Task 02 A - Speculative: Literature Review towards Architectural Spatial Concepts

In an effort to expand the students' understanding of design in space, this project now challenges specific architectural concepts.

NARRATIVE THINKING

Concrete vs Greens

This model aims to capture the contrast between the natural forest and the concrete jungle. The past of the city is on the right, surrounded by greenery and nature, whereas the current state of the city is on the left, with many high-rise structures. giving off a dense, depressing, and anxious mood. Once the left part putting onto the right part, the greens can only see in the fragmented holes and this is the issue that we are facing right now, which is Lack of Greens.

Escaping

This physical poster aims to convey the sense that the greenery is eagerly attempting to escape the extremely high dense concrete city.

Green Culture . Cultivating . Experiencing

SITE 01

Master Plan

Observation

Site 01 was surrounded by high-rise buildings, with the majority of the buildings being mixed-use. The site's accessibility by public transportation is a strength. There are also a few Art & Culture establishments nearby, such as the National Textile Museum, which is just next to Site 01, and the Central Market, which is direct across the Klang River. The lack of greenery and vegetation at the site, as well as the way the main road isolated the greenery, are its weakness.

Master Plan

Observation

Alargeportionofthegreenspaceswas situated on the west side of Site 01. There are extremely few green spaces for public usage on the east side, and those that do exist are mainly used for private purposes. While the east is a concreteforestcity, thewestismainlya naturalgreenforest.

(Do refer the Google Earth Master Plan as well)

LACK OF GREENS

According to the WHO, every city is recommended to provide a minimumof9squaremetresofurbangreenspaceforeachpersonand that UGS must be accessible, safe and functional. But in KL, it has around 8 square metres per capita of urban green space only. ComparedwithMalaysia'scloser'neighbour',Singapore,acity-statewith the third highest population density in the world, provides 66 square metresofgreenspaceperhabitant
