October draws to an end with the usual variable weather patterns we have been experiencing moving into summer albeit rather extreme this year. We hope everyone is well and keeping warm.
The month we had a quiz night well run by John Gale and I am assured by those who attended there were ample chocolate fish distributed throughout the evening.
Lee and I were in the North Island for a week and a half enjoying a trip to Wellington, Train through to Auckland and a trip around the Coromandel.
Work continues with planning the Swap meet for 15th November and the Windsor rally 6th December. Application forms for both events are out and Lee is handling these.
Stephen Hinds has once again volunteered to man the swap meet gate and we will be looking for others to support him. Planning for the day is running pretty smoothly to date with quite a few sites booked already. Wes Hamilton has also donated a Gazebo for the clubs use. We will need a calm day to test the erecting of said Gazebo prior to the swap meet just to ensure there is little panic on the day.
Windsor planning is still coming together with the venue costings and some other smaller details still to be confirmed Last Saturday we held the Tea Pot rally in conjunction with the Waimate branch, see separate report.

Our car club had a very successful day with the rally We Wonder Willie. We went up to the twin bridges at Kurow for a picnic and had a social meeting.
On the way there we had a rally up the back of Enfield and over to Georgetown then on to Kurow.
After lunch we went on a trip down to Duntroon, turned off over the bridge at Duntroon over to Livingston. On to Tokarahi and back tour club rooms for tea & coffee with socialising.
Club night is on the 5th of November 7:30pm. Please bring a plate. We are planning to have a bingo night.
Committee night is on the 19th of November.
Remember the Swap meet on the 15th November, Christmas parade on the 28th November. The Windsor rally is not far away. This will finish at Clarks mill for afternoon tea & coffee.

For October's mid month John Gale had sorted a route that took us through the back roads to Seven Mile road to SHW1 and up the highway to " Riverstone Cafe " for our coffee, cake and yarn session. A great destination with lots see, with their various shops, gardens and grounds and the amazing Castle.
Thank you John.

The Tea Pot Rally was run last Saturday the 25th, thanks to all those who turned out to what was a good day with the weather playing its part as long as you stayed out of the wind in Kurow. (Still a little cool).
Sara Miller and Phil Berry did a great job in setting up the actual run and a series of questions based around T (tea). From the feedback I received the day went off very well. The run from Kurow to the club rooms involved a few stretches of gravel although there were alternate routes for these parts. Once everyone returned to the club rooms and finished afternoon tea we held the prise giving.
The answers to the quiz were tallied and in the end there was a clear winner, Ross Brown from Waimate Branch who now inherits the dubious honour of organising next year’s rally. I am sure his fellow members will rally to his support in ensuring another successful event. Well done Ross.

We all so had two contenders for the hard luck trophy, Barry Anderson (Waimate) on his 650 BSA gold flash which decided to have a couple of rests on the way up the valley, probably fuel and myself with the 6/90 having a boil up just past the rock drawings. Saved by a Morris Minor carrying spare water, thanks Steve. Oh the ignominy. As both of us got back down the valley without incident it was technically a draw but I was handing out the trophy so Barry won. I am sure he will get me back some time in the future.

On a sad note, earlier last month we lost Verna Chambers, a long time club member whose declining health meant she has not been involved in club activities in the last few years. When active Verna immersed herself in organising midmonth runs along with other events. In line with Verna’s wishes there was no funeral. Close friend Alison Ludiman organised an afternoon tea at our club rooms Friday 26th of September to remember her life instead.
