FROM THE EDITOR
Bryan and I attended the AGM in Invercargill recently. I number of reports have been posted on the notice board for your viewing. Please leave them there for others to read as well.
Congratulations to Elizabeth Smits on receiving the Goddard Trophy for her and Fred’s (deceased) world travels in their Mercedes. She gave an interesting presentation on their travels but unfortunately it was cut short as time was limited.
Daffodil deliveries Monday 25
th
Thank you to the eleven drivers and runners who came out and delivered preordered daffodils to the many businesses and individuals around the city and Mosgiel on Monday. Once again your efforts were really appreciated by the local Cancer Society Team. Many of you have done this in the past so it was good to be able to allocate the same areas to you, so that you are familiar with the places you need to deliver too.
This year the numbers were down but still a good number in each section to make the deliveries worthwhile.
Colin and Jo Good on you for wearing your daffodil costumes today as well. Colin and Judy came out in their Wolseley again this year.
Continued from pg 17 vehicles (1919 and older), and special terms and requirements for historic military and agricultural vehicles.
We have a working team developing these specific proposals in association with the specific-interest clubs and we will energetically pursue these matters with NZTA and the Minister in the weeks ahead.
Our sincere thanks and appreciation to all Federation clubs and all individual members for your support, contribution and your efforts on this journey!
Not only are the July 31 announcements a great result for all of us, they are a great incentive for all of us to continue our efforts to strengthen our sectors of interest, and our passion for the vehicles we love.
Sincerely
Garry Jackson

Well, the months are moving fast but the cold still bites. However, we keep on looking ahead to better times. With spring comes a lot more activity in our motoring and now with twelve month warrants things get a little easier. This month I attended the National AGM and Executive Meeting at the Ascot Park Hotel in Invercargill, where the business was done and the results of the National vote on the Constitution was announced at an eighty six percent pass, which was good but not good. The percentage gave us a pass but disappoint that so many members went against it, probably many misinformed.
As I write this the Daffodil Rally for Cancer celebrations are upon us and coming up as are many more rally’s and projects. Just keep up with the Roadrunner and fill your diary and now I have to start getting cars out and get some WOF’s

From your Branch Secretary
Graeme and I are just back from the National AGM and Exec meeting hosted by the Southland branch. For those able to travel down to Invercargill earlier, there was the option of arriving on the Thursday to take the opportunity before the meeting to visit the collections at Transport World, Motorcycle Mecca and E Hayes and Sons. Dinner on the Thursday night was a “pea, pie and spud” night at the club rooms. This was a lovely relaxing start before what was a full on, and at times, contentious meeting. It was pleasing to see that more members overall, and in particular from our branch, took the opportunity to cast their vote on the proposed National Constitution. The vote was passed with an 86% majority so now it is time to work on the proposed bylaws and the job description for the new Regional Representative positions. The new structure is a different way of managing the club and will take time to embed. In the past not all branches have had the opportunity to have a say at a national level as they have not sent a delegate to the national meetings whereas the new structure allows all 36 branches to have a say, albeit predominately through their regional representative, and on a more frequent basis than only twice a year. Like anything new, there are bound to be teething issues however if all branches work together, we can make it work.
2025/2026
Subscriptions
Invoices for the 2025/2026 financial year are due at end of August. If you have not received yours by the 15th of September, please urgently contact National Office.
South Island Easter Rally 2027- our bid for hosting the next South Island Easter Rally has been accepted so now it is time to start the initial planning. A couple of members have already volunteered to look at possible route options however we will also need help with the field tests and marshalling. Please let me know if you are interested.
Branch events – we still need organisers for some branch events for the coming year. Please give this some thought and let me know if you are able to help or put your name on the list on the notice board. Without an organiser, the event runs the risk of being cancelled.
Vero Insurance
The VCC Vero scheme is solely for financial members and the discount we enjoy ceases when your membership is cancelled either through non-payment of subs, resignation or death. National Office can arrange for it to be transferred to a joint member, so the simplest way to continue receiving the discount is to add your spouse to your membership. This means that in the unfortunate event of the main member passing, the surviving spouse has time to decide what to do without worrying about the
President's Personal Message Vehicle Standards Compliance
Amendment (2025)12 Month WoF & CoF
16th August 2025
As we reflect on the Government’s announcements of 2 weeks ago regarding 12-month WoF’s for vehicles 40 years and older, and 12-month CoF’s for privately owned motorhomes, I believe it is timely to communicate a few key messages, concurrent with the comments that I shared last weekend at the national AGM of the Vintage Car Club of NZ in Invercargill.
From my role and perspective as your President, I think there are four key points that underpin what has been achieved, and its significance. In no special sequence they are:
1. The fact that so many clubs responded to the call for submissions, and making our collective voices heard ….. over 13000 individual submissions (and approximately 97% in favour) was a wonderful demonstration of people power across our sectors.
2. The 2024 NZ Historic and Classic Vehicle Research Survey that quantified the scale and strength of our overall sector, including the headline figure of our $16.5 Billion economic footprint. In my view, this credible and substantial piece of work has reinforced our efforts and results more than we have probably realised.
3. The efforts we have put into our relationships with both NZTA and Government Ministers
Our collective persistence … whilst the announcements of July 31 were the result of specific work over the past six years and intensified in the last 18 months, the actual journey dates back 22 years, and the initial (and substantial) work of VCC identity Rod Brayshaw and his initial proposals to NZTA for annual WoF’s in 2003! I had the pleasure of meeting Rod at the VCC AGM, and we shared stories and swapped notes!
Over and above the July 31 announcements, the Federation will keep working on two specific aspects that are still under review and were signalled in the Federation’s comprehensive submission, namely a longer WoF period (ie more than 12 months) for the small but important number of veteran

Obituary - Margaret Drummond
It is with great sadness that we advise that Margaret passed away peacefully last weekend. Margaret joined the club in 1993, 2 years after Alistair and was a familiar face around the club rooms and on branch events.
Margaret had been battling with illness over the past few years however always was willing to help with the timing section on the Dunedin - Brighton Veteran Rally each year & you could count on both her and Alistair being at the end of the time section in Brighton to time the vehicles as they drove through.
She was a pivotal part of the Ladies Group which during the 1990’s organised a lot of fundraising activities to help raise funds for the many chattels now in place at our clubrooms. They catered for Taieri Tour Dinners, Autospectacular food stalls, baking stalls, garage sales to name a few. She also got involved with organising various motoring events for the branch. The biggest being the National Veteran Rally in 2004 which incorporated the 50th Dunedin Brighton Rally. This bought 100 cars and their owners to the city. Thank you to Margaret for her enthusiasm and commitment over those years. We extend our sympathy and thoughts to Alistair and Margaret’s family at this time.
Rally for Cancer - Sunday 24th August
What an amazing day. With clear blue skies, no wind, a good number of vehicles ranging in age from 1920’s Model T’s to the latest Ford Ranger arrived at Dunedin City Ford for the afternoon. Some enthusiastic entrants arrived before we were properly set up for the event, but they were patient. Vehicles were sent off on a run via the Marne Street Rest Home (sadly the residents were in Lockdown, so unable to come out an enjoy watching all the cars driving past) then over the high road to Portobello and returning via the low road. There were people out enjoying the day at all the villages, beaches and cafes along the way. Back at Dunedin Dunedin City Ford approximately 140 vehicles and bikes parked up for a public display, giving everyone a chance to look over all those machines and catch up with friends. The local rugby club put on a sausage sizzle for a gold coin donation and the Coffee Cart and Ice cream truck did a roaring trade as well. Thanks to Dunedin City Ford for emptying out your sales yard, so that we could utilize this space.
Thank you, all our members who came, out and supported this event either by going for a ride or assisting with marshalling the vehicles to their parking spots. Whether it was the weather or the location – this year appeared to bring out a lot more participants which was great to see and much appreciated. All your donations will be going to the Otago Cancer Society so they can continue to provide the support to patients and their families throughout their Cancer journeys. .
