Secretary’s Scribblings Here we are at the start of the New Year and if 2022 goes as fast as 2021 it will be Christmas before we know it!! We had our first Committee meeting on Wednesday 5 th January. It is noted that Tony Pyne and Lyn Millard had passed away since our last meeting, and we offer our sincere condolences to both Lorraine and Roger and their families. We had a great run to the Langley Dale homestead in December and was given a letter written in 1859 by a staff member 68 years later. This is included in this Viewpoint. Remember the run to Barnes’s at Anikiwa on 30th January. Please bring a salad to share with the sausages which will be BBQed on the day. The wicker side chair on the motorbike in the museum was in a very sad state. It has now been strengthened and put back on the bike so thanks to those involved in this project. As you will have seen, the old retaining wall on the South side of the clubrooms has been removed. Your committee has decided that this will not be rebuilt, but the bank will be battered and shaped back, and the soil will be spread around areas on Patchetts Green where it is needed, and plants will be put on this area. You would have had notification about the Covid settings for the Redman Room. Your committee decided in December that members need a vaccination certificate for this room, so you need to be vaccinated to be able to enter that area of our facilities. Heritage Day is on again on Waitangi Day. We will be doing our famous Bacon and Egg Butties and the kitchen will be offering smokos and lunches. So, help is needed in these areas, along with baking to sell from the kitchen. Four people are also needed for an hour to man the barriers and to help with car parking. On 24th December those of you on email would have received an email from VCC National Office with a presentation about the revised proposed change of LOGO. If you haven’t watched it, please do so and send comments to me so that these can be presented at the Executive meeting in March. If you can’t find it, click on the link here. https://vcc.org.nz/brand/ We will look at showing this at a Smoko or Noggin and Natter. Our Branch will be organising the Biennial Rally in October where we combine with Nelson branch. Anyone with suggestions of routes or places to see please let us know your ideas. Good luck to those Branch members who are attending the Vero Rally in New Plymouth in a weeks’ time. I hope you all have a great time away.
