I kind of get a feel for how the front of the house is running, how the back of the house is running, and then we review the footage and talk about what needs to change in order for them to give a better experience to the people who are walking in those doors ... .”
The problems Carlo and the Squad find over the course of six episodes range from owners who either do too much or too little to inexperienced staff and attitude problems. Sometimes it’s just a case of an outsider’s perspective bringing light to a problem the owner is

blind to. In other cases, it’s convincing the owner that they’re the problem.
Taking criticism is never easy, nor is accepting change – even when it’s warranted.
“We were always able to convince them, ‘Just for tonight, let us implement these changes and then we’ll go from there.’ ” Carlo says. “And once they see how everything changes, it’s such a difference when you have a smooth evening at a restaurant. It can really be one of the most beautiful things in the world when things are running smoothly. It’s magic. So when that’s happening and the energy is there, the service is on point, the food is on point, that’s going to reflect immediately in the consumer reviews and the Yelp reviews. And when owners see that, it really spurs them to accept the change.”
What book are you currently reading?
“OK, I have a 7-year-old. I’m reading a couple of books, like grown-up books. I just finished ‘32 Yolks’ by Eric Ripert and then I’m in the middle of ‘Setting the Table’ by Danny Meyer. But when I read every day with him, right now we’re going through all the Shel Silverstein books and we’re in the middle of ‘Where the Sidewalk Ends.’ ”
What did you have for dinner last night?
“Danger, who’s my son, and I made burgers. We love to make burgers. When he grows up he wants to be a chef and a ninja, so I’m trying to steer him toward the chef part (laughs). It just seems like there will be blood either way, but less blood as a chef.”

Certainly, “Saturday Night Fever” made them iconic in movies as well as music ... but over several decades, the Bee Gees’ sound encompassed much more.
Surviving member Barry Gibb made harmonious magic with his late twin brothers Maurice and Robin, and the enduring results of their collaborations fuel the new CBS special “Stayin’ Alive: A Grammy Salute to the Music of the Bee Gees” Sunday, April 16. Barry himself takes the stage to perform several numbers, joining a roster that includes Celine Dion, Keith

Urban, Ed Sheeran, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Stevie Wonder, Little Big Town, Nick Jonas, Tori Kelly, Katharine McPhee, DNCE, Andra Day, Kelsea Ballerini, Thomas Rhett, Jason Derulo, Tavares, Panic! At the Disco and Pentatonix.
John Travolta also makes an appearance during the show, signaling the huge significance “Saturday Night Fever” – which gets a new 40th-anniversary DVD and Blu-ray release on May 2, and earned five Grammys for its soundtrack – had to the group’s career and his own.

In acting opposite the animated – and therefore invisible to you – character in “Imaginary Mary,” who were you reacting to?
We had a comedic actress hired to do all of Mary’s scenes, so she would be right off camera with me because I needed a comedic performance coming at me. But when I took the job, I was like, “I can’t just have the script supervisor or a random person saying Mary’s off-camera lines because I need that comedic back-and-forth and I need someone pushing against me comedically to give me that challenge for the timing and the rhythm.” And so they hired a comedic actress, this improv comedy actress who’s wonderful and she was just on set all day. Then I felt like I had a performer with me instead of empty space, which was very helpful.
And that helps with the reacting for the other actors as well?
Yes because she was giving me performance, so I had something to react to audibly and I just had to kind of invent the visual for myself. But at least I had an audio stimulation.
And you’re in every scene?
Pretty much. There were a few I wasn’t in, but I was doing 15-hour days every day.
And you get home and you’re pretty much whipped.
Yeah, and I had the kids, and it was a challenge and a game-upper in every category of life. ... The schedule of it all and the mental demand of the lines, the performance, the imaginary character, the endurance level, was like fascinating. I realized, “Oh, I’m not driving an everyday car here. This is like a finely tuned sports car in terms of me doing this job.” And so I had to cut out all sugar because I would just crash energywise if I had any sugar of any kind. ... I realized if you’re driving a finely tuned sports car that needs to perform, you can’t be putting crappy gasoline in it.

Bob Odenkirk of “Better Call Saul” on AMC
“ ‘Baskets’ is my favorite TV show right now. I think it’s maybe the best show on TV right now. I don’t know if you’ve seen this third season but the last two episodes are places you’ve never seen a comedy go. It’s really beautiful and funny and great.”

Philip Winchester of “Chicago Justice” on NBC

“Having the time is the only catch. I just finished watching ‘The Fall.’ It was brilliant!”

Phil Keoghan of “The Amazing Race” on CBS
“I love comedies. ‘The Big Bang Theory’ is always a great watch.”

Eddie Jackson of “Chopped: Star Power Tournament” on Food Network

“I don’t watch a lot of TV, but when I do, I binge-watch. I binge-watch Netflix and right now I just finished the whole season of ‘Stranger Things’ and it was addictive. I watched it in literally a day, from episode one all the way to episode 10.”

For the New York Mets to get past the Washington Nationals in the National League East, they’re going to need some powerful hitting to go along with their timely pitching. That’s why they traded for rightfielder Jay Bruce last summer before the MLB trade deadline. Bruce and the Mets will host the Nationals Saturday, April 22 on FS1.
Bruce is enjoying his first full season with the Mets, who have made the MLB playoffs each of the past two seasons. After losing to the Kansas City Royals in the 2015 World Series, the Mets finished eight games behind the Nationals in the NL East last season and bowed to the San Francisco Giants in the Wild Card game.
BY DAN LADD

For Bruce, last season was his fourth trip to the playoffs. He came into the Majors with the Cincinnati Reds during the 2008 season and quickly established himself as their starting right-fielder. His strong arm and power from the left side of the plate were welcome commodities to a team that was becoming an established contender at the time. Bruce was a big part of the Reds teams that under manager Dusty Baker (who currently manages the Nationals) enjoyed playoff runs in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
But the Reds’ small-market woes caught up to them and they quickly regressed after letting Baker go in 2013. They’ve since dealt a plethora of quality players, including Bruce, to other teams. In New York, Bruce has a chance to flourish in a market that can afford to pull some stings, including financially, to be a winner.

If you ask Phil Keoghan, there’s no better time than now for “The Amazing Race.”
Though the winner of many Emmy Awards in the reality-competition-series category didn’t have a fall season, it’s now back for its 29th round Thursdays on CBS. The twist this time is that the teams are made up of partners who didn’t know each other before their around-the-world race began, and even if some aren’t matched very happily, host Keoghan reasons that they stay motivated by sharing one thing ... a desire to win the $1 million grand prize.
“I feel like this show is more important now than it’s ever been,” he maintains. “Because of the political divide that exists in this country, and the fear of foreigners and overseas travel, ensuring that we stay connected with the rest of the world makes this show an important piece of content for people to understand that there are places where Americans are welcome.
“It’s important for us to accept difference and celebrate that difference,” the friendly Keoghan adds, “and to see it as a good thing that people around the world are exactly as we are. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been stopped by people who have said, ‘Thank you for making the show. It really has opened my eyes to what we don’t see in the news.’ And I really do believe our show is the antithesis of what you see in the news, which is what’s wrong. And what we put in our show is what’s right.”
Also one of the bikers in “Le Ride,” a documentary film (produced by Keoghan’s wife, Louise) that recreates fellow New Zealand native Harry Watson’s ride in the 1928 Tour de France, Keoghan recalls giving a recent speech and seeing in the audience “what I love, as an emigrant, about America: incredible diversity, with every skin color known to mankind, and lots of different ethnicities.
“I think there’s a tension that exists in the world right now, and we need more open communication. What we’re selling (with ‘The Amazing Race’) is, ‘There’s some good happening in the world, and why don’t you sit down and let us share it with you?’ ”

On having worked with Tom Bergeron (“Dancing With the Stars”) on “Fox After Breakfast” and ‘Breakfast Time“: ”He’s a pro, and we’re both very lucky to be in the positions that we are, to be doing what we do. It is an honor, and I don’t take it lightly.“

BY JAY BOBBIN

Favorite movie: “Any underdog story, I love – so I love this film called ‘The World’s Fastest Indian,’ about a New Zealander who came to America to race in the Bonneville Salt Flats and broke a world record. And I love ‘The Shawshank Redemption,’ which I know is a favorite film for a lot of people, but I could just watch it over and over again. And I love ‘Bad Day at Black Rock,’ because I love Spencer Tracy. I also love any Hitchcock film, ‘The Great Escape’ ... and ‘The Blue Max,’ which (filmmaker) Peter Jackson got me onto. I did an interview with him, and that’s the first movie he remembers ever seeing.”
Favorite singer: “You listen to the purity of Adele or Whitney Houston or Stevie Wonder or Ed Sheeran ... and I love mavericks like Grace Jones in the ’80s, and Talking Heads and Peter Gabriel, and even if you look at Dire Straits. And, of course, the classics like the Beatles.”
“Bill Nye Saves the World,” www.netflix.com/ title/80117748
With science coming under fire in some corners of the political realm, this series from the Emmy-nominated scientist and educator seems well-timed. Here, the evercurious Nye tackles topics from a scientific point of view, dispelling myths and refuting anti-scientific claims along the way through panel discussions, correspondent reports and lab demonstrations. Drops Friday.
“Girlboss,” www.netflix.com/title/80115671
Based on the best-selling book “Girlboss” by Sophia Amoruso, this half-hour drama series stars Britt Robertson (“Life Unexpected,” “Tomorrowland”) as Amoruso, who began selling vintage clothes on eBay and by the age of 28 had built a multi-million dollar fashion empire. Kay Cannon (“30 Rock”), Charlize Theron and Amoruso are among the executive producers. Drops Friday with 13 episodes.
“Ellen’s Pet Dish,” ellentube.com/lists/ petsmart/
As viewers of “Ellen” know, Ellen DeGeneres is a fan of cute dogs and cats, and she shares tales of animal adventures in this new animated series. The 12 episodes follow a cast of seven pets as they hang out in the home of DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi and, of course, tune in and watch their owner on TV.
“Special Skills,” thespecialskillsshow.com
Fans of the Windy City-set Dick Wolf series “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago Med” and “Chicago P.D.” will want to take a look at this series created by and starring “Fire” regular Marina Squerciati and Patrick Webb as two struggling actors trying to break into show business. Expect in-jokes to be in abundance as the cast includes “Chicago” series regulars Monica Raymund, Kara Killmer, Patrick Flueger, Amy Morton and LaRoyce Hawkins.

The White Princess
This new sequel to the Emmynominated 2013 miniseries “The White Queen” charts the 15thcentury union of Elizabeth of York (Jodie Comer, “Doctor Foster”) and King Henry VII (Australian newcomer Jacob Collins-Levy), a marriage intended to unite politically unstable England. There’s little chance of that happening, however: Elizabeth’s brother Prince Richard (Patrick Gibson) is planning to reclaim his rightful throne. Michelle Fairley (“Game of Thrones”) and Essie Davis (“Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries”) also star.
8 p.m. on HBO
The Leftovers
As the critically acclaimed drama returns for its third and final season, it’s been three years since the Guilty Remnant came pouring into tiny Miracle, Texas. Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) has returned to his former role as chief of police, and he seems to have moved past the incredible events that surrounded his “resurrection.” The seventh anniversary of the Sudden Departure is looming, however, and many wonder whether another apocalyptic event may be in the offing in the new “The Book of Kevin.”
8 p.m. on SHOW Guerrilla
A passion project for Oscar-winning screenwriter John Ridley (“12 Years a Slave”), this six-part limited drama is set in a racially torn England of the 1970s, when Scotland Yard went so far as to create a Black Power Desk in its bureau, a task
force dedicated to thwarting the escalating black rights movement in Great Britain. Idris Elba, also an executive producer, appears in the ensemble cast, along with Babou Seesay, Freida Pinto, Brandon Scott, Denise Gough and Nathaniel Martello-White.
7 p.m. on KOKI 24: Legacy
As big an organization as CTU might be, everything comes down to Carter (Corey Hawkins) as this latest iteration of the suspense franchise ends its season with “11:00 PM-12:00 AM.” Saving the day — and we do mean the one day, literally — falls on his shoulders when Rebecca’s (Miranda Otto) efforts go awry, leaving him to carry out a vital exchange successfully. Jimmy Smits, Teddy Sears, Anna Diop, Dan Bucatinsky and Gerald McRaney also star.
8:01 p.m. on KOKI APB
Echoes of the movie “Panic Room” infuse the new episode “Pandora’s Box,” as Gideon (Justin Kirk) takes refuge at home from people who are endangering him. They locate him there — hardly a big surprise — and he and Murphy (Natalie Martinez) get trapped in the lab he has on the premises. As they try to figure out how to get away safely. Murphy learns the reason behind their predicament. Taylor Handley, Ernie Hudson and Caitlin Stasey also star.
9 p.m. on KOED Independent Lens
The benefits of seeds have been known for as long as mankind has existed, but some are being threatened with extinction now. Taggart Siegel and Jon Betz’s documentary “Seed: The Untold Story” shows how people from such disciplines as farmer, lawyer and scientist are trying to ensure that the diversity of crops — and, thus, the future of food — is protected. Dr. Jane Goodall and Andrew Kimbrell, of the Center for Food Safety, are among those commenting here.
TUESDAY

Meanwhile, A.D.’s final endgame is revealed through a new “gift” to the Liars.
8 p.m. on KOTV Bull
Isaiah Washington (“The 100”) guest stars as an attorney who becomes a defendant, accused of killing his fiancee, in the new
episode “Bring It On.” Bull (Michael Weatherly) helps him, but ultimately determines the man is his own best weapon in providing an effective defense through his courtroom showmanship. Freddy Rodriguez, Geneva Carr and Jaime Lee Kirchner also star.
8 p.m. on KOED Frontline
Solitary confinement is a unique experience for most convicts, and it can seem even more so when they are released back into society afterward. The new two-hour episode “Last Days of Solitary” profiles several such inmates as they leave isolation at the Maine State Prison and attempt to reassimilate into the world outside. As the challenges they face are detailed, the program notes plans being made to reduce the use of enforced solitude.
9:02 p.m. on DISC Cooper’s Treasure
A real rock star among the first seven NASA astronauts, Gordon “Gordo” Cooper was younger and flashier than his peers. He also was resourceful. On a mission to look for nuclear sites while orbiting the Earth, Cooper started noticing something else: shipwrecks. Over the years he used that information to create a treasure map before he died in 2004. This new series follows his friend, Darrell Miklos, as he tries to decode and follow the map Cooper crafted.
7 p.m. on KOKI Shots Fired

David Thewlis, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jim Gaffigan also star.
9:03 p.m. on SYFY The Expanse
The keen relief felt by the crew of the Rocinante over their narrow escape is shattered by a violent attack from an unexpected enemy, forcing them once again into a desperate fight to save their ship on the season finale “Caliban’s War.” Bobbie Draper (Frankie Adams) is Avasarala’s (Shohreh Aghdashloo) only chance for survival when the latter finds herself trapped by enemies and far from any other help.
8 p.m. on KJRH

“Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” (2011): A charming McGregor plays an amorous – thanks to co-star Emily Blunt’s character –consultant on a sheik’s ambitious, improbable desert project.
“The Ghost Writer” (2010): An excellent McGregor portrays a silent-partner author thrust into danger when he works with a scandal-ridden former British prime minister (Pierce Brosnan).
“Big Fish” (2003): McGregor splits a role with Albert Finney by playing the younger version of a man who delves into his father’s life.
“Down With Love” (2003): The part of a dashing 1960s playboy suits McGregor nicely in this stylish spoof of the Doris Day-Rock Hudson brand of romantic comedy.
“Black Hawk Down” (2001): McGregor is among those playing soldiers in the unsettlingly realistic dramatization of an Army Rangers raid on Somalia, which left helicopter crews stranded.
“Moulin Rouge!” (2001): He sings, too! McGregor is impressive as he croons his way through the role of a poet in love.
“Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” (1999): It’s quite a task to play the early incarnation of an iconic character, and McGregor pulls it off as the young Obi-Wan Kenobi, which he also did in the other two prequels.
“Velvet Goldmine” (1998): As a literal rock star who inspired others to push their own performances to the limit, McGregor is magnetic under the direction of Todd Haynes.
“Trainspotting” (1996): Director Danny Boyle’s counterculture classic (which now has a two-decadeslater sequel) features McGregor as an attempted fugitive from the drug scene.
“Shallow Grave” (1994): This great little thriller casts McGregor, also working with Boyle here, as one of three robbery-plotting friends.
