The “Interlocking Butterfly” is a ceramic studio located at the site in Seattle Chinatown International District. From the very first ideation (both by gesture models and sketches) to the final presentation, the drawings/ sketches / plan and sections document the development of a thoughtful process. From abstract integration of symbolic traditional Chinese elements to the final decision of butterfly and screen elements, the poetic story behind this building has always been evolving. From the rectilinear box to ununiformed wall thickness which optimizes spatial usage, the interlocking of spaces is showcased through visual, acoustic, and spatial relationship, as well as movement flow of visitors.
