CHAPEL 2024-2025 TROJANS A Year in the Life

A sense of melancholy lingers as we reflect on the memories of this past school year: Brightly decorated hallways, the scent of fresh notebook paper, and the echo of laughter through crowded corridors. As the year unfolded, so too did life at Chapel. First Graders learned to read and write, Sixth Graders began to prepare for High School, 11th Graders adapted to the challenges of the IB Program, and Seniors spread their wings, stepping into adulthood.
The following pages have been carefully curated to preserve these experiences, capturing the essence of Chapel in all its vibrancy. We have chosen the theme of the 2024-2025 Chapel Aeneid, “A Year in the Life”, to reflect this journey of growth and transformation. It encourages us to acknowledge how much has changed and evolved. The various phases of life our community experiences are the inspiration for the use of a gradient blue color scheme—symbolizing how we, like our school, develop as the year progresses.
As you turn these pages, you will encounter portraits, candid moments, and still images that invite you to reminisce about the semesters gone by and look ahead to the future, where even greater opportunities for growth await.
The Yearbook Team

I believe memories are stories that shape who we are. Every recess shared with friends, every lesson learned from teachers, every hug we gave our parents… all influenced the essence of our identity. For me, many of these stories have Chapel as the setting. That’s why Chapel is so precious to me: it’s a beautiful chapter in my life for which I’ll always be grateful for.
But what makes stories truly unforgettable? Impactful characters that I’ve been lucky to have many in mine. Over the past 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of meeting empathetic staff, insightful teachers, and friends for life. While I’m thankful to have grown in their presence, what excites me the most is knowing I’ve also been a part of their stories. I hope I was a supportive character, and hopefully continue to be!
A good story also hooks with an intriguing plot, filled with moments of conflict and resolution. My time as a Trojan was quite the roller coaster: late nights of studying, nerve-racking tests, and (a lot of) anxiety. But it’s also been filled with learning, celebrations, and lunches (Chapel’s food) that made every struggle worthwhile.
And then, as with all stories, there comes an ending. I first stepped onto Chapel’s campus as a three-year-old. Now, at 18, I prepare to step away, perhaps for the last time. But that’s okay. Stories never truly end; they live with us as long as we remember them, and this one I’ll carry with me forever.
Maybe I was wrong; maybe memories don’t just shape us. Maybe we are our memories. If that’s true, then I am, and will always be, a Chapel student.

My Friends:
Throughout my 17 years, I’ve realized that life wouldn’t be the same without the company of friends. Our group, Fellas, made every day special, to the point where I went to bed excited to wake up and share laughs at school. We created a healthy dynamic, where each day someone was teased, but always with fun and unity. Dedão, my best friend for over 10 years. Manuel, my brother who understands me like no one else. Thiago, with his unique charisma. Leo, a true companion; Takeshi, who shares the same sense of humor. Serpa, who even from afar remains close. Fegy, who always makes us laugh. Diego, with his huge heart; and Felipe, JP, and Joaquin, who have always been by my side. Thank you for these 12 unforgettable years at Chapel. You are truly one of a kind.

And to my older siblings, your dedication and pursuit of excellence have shaped my perspective on life. Thank you for molding who I am today.
Flavia: The magical day that we woke up and decided that we do not hate each other marked a pivotal moment in my life. Being your older brother is a true gift; I wouldn’t be my authentic self without all the time spent teaching, correcting, and laughing alongside you.

I am truly blessed to be part of this year group, for all of the good memories that will last a lifetime: all of the days spent together, but mainly the bonds we built. I am thankful for every single classmate that I have had in these wonderful years and will remember every single one. Within this group I am truly thankful for the people that stuck with me through all of the hard times, Laura, Lara, Faria, Karam, Luciano, Lucca, Bia, Ju, Ribeiro, and Valentina.
For all of this moment I am also profoundly thankful for Chapel, the institution that has built almost all of my confidence that will drive me into a better future, giving me the chance to learn from great teachers that were one of the main sources of my knowledge.
Apart from the teachers, I would also like to thank our AD, Mr. Bruno Pereira, who organized all of the sport tournaments making our stressful days happier and always supported us to become better athletes. I am grateful for the wonderful family I am part of. Being proud of my roots and having the parents that have always chosen the best decision for me. Without them I would not be at Chapel and would not have the amazing life that I have.
My dad for always supporting my decisions and my mom for always helping me with my problems.
My step-parent for always helping me when needed, and my brother, cousins, aunts, and grandparents for making my life happier. I wouldn’t be the same without any of you, and I have an eternal debt with all of you.

Not sure yet, either do university here in Brazil or the USA. I haven’t decided yet.
To Dad and Mom, I want to thank you for all the years you took care of me and for all your patience. I want to thank you for being by my side and supporting me through all these years no matter the situation we were in, and I want to say that there is no way I would be here if you were not my parents. I want to thank you for always supporting me no matter what. I want to thank you for providing me with the perfect life I have, a good home school and opportunities. I sometimes feel I dont even deserve all of this, so I really hope I can earn it and make you all proud, to finally be able to repay this immense debt I have for everything you ever gave to me no matter how small. The same applies to every family member that has been with me through my life. I appreciate every single one of you for supporting me and being in my life. Without all of you and your support life would have been much darker.
To Fonze, Bernardo, Lucca, Nickolas and all my other friends, I want to thank you for your friendship. I appreciate every single conversation we had from the smallest topics to the biggest ones. I always loved to talk with all of you and always felt I could confide with you about anything at any time. I want to thank you for helping me whenever I needed help, for inviting me to parties and events. All of you made those random Wednesdays where nothing was going on so much fun just by being there. I loved sharing funny videos and laughing at your jokes. Those are times I’ll never forget ever.

I would like to thank my friends for all the fun moments we had together. They were all truly meaningful memories that will never be forgotten. Up to now those were the greatest years in my life. We’ve been through it all—tests and triumphs, laughter, late nights and parties—and every moment was better because we were together. If I were to re-do all those years, I wouldn’t change anything.
And for the other people at Chapel, I am thankful for the brief yet meaningful moments we shared that shaped who I am today. As we take a step closer into adulthood, I would like to wish prosperity to everyone who made part of this journey.

I truly enjoy this life I have and am thankful for the many second chances my close friends have given me to better myself. Now I feel nothing but joy to spend time with all of you. Can’t wait to one day play for each and every one of you. <3 Thanks for everything!

Alma, you are already a part of me :)) Without you, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Thank you for teaching me to love with compassion and patience! Being friends with you has taught me how important it is to take the high road and be the bigger person.
Paulina, you already know you’re my triplet—I don’t even need to say it :)) You show me that anything is possible when you dedicate yourself, and I aspire to be even half the person you are. Without you both, I wouldn’t know my own potential. I hope to keep learning so much from you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything!
Fefe, despite all the fights and daily stress, you remain an essential part of my life. My twin, who has seen me grow through extremely questionable phases and still loves me (not that you have much choice). I don’t know what my life would be like without you, but it would certainly be a lot less chaotic.
Ribeiro & Lucca, I am grateful for you guys more than anything. Through our “fofoca time” and deep debates about the villain of the week, you’ve made every moment unforgettable. From the laughter to the chaos, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Life wouldn’t be the same without you two!
Mom & Dad, you taught me everything I love – from cooking to bingewatching series while eating ice cream. Thank you both for shaping the person I am today. Without you guys, I wouldn’t be who I am. I’m forever grateful for your love, support, and all the little moments that made my life so special. Love you always!

Paulina: In the short time I’ve known you we’ve made so many good memories, questionable mistakes but above all a lifetime commitment to each other. You’ve taught me how to be persistent and dedicated through your own hard work and patience. I’m forever grateful for your support, love and encouragement. Above that I know that I will always be here for you.
Alma: through the highs and lows you have always been there one way or the other. You’ve inspired so much of the person I am today, and I’ve never been so proud to see a person achieve the things you have. You’ve taught me to deserve so much and more. Love you!

Chapel holds a special place amongst the seven schools I attended during the course of my school career. Given that I have lived in several different countries spanning two continents, I find it poetic that my school education began in Brazil (in Brasília in 2008) and that it will also finish in Brazil (although my education in general is far from over).
When I arrived at Chapel, I immediately felt welcomed, and the entire Chapel community played a crucial role in helping me complete the IBDP. I am very grateful to all my teachers for supporting me in my studies, as well as to the school staff (particularly the library staff and the hall monitors) for helping me and for always making me feel part of this community. I would also like to thank my classmates for being friendly as well, particularly Bruna, who welcomed me right away when I arrived at school.

To my friends, my chosen family, thank you for every laugh, good memory, and every special moment that we’ve shared. You have made my time at Chapel better than I could have hoped for. Around you, I smile, laugh, sometimes cry, but always have the most fun. Each and every one of you will hold a very dear place in my heart, and I will cherish that for many years to come. Lastly, to my other triplet, Duda, thank you for always making me feel good about myself. No moment is boring by your side, especially with your jokes and charisma. Plans after graduation: Live life
As I flip through the pages of this yearbook, my heart swells with gratitude for the life I’ve been blessed to live.
To my family—your unwavering love has been my anchor, your encouragement, my compass.
To my friends—you’ve turned ordinary moments into adventures, laughter into therapy, and setbacks into stories we’ll laugh about someday.
Teachers, mentors, and even strangers who showed kindness in unexpected moments—thank you for shaping me with your wisdom, patience, and belief in my potential. This chapter of my life has been a mosaic of highs and lows, but every challenge taught me resilience, every success humbled me, and every connection reminded me that life’s beauty lies in its people. I’m grateful for the quiet mornings that became epiphanies, the late-night study sessions that turned into heart-to-hearts, and the ordinary days that somehow felt extraordinary because of who I shared them with. Most of all, I’m thankful for the gift of growth—for learning to embrace imperfection, to lead with kindness, and to find joy in simply being alive. As I step into the unknown, I carry these lessons, these faces, these memories—not as goodbyes, but as proof that love, laughter, and gratitude make a life worth living. Here’s to the journey so far, and the one still unfolding. Thank you, all of you, for being part of my story.

Ever since I was four, my life has been defined by constant change. Living in Peru, Portugal, Ecuador, Colombia, and Brazil has given me the opportunity to experience diverse cultures and ways of life. However, this privilege often came with emotional costs. Saying goodbye to friends, leaving behind familiar routines, and starting over in unfamiliar places was always painful. Yet throughout this journey, the friendships I built at Chapel served as an anchor. They eased this transition and left a lasting impact.

Teco,

Bjs, Zidan
Danya, it’s still diffi cult for me to see that my little sister is all grown up now. Seeing you graduate will make me prouder than our parents—haha (you were always my best student). Time goes by very fast. I remember exactly the spring morning when Zidan and I graduated in England, and those four years still feel like yesterday. I remember feeling like the world was at our feet and the sky was the limit. However, challenges and harsh realities shook that very feeling. Still, we remain strong and continue to grow. What I want from you is to never give up on who you are and your purpose. Don’t let your dreams die because of the realities of life. Work hard, be sincere, and follow the right path even though it's the hardest. Also, never forget where you came from and who you are. Love you always, Tarek

Juliana Okubo Vieira Lima
It feels like yesterday when you came to us asking to change schools. No doubt in your mind, focused and determined to study abroad, ready to start the quest to your dreams. You made it very easy for us, since you had this figured all out!
Focus, dedication, passion for everything that you do (as long as you are motivated…) have always been part of who you are, since you were very little. And once you make a decision, you walk the path with resolve and joy! Almost three years went by and here you are: New experiences lived, new friends made, enormous challenges overcome. And an acceptance in an early decision choice at Northwestern! We truly wish that this accomplishment motivates you to always be true to yourself, inspires you to achieve many more objectives and fulfill your dreams, and also reminds you of your potential, whenever you face the many challenges that will certainly come. Today, there is no mom or dad prouder of their daughter than we are!

Lucas Gorgulho De Salles

“This season, the JV Boys Basketball team showed remarkable dedication during practices — working hard, staying focused, and building confidence every step of the way.
The coaching staff inspired great belief in this outstanding group, helping them realize they could strive for—and achieve—great results. We entered the Little 10 tournament full of energy, determined to surprise our opponents. We walked away with a wellearned third place, after a week filled with growth, learning, and unforgettable experiences.
I’m grateful not only to Chapel, but especially to this group of athletes who placed their trust in me. I’ve learned so much from each and every one of them.”

“They are the ‘Overcoming Generation’ — that’s exactly who they are. They started the season quietly, unsure of their true potential. But little by little, game by game, they discovered themselves and gained confidence. Then, they became giants on the court — because they allowed themselves to grow, to face challenges head-on, and never to let mistakes define them.
I’m incredibly proud of this team. I know they’ll continue to improve every year, not only as athletes but as young men. The growth they’ve shown on the court has helped them mature as individuals, and I’m certain they’ll stand out wherever they go.”

Thank you for being yourselves and for the beautiful season we shared together.”

“Junior Varsity is a stage full of changes and challenges — often the toughest time for the boys as they grow and adapt. Everyone develops at their own pace, and that’s part of the journey. Even with the ups and downs, we proudly secured third place in the SPHSL League and had a strong performance at the Little tournament! But beyond the scores, what really matters is the potential these boys have. I truly believe in them, and it’s been amazing to see their continued dedication and growth.”

“We had a season full of highly competitive games, both in the SPHSL League and the Little 10. Futsal is always intense and fiercely contested, even within our own team, since we have a large number of players and fewer spots available compared to field soccer. We see boys who currently play less or sometimes aren’t called up for games at all, but who have great potential to contribute in the coming years.”

The girls have already shown great improvement and have incredible potential for growth.

“The 2024–2025 season was truly special—and for many of you, it was also your last. I know how tough it is to be an athlete in your senior year. The challenges grew, the pressure built, and yet, you showed up with dedication, courage, and heart every single time. As a coach, it was a privilege to witness your growth—not just technically, but in the passion and joy you brought to every performance (and yes, the sparkle in your makeup too!).
To those continuing: carry this energy, unity, and determination into the next season.
To those moving on: know that cheer will always be a part of you. The lessons of teamwork, resilience, and friendship will follow you wherever you go.
I’m incredibly proud of each of you. Thank you for being part of this journey and for everything you’ve taught me along the way.
Wishing you success, happiness, and bold new adventures—you’re more than ready for them! Let’s Go Trojans!” — Renata de Almeida, Coach

“I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of a team that showed me what teamwork, friendship, and trust really mean. Over time, we built more than stunts and routines—we built unbreakable bonds.
Cheer taught us how to fall and get back up, how to lead, listen, and show up even on tough days. I’ll never forget the time a stunt failed and we all ended up in a pile on the floor—only to burst out laughing until we cried. In that moment, it wasn’t about the routine—it was about joy, resilience, and being together. After our final routine, we hugged—sweaty, out of breath, holding on tighter than usual. Not because we were sad it was over, but because we were grateful it happened. Even with everything changing—whether it was the end of the season or our last routine—that moment was still ours. That team was still ours.” — Maria Eduarda Oliveira, Team Captain

Where Every Scribble Tells a Story
Throughout the year, ECEC students explored the elements of art, including color, line, shape, value, texture, and form. Through hands-on activities, they created beautiful masterpieces and showed great enthusiasm for artistic expression.

One of the highlights of the year was the Family Day activity, where students painted their family portraits inspired by the styles of Paul Klee, Piet Mondrian, and Gustav Klimt. They explored colors, shapes, and patterns, creating unique and meaningful artworks that artistically reflected their loved ones.

Inspired by Nature, Driven by Curiosity
In this school year the students took so many opportunities to show their talent.
Our 6th Graders’ painting project was a highlight. Students could paint on the floor of the art hut, adding insects and bugs, leaves and flowers to our room – creating a magical atmosphere.

Having fun with different media and art tools, elementary students are able to learn and explore all the Elements and Principles of ART, getting involved in many art activities and lots of exploration. Students were also able to appreciate art from famous artists and develop their art vocabulary and enhance their visual learning.

Concept, Craft, and Creativity in Every Grade
The High School Art results were great this year from 7th Grade to 12th Grade! Here are some examples of the Art units this school year: 7th Graders reflected on their ESD trip in Art class creating a painting of butterflies, and included patterns as one theme explored throughout the semester! 8th Graders explored Surrealism through different projects, including one interdisciplinary activity with English classes in which students painted concepts of utopian and dystopian societies inspired by a moment from their vacations! 9th and 10th Graders in Integrated Art worked hard throughout the semester producing a mobile composed of plates and paper rolls on which they designed fantastic images that were real but impossible to happen, and the results hanging on the main hall were amazing!

The 9th and 10th Graders in Elective Art explored ways to fragment images of their choice and create value using a mixture of colors! Our IB Art students in 11th Grade produced many different artworks, as well as their Comparative Studies, and their Investigation Books, and the IB Art students in 12th Grade celebrated their achievements with an incredible IB Art Show in March! And of course, the field trip to Pinacoteca de Sao Paulo was a great experience for the IB Art students. Congratulations to all students for their involvement. And remember that all their art can be seen in the site that I put together.
Ms. Sylvia Almeida

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TRIPS
1st Grade:
Sabor de Fazenda and ZooFoz
“In the first semester, we went on a field trip to Sabor de Fazenda , and it was so much fun! We left school before classes started and came back just in time for lunch. There was a lot of soil and many different kinds of plants we got to see and smell. My favorite part was when they taught us how to plant flowers — I planted a yellow one and I still have it at home! They also let us pick up roly-polies, cockroaches, and even earthworms. We were shocked to learn that earthworms are actually super clean! I loved going to Sabor de Fazenda !”
— Valentina Perrotti

“During our visit to ZooFoz , I fed the animals and even held some of them! We touched rats, guinea pigs, birds, rabbits, snakes, hamsters — and even cockroaches! Surprisingly, no one got grossed out. My favorite one to touch was the hamster.”
— Stefano Munoz

“I was really excited to hold a bird! We also saw a ‘wolf dog’ and had a snack on the bus with cake, an apple, a sandwich, and orange juice. The place looked like a house filled with animals, and the ground was all dirt, just like a real zoo. The trip was perfect!”
— Bernardo Gomes
2nd Grade: Toca da Raposa and Carroção
“Our grade visited Toca da Raposa . The place was huge — kind of like a zoo — and we walked a lot, so we were super tired at the end. Bagunça (I think that was his name) showed us around and explained how they rescued the animals. We also learned about the animals’ habitats.
My favorite part was the big playground with lots of fun options. We had lunch in a big room with pictures of native communities, and the food was good. While we walked, we saw fruits used by native people to paint themselves.
I really liked this field trip and would totally go back.”
— Laura Weaver

“Our trip to Carroção was an unforgettable adventure! My favorite activity was the ‘stone puzzle,’ where we hiked up a river, moved stones to complete a challenge, and unlocked secret doors leading to caves and a slide! We also went on a mission inside an airplane and discovered a message from paleontologists — we even found a T-Rex skull bone! For lunch, I had rice, beans, meat, and a yummy dessert. We saw iguanas and even met a caveman named Balu who spoke in a funny language. We later went to Bio Planet, fed animals, and visited a fish lab. I had a lot of fun!”
— Tomás Guerreiro
3rd Grade: Aquário
de São Paulo and Carroção
“We went to the Aquário de São Paulo , and it was so much fun! It felt like a little airport — we ‘traveled’ from Brazil to Africa to Australia. I loved seeing the polar bear, who was pregnant at the time! We also saw three aquariums full of penguins, though I forgot their names. There was a cool show with sea lions and seals doing tricks. We saw meerkats, coatis, and rodents — but my favorite was the crocodile, even though I think it had a back problem. We learned that lionesses are the hunters and that sloths sleep 20 hours a day! I rate the trip a 10 out of 10!”
— Isabela Figueiredo

“I had an unforgettable experience during our 3rd Grade trip to Carroção . I felt more independent because we slept there for one night and spent two days with our friends on amazing adventures. My favorite part was the Indiana Jones-style adventure! The food was always delicious — especially the brigadeiro and ice cream. At night, we played a game in which teams built a bridge to reach a tower and plant their flag. We also had time to relax, swim, or play soccer. At bedtime, the teachers read us stories to help us fall asleep. The trip was perfect!”
— Marina Toro
4th Grade: Museu de Zoologia and Toca da Raposa
“Last semester, we visited the Museu da Zoologia and learned a lot! We explored exhibits about all the biomes in Brazil and stopped at each one to see the habitats and their features — that was one of the best parts. It connected with the projects we did in BSS and Portuguese, like the biome posters. We brought our notebooks to take notes and do activities. We saw insects, seashells, and many butterflies — and even dinosaur bones! We had snacks on the bus and lunch at Chapel. We really loved learning this way!”
—
Maria Gabriela Lima and Vinicius Vieira

“Our 4th grade trip to Toca da Raposa was a full day of learning and fun! The most exciting activity was a pretend battle with indigenous people. We learned about their food, how they cook, and the clothes they wear. I really enjoyed their dances and the way they dressed — some wore only shorts, like a bathing suit. We stayed until around 4:00 p.m. and even tried traditional indigenous food, like fish fried with no seasoning (it was okay!). We also visited a museum filled with indigenous artifacts. The trip connected with what we’ve been learning in BSS and Portuguese. My favorite part was seeing how they prepared their food. I’d definitely go again!” — Giancarlo Lombardi
6th Grade: Museu da Imigração
“Our class had a short but very interesting visit to the Museu da Imigração . We learned that the museum used to be a place where immigrants stayed when they first arrived in Brazil. It helped us understand where many families came from and how hard it was to start a new life in a new country. We watched a video that added to what we were learning in BSS and Portuguese. Even though the trip was quick, it was meaningful and sparked a lot of curiosity about immigration in Brazil.”
— Nicholas Ribeiro

“We went to the Museu da Imigração , and even though we walked a lot, it was totally worth it. At the beginning, we saw a model of the museum and learned about its history. My favorite part was the short film about immigrants and the museum itself. After the visit, we had lunch back at school and a snack on the bus. We learned about immigration from Europe to Brazil, and it was really cool.”
— Rafaela Rodarte

— Eduardo Kato, 9th Grade

Between iconic architecture and breathtaking waterfalls, students experienced Brazil’s heart and soul and explored the topic of politics to shape the preservation of natural resources.

“This trip helped us develop an interest towards Brazilian history and politics.”
— Giovanna Ronco,
