Welcome

As we sit down once again to write the welcome for this year’s sale, it’s hard not to reflect on 2025 and simply say wow. Calf prices across the board have been exceptional, with bred heifers bringing upwards of $8,000. We would like to believe these top prices are driven by producers investing in high-quality breeding stock. There truly is no faster way to improve a herd than through a strong, consistent bull battery.

This year’s bull pen is smaller than in past years, but the quality speaks for itself. We are offering a solid selection of bulls from every sire group, which to us shows consistency across the cow herd rather than reliance on a single sire.

The Solitude group is made up mostly of calves out of first-calf heifers. We were so impressed with his performance that we moved him into the cow herd, despite not assisting a single heifer bred to him.

Show Stopper is a bull we raised out of Danna’s show cow, if you ask Danna she would probably tell you he’s the best bull on the farm. He adds length and consistency, and his calves are easy to identify at a glance.

Knox was purchased strictly for performance, and the depth of body and muscle he stamps into his calves has been impressive.

Golden Boy is the tan bull we walked. This will be the final year we offer calves from a red herd sire. He is homozygous polled and has added length while maintaining some color in the herd.

Newman was used extensively in the purebred herd and has since been moved to the unregistered cows to help balance some older-style genetics.

Away from the cattle, 2025 was a full and rewarding year for the whole family. Ray and Mary Ann spent plenty of time chasing grandchildren—from a trip to Tennessee last November to watch Cole play ball, to countless hockey and ball games for Owen and Hayden. They enjoyed some winter warmth in Osoyoos, BC. In July, Ray went fishing with friends while Mary Ann rode at Ya Ha Tinda. They attended 4-H Achievement Days and the CCYA in Stettler with Danna, Charlee, and Trace.

Karen and Chad both work full-time on the farm while making sure the kids never miss a ball game, archery practice, gymkhana, or time in the barn with their show cattle.

Danna had the opportunity to work at Farm Fair with the Blanchettes and at Agribition with the Elder family—thank you for taking her under your wing and sharing your knowledge. She never fails to make a deal on heifers while she is away. Danna also served on the organizing committee for CCYA in Stettler and was selected as a 4-H Ambassador for the East Central Region.

Charlee’s love for horses continued this year. Mary Ann and Charlee both attended the Marci Powell clinic in Oyen and learned a great deal. Charlee also played U13 Provincial softball out of Consort and had a great season.

Trace has developed a strong interest in roping in the branding pen—something he talks about constantly. He also played U9 ball in Consort and has taken up archery at school. All the kids have taken an interest in golf this year. Together, they have several 4-H projects on the go, including steers, heifers, and two cow-calf pairs heading to town.

Lynn and Dallas continue to keep a schedule that would make most people dizzy. Cole, Owen, and Hayden are all busy with hockey and baseball, including spring and fall ball in some pretty great (and usually warmer) places. All three have steer projects in 4-H this year. A good portion of the summer was spent at Turtle Lake, where we also enjoyed a much-needed getaway.

We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without some help. First off with the sale, Whitney keeps the picture and video pen happy with snickers and getting the catalog put together. The crew at Provost Livestock who goes above and beyond all year round. Dione, the Hamm family and branding crews thanks for the help and laughs throughout the year.

If you are ever in the area and would like a tour of the farm, please stop in—coffee is always on. We truly appreciate your interest and support and look forward to visiting with you.
