Keith Urban could add several more CMA Awards to his 11

Last year’s single of the year winner for “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” Urban surely is no stranger to the CMA Awards. Having received 11 of the awards thus far, he now has his 11th nomination for entertainer of the year and his 14th bid for male vocalist of the ear, and the personally significant “Graffiti U” has yielded his sixth try for album of the year

“It’s a groundbreaking record in a lot of ways,” the friendly Urban says, “I think a lot of people thought it was kind of risky when they heard it, but for me as an artist, it felt true and authentic. What’s been interesting about it is watching the record take hold as we’ve been touring. I’ve met people who have been like, ‘I saw you play live, then I went back and heard the record, and I ‘get’ this.’ I love that.”

Still, Urban admits he omitted one of its tunes from his concerts for a while: “There are a lot of things I love about the song ‘Female,’ including the fact that it’s posed as questions, which is a beautiful way to write a song that’s going to bring out points for discussion. When you hear a song saying that ou run the world, do you believe it?

“I was devastated, though, when it got picked up by the the media as just being some song about Harvey Weinstein. I was gutted to my core, because that’s not why I recorded it and that’s not what it’s about. I stopped playing it for a moment, because it was being completely misrepresented. Then I put it back in, because I knew why I recorded it and what it means to me. It will always be in my set now. ”

When you signed up to join “Lethal Weapon,” did you feel a need to look at episodes done before this third season of the show, since you were coming in fresh to establish a new character?

I think I went back and watched a little bit of the first season, then I sor t of stopped myself. I thought, “I just want to read a new script and see what that feels like,” having not really known what the show was before. I just know that people are ver y passionate about it, which is really cool.

It’s not “new” like doing a series pilot, but you do feel the newness of the relationships and getting to know ever ybody It’s a rare thing to get to do that well into the run of a show

With another TV-movie sequel to the series “Psych” in the works, what can you say about it?

Ever ything is in motion for it to happen. It’ll just have to be next year, because of ever yone’s schedules, but I cannot wait. And to be able to have more time with Tim (co-star Omundson, who suf fered a minor stroke before the first movie was made) and work with him more, I’m chomping at the bit, as they say I’ve heard a little bit of the plot, and it’s great.

You’ve also done your share of Hallmark movies lately. Are more of those in store for you?

If there’s room in the future, we’ll hopefully be doing something together again at some point. Right now, I’m focusing on doing something dif ferent and getting more into the drama space again, and that’s why I’m so excited about “Lethal Weapon.”

‘Single Parents’ will have an ABC home for a while

Q: How is “Single Parents” doing? I’d like to see it stay around for a while. – Carol Miles, Providence, R.I.

“Single Parents”

A: So would ABC, and after the first several episodes aired, the network gave the comedy featuring Leighton Meester and Brad Garrett a full-season order ... certainly a good sign. The show is fulfilling the notion that it would be ver y compatible with “Modern Family,” the likely hope being that “Parents” could carr y the same mantle (and audience) whenever the long-running “Family’s” time is up. As for now, ABC is giving the newer series’ stars prime positioning, as demonstrated by the really good seat Taran Killam had at last month’s American Music Awards.

Q: Seeing her on “Camping” has made me think of other series Jennifer Garner has done. I know she starred in “Alias,” but weren’t there others? – David Hayes, via e-mail

A: After early appearances in episodes of such shows as “Law & Order” and “Spin City,” she was cast in the Fox drama “Significant Others,” which lasted only briefly in spinning the saga of several close friends. The network remembered her a few years later when it was casting “Time of Your Life,” a “Party of Five” spinoff built around Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Sarah. Garner then went in to appear several times on the then-WB Network’s “Felicity,” whose creative forces included J.J. Abrams – and when he needed someone to

British actor James Purefoy calls himself a wine enthusiast and a “useful idiot” who has no use for wine snobbery. And it’s that average-guy sensibility he brings to his role as co-host of Season 2 of Ovation’s “The Wine Show.”

Premiering Thursday, Nov. 15, the new batch of seven episodes finds the star of such productions as “Rome,” “Hap and Leonard” and “Altered Carbon” joining Season 1 co-host Matthew Goode (“The Imitation Game”) as they set off from their villa in the Provence region of France to uncover some of the best wines in the world and the stories behind them.

And then explain it all to the viewer as a relative layman, which Purefoy considers himself “There is an awful lot of language spoken about it and words used and ideas used around wine I think we’re all familiar with,” the personable actor explains, “which can turn people off from trying wine or saying what they think about a glass of wine because they don’t want to sound stupid. They don’t want to sound ignorant about things. And really what we decided was we just came down to one very simple idea: Does this glass of wine give you pleasure? And if it gives you pleasure, that’s a good glass of wine.”

Like last season, Purefoy and Goode visit regions around the world – including Germany, Japan, Argentina, Bosnia and the United States – to sample wines and bring them back for the evaluation and enjoyment of returning experts Joe Fattorini and Amelia Singer and newcomers Jancis Robinson and Jaega Wise.

Purefoy replaces last year’s co-host Matthew Rhys, who had to downsize his role because of filming commitments, so this season he appears in segments demonstrating wine gadgets. This left Purefoy – whose interest in wine dates back more than a decade to his time in Italy filming “Rome” – the opportunity to spend three weeks in France drinking great wine and taking in a lot of useful wine knowledge. Because somebody had to do it.

“One of the things ‘ The Wine Show’ taught me,” Purefoy says, “... was just to pay attention, to respect a glass of wine, to pay attention to the hours that have gone into making it and the weeks and the months and the years and into the system that’s gone into making it.

“And when you drink it, don’t just neck it,” he continues, “don’t just throw it down the back of your throat so that it doesn’t touch the sides. But just give it a bit of a smell, give it a whiff, roll it round in your hand a little bit in the glass and then taste it, and then just pay attention to what that taste is.
