As Bowie himself once remarked, Denis, Rock n Roll is in your blood .
From the door of Olympic Studios, where Bowie recorded Diamond Dogs in 1974, to live stadium shows in the 1990s, Denis s full archive is at last opened and many unseen images revealed for the first time.David Bowie by Denis O Regan tells Bowie s musical story in pictures, with O Regan s own words relaying his experience of documenting that incredible journey.
Author of the hugely successful Ricochet: David Bowie 1983 (Particular Books, 2018), O Regan has toured with the biggest stars from The Rolling Stones and Queen to Pink Floyd and Duran Duran, to name a few. Photographer Martyn Goddard reveals what it was like to shadow Blondie on the cusp of superstardom in 1978. Uncut Magazine
Thus, this work is more than a scrapbook; it s a time capsule that revives an era of danger, glamour, and creative revolution. And it s also the perfect excuse to revisit the Blondie phenomenon, the art of photographing rock stars, and why, perhaps, bands aren t made like they used to be. GQ Mexico
Goddard s lens doesn t merely document Blondie s rise; it captures a turning point in music and visual culture. Louder Than War a handsome book. BBC s Robert Elms Show
Blondie in Camera 1978 is richly illustrated with photographer Martyn Goddard s most famous images of Blondie. Taken during their breakthrough year, these pictures have graced magazines, newspapers, promotional campaigns, posters and even the Picture This single cover and the Best of Blondie album cover.
Blondie s rise to the mainstream surface punctuated the late 70s with a raft of unforgettable New Wave hits. The genre-mashing classic Heart of Glass along with the likes of Hanging on a Telephone and Picture This were as zesty and fresh-faced as the young band members, who soon found superstardom as their singles landed and the strength of their attitude began to resonate. When Goddard travelled to New York in 78 with an assignment to photograph lead-singer Debbie Harry, he couldn t have imagined that Blondie s songs and his images would soon become permanent fixtures on the cultural landscape.
This is the ultimate treasure trove for fans of one of the world s biggest bands.
Martyn Goddard studied photography at Harrow College of Art. After graduating in 1974, he assisted leading Rock photographer Gered Mankowitz before launching his own freelance career with several assignments photographing Queen. He became part of the New Wave music scene of the seventies, working with acts such as Blondie, The Jam, Sham 69 and The Cure to name a few. He has contributed or staged several photography exhibitions, including Blondie in Camera 1978 and The Jam: About the Young Idea 2015. In the late 1970 s, he was invited to contribute to the Telegraph Sunday Magazine, where his first major assignment was a cover and feature shoots of Debbie Harry in New York. He went on to shoot some of the great personalities of the music and arts world. In recent years, he has moved to a digital platform, becoming an active photoblogger and content provider, as well as producing travel features and images for Media groups in UK, Europe and USA, in addition to cataloguing and preserving his extensive archive of rock bands and musicians.

Stunning images selected from Cox's personal archives and overseen by Robert Smith
Included in Rough Trade's Books of the Year 2024
What sets Stills apart from your standard rock photo book is the captions, written by Robert Smith himself. WhyNow The Cure Stills follows the changing faces of one of the leading British rock bands during the post-punk and new-wave movements of the late 70s and 80s. As the band has continued over a period of nearly 50 years, front man and only constant member Robert Smith has maintained the band s popularity throughout the changing musical eras, while staying true to their individualistic style and quirkiness.
Instrumental in the creation of the varying incarnations of The Cure is photographer Paul Cox, who first encountered the group onTop of the Pops in 1980. Having established a creative, productive and trusting relationship with the band, Cox s resulting work is The Cure in all their glory. Including over 200 colour and 75 black-and-white images, with accompanying captions selected and written by Cox and Smith, this book is a celebration of a seminal band through the lens of a skilled photographer.
Paul s career took off in the late 1970 s initially with a job with London Features International photographing bands at concerts and various locations. One of these was the BBC studios for Top of the Pops, where Paul first encountered The Cure in 1980.

David Bowie: Rock n Roll with Me is Geoff MacCormack s remarkable photographic memoir, charting his lifelong friendship with David Bowie. Images bring MacCormack s stories to life, showing the places he and Bowie inhabited, the people they met and the adventures they shared. Beginning at Burnt Ash Primary school in the mid-1950s, the years go by in a whirlwind of discovering and making music. The book contains nearly 150 photos taken by MacCormack throughout the years, some never seen before: from touring the Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane shows and sailing to New York on a world tour, to Bowie s first major filmThe Man Who Fell to Earth and the recording of Station to Station and his Thin White Duke persona.
David Bowie: Rock n Roll with Me is an incredible story, told with wit and candour. A must for all Bowie fans, it sheds a rare insight into a friendship where two men shared their love for music from the moment they met to their final goodbyes.
Geoff MacCormack, David Bowie s lifelong friend, joined Bowie s 1973 world tour as an additional back-up vocalist and percussionist, and later as a Diamond Dog in '74 and what would be known as The Young Americans Soul Tour . He also worked on the six albums from Aladdin Sane to Station to Station. After three years of touring, recording and travelling with Bowie, MacCormack started an award winning (Gold Clio, Ivor Novello) music production partnership with Simon Goldenberg who he met, coincidentally, in The Three Tuns pub, home of Bowie s earlier Arts Lab . For over 20 years, they wrote music for high-end advertising, films and TV. Geoff now manages the use and sale of his photographs of David Bowie around the world and has exhibited in St Petersburg, the USA and the UK, including the hugely successful Rock n Roll with Me exhibition at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery from September 2020 through to May 2022.

Many previously unpublished works and notebooks included
Exclusive interview with Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood
Includes essay by the novelist Ben Myers
A major retrospective is held at the Ashmolean Museum from August 2025 to January 2026
This major retrospective catalogue accompanies the first institutional exhibition focusing on the visual works of art by Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke. The majority of the paintings, drawings and digital works were specifically made for Yorke s internationally celebrated band Radiohead, formed in Oxford in 1985. The book is beautifully designed in the same size as a record cover and features iconic artworks from the 1980s until today, relating to Radiohead albums, their covers and promotional band images, as well as sketchbooks and rare materials from their archives that have never before been published. It offers fresh views on the art of album covers, exploring the complex relationship between visual art and music.
Radiohead was formed in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, in 1985. The collaboration with the artist Stanley Donwood began in 1994 when the band was developing their second album, The Bends, which was released on 13th March, 1995. 2025 is therefore the 40-year anniversary of the band and the 30-year anniversary of the release of The Bends. The catalogue s focus is upon the art produced by both Stanley Donwood and the band s lead vocalist, Thom Yorke presented chronologically. Radiohead s popularity has never waned and they have a strong core following and new fans (many of who are the children of original fans).
The high-quality reproductions are complemented by exclusive interviews with the artists, and essays by Alex Farquharson, Nico Kos Earle, Benjamin Myers, James Putnam and Jennifer Ramkalawon.
A major retrospective is held at the Ashmolean Museum from August 2025 to January 2026.

Unrivalled, fascinating, and original insight into an overlooked field of popular culture the art of the band logo
The result of six years researching, interviewing, writing and general obsessiveness
A visually rich and varied book, with contributions from leading figures in the music and graphic design worlds
The book has four separate spectacular cover designs, randomly distributed across the print run
The V&A may proudly hold the original artwork for the Rolling Stone s tongue and lips logo, but this is an anomaly. The cultural significance of the band logo has been overlooked. And yet, thousands of people wear them on T-shirts every day, mostly as badges of allegiance, but also simply because they look cool. Some have even become tropes think The Ramones, Run DMC, AC/DC. (Q: How many people who wear Ramones T-shirts have seen them live or know their music?)
Band logos first emerged during the 1960s. They became commonplace in the 1970s and 1980s, when record companies and designers latched on to the power of music branding. Bands and logos may seem like unlikely bedfellows yet it s often the most eccentric, anarchic types who end up with the most compelling or ingenious visual marques to signify their attitude and style of music.
It is also interesting how many prominent graphic designers first became interested in logos and letterforms by doodling the names of their favourite bands on their school exercise books. Some of these efforts were reverential copies, others were improvements or embellished versions of the original. A wannabe designer s version of attempting to emulate a Hendrix riff.
Logo Rhythm includes stories and insight from well-known designers such as Beatles art director Kosh, Bowie designer Jonathan Barnbook, Malcom Garrett, Rob O Connor of Stylorouge, Chris Bigg of 4AD and editorial guru Mark Porter. There are contributions from Horace Panter of The Specials, XTC s Andy Partridge, Allan Gorrie of Average White Band, Jim McCarty of The Yardbirds and Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand.
The book hails the unsung heroes and tall stories behind iconic band logos of all genres. It unearths original artwork and proffers informed comment and critique. It celebrates the good, the eccentric and the notorious, digging for nuggets of interest and illumination in the compelling world of band logos.

They were raunchy, rude and hilarious the contemporary media described them as a cross between the female Rolling Stones and the female Marx Brothers and they nearly made it
October 21, 1982. Three singers stand on the steps of the High Court with large cheques and broken dreams. The women are Annie (Annabel Leventon, the book s author), GB (Gaye Brown), and Di-Di (Diane Langton). Their dream was of a British three-woman rock band, unique and different from anything that had gone before. They called themselves Rock Bottom. They were raunchy, rude and hilarious the contemporary media described them as a cross between the female Rolling Stones and the female Marx Brothers and they nearly made it.
Until Thames Television stole everything and made a major award-winning series called Rock Follies, about them, based on them, but without them. It made stars of the three lookalikes playing them. And they lost everything.
A common enough tale of showbiz betrayal. Except that they fought back. At the offset of the Court trial, the Head of Drama at Thames TV sarcastically quipped, three little actresses against the might of EMI? Forget it, the three ladies were told. Move on. They didn t. They took the case to the High Court and won. Breach of Confidence is now on the Statute Books and it has become one of the defining cases in Intellectual Property.
The Real Rock Follies is a real-life story of youthful trust betrayed, dreams of stardom dashed and cruel lessons learnt. The three girls, then in their late twenties, learned too late that in the harsh showbiz world you can hardly trust anyone, not even your friends. However, despite everything, they got the last laugh. Their promising career couldn t be returned to them but they enjoyed the huge satisfaction (both emotional and financial) that the ruling confirmed that the creative concept behind Rock Follies was fully theirs.
Annabel Leventon is an actress, singer, and writer. She first won a scholarship to Oxford and paid her way through her studies by singing with a dance band. Nominated as Actress of the Year for her lead role in the original London production of rock musicalHair!, she went on to form, with fellow actresses Gaye Brown and Diane Langton, the first and only three-girl rock group in England, Rock Bottom

Comprehensive history of jazz from its roots in Afro-American music to global influence Highlights iconic figures like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Ella Fitzgerald Explores jazz's evolution and influence on modern music through vibrant storytelling and musical excerpts
Improvisation, swing, blue notes, glissando, scat these and other ingredients have made jazz a unique musical genre, unmistakable and loved in every corner of the globe. Born in the United States at the end of the 19th century, jazz has its roots in Afro-American music, but has succeeded in becoming contaminated owing to contributions from different styles, fragmenting in turn into countless currents and categories. From the first New Orleans bands, passing through the absolute genius of Satchmo Armstrong who became model for all later jazz musicians to the big bands of Duke Ellington, Fletcher Henderson, and Benny Goodman, or to the unsurpassed singing performances of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, this book retraces the history of jazz, lingering on the most outstanding personalities and musical excerpts that have marked this musical genre more than any other. Besides the classics, ample space is reserved also for artists of the second postwar period who succeeded in renewing jazz, restoring its freshness and vitality again for the new generations of artists that today tread the musical scene.
