SUSTAINABLE MICROHOME SUMMARY -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------At the outset of this project, I was given a footprint square footage restriction on which to design a home. From that beginning restriction, I began to consider not only the physical footprint but also the environmental footprint. The result is a microhome located in rural Maquoketa, Iowa which utilizes both active and passive environmental solutions to create a comfortable residence for two with a minimized environmental footprint.
CONCEPT -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SELF. This microhome will promote inward thought, sensory clarity, and meditation through thoughtful organization and multi-sensory design.
OTHER. This microhome will ground its human users in nature through site selection, use of natural materials, and access to expansive views.
ENVIRONMENT. This microhome will promote environmental stewardship through sustainable solutions, renewable materials and renewable resources.
