CONTENT

Assignment 1 Project 1 Artistic Manifestation

Assignment 1 - Task 01a Tectonic Identity Manifesto

This project will allow us to examine the role of the artist as a cultural and social gesture that serves as a catalyst for identity, creativity, and direct declaration to the general public and nation. Arts have a crucial role in interpreting imagination, conveying ideas, and expressing emotions. What counts is the concept behind it, not the aesthetics. A narrative, a declaration, a gesture.

The Linkage

To connect the individuals.

Assignment 1 - Task 01b Site Mapping

In a group of 24, we're doing a site analysis along a section of the Langat River in Bating, Selangor. We need to figure out things like river vs settlements, macro site analysis, micro site analysis, designing the brief, and design considerations.

The Knotted River .

截河 结河

The concept is to create a network along the river, where there would be 'knots' of human, wildlife and river activities to connect them to each other and among themselves

Project 3 - Art Gallery/ Cultural Institution

Sama - sama Gallery

Community . Connectivity . Interactivity

Sama-sama Gallery Sama-sama Gallery begins with investigating what an art gallery is and how to overcome the obstacles of establishing an art gallery in a village location. And, finally, how to direct people to the project site - Banting. The goal of the Sama-sama Gallery is to improve engagement amongst individuals while also providing educational opportunities to local communities. In order to find more brilliant future artists in the area. As a result, in this gallery, the answers to the identified challenges will be turned into design using the architectural language.

This diagram is showing the fastest way from the bus stop to the site. The bus stop is located in the commercial area, opposite the wet market, so there is the potential to bring more people to the site.

Since the Entrance is fixed at the west of the site, so I would like to propose a pedestrian way to cross the site.

The Linkage

To connect the individuals.

PROPOSED ART GALLERY

PLAN

DESIGN CONCEPT

The gallery will represent white paper, while the human feet will act as pens or drawing tools. When people enter the gallery, the pen begins to draw on the white paper. And, network lines appear as people walk around. When network lines are interlaced, it creates a link between humans.

MAIN FACADE Wood panels that interlock to emphasize the notion of my manifesto while also being relevant to the case study. Two distinct angles of wood panels might provide the impression of multiple layers.

The aim of my manifesto, as well as my design intention, are both represented in this roof plan. Which I'd like to improve in terms of the artist-public interaction. Also, I was using the case study particlization concept on the roof, so that when you look down from the top, you can see the connectivity between the areas, which also acts as a connection line between the users.

SHUYANG ART GALLERY Address of building : Suqian / China Architects : Architectural Design and Research Institute of Zhejiang University Completion : 2013

DESIGN CONCEPT The architecture concept extracts the most fundamental three colors of Chinese calligraphy, black, white, and red, from rice-paper, brush-pen, and seal to produce a pure space experience with pure colors. The aesthetic interest of the calligraphy in the architectural layout referring to Zheng Banqiao’s calligraphic style is to respond to the ideological and practical work, the light and heavy, and the opening and closing of the calligraphy through controlling the size of the building, the space, the contrast of the materials and so on.

DESIGN STRATEGY The largest exhibition hall along the street has a redbricked exterior wall. The way of cutting the corner through the arc surface strengthens the iconic character of the building along the street, forming a unique lasting appeal. The white volume selects prefabricated concrete hanging board, and the surface is treated with a vertical chisel, such as ricepaper, which formed delightful contrast to the smooth and fine ink surface. The bottom of the body is overhanging to show a floating state, reflecting the spirit of detachment in calligraphy. The tranquil water in the entrance is set up to keep off the noise of the outside world, and the visitors are introduced into the gallery by a bridge on the surface of the water. The continuous transition of space makes the visitors compose the mind quickly before entering the exhibition hall.

The ink volume and angle are cut and painted with dark grey fluorocarbon paint, and the wall presents a subtle color change in the blue sky, with a simple and profound texture. The rounded corners are processed to show the sense of gravity in calligraphy.
