‘Superman & Lois’ takes of f as CW series premieres
The Man of Steel and Lois Lane have been married on television before, but viewers now can see what they’re like as parents, too
The CW expands its DC Universe again by launching “Superman & Lois” Tuesday, Feb. 23, with a 90-minute premiere followed by a behind-the-scenes special. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprise the iconic roles they’ve played on “Supergirl” and in the crossover sagas “Elseworlds” and “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” taking the characters back to Smallville as they raise their sons Jonathan and Jordan (Jordan Elsass, Alexander Gar fin). Still there is Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui), now married to the local fire chief (Erik Valdez) and with her own child, Sarah (Inde Navarrette).
“I really don’t have a histor y with the character,” friendly “7th Heaven” alum Hoechlin admits about Superman before starting to portray him. “I played baseball and was acting at a young age, so all of my free time was taken up, and comic books weren’t really my thing ... but in what I think in a fortunate way, that lack of histor y is beneficial, in that I can approach (Superman) in a way that’s ver y honest and intuitive.”
Tulloch says she feels “it doesn’t get much better” than to land as prominent a part as Lois, and she feels
the new show’s appeal is in presenting Lois and Superman’s earthy alter ego Clark Kent as “modern, working parents who are kind of the best of the best in their careers, but as parents, they’re flailing a lot. Especially in 2021, when we’ve had a difficult past year, a lot of people are struggling. Lois and Clark make mistakes. And their kids react accordingly.”
Hoechlin believes having played Superman a number of times before starting his own show in the role was helpful, “though the tone is very different from what we did on the other shows. We’ve never seen this before, and that’s a ver y freeing experience on the set. ”
The wife of David Giuntoli of ABC’s “A Million Little Things” (and his co-star on the earlier “Grimm”), Tulloch – who used to go by the first name “Bitsie” professionally – was well into a pregnancy when she first played Lois in the “Elseworlds” miniseries.
“I am very career-driven and ambitious,” Tulloch states in likening herself to Lois, “ so I never saw myself not being a working actress/mother. David has much shorter working days than I do, so it‘s tough on the days when I go to work at 5:30 in the morning and come home at 9 or 10 at night and don’t see my daughter once during the day. I make sure I spend a lot of time with her on the weekends.”
Gio Benitez of ABC News and “I Survived a Crime” on A+E Network
Jason Biggs of “Cherries Wild” on Fox
“It would probably be a game show.
‘Wheel of For tune’ and ‘Jeopardy!’ air back-to-back, and I’ll come home and throw those on. It’s just easy watching. They get the brain cells functioning as well, but it’s a good way to unwind.”
“ ‘Emily in Paris’ is just a fun show You don’t have to do a lot of thinking and it takes you to Paris!”

“I have just downloaded all of ‘Schitt’s Creek’ because it’s embarrassing that I haven’t seen it but it is the show ever ybody says, ‘Well, why haven’t you seen ”Schitt’s Creek“?’ (Laughs) So that’s the next thing on my to-do list.” 2 x 3” ad (918) 458-5455 • 14400 Highway 82 www.HearthAndPool.com

Ali Khan embraces the culinar y experiences on ‘Spring Baking Championship’
It stands to reason that if you’re a judge on “Spring Baking Championship,” you need to have an adventurous palate.
After all, the confections you’re sampling may not be to your liking or within your comfort zone but you do have to be open to the experience.
Same holds true for the host. While Ali Khan (“Cheap Eats”) isn’t rendering a judgment on the confections created by contestants on the show, he does try everything. And says he’s the better foodie for it.
“What’s interesting with being a part of this show, and really any food show,” he explains, “is trying things that you would never actually order So things that involve fruit and things like that, I’d be like, ‘I don’t want that. I don’t want oatmeal raisin fruitcake. That sounds like a horrible idea.’ But you are on this show and the smell of butter, I can get over my whole chocolate crutch right there. it’s really fun to try things that I would never order on my own. ”
As the competition series opens its seventh season with a fresh batch of 10 episodes Monday, Feb. 22, on Food Network, Kardea Brown (“Delicious Miss Brown”) joins the judging panel with Duff Goldman and Nancy Fuller as 11 talented professional and home bakers from across the country take on two rounds of spring-themed baking challenges for a shot at a $25,000 grand prize and a spot in Food Network Magazine.
In Monday’s two-hour opener, the competitors are tasked with creating farm stand-inspired breakfast treats, followed by a dessert challenge that celebrates happy, dancing cows.

“I think we called him ‘Professor Duff ’ more than once when we’d introduce him as a judge,” Khan says. “And I think that just reflects the fact that he’s a classically trained chef, his years of experience in the art of pastry is very, very obvious. And I think ultimately when you have people who really, really understand this, they can break down, when they taste something, certainly where something goes wrong.
“I watched Amanda Freitag break down why a sauce tastes like Olive Garden sauce to me when I was a judge on ‘Chopped,’ ” he continues. “I was like, ‘ This tastes like Olive Garden.’ She goes, ‘He didn’t cook the wine enough ... so you’re tasting the alcohol.’ I’m like, ‘Oh my God, that’s what that is.’ Duff very much still holds that role.”

Jenny (voice of Kristen Wiig) lets Louise (voice of guest star Emily Spivey) use Wayne (voice of Ike Barinholtz) as a pretend boyfriend after her husband dies in a tragic cruise ship accident in the new episode “ Big Pimpin’.” Elsewhere, while Betty (voice of Maya Rudolph) makes a guest appearance on Violet’s (voice of Jillian Bell) podcast, she blurts out some murder accusations. Oscar Montoya, Grey Griffin, David Herman and Phil LaMarr also guest star in the voice cast.
7 p.m. on KQCW Batwoman Commander Kane (Dougray Scott) and Agent Moore (Meagan Tandy) approach Batwoman (Javicia Leslie) with a request for her to boost an infamous work of art that reveals the way to Coryana and Kate in the new episode “Gore on Canvas.” Luke and Mary (Camrus Johnson, Nicole Kang) persuade a reluctant Ryan to take the assignment, but that decision causes tensions on the Bat-team to escalate. Elsewhere, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) tries to fulfill Safiyah’s (guest star Shivaani Ghai) insidious request.
8 p.m. on KOTV NCIS: Los Angeles Series regular Daniela Ruah, who plays Special Agent Kensi Blye, also directed the new episode “Russia, Russia, Russia,” which finds Callen (Chris O’Donnell) attending the National Counterterrorism Center on the pretext that he is interrogating a Russian asset from a crashed plane case he probed months earlier. As things take an unexpected turn, however, Callen finds himself detained and accused of being a Russian agent himself. Gerald McRaney reprises his recurring guest role as Adm. Hollace Kilbride; Seamus Dever (“Castle”) also guest stars.
