MAPES CREEK WATER RESEARCH CENTER

JAN - MAR 2025 | ARC504 Architectural Intergration Studio III

INSTRUCTOR: ROB CORSER

The Mapes Creek Water Research Center is a sustainable design project focused on ecological restoration and environmental research. Located at Mapes Creek’s confluence with Lake Washington, it provides critical habitat for juvenile Chinook salmon while integrating public access through trails and bridges. The facility includes research labs, classrooms, observation rooms, and green infrastructure like extensive green roofs and constructed wetlands. Designed with heavy timber construction and an upzoned NC3-40 designation, it balances conservation with urban integration. This project fosters environmental stewardship, scientific exploration, and community engagement, creating a model for sustainable urban-ecological design in a rapidly developing landscape.
