‘Rent’ is on time for

Brandon Victor Dixon and others on Fox

After you’ve made a television mark by earning an Emmy nomination and wide acclaim by starring in a live broadcast of a stage classic, how do you follow it?

By starring in a live broadcast of another stage classic.

That’s the path Brandon Victor Dixon is following, at least. Singled out by many critics and viewers for his Judas Iscariot performance in last Easter’s “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert,” the “Power” alum now is in the ensemble cast of “Rent.” Fox televises the late Jonathan Larson’s Tony- and Pulitzer Prizewinning work Sunday, Jan. 27.

Translating themes of the Puccini opera “La Boheme” to New York’s East Village during the AIDS crisis, the production – featuring the iconic song “Seasons of Love” – focuses on several people who lean on one another while pursuing their respective goals. Dixon plays Tom Collins, a computer scientist who is struggling personally and professionally; also in the cast are Kiersey Clemons (“Flatliners’), Vanessa Hudgens (”High School Musical“), Jordan Fisher, Brennin Hunt and the single-named Tinashe (a recent ”Dancing With the Stars“ contestant), Mario and Valentina.

A Tony Award winner as a producer (for the 2014 Broadway revival of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”), Dixon is developing other projects

for theater and film. However, he says that “ as an actor, I didn’t know exactly what my next thing was going to be. I was really just looking for whatever would kind of pique my interest.”

Dixon’s familiarity with “Rent” began when he was a Columbia University sophomore. “I didn’t understand the show the first time I saw it,” he allows, “but I had an audition for it a few weeks later, so I bought the album and started to listen to the music, and it all really came to life for me. I fell in love with the message of the show and the feeling of the show.

“It’s also the only show I’ve ever gone to an open call for,” adds Dixon. “By the time it started, the line circled the block in its entirety and started to circle the next block over I went out for it seven times and never got cast.” However, Dixon ultimately ended up filling in “for about three months” in an Off-Broadway staging.

Despite his increased fame, Dixon – who’s also in the forthcoming Amazon anthology “Modern Love” – maintains his life “hasn’t changed at all. I was out in L.A. recently and when I got back, all my friends were like, ‘You gettin’ all the offers? You workin’ constantly now?’ I’m still shaking my behind out on the street. The only thing that has changed is that I’m doing it in nicer clothes for more people.”

While you were starting “Schooled,” you also were still working on “The Goldbergs,” bringing Lainey’s storyline there to a close of sorts. How was that?

It was emotional. It’s interesting; as an actor, you get so close to the other actors on these sets. It was like, “OK, we’ve got to wrap up here so Lainey can have her time in the ‘90s.”

Since music is in your background, and Lainey is a music teacher in “Schooled,” do you get to be musical much in the new show?

I do! Mainly, I’m kind of guiding the kids through their musical journeys, but the cool par t is that she’s able to lend her thoughts and skills to the kids she’s teaching. And that’s really neat, and some great little musical numbers come up.

Your fellow-actress sister Aly also has been your singing partner. Is there a chance she could show up on “Schooled” in some sort of tuneful capacity?

I‘ve thought about that as well, and I think that would be something Adam (Goldberg, an executive producer of both “Schooled” and

“The Goldbergs”) would definitely consider He’s all about keeping to the aesthetic of his real life, so for him, it has to feel organized and real to his experience.

If he found there was a character from that world that Aly would really fit, he would make it work but he’s extremely par ticular about what he puts in his shows, which I have a lot of respect for. He doesn’t just throw in things for convenience’s sake. He thinks about ever ything, which I think is what makes for a great showrunner

Where is ‘You’ going?

Q: I was a huge fan of the series “You” on Lifetime last year, but I have read that though it has been renewed for a second season, it will not be on Lifetime. Where is it going? –Gar y Pompeo, Wheeling, W. Va.

A: It’s moving to Netflix for its sophomore season. The Penn Badgley-starring show actually was given a Season 2 by Lifetime before the first round ever premiered, but writer-producer Sera Gamble – who was one of the developers of the Caroline Kepnes novel for its television incarnation – has said that the second season ultimately didn’t match up with Lifetime’s “business model.”

Netflix actually has been the home of “You” from the star t in other countries (the Season 1 episodes are now on the streaming ser vice in the United States as well), so viewers abroad won’t detect a dif ference in where to find it when the new begin, which could be before 2019 ends.

It seems counterintuitive that a diet high in fat will help you lose weight. But those who have dropped pounds in the triple digits on the ketogenic diet swear by it.

As the new year and your resolutions move into their second month, you may or may not be meeting your weight-loss goals. So if you’re thinking keto might be the way to go, a number of videos on YouTube can tell you what it’s all about and show you how to get started.
