COOKTOWN RE-ENACTMENT ASSOCIATION
10AM SUNDAY 13 & SUNDAY 20 JUNE 2021 – BICENTENNIAL PARK
A Shared History - Based on Captain Cook’s seven week stay on the Endeavour River, Cooktown can authentically lay claim to Australia’s first recorded act of reconciliation. The first contact story is of central importance to the beginning of Australia’s modern history and in the spirit of reconciliation, we are sharing it with people from Australia and the world. Visit the brand new Waalmbal Birri Culture Centre on Charlotte Street and share in the stories and ethos of ‘two cultures, one people’.

Captain Cook’s Landing Re-enactment - The re-enactment of the landing of Captain Cook has been performed as a visitor attraction since 1959. The interactions between Cook and his crew and the Bama of the Waalmbal Birri (Endeavour River) region during the HMB Endeavour’s 48 day stay are of significant historic and cultural value to the people of the local region, to the State of Queensland and to all Australians.
