Worship Is Love

38 // March 2020 by Zebbie Brewster About The Author Zebbie Brewster resides in Summerville, Georgia. She is an active member at Perennial Springs Baptist Church. I remember when I worked, I would catch myself looking out the window of my office on a warm sunny day, wishing I were sitting on the fishing bank somewhere, fishing. Just the memories of the warm sun, peace, and serenity found there were beckoning me to come. I think back, and then, I must have considered that to be my “Happy Place.” You have to really love to fish to understand that.

I love in the Bible how it speaks of fishermen. Luke 5:1-11: “And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And He sat down, and taught out of the ship. Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help then. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ feet saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished and all that were with him, at the draught of fishes which they had taken: And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.”

If you are a fisherman, you probably have a fish story about the one that got away or the best day ever you had fishing. A story worth repeating. Especially if you shared the experience with someone else.

I saw for the first time the word “draught” in Scripture: verse 4, Jesus’ words in red, when He tells Simon, “Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught,” and in verse 9, “For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of fishes which they had taken.”

God performed a miracle right there in front of them, a miracle that I am sure that they shared with anyone who would listen. Because they obeyed Jesus, He was able to bless their obedience with a miracle so powerful that these men forsook all and followed Jesus. When Jesus saves a lost soul, that, too, is a miracle. We are the souls that those fishermen are still fishing for now. Have you given your heart to Jesus? Salvation is only a prayer away. Call unto Him, and He will hear. Romans 10:13: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” I am praying for you today, Dear Friend. Now go and share that good news with someone else.
