April 2025

Daylight Saving has changed our days to becoming darker earlier in the evenings now, we have even had the fire on quite a bit lately. Some changes at the top table for the meeting in March with Gary and Sue away Martin Dodge and Paul McNabb ably filled the chairs. We hope that Gary is recovering well from his knee replacement surgery.

Paul gave a report on the trip to the Model A event Kaye and he completed, coming home with a well-deserved Trophy for Best in Show. An excellent article in the paper appeared but some accolades for Kaye need mentioned too.

Neville King showed a video of the Moped Run to Kaka Point in 2004 with 15 bikes taking part and many supporters also. Wonderful footage of some Club history. A mounted Otago Rally Plaque 1948 – 1998 has been donated to the Club. One never knows what will appear at a local Charity Shop. It features 3 sheep, 3 stars and a wheat sheaf. A nice addition to the Clubrooms.

April Wednesday Run Report.

Allison Ollerenshaw was the route organiser for the outing this month. Vehicles travelled towards Clinton on SH1 turning at Dodd’s Road to take them on to Owaka. Chairman Robin and Neville were happily chatting away and missed a turn so had to back track for a while to arrive at the Owaka Tavern for their cuppa. 12 people took part. Thankyou Allison for organising the outing.

Wednesday Run – 7th May Meet at the Clubrooms at 1.30 p.m.

Destination to be advised on the day. A possible visit to the Clutha Views Car Park for some residents to take a look but not confirmed at this stage.

A shortage of reports or stories this month so thought some wee treasures of Milton history from the Museum may be of interest. A recently donated silver Tea Service on display is identified as Chester 1905. This was presented to Mrs Elizabeth Reid, wife of James Reid, Rector of Tokomairiro District High School, by her friends in 1906. Upon James’ retirement he was presented with a writing slope.

This beautiful two piece gown was worn for a wedding in the 1860’s. It is on display at the Milton Museum for a short time and creating a lot of interest. Our pioneer ladies were certainly elegant. The back features a bustle.

ANZAC memorabilia is also on display at present.

This is a picture of the vehicle Stewart Allison travelled to High School in way back in the 1940’s era. People in the picture unidentified. It was a WW1 vehicle and the children called it the Monkey Bus. The children of today certainly have a different ride.

Advance Notice – Milton Book Sale is coming up on 18th May in the Coronation Hall, Union Street. 9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Refreshments will be available from the Lovells Flat Women’s Institute members.

What an enormous event took place with the Wanaka Wheels held at Easter.

Chairman Robin is a regular attendee enjoying all there was to see even though the weather was a little inclement. A real credit to the organisers, several people visited the Milton Museum on their way home on Easter Monday relating their experience there.
