EAST LINDSEY INVESTMENT FUND AWARDS £55,000 TOWARDS CREATION OF HUB FOR SHOWCASING COASTAL SAFETY

A grant of £55,000 has been awarded from the East Lindsey Investment Fund (ELIF) towards the creation of a bespoke multiagency hub in Mablethorpe to support coastal safety.

The funding will go towards the creation of the hub which will join together a wide range of services, such as His Majesty’s Coastguard, lifeboats and lifeguards (RNLI), National Coastwatch Institution, Natural England plus both county and district councils, to enhance how they tackle key issues under the banner of the Atlantis Alliance.

The multi-agency hub, which has been given planning permission for a space at Queen’s Park Beach Huts, will provide a strong and visible presence for emergency, safeguarding and policing authorities on the coast, providing reassurance to locals, visitors and businesses.

The idea was put forward by Lincolnshire Police, and the hub will be managed by Mablethorpe and Sutton Town Council while National Coastwatch Mablethorpe will oversee the building’s maintenance.

By providing this designated facility, organisations will be able to gather, provide information to visitors, act as a base for first aid and store awareness literature and digital displays.

Work is already under way to create the new hub which will continue to be utilised in the off-season period as an emergency planning response centre and also for engagement, awareness and training.

Councillor Steve Kirk, portfolio holder for the coastal economy, and Councillor Adam Grist,

portfolio holder for market towns and the rural economy, said: “Each year, between three and four million visitors make the trip to the coast in our area, particularly Skegness and Mablethorpe, which presents a unique challenge for our support services.

“The increased number of tourists and tourism related activities adds pressure on the rescue and emergency services which we know can also negatively impact our residents and businesses.

“Being able to provide support for the services to work together and offer an enhanced and more cohesive response to issues they face on a daily basis, from beach safety and missing people to crime prevention and fire safety, is really important to us.

“ELIF was created for this very purpose, to make our district more welcoming through initiatives such as the Atlantis Alliance and the enhanced experience that offers to visitors, residents and businesses.

“This helps us to promote a safe and sustainable visitor experience for all holiday makers who visit the coast of Skegness and Mablethorpe. In turn, this will encourage spending in the local economy and will help to support thousands of jobs.”

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said: “The seven agencies which make up the Atlantis Alliance are serving more than 28 miles of East Lincolnshire coastline, and places community engagement at the heart of its mission.

“This new hub will enable to Atlantis Alliance to continue to build on past successes and further strengthen our efforts to engage with, and safeguard, our residents and visitors.”

LINCOLNSHIRE DOG FOOD COMPANY DONATES OVER 70,000 MEALS TO DOG CHARITIES IN 2025

Recent figures have shown that there are approximately 100,000 homeless dogs entering shelters every year. Largely due to the cost-ofliving crisis, dogs have been the most commonly relinquished pet, at just under half of the total pets given up for adoption*.

Lincolnshire-based Natural Dog Food Company has reaffirmed its commitment to animal welfare by continuing its support for local Lincolnshire charities, Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Boston, Lincolnshire Greyhound Trust, and Daramy Pet Rescue, along with many other small rescue centres.

For several years, the Natural Dog Food Company has worked hand-in-hand with local charities to make a positive impact on the lives of rescue dogs in the area. This year, as part of their ongoing donations, Natural Dog Food Company has donated almost 9000kg (around 70,000 meals) of their nutritious dog food to assist in these charities’ missions of providing proper care and nourishment to dogs in need.

For more than 60 years, Jerry Green Dogs Rescue has been transforming the lives of abandoned and unwanted dogs across the UK by providing them with shelter and finding them loving homes.

Edward Creaser, Director at the Natural Dog Food Company, has said:

“At Natural Dog Food, we believe that every dog deserves a healthy, nutritious meal – regardless of their circumstances. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to support charities by gifting food to dogs in need. So far this year, we’ve donated 70,000 meals (approximately 9000kg of food), and we’re proud to be making a tangible difference to the lives of dogs who might otherwise go without. It’s not just about feeding them – it’s about showing they matter.”

Jerry Green Dog Rescue, one of the longterm charity partners of Natural Dog Food Company, welcomed the continued support. A spokesperson from the Boston centre said:

“Natural Dog Food’s generous and ongoing donations make a real difference. It ensures our dogs are receiving the best possible nutrition during their time with us, which helps them thrive and find their forever homes.”

JACK CARTWRIGHT

RELEASES GRIPPING NEW CRIME NOVEL

Bestselling Lincolnshire crime author Jack Cartwright is set to release the fifth book in his gripping Deadly Wolds series, Secrets from the Grave on 21st August.

Set once again in the haunting rural landscapes of Lincolnshire, this latest instalment promises to chill readers to the bone while delving deeper into the darkness that lies just beneath the surface of everyday life.

PLOT SUMMARY:

Three teenage boys savour the summer sun in Lincolnshire’s remote Snipe Dales. With school finished and endless days ahead the only rule is to be home in time for dinner. But when the boys begin building a woodland camp, they make a gruesome discovery. What begins as a season of freedom quickly turns into a summer shrouded in fear, casting a deep and lasting shadow over their lives.

As the discovery sparks a major investigation, DI George Larson and DS Ivy Hart are called in. Newly assigned to Lincolnshire and tasked with building a specialist team, they’ve been given all the resources they need to succeed, except time. With Larson’s retirement fast approaching, his final goal is to leave the team in Ivy’s capable hands. However, the pressure to deliver is mounting, and the stakes have never been higher. For Larson and Hart, it could be their most trying investigation yet.

What follows is a harrowing tale of secrets, silence, deceit, and the shadows cast by the past. It’s the kind of slow-burning psychological suspense that fans of Jack Cartwright have come to enjoy.

Jack Cartwright, whose Deadly Wolds series has earned critical acclaim for its vivid settings and emotionally complex characters, said: “This book leads readers into a new kind of darkness; not just crime but the clash between youthful innocence and harsh truth. Snipe Dales may be beautiful, but like much of Lincolnshire’s countryside, it teases at the fertile mind with endless possibilities.”

The Deadly Wolds series has gained a strong national and international following, praised for its atmospheric storytelling and intelligent, characterdriven plots. HISTORIC LINCOLNSHIRE ESTATE

TO HOST EXCLUSIVE 1940S - THEMED OPEN HOUSE EVENT

“One of the best-kept secrets in Lincolnshire” will pay homage to its World War II past for a throwback celebration event

A stunning stately home in Lincolnshire will be taking a trip back to the 1940s this October for an immersive two-day event, inviting the general public to join a roaring celebration of bygone days.

Harlaxton Manor will host its Open House on Saturday 4th October and Sunday 5th October, bringing the sights and sounds of the 1940s to the present day for a weekend of history and entertainment. It is an exclusive opportunity to explore beyond the walls of the Manor, which is typically closed to the public.

Dr Holly Carter, Dean of Harlaxton College, said: “We have long felt that Harlaxton Manor is one of the best-kept secrets in Lincolnshire and

beyond, so it gives me great pride to announce our 1940s Open House.

“This October, we’re inviting the public to join us in recognising and celebrating our rich and storied heritage, and acknowledging the important role this beautiful Manor played during the Second World War.

“The Open House promises to be an exciting two days of live music, funfilled entertainment and timely reenactments that transport you back to the 1940s, all while soaking in the gorgeous sights of Harlaxton Manor. We hope you can join us this October. We are already counting down the days before those great doors open for you all!”

The event commemorates a significant time in history for the Grade-I listed estate, with Harlaxton Manor being requisitioned by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, and serving as the officers’ mess for RAF Harlaxton. It would later house a company from the 1st Airborne Division, playing a key role in the Allied Forces’ effort towards victory in the mid-20th century.

To recognise this chapter in Harlaxton’s history, the Manor will host a two-day event, complete with captivating re-enactments, live music, classic dance performances, and period-themed traders to create an immersive 1940s experience.

With the Harlaxton Manor grounds typically being closed to the public, due to its present-day use as a British campus for the

American University of Evansville, this event offers the public a rare opportunity to step inside the Elizabethan, Jacobean and Baroque architecture of the Manor, and explore the grounds of this legendary estate and landmark.

Complimentary on-site parking will be available, and tickets will cost £13 for concessions, £15 for adults and £8.50 for children, with family tickets also available at a price of £40 to cover up to two adults and three children. Under 2s will be allowed entry free of charge, and only support or guide dogs are permitted. A limited number of walk-in tickets will be available, but advance booking is strongly encouraged to guarantee a space.

£50M GRIMSBY REGENERATION

On the week that “I’ll never fall in love again” by Dionne Warwick was number one in the UK charts, a foundation stone was dedicated at the former Riverhead Centre, now known as Freshney Place in Grimsby Town Centre.

The copper time capsule, sealed by the Mayor of Grimsby, has been unearthed during the latest phase of demolition at Freshney Place, a timely reminder that while the town is embracing change, its history remains firmly in focus.

The capsule, found behind the Foundation Stone contained preserved local newspapers from 1969 and 1973, building plans, and a metal plate from one of the site contractors. Contractors GMI uncovered it while clearing the site of the former BHS building, part of the £50 million transformation of the western end of Freshney Place into a new leisure-led destination.

Cllr Philip Jackson, leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “Thanks to local historians and social media, we knew that a time capsule had also been buried at the foundation stone site, so contractors were looking out for it. It was found behind the foundation stone, in what would have been the BHS building.”

The recovered time capsule will be preserved and displayed locally, giving

residents the chance to connect with a moment in the town’s past, as they watch the next chapter of their town centre take shape through ambitious redevelopment plans.

The redevelopment of Freshney Place is a flagship project for the region, delivered in partnership between the council and strategically chosen specialists from the private sector that have a proven track record in regeneration.

Paul Sargent, Founder of Queensberry, development and asset manager for the project said: “The discovery of the time capsule has injected a real sense of community pride into this project. This is regeneration at its best - progressing on schedule, delivering major change, but with respect for the history and identity of the town. Meaningful development isn’t about wiping the slate clean— it’s about building the future on the foundations of the past – and providing the local community with a space that will meet its needs.”

The project is operating on schedule with structural clearance, including the removal of

the Bullring units and the former market hall now complete. Some recycled materials from the demolition will be used in the new foundations—an approach that blends heritage with sustainable construction practices.

The upgraded Freshney Place will offer day-to-night appeal, creating a contemporary destination that drives footfall and supports a vibrant local economy. The centrepiece of the scheme includes a new leisure anchor- a Parkway multi-screen cinema, a reinvented market hall along with a stylish, vibrant food and shopping venue - all designed to revitalise the town centre and position it as a leading destination within the region.

Paul Sargent continues: “For local authorities and investors, this project is a case study in how carefully curated partnerships can deliver effective placemaking. Understanding the council’s strategic vision and the needs of the local community have been fundamental to this scheme, and are critical for its long-term commercial success.”

VJ DAY: BOMBER RESEARCH TO INCLUDE FAR EAST LOSSES FOR FIRST TIME

The International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln has announced that the next phase of its research into losses sustained by RAF bomber crews will cover the Far Eastern theatre for the first time.

The news comes on the eve of the 80th anniversary of VJ (Victory over Japan) Day on 15th August and the end of the Second World War.

Bomber Command did not serve in the Far East during the Second World War, but Bomber Command aircraft and crews were assigned to a new unit called Tiger Force to provide long-range bombing support in the Allied advance against Japan.

Ultimately, this new force was never deployed, as the United States dropped

atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and Japan surrendered on 15th August 1945.

To fund the research and new memorials to the fallen, the IBCC is selling thousands of ceramic poppies arranged in the silhouette of a Lancaster Bomber to mark Victory in Europe (VE) Day and VJ Day this year.

The installation was created by Lithuanian artist Darius Sirmulevicius, who now lives in Lincolnshire, and proceeds from the sale of the poppies – each one unique – will go to the IBCC, Wooden Spoon

children’s rugby charity, British West India Regiments Heritage Trust and the RAF Benevolent Fund.

“Once the research on the Far Eastern theatre is complete, our Losses Database will have honoured and recorded every life lost in any of the Second World War bombing commands, including the Mediterranean theatre, 2 TAF and Command,” said Nicky van der Drift OBE, Chief Executive of the IBCC.

The stunning poppy display at the International Bomber Command Centre which was installed to mark the 80th anniversaries of VE and VJ Day.

“This will provide a huge additional resource not only for military historians and visitors to our site, but also for family history websites such as Ancestry.com, FindMyPast.com and The Genealogist.

“Eventually, our hope is to raise the funds needed to build further memorial walls, which would take the numbers commemorated to over 80,000.

“Buying a commemorative ceramic poppy is one way in which people can support our mission and make sure these brave men and women are remembered and honoured.”

A SEASON OF CHANGE

RETAIL IN SEPTEMBER

September always feels like a fresh start. The last of the summer sun lingers, but cooler evenings and golden leaves remind us that autumn is waiting just around the corner. It’s a month of gentle transition, and that sense of change often finds its way into the way we shop.

This is the time when wardrobes shift towards layers and cosy knits, when homes begin to welcome softer textures and warmer tones. Families settle back into routine after the holidays, and many of us take the chance to refresh – whether that means reorganising the house, updating everyday essentials, or treating ourselves to something that makes the shorter days feel brighter. September also carries a comforting sense of rhythm, nudging us back into balance after the carefree pace of summer.

Here in Lincolnshire, with its mix of longstanding traditions and fresh creativity, September shopping has a special flavour. Independent makers and local businesses sit alongside bigger names, giving us the chance to find pieces that feel thoughtful and unique. There’s a real appetite for quality and authenticity – items with a story, things made to last, and little touches that bring character to daily life. For many, shopping locally is also about connection: supporting communities and celebrating the individuality that makes this region distinctive.

For jewellers, September is the quiet beginning of a very romantic season. With

autumn engagements and festive proposals on the horizon, couples often use this time to start looking at rings and keepsakes. It’s a reminder that shopping isn’t just about practicality – it can also be about marking life’s most important moments and creating memories that will last for generations.

The season also invites us to rediscover the simple joys of browsing. Taking time to wander through shops, noticing the shift in window displays, and pausing to appreciate new collections can feel like a small ritual in itself. There’s comfort in those first signs of autumnal colour palettes, scented candles, or the arrival of transitional fashion – each one quietly signalling the year’s next chapter.

And while Christmas may still seem far away, there’s already

a sense of anticipation in the air. New collections appear, festive hints start to arrive, and the excitement slowly builds. September gives us a taste of what’s ahead, making each visit to the shops feel like a small step towards the celebrations to come.

Above all, the joy of shopping this month lies in possibility. It’s about embracing change, finding comfort in new textures and colours, and enjoying those little purchases that help us step into autumn with ease, optimism and a touch of seasonal magic.

eye-light®

O’Brien’s newly acquired eye-light® system is the latest thoroughly researched treatment for Dry Age-related Macular Disease

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the developed world. It predominantly affects individuals aged 60 and above. Estimates suggest that nearly 50 million people worldwide are affected by AMD. AMD is a

progressive eye disease that irreversibly impairs vision by damaging part of the retina, the light-sensitive area at the back of the eye. It is characterised by the gradual accumulation of drusen—tiny yellow or white deposits under the retina. Your optometrist can see the drusen when closely examining your eyes.

The eye-light uses yellow light (590 nm wavelength) which naturally inhibits the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). This signalling protein stimulates the formation of blood vessels, which contributes to the development of the wet form of AMD.

The eye-light uses red light (630nm wavelength) to promote electron transfer and oxygen binding, restoring mitochondrial function and increasing metabolic activity (i.e. energy production) and inhibiting inflammatory events and cell death.

If you have Dry AMD, please get in touch with our team to learn all about our eye-light and Valeda treatments. You can phone us or you can call in to book an early appointment or a preliminary consultation.

In 2022, O’Brien’s began to use Valeda light therapy for the treatment of Dry Age-related Macular Disease (Dry AMD). The system rapidly proved its worth, and many of our treated patients have been in touch to let us know how much their day-to-day lives have been enhanced.

Do you suffer from Dry Age-related Macular Disease?

Having treated Dry Age-related Macular Disease since 2022, O’Brien’s have become specialists in improving the sight of sufferers.

In addition to our well established Valeda therapy, we can now offer the new eye-light® therapy. Both therapies have been shown to improve sharpness of vision and to slow down the progression of the disease.

Even recognising faces can prove difficult. Until recently, there were no effective treatments for Dry AMD, the only suggestions being lifestyle changes or dietary supplements.

This breakthrough treatment is known as photobiomodulation (PBM) using a device called Valeda. It uses light to stimulate the centre of vision by energising and encouraging the production of oxygen for cell repair and has been used extensively by ophthalmologists and optometrists across the UK, Europe, and around the world.

For many years, there was no effective treatment for Dry AMD. Now, sufferers will be delighted to learn that a newly developed treatment is available locally here in Brigg. It is a safe, non-invasive, painless therapy that is CE and UKCAmarked and fully approved under European and UK directives.

Results from extensive monitored trials of the therapy show that for many Dry AMD sufferers, there can be an improvement in sharpness of vision and the latest study from the LIGHTSITE III Clinical Trials showed over 67% of patients gained five or more letters on the sight chart, and over 20% gained 10 or more letters! Data from the 24-month analysis showed significant improvements in binocular visual acuity which were sustained throughout the study.

The results after PBM treatment suggest positive effects, delaying and reducing progression to the advanced stage of Dry AMD which is known as geographic atrophy. Valeda PBM is also indicated for the treatment of ocular damage and disease, including the deposition of drusen.

BRINGING AUTUMN INDOORS

As autumn arrives, refresh your interiors with cosy textures, warm colours and seasonal details. From soft furnishings to subtle décor, create a welcoming sanctuary that celebrates comfort and seasonal charm.

There’s something special about the way autumn transforms the home. As the days grow shorter and the evenings cooler, we naturally seek comfort, warmth and a touch of seasonal charm indoors. September is the perfect time to refresh living spaces, blending practicality with style to create a sanctuary that feels inviting.

One of the simplest ways to embrace the season is through soft furnishings. Cushions in rich shades of burnt orange, deep green or russet instantly bring warmth, while textured throws add layers of comfort. Bedding can also be updated for cooler nights, with heavier fabrics and autumnal hues offering both style and practicality. A simple change of cushion covers or the addition of a single statement throw can instantly transform the mood of a

room without the need for a full redesign.

Lighting plays an equally important role in setting the mood. As natural daylight fades earlier, adding warm-toned lamps, fairy lights or even candles helps to create a cosy, atmospheric glow. Scented candles in autumn fragrances – think spiced apple, cinnamon or pumpkin – provide a sensory reminder of the season’s pleasures. For those who enjoy a touch of drama, lanterns or hurricane lamps can add both style and substance, casting flickering light that feels instantly comforting.

Kitchens, too, can enjoy subtle seasonal touches. Rustic mugs, autumn-inspired crockery and simple table settings can make even everyday meals feel special.

A display of mini pumpkins or a vase of seasonal flowers on the dining table offers a natural, understated nod to autumn without overwhelming the space.

Finally, don’t overlook the small details. A wreath on the door, an arrangement of dried grasses, or a few decorative pumpkins on a windowsill all bring character and warmth. These little touches not only reflect the changing season but also help create a home that feels ready for the cosy months ahead.

Embracing autumn indoors is about more than decoration – it’s about atmosphere, comfort and celebrating the beauty of the season within the spaces where we spend the most time.

WARMING UP FOR AUTUMN

Add warmth and character to your home with cosy cushions, autumn bedding and pumpkinshaped mugs, plus playful Halloween touches to bring festive charm into every room.

As the nights draw in, it’s the perfect time to add warmth and seasonal charm to your home. Think soft cushions, layered bedding, rustic mugs and autumnal tones. And with Halloween just around the corner, a few playful touches will bring a hint of festive fun to your décor. Pumpkin-shaped mugs are a cosy way to enjoy your favourite hot drinks, while cushions in earthy shades and soft textures add comfort to living spaces. Together, these little updates create a home that feels both welcoming and wonderfully in tune with the season.

CREATIVE FENCING IDEAS TO TRANSFORM YOUR GARDEN

Fencing is often seen as a purely practical element in a garden - providing privacy, marking boundaries, or keeping pets and children safe. But with a little imagination, fencing can become a design feature in its own right, enhancing the style and atmosphere of your outdoor space. Whether you’re looking to add character, define different areas, or inject some colour, here are some creative fencing ideas to inspire your next garden project.

1. SLATTED SCREENS FOR A CONTEMPORARY LOOK

Horizontal slatted fencing is a popular choice for modern gardens. The clean lines and subtle gaps between boards create a sleek, airy look that provides privacy without feeling closed-in. You can use natural timber for a warm, Scandinavian feel, or paint it charcoal grey or black for a bold, architectural statement. Slatted panels also work well as dividers within the garden, subtly screening utility areas or breaking up zones.

2. MIX MATERIALS FOR TEXTURE AND INTEREST

Combining materials such as wood, metal, and stone can create a striking contrast and elevate your fencing into a design feature. Try incorporating Corten steel panels, wire mesh, or even reclaimed materials for a rustic or industrial touch. Using a mix of textures adds depth and character, especially in minimalist or urban spaces.

3. LIVING FENCES AND GREEN SCREENS

Why not let nature do the work? A living fence—made from trained plants or hedging—can provide privacy and beauty all in one. Fast-growing climbers like clematis, honeysuckle, or jasmine can be trained onto trellis panels, creating a soft, fragrant barrier. For a more structured look, pleached trees or espaliered fruit trees offer a green fence with a formal twist.

4. PAINTED PANELS FOR A POP OF COLOUR

A coat of paint can completely transform a tired fence. Choose colours that complement your planting scheme— sage greens and soft blues work well in cottage gardens, while bold tones like teal, mustard, or deep plum can make a dramatic statement. You can even use fence panels as

a backdrop for a garden mural or geometric design to add a playful touch.

5. DECORATIVE PANELS AND CUT-OUT DESIGNS

Laser-cut metal screens or panels with decorative patterns are a fantastic way to add an artistic element to your fencing. These can be used as focal points or to frame certain views within the garden. At night, they can create beautiful shadow patterns when backlit.

Fencing doesn’t have to be an afterthought—it can be an integral part of your garden’s personality. With a bit of creativity, even the most practical boundary can become a beautiful feature. Contact us today to find out how we can assist you with your garden project.

BRITISH GARDEN CENTRES TURNS

From a single site in Woodthorpe, Lincolnshire, in 1990, British Garden Centres’ phenomenal growth has continued with the announcement of major acquisitions this year, making them the largest family-run garden centre group by stores in the country.

2025 marks a special milestone for the company as it celebrates its 35th anniversary. From opening that first site in Woodthorpe back in 1990 to becoming a nationally recognised brand while keeping its headquarters firmly in Lincolnshire, the anniversary is a moment of reflection and pride for the Stubbs family and the thousands of colleagues who have contributed to its journey.

Securing the former Dobbies sites at Shinfield, Gloucester, Gosforth, Heighley Gate, Rugby, Havant, and Northampton, then Hayes Garden World in the Lakes marks the latest expansion for the now UK-wide business, and this Lincolnshiregrown success story shows no sign of slowing down. These additions brought the company’s portfolio to an impressive 73 garden retail sites across the UK, a testament to its incredible journey from its Lincolnshire roots, 35 years ago.

A FAMILY LEGACY

The phenomenal growth of British Garden Centres since its humble beginnings in 1990 is a testament to the power of family, a hard-working team, and a deep-rooted passion for gardening.

Charles Stubbs and his brother displayed an entrepreneurial spirit as teenagers by selling plant cuttings outside Woodthorpe Hall. Over the years, the brothers’ reputation grew far and wide. They were featured on the local news program Calendar for their entrepreneurial skills.

This early venture laid the foundation for what would become a thriving national business that has now become the UK’s largest garden centre group by number of stores. Charles, together with Robert and Phillippa, developed a business that expanded from a single garden centre near their home to the flagship Brigg Garden Centre. This growth transformed their venture into Britain’s largest garden centre group, which increased from 10 locations in 2018 to 73 in 2025, with five of those being in Lincolnshire (Woodthorpe, Brigg, Louth, Chapel, Horncastle).

As Woodthorpe Garden Centre turns 35 and Brigg Garden Centre reaches its 25th birthday this year, celebrations honour their place at the heart of the local community and their role as one of Lincolnshire’s most visited and best-loved destinations. Longtime customers, dedicated staff, and local organisations will come together to mark the occasion.

THE NEXT CHAPTER

As the number of centres has grown, so too

has our team. One of the things we’re most proud of is that we remain an independent, family-run business. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see the next generation of the Stubbs step up to roles within the business and bring fresh and engaging ideas to grow the group further.

The family is proud to see the next generation stepping into key roles at British Garden Centres. This summer, at just 26 years old, Amy Stubbs proudly stepped into the role of Managing Director, becoming the youngest leader in British Garden Centres’ 35 year legacy. With extensive hands-on experience across the business, Amy brings a fresh, modern vision deeply rooted in Lincolnshire’s family values. Her dynamic leadership is set to drive growth, enhance the customer experience, and further strengthen the company’s strong family community ethos as the next generation takes the helm and continues to grow the UK’s largest familyowned garden centre group.

The team continues to grow from strength to strength, now employing over 3000 people, a far cry from the handful that started in Woodthorpe in Lincolnshire. All of our staff, whether they be at the head office in Brigg or on the shop floor, are passionate and knowledgeable about the plants and gardenware that we sell.

British Garden Centres is growing more of its own plants than ever before across its nursery sites. This focus on homegrown means the group can offer customers the very best in UK-grown quality, alongside our wide choice of gardening and home essentials.

The 73 centre strong group continues to invest in its sites and continues improvement in customer experience, recognising the importance of staying ahead of the curve in a competitive retail market, and differentiating itself from the high street offering.

Looking to the future, British Garden Centres remains committed to its core values of quality, family, and embedding itself in the community it serves. The centres actively engage with residents, supporting local charities and schools and becoming hubs for those around them.

As the business continues to evolve and adapt to the changing retail landscape, the Stubbs family and British Garden Centres team remain dedicated to providing a unique and enjoyable experience for every customer, ensuring that the passion for gardening and the family ethos remain at the heart of the business for generations to come.

Charles Stubbs commented: “From a small seed starting in our home in Lincolnshire, we’ve watched British Garden Centres blossom into something truly special and become the largest garden centre operator in the UK. Our family values drive us to deliver exceptional gardening shopping stores in all of our centres. Seeing the next generation take the reins fills me with immense pride, and I’m excited to see what the future holds as we continue to nurture and grow the passion for one of the country’s favourite hobbies.”

Amy Stubbs, Managing Director at British Garden Centres added: “I am proud to step up as Managing Director at British Garden Centres and honoured to continue our family’s legacy. It’s a privilege to lead our fantastic team as we build on 35 years of success, rooted deeply in Lincolnshire values. I look forward to driving growth, enhancing the customer experience, and strengthening the family commitment that has made us the UK’s largest garden centre group.”

As British Garden Centres continues to grow and evolve, Lincolnshire remains at the very heart of the business. It’s where the Stubbs’ journey began and where the business’ deepest roots hold firm as it looks to the future.

LINCOLN DRIVERS ENCOURAGED TO GO ELECTRIC WITH NEW GRANT FROM LOCAL CAR RETAILER

A local car retailer is helping Lincoln drivers make the switch to electric with a new grant offering up to £1,500 off one of its most award-winning models.

Stoneacre Lincoln, based on Lincoln Fields, has launched the initiative to support the growing demand for electric vehicles and make sustainable driving more accessible to motorists across the region.

The grant can be applied to any new model of the Volvo EX30, Volvo’s smallest-ever fully electric SUV. Designed with both safety and sustainability in mind, the EX30 is built using recycled materials and boasts the lowest CO 2 footprint of any Volvo to date, thanks to its innovative pure-electric platform.

The £1,500 grant is available immediately and can be redeemed across cash purchases, Volvo loans, and PCP finance options, making it easier than ever for Lincoln drivers to embrace electric mobility.

This local initiative comes in response to the UK Government’s recently announced

Electric Car Grant scheme, which aims to accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles. While Volvo Car UK awaits confirmation of its application to the scheme, the retailer has introduced its own self-funded grant to ensure local customers don’t have to wait to benefit.

The grant underlines Volvo’s commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable future—offering practical, progressive solutions for local motorists ready to take the next step toward zero-emission driving.

Andy McInnes, Business Manager at Stoneacre Lincoln, said: “We’re proud to help drive the charge toward electrification here in Lincoln with this new £1,500 grant that can be used when purchasing the Volvo EX30 – one of the most innovative and sustainable vehicles we’ve ever offered.

“As demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, it’s important we make the transition as accessible and rewarding as possible. By introducing this grant, we’re helping drivers take that next step toward a zero-emission future, giving our community the opportunity to lead the charge towards cleaner, greener driving.

“I’d encourage Lincoln drivers to visit Stoneacre Lincoln to learn more about the initiative and the Volvo EX30, see the model’s capabilities first-hand, and to chat to our friendly team of experts about switching to electric.”
