Precision is important for stylist Ashley Morgan, and it’s evident as she pulls away a few strands of hair aside while doing a color job.

Such care has been a key part of her 12 1/2 years at Wild West Salon. She’s been at the York Street salon for her entire styling career.

“I started working here the week after I got out of beauty school,” Morgan said. “It’s a convenient location, I get along with all the girls I work with. It’s where people know where I’m at.”

The Virgil’s Beauty College graduate has practiced her craft over the past 12 years — and she keeps learning.

“They want all of the things,” Morgan said. “They want what they see in Pinterest.”

She said she sometimes tells her customers they might not get what they see elsewhere.

“I just try to be honest with my clients and tell them what they can and cannot have, and how long it will take to get them there,” she said. “That is one thing about me is that I will be honest. I will give someone my honest professional opinion.”

Morgan specializes in women’s styles, but also does men and children.

Morgan said she’s learned to read her clients’ reactions over the years.

“You can tell instantly by the look on their face when they see it for the first time,” she said. “Even if they say they like it, you can tell if they don’t by the look on their face. You can tell by their face if they love it and they really do.”

She said some of her clients have stayed with her since beauty college.

“I still gain new clients all the time,” she said.

Nick Cannon, owner of Nix Automotive, was speechless when he was told he was voted “Best Auto Mechanic” in the 2020 Muskogee Phoenix Readers’ Choice poll.

It was the third nomination for his shop and his first win in the 13 years he’s been open for business.

With all the repair shops in Muskogee, Cannon knows he has to go the extra mile to maintain customer loyalty.

“We’re still gonna be the same shop. We’re gonna try every day like we always have.”

Nix Automotive is located at 114 N. C St. between East Okmulgee Avenue and Broadway.
