Act Like Men
from March 2020
by Dr. Ralph Jenkins
In today’s world and our culture, living like men is counter to the Bible’s definition of how men should act.

1 Corinthians 16:13-14: “Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”
These are powerful verses when taken to heart for men. We are to: Be on the Alert
It means to be awake and never let one’s guard down. Ephesians 6:11: “Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.” The devil is scheming to take your life, marriage, family, community, and church from you. All one needs to do is look around. We can see the devil at work destroying the lives of men, husbands, fathers, and their marriages, families, and communities. We must, with all prayer and petition, pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints. Stand Firm in the Faith In Scripture, we’re encouraged with words like, “Walk by faith and not by sight,” “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of Christ,” and, “I have kept the faith.” What is faith? It’s receiving, believing, accepting, and acting upon the truth of Scripture. We must stand firm, proclaim, contend, and defend the faith. Why? The eternal lives and souls of our
loved ones fall upon our willingness to stand. Godly men stand firm in their faith and are “not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for they know that it is the power of God unto salvation for all men.” Act Like Men
1 Corinthians 6:9 says the effeminate man will not inherit the kingdom of Heaven. It means to have feminine traits; dress, talk, and be dainty like a woman; and to love other men like a woman. We were created in Christ to be men fashioned after Him. Therefore, we should act like Christian men. Lead your home, family, church, and community like a man of God. Be Strong
We’re talking about good character and conduct: living a life of purity and holiness. Don’t leave home without it, and come home with it intact. Refuse to waste your life and energy on foolish, fleshly lusts. Let All That You Do Be Done in Love
The Bible has much to say about love: how a man loves a woman, a husband loves his wife, a father
loves his children, a man loves his church, a man loves his fellow man, and most importantly, how a man loves God—with all his heart, mind, soul, and strength. You can have all the other qualities—be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, and be strong—but it’s worthless if all you do is not in love for God, family, friends, and others, even your enemies.
