I would like to welcome you all to the Chestnut Angus Annual Bull Sale. What an amazing time to be in the cattle business, as the cattle market has continued to remain strong! Thank you friends, current, past, and new customers for taking the time to look through this year’s offering. I certainly understand it gets said every year but I truly believe this is the best set of cattle we are offering for your consideration. This year our family was Very Blessed in August as we became grandparents, welcoming Wesly and Kayla’s daughter Jovi June Johnson to the family! She’s been our Biggest Blessing, and we are very fortunate to be able to spend a lot of time with her as a family! We are also excited to have Dawson’s girlfriend Maddy Miller a part of our operation as well! These wonderful additions are reminders of the importance of family, and by working together the sky is the limit on the goals we can achieve. Sherri and I are enjoying watching Wesly, Dawson and their families chase their goals and dreams, and choosing to work alongside us in the family operation, which has us excited for the great things to come in the future!

We were overwhelmed with the response to the cattle at this year’s National Western Stock Show, and we sincerely appreciate all of the positive feedback and enjoyed being closer to the ‘Hill’ cattle, and not having to walk so far to showcase our bulls on the ‘Hill’ for the Bull Show. It certainly was a highlight to be awarded the first ever NWSS Grand Champion PGS Bull! We continue to strive to always be progressive, and produce the best product for our customers.

I feel as though there are bulls and females in this offering for everybody. We focus on producing bulls that will add vigor and pounds to your calf crop, without sacrificing maternal traits including structural integrity and disposition. We also strive for added phenotype, so that you receive top dollar when selling your cattle, along with carcass merit to earn those premiums when sent to the rail. We are very proud that our Cow Herd has been able to generate the set of cattle we are offering this year. The set of females we are offering come from the heart of our program. I am confident they will go home and be nothing but profitable. We focus on several important genetic and physical characteristics in our cattle highlighted by foot and udder quality, along with docility, which has brought us to where we are today. If they don’t meet those requirements, they do not last long here. I believe it is important that in order to make our cattle better, and the industry better, these traits need to be very important regardless if you are a purebred, or commercial cattleman. I am confident this set of bulls will inject many of these important traits into your calf crop to take your operation to the next level.

I would like to thank you all for your continued support and interest in our program. We are proud of this set of cattle, excited for their future, and excited as the next generation is hitting the ground now. I would like to thank my family for everything they do, to keep this operation running like a well-oiled machine. We have a no exceptions approach to Johnes testing and prevention here at Chestnut Angus via annual, whole herd testing. If a suspect animal is identified they are culled from the herd immediately along with their calf.

Where would the U.S. Beef Industry be without the influence and challenge of the Angus breed?

The Angus breed makes the industry better in so many ways that many would never consider. Of course, the Angus female has rivals, but they are very few when it comes to full-circle production and longevity. The Certified Angus Beef program has had as much impact as the major influx of Angus influence throughout the industry. The coveted, branded program has forced all other breeds to step up their game in carcass quality and value as the industry experiences a higher percentage of Choice product each year, with the Prime quality grade becoming more prevalent and consistent as well. The cattle within the herd book can be used to produce a product far superior to all others, and that’s why the influence is so strong throughout, as everyone loves the affiliation with a winning product.

The Johnson Family of Chestnut Angus has been breeding high-quality Angus seedstock for decades. Glenn’s approach has not wavered since day one. The focus has always been on a total program approach. The sacrifice of either sex for marketing purposes has been completely unacceptable. Male progeny are expected to perform the roles for which they are utilized, and females must become productive mature cows with impeccable udder quality and milk volume, while maintaining the maternal instinct that Glenn refuses to sacrifice. For these reasons, many seedstock and commercial cattlemen alike have gravitated toward the influence of a Chestnut bull or female in the past five years.

Glenn and Wesly both understand that good livestock are built from the ground up. Cattle that are good at the surface with skeletal integrity, base width, depth and rib shape, are a must to carry the muscle and product that the program is strongly known for. This first set of Chestnut Force 482 sons are more than we could have hoped for, and those that invested in him originally only have good things to say, so you can plan on seeing a lot more of him going forward, this year though, five heavy duty sons will sell! When it comes to cattle that appease both phenotypically and genomically, then you are in the right place. The cow family you find in support of 325 needs little introduction as the Queen Lucy’s hold their place among the most desired of cowboys nationwide, they are admired for their milking ability, easy fleshing and maternal value. The first progeny of UDE New Heights 62/87 have taken the business by storm this past year. He was the $280,000 half interest phenom of the 18th Annual Embryos on Snow that we were fortunate to get in on at the ground floor, and while he isn’t probably as production geared as some of the other sire groups selling, there is no doubt that he has a very special set of qualities that we can appreciate. You will notice they all come with an impressive set of weaning and WDA records and this is further reflected by their genomics records. We certainly experienced the impressive influences that people have been sharing of the SITZ Eternity 739L sired cattle and think they are right for the times.
