As we step into a new year, a new decade, a new day, we really need to evaluate ourselves and our
choices. 2020 is a new opportunity to do new things or to enhance the good things that we are already doing. God gave Adam a charge found in Genesis 1: He commanded him to be fruitful, to multiply, to replenish, to subdue, and to have dominion. As believers, that same charge is in place today.
We have the mandate to produce these God assignments. Ephesians 2:10 also tells us that we are the masterpieces of God, recreated in Christ Jesus for the purpose of good works which God Himself has
already ordained us to do. This charge is still in place. It’s good to be fruitful, it’s good to multiply, it’s good to replenish, it’s good to subdue, and it’s good to take our dominion. Therefore, passivity for the believer is really a denial of what God has for us. Let’s look at these a little in detail.
What does it mean to be fruitful? To be fruitful is to reproduce in abundance on behalf of the Kingdom of God: plenteous and abundant in the things of God. What about to multiply? To multiply is to increase on a larger scale than normal. To replenish? This means to fill up or to refill, to bring life back to what’s dead. What about subdue? This is to bring under order, refusing to allow wilderness. And to understand dominion simply means to take authority over. I am well assured that this is convicting and may seem impossible. If God has said it, then it must be possible. Listen, don’t limit these words to a narrow place in your life; expand it to your world, and expand it to our world. 2020, and even the days to come, are not to wildly take us by storm. We are to intercede for our world, declare God’s word over our world, vote in our world, speak up in our world, and not be ashamed of the Gospel in our world. This is our land, and this is our responsibility!
