PRESIDENT’S NOTE Dan Bouet
September is a busy month for our club, and there are some really fun events on the calendar plus lots of chances to meet new members and catch up with friends.
Frank Grimmelman and Rook Younger have put together a special celebration for PCA’s 70th Anniversary. Interest was huge, and while we would have loved to open it up to more than 100 members, the space just wouldn’t allow it this time. The good news is we’re already looking at ways to use The Vault again for a future AZPCA event, so stay tuned.
If you’re looking for a bigger get-together, Frank has you covered there too, the Porsches ‘n Pancakes at Anthem Country Club is coming up, and this year it’s double the size. We already have 150 signed up (with room for 200), and it just keeps growing every year. It’s always a great time, so if you haven’t been before, this is the one to check out.
I also want to say thank you to everyone who stepped forward as a candidate for our upcoming Board of Directors election. It’s exciting to see so many people willing to share their time and energy to help shape the future of our club.
The candidate bios are a great read, many include not just Porsche backgrounds but also professional and personal experiences.
I encourage you to take a look and cast your vote once the ballots open.
Looking forward to seeing you all at one (or more!) of these great events in September.
Dan Bouet
From the EDITORS Gregg and Ali Bull
As Bob Dylan famously sang “The times they are a-changin.”
August was definitely a time of change, unfortunately Andy Cole has had to step down from a number of his roles within the club due to work responsibilities, we wish him all the best with his future endeavors.
We are pleased to let you know a number of our members have stepped up to help fill those roles;
Angela Manente will take over Andy’s Vice President role for the remainder of his term.
Bob Lewis has volunteered to become the Head Concours Judge
Chris Irwin has also stepped up to act as the Assistant Concours Judge.
Bill Stubbs will act as the Concours Chair.
A big thank you to everyone for coming to the club’s rescue on such short notice.
As far as AZPCA club activities go for August, it was a very quiet time given the summer weather and members’ travel schedules. Frank and Maria did however manage to slip in a club favorite as they hosted a Porsches n’ Pancakes at Schmooze in Old Scottsdale.
September is shaping up to be a fun filled month, members’ have a ton of activities to enjoy;
Sept 13 we have the PCA 70th Anniversary Celebration at the Vault.
Sept 20 is the 12th annual Anthem Porsches n’ Pancakes.
Sept 25 - 26 we head out on the Cottonwood Wine Tasting & Charity Drive.
Sept 27-28 the HPDE gang head over to INDE for a fun filled weekend for track driving.
If you missed out on any of these activities here are a few words of wisdom.
Check out Goings Places, read the eBlasts and always check out the AZPCA website for all the info.
Stay safe and keep smiling.

Director at Large
Aaron Heimke
I grew up here, ASU graduate, then was Active-Duty U.S. Army as a career officer, serving in a wide range of roles including command in Armor, and senior staff positions mostly in strategic planning and global policy, focused in Europe (the majority of my time and assignments was in Germany, Italy, and France) with combat zone deployments in the Middle East. My final assignment was as the Army Attache at the US Embassy in Paris. I retired in 2020 and returned to Phoenix.
Since retirement from the Army, I have been the Global Account Manager for Military Sales at Michelin North America.
My Porsche CV:
30-year PCA member, with time in several regions, including Germany region, Alpine Mountain (Colorado), and Potomac Region in DC/Northern Virginia. Cars owned: 1975 911S, 1985.5 944, 1996 993, and currently 2010 Carrera S (997.2). I am a long-term “car guy” and Porsche Enthusiast. I tend towards the technical side of things, and do most of the work on my cars, spending a good amount of time to understand everything about the cars.
I feel I am uniquely positioned to serve as an “At Large” board member due to my widely varied and extensive activities and experience in the automotive enthusiast’s world.

I've been in property management for close to 20 years with our families’ commercial properties. I am a long time Rotarian, Eagle Scout and a Porsche enthusiast (I only own 5 so Alpio has me beat). I am relatively new to the club, roughly 2 years ago my brother-in-law recommended we join. He mentioned that you were a fun group with awesome drives and committed to having a good time. Please consider me for the position of Director-at-Large.

Director at Large
Michael Mansour
Hello, my name is Michael, and I am a current member of the Porsche Club of America Arizona Region. My wife, Jia, our daughter, Cici, and I reside in Scottsdale. For the past 23 years, I've honed my leadership, business, and innovation skills, including 15 years as a software sales executive in Silicon Valley and the last three managing a private equity firm. My professional background, supported by a Master's degree in Management from Harvard, has equipped me with the skills to lead with a fresh perspective and help guide our club into the future.
My journey with Porsche began with a childhood fascination that has never faded. I’ll never forget the thrill of seeing my first Guards Red 911 Turbo Whale Tail, whoa! That fascination led me to my first Porsche a White 95B.1 Macan S with a Red interior, a car that led to my Guards Red 992.1 9112S, and today, Jia's White Cayenne and my Carmine Red Cayenne Coupe. To us, these cars are more than just vehicles; they are an integral part of our family and a source of shared passion. My own experience with a variety of Porsche models has reinforced my belief that every Porsche and every owner is a valued part of our club community.
Having recently stepped into the role of Social Activities Chair, I've had the unique opportunity to listen and learn from many of you. I am already enjoying planning major annual events like the Concours d'Elegance and the Holiday Gala. As your Board Director, my goal is to honor our club’s traditions while bringing new energy and a clear focus on the areas that matter most to our members, including championing inclusivity, enhancing accessibility, and enriching the membership experience.
My passion for Porsche runs deep, and I believe my commitment to this community is what makes me the right choice for this role. I am dedicated to serving our members and would be honored to earn your vote and the opportunity to help build an even more vibrant and welcoming community for all Porsche enthusiasts.
2026 AZPCA BOD Election Candidates Director at Large
Kevin Skochil
Thank you for considering me for the position of Director At Large for the upcoming board season. I’m somewhat new to PCA, having joined in 2023 after purchasing my first Porsche. But my love of cars dates back to my early years collecting buckets of Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars.
My Porsche Background
Today, I own a 2022 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet in aventurine green, and a cobalt blue metallic 2006 Porsche Cayman S that has the coolest six-CD disk changer around.
You may have met me and my wife at the 2024 Annual Holiday Party at Las Sendas. We also took part in the Tri-Region Extravaganza in January 2024, including the mystery Sonoran Desert tour. I started my track career with a “Hooked on” Driving event years ago, tracked at AMP multiple times and participated in our autocross events as well. I’ve driven several HPDE events at Podium Club and am already registered for the Tucson INDE event and the autocross at Phoenix Raceway. All that said, a highlight of 2025 was my wife sitting navigator at the Prescott Valley Autocross event hosted by the PCA Mountain region – an experience she actually looks forward to repeating!
Why you should vote for me:
- I’m organized and love details, lists, budgets, and plans (spreadsheets and all)
- This would be my only volunteer effort for the year, meaning it gets my full attention
- Previously a firefighter and volunteer with Pinal Search & Rescue, I’m good in a crisis
- My novelist wife wants me out of the house more so she can write in peace
- I can talk to anyone and make them feel at home – car enthusiast or not
- I used AI to turn my cars into Transformer cartoons, and I can teach you
- I want to help more people discover our awesome community
My day job(s): Building structures that last I’m the Operations Director for Sunland Welding, a structural steel fabrication and installation business in Gilbert, AZ. Yearly, we move approximately 350,000 lbs. of steel like a finely choreographed dance. My role oversees project management, staffing, efficiency, safety, and innovation.
I’m also CEO of OILCO Liquid Handling Systems, based in Middletown, NJ. Our family pioneered the design and manufacture of the most extensive line of heavy-duty swivel joints available world-wide. Our products can be found in petroleum, waste water, steel mill, and coastal terminal systems around the world.
(Did I mention my wife wants me out of the house more?)
Thank you for considering me for the Director at Large spot!
2026 AZPCA BOD Election Candidates
Director at Large
Ryan Tamietti
As a Phoenix native and longtime car enthusiast, I’ve been a proud member of the Arizona Region PCA since 2017. My love for Porsche began at a young age, thanks to the iconic styling of the 911, and sparked what would become a lifelong appreciation for German engineering. During my high school and college years, I spent countless hours wrenching on BMWs and diving into the import tuning scene, which was hugely popular at the time and provided a low barrier to entry for young enthusiasts. Those experiences taught me the value of hands-on learning and community, but Porsche has always been my original passion.
In 2017, with some not-so-subtle encouragement from fellow AZ PCA members, I purchased my 2014 981S from another club member. Finally becoming a Porsche owner was a milestone I’d thought about for years but I wasn’t prepared for how quickly “just one” turned into “what if I made room for another?” Almost immediately after the purchase, I joined the PCA and realized how true the saying is: “Come for the cars, stay for the people.” What started as a personal goal quickly expanded into involvement with a welcoming community of people who share similar values and a passion for great cars.
While I’ve been involved with other car clubs over the years, I feel a strong pull to contribute more meaningfully to the Arizona PCA. I’m excited about the opportunity to serve as Director at Large and help strengthen the connections that make our region so special. I believe in building engaging experiences that are welcoming and accessible to all members whether they’re longtime enthusiasts or just discovering the joy of the Porsche marque.

Club Secretary
I am currently the Club Secretary and have been in this role for the past 2 years During that time, I have become very involved in our Club administration, activities and have helped foster the culture of the club.
By day I am an Aerospace Engineer and have been in the aerospace industry for over 35 years. I have had the opportunity to work on some fascinating projects over the years from Blue Origin’s maiden New Glenn Rocket launch to a successful Mars Rover landing to a very tricky Asteroid sampling mission and future Moon missions.
My attention to detail has always served me well in my career and I believe it is a fundamental skill to continue to fulfill the role of Secretary for the club. I have been happily married for over 30 years to my beautiful wife Alison who is a big part of AZPCA too.
We purchased our 1995 Porsche 993 Cabriolet in May of 2021 and quickly joined AZPCA. During this time, we have thoroughly enjoyed participating in AZPCA events, volunteering, running Going Places, the Club Newsletter and we have met many wonderful members, many of whom have become close friends.
I believe that continuing in the position of Club Secretary would benefit both the club with continuity and would allow me to continue to develop even greater connectivity with our board and membership. I look forward to continuing to serve the club in the near future.

Club Treasurer
Marty Ercoline
I am the current Treasurer and I am asking our members to vote me back into this position so I can complete my role as AZPCA Treasurer. My wife Abby and I have been AZPCA members since 2014 and we are very active with the AZPCA organization. I bring years of experience serving large social clubs in various operational support positions. In my professional life, I manage my Wealth Management practice and I handle all types of monetary events daily.
When I stepped up to fill in for the prior Treasurer having left the Phoenix area, I got to work looking deep into how we were conducting our financials. I noticed that we were not operating by the PCA National operational guidelines and that we did not have electronic payment capabilities established for paying our vendors quickly and efficiently. I also realized our QuickBooks had been setup in a very cumbersome manner, making it difficult to obtain much needed balances and financial reports when needed. I also realized our club banking account information had not been updated for almost 10 years. First, I cleared up our Bank account profile and officer information. Secondly, I established electronic bill payment and Zelle services for our vendors and members. Third, I put in many hours to get our QuickBooks running much more efficiently and matched our club financial processes to the PCA Operations manual. We are now in compliance with National’s recommendations, we now have the ability to pay our invoices electronically within minutes, our bank accounts are current, and our QuickBooks is easier to manage with our key financial reports being more accurate. I’m planning to setup financial reports for each Director so they can manage their event cash flows with more accurate information.
I’ve been married to my wonderful wife Abby for 36+ years and we are avid Porsche owners.
I love to drive my 911’s and Abby loves to drive her Macan. We have two grown children who live and work in the Phoenix valley and are working hard to become Porsche owners. Abby and I like rescuing dogs and support multiple no-kill pet shelters.

Club Treasurer
Kelly Huard
I am writing to express my interest in the open Treasurer position on the board of the Arizona Chapter (AZPCA) of the Porsche Club of America.
With over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, I am a seasoned executive with deep expertise in commercial real estate, private equity, and operational finance.
I have held senior finance roles, including Controller and CFO, across diverse industries such as commercial real estate, HVAC, hospitality, and automotive collision repair
I recently launched a diversified enterprise with James Huard and Danny Page, integrating automotive services and financial consulting. Established Aces Auto Care (domestic/Asian repair) and Aces Elite Auto Care (exotic vehicles), designed to capture diverse market segments in the automotive sector.
I founded Luxe Accounting Solutions, a boutique firm providing high-touch bookkeeping and CFO advisory services to small and mid-sized businesses. Responsible for strategic direction, capital structuring, brand development, and building scalable infrastructure for long-term growth.
I have also served as CFO of Sentinel Development for over seven years, where I worked closely with private equity firm, Westport Capital Partners, to reposition distressed commercial real estate assets.
I am also a lifelong Porsche enthusiast. My husband and I are avid collectors and currently own nine Porsches, including two highly cherished air-cooled models. This passion has deepened my appreciation for the Porsche community, its heritage, and the camaraderie it fosters.
Serving on the board would be both an honor and a dream come true. I believe my blend of financial acumen, leadership experience, and genuine enthusiasm for Porsche ownership uniquely position me to make a meaningful contribution to the Club. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I would be delighted to discuss how I can support the Club’s mission and serve its members in the role of Treasurer.

Club Treasurer
Steve Weddell
I am running for Treasurer of the club. I have been an active member since joining AZPCA in 2021 and have attended a number of HPDE, social events, and driving tours. My passion for the Porsche brand began as a teenager when a neighbor took me for a ride in his new 944. I currently have a 718 Cayman GT4 (manual) which I enjoy driving around town and on driving tours. My track car is a modified 718 Cayman GT4 (PDK) and you will often find me down at Podium Club.
I worked at Leslie’s Pool Supplies in Phoenix (2015 to 2023) where I served in various roles including Chief Financial Officer, Secretary, Treasurer, and member of the Board of Directors. During my tenure, I had responsibility for a number of areas including finance, accounting, internal audit, procurement, supply chain, manufacturing, information technology, human resources, and investor relations. I currently serve on the Finance Committee at Paradise Valley Country Club and have also served on the board of the Leslie’s Charitable Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central & Northern Arizona.
During my time with AZPCA, I have formed many new relationships, and it is evident that the members share a strong enthusiasm for the brand and the club. My commitment to you will be to actively listen to members, maintain fiscal responsibility and accountability, and collaborate with the board to continually improve the member experience. It would be a great privilege to serve you as Treasurer of the club and I appreciate your consideration

What started as a desire to get out into some fresh and cooler Arizona desert evening air turned into an unscheduled photo shoot with what is the most aBordable Porsche in today’s world. Let us rewind a few months I had been yearning for a new Porsche experience and made the hard decision to sell my 2018 718 (Base) Cayman and Zenith Blue 1999 996. My plan was to take this opportunity to trade up to a new(er) 911 I had my eyes set on a 991.2 Carrera S. Somewhere between selling oB the Cayman and 911 I decided to move away from that 911 idea and opted for a new car as my daily. My thoughts, why purchase a car that is now 6+ years old when I can drive new. So, I decided upon and purchased a 2025 Cadillac CTV-5 in Cyber Yellow Metallic.
For the first time in many years, I was sans Porsche. And to be completely honest, I felt empty Even though my CT5-V is a beauty in its own right, it was not calling for me to take it onto the streets for an after- oBice cruise. There is something so cathartic about driving a Porsche and I am not sure you can get that same feeling driving anything else A couple of months went by, and I wanted to get my Porsche fix once again but needed to do it on a budget. Like many of us I turned to YouTube and watched flurries of videos on the early Porsche Boxster’s. I was especially interested in the facelifted 986.2. The base version’s 2.7-liter

engine, manual transmission, glass window and glove box really drew me in, and I started my hunt for just the perfect example
My search started online (where else?) After countless days looking for just the right one, I stumbled upon a local and very well-respected dealership in Scottsdale, AZ advertising a 2003 model in classic Arctic Silver Metallic. It checked all my boxes, which also included loads of maintenance records and higher mileage; 80,000 miles on the odometer. Excellent! The condition of this car was perfect The thing with older Porsches, the years just do not take their toll on them like so many other vehicles still on the road, and this one was no exception I immediately scheduled a visit and test- drive. Oh boy, the childlike grin was back on my face. The test drive took us through the winding foothill mountains of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve and all I can say after that driving experience, I was SOLD Shifting through the 5-speed manual transmission was surreal. The car was light and felt much nimbler than either my 718 or 996. At that time, I no longer cared it was only pushing out 225hp. With the top down, the sound coming from this now twenty-twoyear- old engine roared and all I could think about was how much fun this thing was to drive I felt like a kid on the old go - cart track in Omaha, Nebraska where I grew up. Grinning from ear-to - ear and putting her through the paces. And the salesperson was having just as much fun as me.
After that exhilarating test- drive, I was ready to open my check book. How much did this short burst of driving perfection set me back? A mere $13,000. I challenge anyone to find more bang-for-thebuck than an early base Boxster A little over a month has passed since it has been in my garage and my joy in driving is unrivaled. It calls to me every day whether it be a spirited drive-up Hwy 88 or an

evening jaunt through town This brings me back to the unscheduled photo shoot and the pictures accompanying my (up to now) 627-words.
While enjoying the cool (95 degree) early evening I came upon this school that I thought would make a good backdrop for some quick pictures showing oB my “new” silver beauty I parked alone in this parking lot and starting shooting with my phone. Originally, shot in color, the shots really opened up when I started dragging them into the realm of black and white The shadows of the school lights really showed oB the Boxster’s curves in a way I had not seen before. I immediately made the comparison between this and the 55’ Spyder. Both in the iconic classic silver, I never knew just how similar they were. It reminds me of why Porche’s, no matter the era, or model, are classic, timeless driving machines that so eBortlessly span time and space. And that no matter how much money is spent on one, the driving experience is the same. Perfection in every sense of the word.

October’s Off-Road Adventure - Crown King
Off-Road Driving Tour & Lunch to Crown King
Thursday, October 9, 2025
The weather will be Porsche perfect for driving your Porsche SUV Four-Wheel Drive Vehicle on an off-road Tour up to Crown King high in the Bradshaw Mountains for a delicious lunch at the famous Crown King Saloon. Crown King was a former gold mining town dating back to 1875 and has a current population of 133.
The saloon has an interesting history and is one of the buildings still standing and in use in Crown King. The Crown King Saloon has maintained its place as the center of activity in town. The Saloon was originally constructed and operated in the nearby mining town of Oro Belle (now also a ghost town). In 1910, it was disassembled and brought to Crown King piece by piece after the mine at Oro Belle had played out. The building was home to a brothel and bar in both towns and now serves the public as a hotel, cafe, and bar.
The Tour is a 53 mile and a two-hour drive from the starting point in North Phoenix over an easy and safe all-weather off-road dirt trail. The Tour will traverse through the rugged beauty of the Bradshaw Mountains and route through the small communities of Bumble Bee and Cleater. Cleater is the home port for the Cleator Yacht Club. Yes, there is a yacht docked outside adjacent to the Bar & General Store.
The lunch and tour details are being finalized and will be published in the next issue of Going Places and posted on the Region’s Website with a MSR registration link. Please save the date and plan on joining other Region members enjoying their Porsche SUVs, or other NonPorsche SUV Four-Wheel Drive vehicles, for the day on the trail.

Arizona Region Tech Session
ARIZONA REGION TECH SESSION
Saturday, October 25, 2025 8am – 10am
A Porsche Tech Session will be hosted by Arizona Region Sponsor/Member Jonathan Betancourt of Trackside Motorsports. Jonathan will cover the routine Porsche maintenance and service of the various mechanical items for the members to have a better understanding of why maintenance and service is critical for reliability, longevity and safe operation at the limit when participating in spirited driving, HPDE and Autocross events. This is geared towards members who prefer to perform their own maintenance and service on their own Porsche car.
About Jonathan: Trackside Motorsports was founded in 2020 by Jonathan. His passion for cars started out in high school with muscle cars. However, his true love of performance driving came when he acquired his first Porsche, a 2007 911 Carrera S and went to an HPDE event. He was instantly hooked! Since then, Jonathan has spent every spare moment figuring out what makes a car fast and fun on a racetrack. Jonathan became a certified Porsche Club of America Instructor in 2015 to further hone his driving skills and teach other people performance driving techniques.
You must register to attend and the maximum capacity will be limited to 25 Members There is no cost to register Refreshments will be provided for the members

IMPORTANT AZPCA Information
AZPCA Region Event Cancelation Policies & Event Organizer Responsibilities
Event Cancellation Policy
Most of our events have attendance limits, and they fill up quickly. Also, we often have waiting lists for those wishing to attend but do not have a secured attendance spot. Increasingly, attendees sign up and simply do not show up for the event without canceling in advance. This behavior impacts the event registrar/organizer, the event facility, and those on the waiting list wanting to attend but cannot. This behavior demonstrates a lack of common courtesy, requiring it to be addressed proactively. On the first occurrence a warning will be issued, and on the second occurrence privileges to attend future events may be impacted. Also, any registration fees for paid events will be forfeited without recourse since the club is charged regardless. The cancelation policy requires cancelation of your registration on MSR for paid or unpaid events a minimum of 7 days prior to the event date, unless there are serious and extenuating emergency circumstances as assessed by the event registrar/organizer. Most importantly, please be courteous to your fellow members so that everyone has an opportunity to enjoy events.
Event Organizer Responsibilities
Event organizers are required to send out a reminder approximately 9 days in advance of any event reminding registrants of the event and summarizing their responsibilities by including the following language:
Thank you for your RSVP. Please note that whether or not there is a registration fee for this event, the restaurant is expecting a certain number of attendees we provide to them in advance and incur cost accordingly If you need to cancel please do so at least one week prior to the event date (being a no-show without notice is rude to other members who wish to attend, the restaurant and to the event organizer). Additionally, if there is a fee or prepayment associated with the event, it will be forfeited if cancelled less than 7 days before the event. Thank you!”
Additionally, event organizers are requested to send out a reminder two or three days prior to the event simply as a courtesy to remind those attending.
IMPORTANT AZPCA Information
Reimbursement & Stipend Policy for AZPCA HPDE Events:
1. Reimbursement is provided to 5 key workers / volunteers for actual round-trip fuel cost (upon providing receipts), and if applicable, $120/night stipend for lodging/ incidentals. If it is not an overnight event and/or a requirement, then spend is reduced to $40. Key workers are volunteers that are attending the event solely to work the event but not participate in the event. Examples could be: Grid worker(s), Safety inspector(s), Timing and Scoring Chair, Safety Chair, Event Chair, CDI. Excludes: Corner workers/flaggers.
2. A corner worker/flagger is offered a $100 stipend or a $175 MSR credit for a future HPDE event, by choice of the flagger.
3. Other non-critical volunteer positions are provided a lunch (lunch will either paid for individually or provided as part of event to all participants).
4. The Event Organizer is reimbursed for fuel costs related to event planning/execution and round-trip fuel cost (upon providing receipts and log).
5. Continue to offer discounted registration fees for approved AZPCA Instructors.
Policy adopted by majority vote of the Board of Directors at the June 2023 BOD meeting

November’s Driving Tour - Fall Colors/Flagstaff
Interesting drives featuring fall colors along historic Route 66, socializing and dining with your PCA friends at the beautiful Little America Hotel, and stargazing in the dark skies over Flagstaff.
Our club’s fourth annual overnighter to Flagstaff will follow a route through Prescott Valley to Ashfork, then east on historic Route 66 to Williams, where we will take in the small town historic charm Williams has to offer: Americana-style shops, restaurants, and other venues dating back to the early 1900s, many celebrating the town’s important role as a stop on Historic Route 66.
From Williams, our route will again follow portions of Route 66 on our way to Flagstaff. Expect to experience beautiful fall colors along the way to the Little America Hotel in East Flag.
The Little America Hotel is an experience in itself one of the special features of this event. “Set within 500 acres of Ponderosa Pine forest, Little America Flagstaff is a haven from the mundane. Flagstaff’s only AAA approved Four Diamond hotel combines inviting hospitality with the natural beauty of Northern Arizona and instills a passion to return to this distinctive resort.” We will arrive in the afternoon, and an impromptu happy hour is sure to happen!
November’s Driving Tour - Fall Colors/Flagstaff
The highlight of Day Two is a visit to the world-famous Lowell Observatory in the evening. But we have a day full of activities planned before then: a group breakfast at the Silver Pine Restaurant in the hotel, followed by a drive along several stretches of historic Route 66. The special destination for this drive is Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, a fascinating example of the amazing forces that formed the geology around Flagstaff
Our visit at the observatory will include a historical talk prior to a very interesting tour/presentation just for our group. The Deluxe Stargazing Package is a 3-hour private experience utilizing the 24-inch Dyer Telescope
On Friday, you will be on your own to explore other sites in and around Flagstaff before returning home, or you can plan to join some of us on a drive back to the Valley via Lake Mary Road and Mormon Lake.
When you register for this 3-day event on MotorsportReg, you will pre-pay for the Stargazing tour/presentation at the Lowell Observatory. You will pay your own check when we meet for breakfast on Thursday at the Little America.
You will make your own room reservation at the Little America Hotel. Our special rate is only $109/night + tax for a Grand View King room, the hotel’s nicest room category.

STORY BY DANIELLE BADLER
It was F. Scott Fitzgerald who famously said, “The rich are different from you and me.” And it was Ernest Hemingway who allegedly responded with, “Yes, Scott, they have more money.”
I love that. The implication, to Hemingway, is that the rich are different because they can afford to be different, to indulge in whatever floats their boat or, in our case, drives them down the road. While the rest of us stand by the wayside and gape, or wax poetic about what we’d do if our lottery ticket hit the jackpot, or our business IPO led to a valuation with too many zeros to count.
Take the collector. The big-money spender who, after buying the yacht, the palatial abode and the Gulfstream jet, amasses a fleet of vehicles so big that one person could never possibly use them all, in many lifetimes.
I recently came across an on-line story in The Drive, about a car collection that was being liquidated in a month or two. What got me was the headline, which read, “Huge Auto Museum Is Shutting Down and Selling Off 295 Pristine Collector Cars.” It was the Klairmont Kollections Automotive Museum in Chicago.
Apparently, Larry Klairmont had amassed a small real estate empire (he passed in 2021) and applied his, shall we say, ample resources to what his widow says is “the largest collection on display anywhere in the Midwest.”
That piqued my interest … just what do you buy if you can afford 295 vehicles? And my answer was a click away. Because The Drive listed each of them.
All I can say is that, at the end of the road, Fitzgerald must be gasping, and Hemingway must be laughing hysterically. I mean, 13 Vespa scooters. A DeLorean and a Bricklin. Two Corvairs. A VW Thing, a Beetle and a Karmann Ghia convertible. Two Messerschmitt cars, one a convertible. Three Goggomobils. Thirteen Jeeps in various configurations . Fourteen Rolls Royces, from the ‘20s to the ‘80s. A Zimmer Golden Spirt. Three 1941 Cadillacs. A 1948 Tucker replica
Sorry, no Porsches. No Ferraris. Two BMWs, an Isetta from the ‘50s and a 1936 319 cabriolet. One Fiat, a 500 sport sedan from 1959.
Performance? You want performance? A Lamborghini Espada, a Citroen SM, a 1969 Camaro pace car, two Pontiac GTOs, a Dodge Super Bee … it goes on and on … and on. As the Church Lady might say, isn’t this a bit … eccentric?
My brother-in-law collects and sells rare books. A lot of first editions, a lot of sci fi. All lovingly hand-wrapped in plastic. I once asked my sister, what is the attraction in collecting books? Aren’t they meant to be read? I mean, they’re books, aren’t they? Isn’t that what they’re for?
And she answered by saying, “you’re not a collector. You’ll never get it.”
Which I guess is true. I don’t get collecting books that you don’t read, and I don’t get the point of assembling one of the most eclectic and apparently self -indulgent car collections I’ve ever come across. Just like I don’t get collecting sports memorabilia off the sweat of athletes.
And that leads me to bring up one of my very own quotes. “The rich are weird. Because they can afford to be weird.” Please cite me, if you ever use it.
How else do you explain the mania?
Take Paul Allen, who co-founded Microsoft. He virtually cornered the market in collections. A billion-dollar art collection. His collection of first-gen tech and Titanic memorabilia, which brought in $10 million at his death. He also cofounded the Allen Science Fiction Museum and the Museum of Pop Culture. And he died at 65 in 2018.
Which reminds me of the maxim that you can’t take it with you. To which I would add a big “but” that, if you’ve got the resources, you sure can enjoy the ride … in whatever form you desire, I guess
Is this being obsessive? Who’s asking?

Kimberly’s Korner - Facts,
Porsche Stock Slides in 2025…
Is It Still a Good
Investment?
Porsche’s global sales in the first half of 2025 fell 6.1%, to 146,391 vehicles. The drop was mainly due to steep declines in Germany and China. In Europe, this year’s results looked weaker because 2024 results included catching-up from prior shortages. In China, luxury demand remained soft. These headwinds outweighed new delivery records in North America and in Emerging Markets, leading to the overall drop.
As a result, Porsche AG’s stock price (DRPRY) fell 26%, from a first-half high of $6.57 on January 27, 2025 to $4.88 on June 30, 2025. The DRPRY is the Porsche AG DPR, or American Depositary Shares. These ADRs allow stocks traded on foreign exchanges to be bought in the U.S. by Americans through their regular brokers.
Why Porsche Stock Prices, and Shipments, Fell
Porsche AG cut its 2025 financial forecast, lowering projected sales revenue to €37–38 billion (down from €39–40 billion) and trimming its forecasted return on sales to just 6.5–8.5%, from an earlier 10–12% (Source: Porsche Newsroom.)
In the first half, its operating return fell dramatically, from 15.7% in 2024 to just 5.5%, highlighting acute margin pressure. (Source: Porsche Newsroom.)
High costs are driven by new model development, including both combustion and hybrid lines. Porsche is aligning its EV strategy, based on lower-than-expected performance. In addition, Porsche has so far absorbed the costs of U.S. tariffs. It has also ramped up battery production. (Source. Porsche Newsroom.)
Kimberly’s Korner - Facts, Figures and Fallacies
Is Porsche Stock Still a Good Investment?
Most analysts recommend a “Hold” position. The average target price is only modestly higher than its current trading level, indicating low upside expectations. (Source: MarketScreener)
Pros:
• Porsche continues to be a strong brand based on its high quality standards.
• There is resilient demand in North America and emerging markets, especially for the Macan.
Cons:
• Profitability is under pressure, thanks to shrinking margins, high one-off charges, and a sluggish EV ramp-up.
• Luxury demand is weaker than expected in China and Europe.
• Porsche expects U.S. tariffs of 15%.
Overall, analysts are calling Porsche a mixed bag right now. It has long-term potential but also real short- and mid-term execution risks. If you're patient, you might benefit from its strategic repositioning; otherwise, you may want to wait until financials stabilize.

McIlvain Talks Tech with Scott M - Save a Buck
Just today I had a customer complain about how expensive maintenance was on their 991.2. “ I can just take my car to jiffy lube and save money” he said while walking out the door. I quickly explain why that might not be the best idea and he is risking his car’s health. I thought this would make a good article explaining why a Porsche specialist is important.
Most air-cooled owners know how much oil the cars take and the process of checking the oil level. If you think it’s a good idea taking an air-cooled car to anyone who doesn’t know the cars is asking for big issues. Starting in 1997 with the introduction of the Boxster Porsche moved to water cooled sports cars and each model is harder to work on than the previous model.
In regard to oil services there is a lot to check and a lot that can go wrong. One of the most important item in an oil service is making sure that you are using the correct oil for your model and YEAR. Some Porsche will take one type of oil for one year and the next a different spec for that oil. On some of the newer cars the only way to confirm what oil to use is a little sticker that has the correct oil weight. It is vital that the correct oil is used or it can cause all sorts of issues and could wear out your engine.
Some Porsche will have up to 4 different oil drain plugs, So if you don’t get all the oil out of the car it is super easy to over fill the oil. I have seen this numerous times on 996/997 turbo. Shops will drain 2-3 quarts of oil for the engine sump and not drain the large oil tank. Then they add whatever the internet says right amount of oil to the car and start it up. It instantly will smoke like crazy and foul out the spark plugs. I have personally seen Porsche overfilled by 7+ quarts of oil, it causes lots of problems, foul spark plugs being the most common I have even seen an engine hydro lock due to being overfilled
Another potential component that gets over looked on oil service is the oil filter. All modern Porsche other than GT’s use a cartridge type oil filter. I have seen many wrong oil filter installed in Porsches, the filter just wedged into the oil filter housing to get it to fit. This causes oil to leak around the filter so basically the filter is doing nothing to keep the oil clean. I have seen aftermarket cheap filters collapse due to poor constructor and cheap materials. The correct high quality oil filter is a must.
McIlvain Talks Tech with Scott M - Save a Buck
Starting with the 997.1 and 987.1 Porsche has used oil change reminders on the dash when the oil is due. The resetting of the service light requires use of a special computer that can talk to Porsche’s computers. Now with 2023 and newer Porsches you have to buy a VERY expensive computer just to reset the light. It is no secret that Porsche does not want you to have your car serviced anywhere else, so they make it very challenging working on the new stuff. There will be a day soon that the new hybrids will only be able to be serviced at the dealer.
The last important step in Porsche oil service is setting the oil level. Starting with the 996/986 Porsche used an oil level display on the dash along with a inaccurate manual dip stick. With the 997/987 they got rid of the manual dip stick and relied only on the oil level display on the dash. Each car has different conditions that need to be met to show the oil level on the dash. For example, first gen Macan’s need to be driven 8 miles or more before the Macan will show the oil level. If you over fill or under fill the oil level even by a few milliliters the car will turn on a warning on the dash that can’t be cleared until the oil level is corrected.
As you can see a lot goes into a Porsche oil service with a lot of chances to make expensive mistakes. If your “quick change” oil service station is familiar with all the ins and outs of a Porsche oil change by all means go ahead. If not, its going to cost you a lot more in the long run.

The Stuttgart Market Letter
Written by David K. Whitlock
July kept pace with June’s strong performance, matching its 74% sell-through rate while coming in just shy of dollar volume at $38,101,964 from 635 Porsches offered. That is a healthy increase from July 2024’s 66% and $30.5 million, showing the market’s resilience even as certain segments cooled. This was a month where rare and limited editions took center stage, with cars we have not seen in some time crossing the block including a Black GT3 RS 4.0, multiple 911 S/Ts and Sport Classics, and a unique one-of-one 993. While these headliners drew plenty of attention, the seven-figure market told a different story as several high-profile million-dollar contenders failed to find new homes.
It only took a little over a month for another GT3 RS 4.0 to clear the million-dollar mark, and this one came with an even rarer twist. Finished in Black, a color not seen at auction for this model since a 1,000mile example sold for $885,000 back in August 2022, this 842-mile 2011 car looked every bit the collector-grade example it was. Expectations were high after a low-mileage White RS 4.0 crossed $1 million earlier in May, and the market responded accordingly. It landed squarely within its $1 to $1.3 million estimate, selling at $1,260,000. With this sale, RS 4.0s are now firmly established as milliondollar modern 911s.
We ended June with the sale of a 911 S/T at a new auction record of $805,992, and July wasted no time in bringing more to market. Three more examples crossed the block, but not all met seller expectations. The first two failed to sell at final bids of $700,000 and $726,000, likely held back by hopes of replicating June’s record result. The third proved to be the charm, a 130-mile Shore Blue Metallic example that hammered sold at $702,000.
It was not just S/Ts making headlines. Two 992 Sport Classics also found new homes. A standard-spec, 258-mile car sold for $473,000, while the other, a Paint-to-Sample Dolphin Gray over Black and Pepita Heritage Design example, stole the spotlight. With just 2,800 miles, body-color Sport Classic wheels, a Burmester sound system, and an MSRP of $311,000, it returned to the block after previously selling for $483,500 at Broad Arrow’s Amelia Island sale in March. This time, it surged past that mark to $550,000, making it the third-highest Sport Classic auction result to date.
If there were an award for the rarest Porsche to hit the market in 2025, this 1996 911 Carrera Coupe 6speed would be a front-runner. Built by Porsche Exclusive as a pre-production Carrera S press vehicle, it featured a collection of one-off touches rarely, if ever, seen together. These included Turbo-style front and rear spoilers on a narrow-bodied car, Turbo S front and side intakes, and Porsche’s X51 power kit. It sold for $275,000, a price that felt entirely justified for something this unique, and in doing so set a new all-time auction record for a 993 Carrera Coupe.
The 356 market was active in July, with 25 cars crossing the block for a total dollar volume of $1,837,212, though the sell-through rate was a modest 60%. One standout was a 1957 356A Speedster that broke through a ceiling we have seen hold firm this year. Until now, only one 356A Speedster had crossed the $300,000 mark in 2025 despite nearly a dozen examples coming to auction. Finished in Black over Tan, this car sold for $325,000, besting its $300,000 high estimate. While it did feature a replacement engine, the unit had been rebuilt during a 2023 refurbishment, with the seller providing detailed photos of the work. In this case, great condition and thorough documentation carried the day.
The Stuttgart Market Letter
While July offered some truly special sales, the upper end of the market also had its share of notable nosales. Leading the list was a 2015 918 Spyder finished in Paint-to-Sample Grey Black over a striking Leather-to-Sample White interior. Showing 5,000 miles, it carried $7,000 in Custom Tailoring but lacked the desirable Weissach Package that often commands a premium. The last non-Weissach 918 to sell was an 887-mile example that brought $2,315,000 all-in at Amelia Island this past March. This one came close, but ultimately fell short, failing to sell at a final bid of $2,305,918. Also failing to find a home was a 911 Speedster by Gunther Werks, which stalled at $959,911 despite a recent run of million-dollar-plus results for other Gunther Werks builds.
With sales holding strong over the last few months, the stage is set for an exciting Monterey Car Week. The combination of rare, high-quality consignments and a market that continues to show resilience suggests we could see some standout results when the gavel falls in August.

Our instructors will navigate you along the road circuit, teach you the fundamentals of driving at track speeds, but also keep you in a comfort zone so you have a good time. There are flaggers on track, just like at a real racing event. The club also arranges an ambulance and tow truck on site for emergencies.
For the HPDE events, four groups of approximately 10-25 drivers are formed based on experience level- Beginner, Intermediate, Experienced, Advanced. Grouping allows everyone attending to have a good time. Beginners don’t have to stress about having little/no experience- chances are, there are several other drivers in the same group just starting out.
Based on instructor evaluation, you are advanced to the next group up when appropriate. Sometimes this is after one day, or sometimes it takes a several events. Higher run groups typically means more speed but with a better, practiced skill set to control the speed safely. This keeps track days exciting for you as you advance your skill set.
While this is definitely NOT racing, there is a natural tendency to evaluate yourself to other drivers in your group, but HPDE is not structured to award “fast” times. To satisfy the competitive nature in you, we offer an optional “Time Trials” sessions where those specific TT sessions are timed and you compete against others in your class. Lap times are broadcast live so you can see in real time how you stack up against your competitors. Time trials are structured so that you get three clean laps, meaning, you will be by yourself on track without dealing with other cars in your way.
How is a typical HPDE day structured?
A track day starts around 6:30 -7:00 am. You’ll check-in and get your car safety inspected on-site first. A drivers meeting kicks off around 7:45 am, with the first car on track around 8:30 am. A forty minute lunch break splits the day and the event is usually over around 4:00 pm. You can expect five 20-minute sessions (100 mins total) of track time each day, although some events are structured with four 25-minute sessions. Time trial sessions are optional to add-in during your registration, and that consists of two additional timed sessions (one morning, one afternoon) consisting of three hot laps.
The beginner group will also have classroom discussion after their sessions to discuss car-control and vehicle dynamics and what they experienced.
The club either provides lunch or there is an option to purchase one on site. Since there is down time in-between your driving sessions and classroom discussion, there is lots of opportunity for comradery with other club members and opportunity to socialize and check out other cars attending.
What do you need to bring?
Your vehicle (preferably a Porsche) in good maintenance. (Some club members bring their other cars btw – we won’t shame you if you do that)
We provide a required checklist of things to inspect on your car before coming to a track day. If you aren’t mechanically inclined (or don’t care to do this yourself), you can take the checklist to a mechanic of your choice to do the inspection for you. We have a few places we can recommend if you don’t have a preferred mechanic. Main points of interest are good tires, brakes, brake fluid, no leaking fluids, no abnormal driving characteristics of the vehicle. We conduct a final brief safety inspection on your vehicle the morning of the event.
Helmets are typically available to rent when you register for the event– you can try the sport before you commit to purchasing a helmet.
There are additional items you can bring to make the day more comfortable or exciting – chairs, cameras, etc. There are lots of online video you can watch telling you to bring this or that. While that can be somewhat helpful down the road, keeping it basic is usually best. If you forget something, chances are there is someone there that will let you borrow/have theirs.
Lastly and most important: don’t forget to bring a desire to have a good time and willingness to learn!

Let’s Have Porsche Fun Getting Dirty
etting your Porsche Special Utility Vehicle (SUV) Four-Wheel Drive or your Porsche Carrera Dakar Rally Vehicle filthy dirty on an off-road trail is a lot of fun and will reward you with experience you cannot get on a twisty-asphalt paved road with your GT3RS or Boxster. Off-Road Driving Tours are like on-highway driving tours, but with more breath-taken views of nature The off-road tours provide a safe relaxed, slow paced, noncompetitive enjoyment for members to enjoy the great outdoors and backroads (trails), and to learn off-road driving techniques within the capabilities of their Porsche SUV vehicles with minimal impact on the environment
Porsche A.G. introduced the Cayenne and Macan model vehicles for Porsche car owners to enjoy various outdoor activities. The Porsche Club of America (PCA) developed a program for their members to enjoy those outdoor activities with other PCA members therefore developed program standards for the Regions to administer for their members with emphasis on safety and fun.
Those program standards are known as the PCA Minimum Off-Road Driving Tour Standards. Those standards defined/categorized five trail types with a rating designator using numbers, 1-5, and are based on the difficulty to traverse the trail from easy/safe to extremely difficult/risky dangerous
A Category 1 Trail is a graded well-maintained all-weather dirt packed gravel trail with grades less than ten degrees and wide for opposing traffic to safely pass without moving to right and stopping. No ruts or rocks to crawl over A Category 2 is a dirt gravel and sandy trail with infrequent maintenance with ruts and/or rocks up to 5 inches. Grades can exceed 10 degrees or 17 %. A Category 2 Trail is wide for two vehicles to pass safely along the entire route.
Category 1 rated Trail is an appropriate trail for Showroom Stock Porsche SUVs. Category 2 rated Trail would be more suited for Porsche SUVs with some minor vehicle/suspension modifications such as Springs and Shock packages.
A Category 3 Trail is characterized by a single vehicle two-wheel width track path trail with natural rutted washes or gulches with water crossings up to 6 inches in depth, and grades between 10°/17% to 15°/27% and some slickrocks up to 7 inches. Safe vehicle passing is only possible in selected spots.
Category 3 rated Trails may require an aggressive Spring and Shock Suspension Package, larger tires, under carriage armor with a moderate lift for additional ground clearance.
Trail Categories 4 & 5 are essentially extreme off-road trails with obstacles that have limited bypasses, rock gardens, deep water crossings, steep grades, and off-cambered narrow width trail paths. Categories 4 & 5 Trails are not approved nor will be Porsche ventured due to higher risk of personal safety and damage to the Porsche vehicle
At this time, unless there is a demand for the Region to host events on Category 3 rated Trails, the Region’s focus will be Category 1 Trails. Category 2 Trails may be a possibility in the future if members expressed an interest
Let’s Have Porsche Fun Getting Dirty
The standards also set the group size, based on the trail type category, the requirements for the Group Leader and Sweeper roles, Release and Waiver of Liability for Member Adults and Minors, Planning and Trail Driving Conduct, minimum trail & recovery equipment for the vehicle and personal provisions, Minimum (both Cellular & Two-way Radio) Communications Requirements between the Group Leader and Sweeper for all the participants.
Additionally, the PCA subscribes to the principles of the environmental organization T.R.E.A.D. (Travel Respect Educate Avoid Do) Lightly (https://treadlightly.org/learn/recreation-tips/4x4/). Their principles must be and will be followed to the maximum extent possible meaning; the Club will stay on established trails and will not blaze/start new trails.
In addition to the PCA minimum standards, there are non-PCA Trail Etiquettes that members should be aware of for the safety of everyone on the trail. It has become a standard practice that all off-road trail organizations utilize two-way radio communications to relay immediate changing trail conditions to the members of their group to avoid collisions or other hazardous conditions/situations
Although, the off-road trail groups communicate changing conditions to the member drivers in their respective groups, the individual trail groups are never on the same radio channel and have direct communications to effectively communicate between the groups. In this case, standard hand signals are usually given by the respective Group Leaders of the oncoming groups signaling the number of the following drivers and the Sweeper will signal the end/last vehicle.
The respective Group Leaders will communicate this information over their respective groups’ radio channels to the members in the groups. Where this information becomes very important are in the blind turns/curves/grades when the oncoming traffic cannot be seen, especially when the group(s) may be spread out.
For personal safety, members should never venture off-roading alone without another vehicle/driver in case there is an unforeseen situation. Also, members should develop a list of equipment and provisions to bring along with them in case their time on the trail is unexpectantly extended and the distance to services is far.
Some items to consider and be prepared with but not limited to; Water/Food, Medication, First Aid/Trail Trama Kit, Spare Tire/Jack, Wheel Blocks, Blankets, Tow Straps, Flashlight, Small Hand Tool Kit, Portable Air Compressor, Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) Off-Road Navigation Mapping System, Satellite SOS Position Tracking Device with Service, Portable Chairs (for picnic on the trail runs), Gloves, Trash Bags, Tire Gauge, Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Hand Sanitizer and/or Cleaner, and Automotive Electrical Fuse Kit
Some trails can be rough, or wash-boarded, which can reduce the fun factor for many members. Some steps can be taken to minimize the rough roads by a technique called “Airing Down” your tire pressures when you reach the dirt road. Airing down to the appropriate and safe tire pressures will be contingent on your wheel and tire types and what is recommended by the tire and wheel manufacturers for off-road travel based on your vehicle model. You may want to consult with your Porsche Service Advisor about what is recommended for your vehicle’s wheels & tires.
Most Off-Road Touring Organizations factor in “Airing Down” and “Airing Up” locations as part of their event planning.
Some off-road vehicles have a feature that will electronically disengage the front Swaybar while off-roading by just activating the feature button on the dash/center console. By using this feature, it will allow the suspension to articulate and soften the suspension ride stiffness as you traverse over the trail rough spots without sacrificing the vehicle stability. You should check and see if your vehicle has this feature. This feature may be available only on specific suspension packages
Let’s Have Porsche Fun Getting Dirty
It is essential that everyone conduct a self-inspection of their vehicle prior to getting dirty in accordance with the PCA Off-Road Driving Tour Self-Inspection Safety Checklist. Off-Road Tours on Categories 1 & 2 Trails do not require a complete checklist to be submitted, only events on a Category 3 Trail require a completed and signed Self-Inspection Safety Checklist to be submitted
The items required to be checked are routine safety checks that normally should be performed prior to operating your vehicle. The items to be inspected are but not limited to; all Tires including the spare for Condition such as wear, bulges, cracks, the age of the tire can be critical; Tire Pressures; Undercarriage for loose or hanging components; Under the Hood for brake, power steering, engine & transmission oil levels; Windshield Washer fluid; Coolant fluid leaks; Brake Rotor & Pad wear; Hoses & Belts; Vehicle Tow Hook Accessible; and Full Fuel Tank.
The emphasis on safe driving on the trail is paramount. Member drivers should know their abilities and limitations for operating their vehicle safely in all road conditions. Members should respect the posted signs and not consume alcohol or drugs while operating any motor vehicle.
The Speed Limit should never exceed what is safe for conditions. The speed into blind curves should never exceed 15 Miles Per Hour and most cases come to a halt before safely proceeding, and always expect the unexpectant, and never assume it is safe and no one is coming around the turn. On grades, the uphill traffic should be given the right-of-way preference and if necessary, pull to the right and stop in a safe spot to allow the traffic to pass.
Members should always keep a visual on the vehicle behind them and ensure there is a safe distance with the vehicle in front and not follow too close. If the vehicle behind is no longer visible slow down or come to a halt until you have sight of the vehicle. If there is a change of directions or route deviation, you should wait at that point until the following vehicle is in sight.
Members should drive with their headlamps on to increase visibility to other drivers. No passing will be allowed unless there is a need to overtake a stationary vehicle that is no longer in transit (motion) and/or has waved you by, and if the pass can only be completed safely.
Also, included in the PCA Minimum Off-Road Driving Tour Standards is the means of communication between the Group Leader and the Sweeper, and the Tour Participants. It is important that the Group Leader communicate changing conditions, and the sweeper keeps the group leader advised on the group’s status.
In most cases, the off-road driving tours are in areas of poor cellular telephone service/coverage. Additionally, as conditions can change rapidly and it is imperative that the information gets relayed quickly, the cellular telephone is not the speediest means of effectively communicating that information, only two-way radios are the best method of communication.
There are various types of two-way radio devices used on the Trail. The most common radio devices used are the Family Radio Service (FRS) portable radios that do not require a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Radio Station Authorization (License) and the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) radios that do require an individual FCC License. Both radios services utilize the same frequencies. The only difference is that the non-licensed FRS radio service radios operate at a lower transmitter power level than the GMRS radios The procedure to request a GMRS Radio License is merely submitting an application and a $35 fee to the FCC for a 10-year license.
Let’s Have Porsche Fun Getting Dirty
There is no requirement for the members to purchase a two-way radio in order to participate in the off-road tours. The two-way radio is just a tool for receiving safety information and if necessary to communicate with either the Group Leader or the sweeper or other members in the Tour
If the member elects to purchase a portable (walkie-talkie) radio, they should be aware that depending on the make/model of the radio purchased, the radio may or may not perform very well from inside of the vehicle and the performance may not be very effective of more than a quarter mile (1,000 to 1300 Feet in distance). The poor performing and less-than-quality radios are usually the inexpensive foreign brand radios that usually cost less than $100 for two-radio packs that are purchased at various consumer discount center retail outlets or from on-line warehouse merchandise operations.
The better performing consumer FRS or GMRS radios will normally cost more than $100 per radio and can be purchased directly on-line from the manufacturers or the respective dealers websites such as Cobra Electronics, Midland USA, Rugged Radios, or Motorola Solutions. These radios are already preprogrammed with the FRS/GMRS channels from the manufacturer.
If any member has questions regarding these radios, please feel free to contact Kenny Mitchell at kenmitchelldirector@az.pca.org
Off-Road Tours venture and explore miles and miles away from various services that may be needed if an unexpectant incident/event should occur. Also, the location of an unexpected incident/event may be difficult to identify since there are no recognizable landmarks nearby. Most off-road landmarks may not be known to emergency services. That is why it is important that drivers should have a GPS driven off-road navigational system that does not rely on a cellular telephone service signal.
It is imperative that there is a contingency plan for members to implement in case of an on-trail incident such as, but not limited to, mechanical breakdowns, collision or roll-over event, and medical emergencies. The Contingency plan should include a procedure to implement in case there is no cellular telephone service signal.
The Region has hosted a couple of off-road driving tours in the past couple of years, and they have been well attended. Also, the Region has allowed members to drive their non-Porsche SUV type four-wheel drive vehicles to attend and will continue this practice. The driver must be an active PCA member, and the vehicle must be a highway legal licensed a four-wheel drive SUV capable of being driven at all highways at legal speeds. In other words, no motorcycles or side by side All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) or Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) will be allowed.
Arizona Region is planning to host several Off-Road Driving Tours throughout the year Currently, there are plans in the works to have an off-road driving tour on one of the weekdays the first week in October. This driving tour is planned for driving to Crown King for lunch at the Crown King Saloon, by way of downtown Cleator, known for the home base of the Cleator Yacht Club. Information on this Tour will be listed on the Region’s website Event Calendar and in Going Places.

Mart shoppers are PCA members who know Porsches, know what they’re looking at, and are serious, ready, willing, and able buyers — not tire kickers. Because PCA members take care of their Porsches, vehicle quality in The Mart is better than other websites. And these are not anonymous buyers and sellers, they are registered PCA members.
The Porsche Club of America features news, videos, and information about the current market for used Porsches in the monthly Mart Fresh News email newsletter.
The Mart is one of the most visited parts of PCA.org, recording over 650,000 page views per month. In addition to your online Mart ad, you get a summary version of your ad in Porsche Panorama.
Mart Fresh News also highlights a variety of Porsche listings from PCA’s Mart Classifieds. When you find a vehicle in The Mart, you can be assured that it’s been cared for by a registered PCA member — not some anonymous seller.

PCA has 20 registries for those super enthusiastic about their Porsche model
The PCA Registry program was established in 1995 to encourage closer relationships within Porsche model owners in PCA. The program allows PCA members to network with others in their specific area of interest. Sharing of information fosters restoration and maintenance of members’ automobiles. A registry can potentially provide a new resource for historical displays at Parades and other PCA events, along with information for articles in Porsche Panorama. Don’t see a registry for your Porsche? We are also looking for individuals who are interested in starting a registry for a model that doesn’t have an existing registry.
Through the Ages now features the
New for 2025, the Porsche Club of America History Book contains an overview of the club’s history, followed by individual sections covering specific detailed items. Some sections were designed for use as standalone articles for region newsletters. Individual chapters and page numbers can be “clicked on” from the contents page. Major National Awards are also included.

What’s happening in the Porsche Market Place?
The 2009 Porsche 911 Turbo marked the final year of the coveted Mezger-based engine while benefiting from interior updates introduced with the 997.2 generation. These changes included a revised Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with a touchscreen interface, Bluetooth connectivity, and an external multimedia device connector, along with upgraded black trim finishes on various plastic facias. This combination of the robust Mezger engine and modernized interior features makes the 2009 model year particularly sought after among 997 Turbo enthusiasts.
This 2009 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet 6-Speed, finished in Carrara White over Cocoa Special Leather, shows 46,000 miles and is equipped with desirable factory options such as the Sport Chrono Package Turbo, Adaptive Sport Seats, and a thicker three-spoke leather steering wheel. Performance upgrades include an EVOMS 93 ECU tune, a Europipe Stage 1 exhaust, and a Numeric Racing adjustable short shifter. Unfortunately, the CARFAX report notes water damage from March 2011, reportedly caused by a soft-top failure.
We’ve seen this particular 997 Turbo Cabriolet a few times over the years, first selling for $69,000 in 2020, then going unsold at the same number in 2023 before finding a buyer shortly after in PCARMARKET’s Deal Tank for $80,000. With averages holding steady at around $90,000 over the past few years, it’s no surprise that our Spotlight car brought similar money to its last sale, hammering at a final bid of $82,000.
