SK unveils first Doctor of Medicine program, grants scholarships to students by
JANICA TATEL
Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) has made history with the inauguration of its first Doctor of Medicine marking a significant breakthrough in medical education for the province of Sultan Kudarat.
This initiative, supported by the Provincial Government of Sultan Kudarat (PGSK), provides scholarships and financial aid to deserving students, including former Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) students of Isulan National High School (INHS).
In his speech, Governor Datu Pax Ali S. Mangudadatu committed full support by offering free education to the 27 initial enrollees of the program, alongside a Php 10,000 monthly stipend to cover living expenses.
Among the recipients of these scholarships are former STEM students of INHS, who have long aspired to pursue medical careers but faced financial constraints.
“Their selection for the program reflects not only their academic excellence but also the growing impact of INHS in producing top-tier graduates ready for higher education in science and medicine,” Dr. Lorely Anne F. Valencia, the INHS principal said.
The Doctor of Medicine program is a result of extensive collaboration between SKSU and PGSK, backed by House Bill 6771, which was authored by Hon. Bai Rihan Sakaluran and sponsored by congressional representatives. The program received approval from CHED through Commission en Banc Resolution 633-2024.

DepEd defends Sex Education Framework, INHS advocates amid family and religious groups’ opposition
by GOLDY GREGORIO
The Department of Education (DepEd) is standing firm on its Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) framework despite mounting opposition from family and religious groups, asserting that the program is crucial in addressing pressing social issues such as teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence.
In Isulan National High School (INHS), educators and student leaders continue to advocate for CSE’s implementation, emphasizing its role in equipping learners with essential knowledge about their bodies, relationships, and reproductive health.
Despite resistance from conservative groups, they believe that withholding this information could lead to misinformation and unintended consequences among the youth.
TEENAGE PREGNANCY: A
GROWING CONCERN One of the driving factors behind CSE implementation
is the persistent issue of teenage pregnancy in the Philippines. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, teenage pregnancy among Filipino women aged 15 to 19 declined from 8.6% in 2017 to 5.4% in 2022. However, alarming figures still persist, with 3,135 adolescent girls younger than 15 years old giving birth in 2022—a staggering 35.13%
increase from 2021.
The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) has identified teenage pregnancy as a “national social emergency,” citing its economic and social consequences.
Early pregnancies often lead to school dropouts, financial struggles, and health risks for both mother and child.
INHS STRONG ADVOCACY FOR CSE
In a survey conducted by
the The Sunbeams, it found out that 7 out 10 teachers are in favor of the Comprehensive Sex Education Program.
Principal Dr. Lorely Anne F. Valencia affirmed the school’s commitment to implementing the program, believing that CSE is vital in preparing students for responsible decision-making.
“Our goal is to provide factual, science-based education that empowers students to make informed choices. The misinformation surrounding this program does a disservice to our youth, who deserve proper guidance,” Dr. Valencia stated.
SHS studs donate blood to Red Cross, promote civic duty
by JANICA TATEL
Senior High School students of Isulan National High School (INHS) showed their commitment to civic duty by participating in a bloodletting campaign organized by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).
The initiative, aimed at addressing the critical shortage of blood supply in Sultan Kudarat, gathered 15 bags of life-saving blood from the students.
Among the donors was Grade 11 HUMSS student Maria Celina Garcia, who expressed her reasons for participating in the drive. “I feel proud to be able to help others in need. Donating blood is such a simple way

Late-Night activities lead to students’ tardiness, Barangays enforce stricter curfews
The rise in late-night activities has been identified as a major fact contributing to the increasing tardiness of students in Isulan National High School (INHS), prompting local barangays, including Kalawag I, Kalawag II, and Kalawag III, to implement stricter curfew regulations.
According to the report in the disciplinarian office, the data revealed that internet cafes, social gatherings, and late-night study sessions have become common pastimes for many students, often keeping them out late and contributing to their inability to arrive at school on time.
RISING TARDINESS
Reports from the school show a noticeable spike in tardiness, particularly among Senior High School students, with approximately 45% of them arriving late each morning.
The school’s administration has responded by implementing a strict policy that locks the school gates at exactly 7:30 AM, with latecomers allowed to enter only during afternoon classes before 1:00 PM.
Dr. Lorely Anne F. Valencia, the principal of INHS, emphasized the need for this measure to ensure that students adhere to their schedules.
“We noticed a significant disruption in the learning process due to frequent tardiness. The new rule was implemented to help students prioritize their education and be punctual,” Dr. Valencia stated.
STRICTER CURFEWS
In response to the growing issue, the Local Government Units of Isulan, along with barangay officials from Kalawag I, Kalawag II, and Kalawag III, have intensified curfew enforcement.
The municipality of Isulan enacted Municipal Ordinance No. 2023-12, which imposes a curfew for minors
from 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM.
Barangay officials have been working closely with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to ensure that minors adhere to the curfew.
Kalawag I Barangay Chairman Bryan E. Ayco shared, “We’ve been actively working with the PNP to ensure students are not out late, and we’ve increased patrols during curfew hours to keep them accountable.”
STAKEHOLDER REACTIONS
The stricter curfews have drawn mixed reactions from the community. Many parents have expressed their support for the measure. “My son used to stay out late playing games with friends. Now, he’s in bed earlier and more prepared for school,” shared Nimfa Camagong, a parent of a Grade 12 student.
However, students have voiced concerns about the restrictions, particularly those with evening extracurricular activities or group study sessions. “Not all late-night activities are unproductive.
“The curfew makes it harder for us to attend study groups after school,” Jeffrey Intal said a senior high school student.
Barangay officials acknowledge the challenges, emphasizing the need for balance and continued dialogue with students and parents to refine the policy.
highlighted the region’s pressing need for blood donations, especially during the holiday season when accidents and illnesses often increase.
According to the Department of Health Regional Blood Center, Mindanao requires at least 140 bags of blood daily. Randal Angob, donor recruitment officer of the Department of Health-7,
emphasized the importance of school-based blood donation drives.
“The 15 bags we collected from MCC will go a long way. Each bag, containing 450 cc of blood, can save multiple lives as the blood is separated into red blood cells, plasma, and platelets for medical use,” he explained.

Science teachers at INHS play a crucial role in delivering CSE-related topics, ensuring that discussions remain informative yet sensitive to cultural values.
One of the school’s Science teachers, who preferred to remain anonymous, stressed the importance of delivering CSE through an educational lens rather than allowing students to rely on unverified sources.

SK achieves 96.8% employment rate
by JANICA AMBER TATEL
The province of Sultan Kudarat has achieved an employment rate of 96.8% in 2024, reflecting significant economic progress and contributing to Region 12's standing as one of the regions with the highest employment rates in the country.

A survey conducted by The Sunbeams revealed that
Region 12, which includes Sultan Kudarat, recorded a 96.8% employment rate in November 2024, according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Governor Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu attributed this achievement to the province's proactive measures, such as job fairs and skills training programs, aimed at reducing unemployment.
“This milestone showcases the dedication of our people and the effectiveness of our initiatives. We remain committed to fostering opportunities for every citizen,” Mangudadatu said.
One of the notable initiatives

Over the weekend, the Department of Labor and Employment-SOCCSKSARGEN (DOLE-12) and the office of Sultan Kudarat Representative facilitated a cash payout for 1,863 beneficiaries from the municipalities of Isulan, Lambayong, President Quirino, and Tacurong City.
Each beneficiary received a Php 7,360 cash grant for completing 20 days of community-
“Many students learn about reproductive health through social media and hearsay, which can be misleading. Our role as educators is to give them accurate, research-backed information,” the teacher said.
RELIGIOUS AND FAMILY GROUPS EXPRESS OPPOSITION
DepEd Order No. 31, s. 2018, serves as the policy guideline for the implementation of CSE in public and private elementary and secondary schools across the country.
Despite DepEd’s assurances, religious organizations and family groups remain steadfast in their opposition. A local parish church coordinator voiced concerns over the morality of teaching sexual education at a young age.
“We acknowledge the importance of education, but sex education should be primarily the responsibility of parents. The school’s role should focus on academic subjects while instilling moral values. Exposing young students to these topics may encourage risky behavior instead of preventing it,” the parish representative said.
Some parents and faithbased organizations have pushed for stricter oversight of the CSE curriculum, advocating for more parental involvement in the discussion of sensitive topics.
STUDENT LEADERS AND ALUMNI SPEAK OUT
Student leaders at INHS, however, have expressed strong support for CSE, arguing that proper education is key to preventing early pregnancies and unsafe sexual practices.
Arnie Waje, President of the Supreme Student Learner Government (SSLG), emphasized that access to accurate information helps students make responsible choices.
“We, the students, appreciate the openness of our teachers and school leaders in discussing these topics. It’s empowering to have knowledge about our bodies and relationships, rather than being left in the dark,” Waje shared.
Meanwhile, INHS Alumni Association President Masterzeus Castillo backed the program, stating that CSE is essential in today’s society.

DOLE-12 Director Joel Gonzales emphasized the program’s role in poverty reduction and economic growth.
“We hope that the payout will also somehow help improve the province's economy by empowering 1,863 families through TUPAD,” he said.

Despite these positive developments, challenges remain. The underemployment rate in Region 12 was estimated at 25.2% in October 2023, a slight decrease from 27.1% in October 2022.
Additionally, the labor force participation rate has seen fluctuations, indicating the need for continued efforts to engage the working-age population.

Securing Tomorrow
Typhoon Kristine devastated areas under storm signal number 4, destroying homes and disrupting livelihoods. This stresses the need for a shared responsibility in disaster preparedness— everyone, from the government to local communities, must take action.
The government must invest in disaster risk reduction, assuring stronger infrastructure, early warning systems, and public education on disaster response. Schools like Isulan National High School play a crucial role in teaching students about safety measures, emergency response, and resilience-building.
Beyond immediate aid, long-term planning is essential. Communities must have access to healthcare, clean water, and support services to recover effectively. By adhering a culture of preparedness, we can protect lives and reduce losses in future calamities.
Disasters are inevitable, but their impact can be minimized. Let’s stay informed, work together, and take action to build a safer, more resilient future.

Your vote, your future

We conducted a survey asking 100 students about the qualities they value in a leader, below are the list of qualities that the students of INHS prefer in choosing their next leaders:
R – Resilient
A resilient leader is able to bounce back from setbacks, adapt to challenges, and maintain focus on the bigger picture despite difficulties.
E – Exemplary

Elections are not about popularity or empty promises. It’s about choosing leaders who have the right skills, experience, and plans to improve education, healthcare, and the economy. Don’t be fooled by catchy slogans—research candidates carefully and vote for those who truly serve the people.
Selling your vote means selling your future. When politicians buy votes, they often care more about winning than solving real problems. Your vote is powerful—use it to elect leaders who will bring lasting change.
Fake news spreads fast, especially on social media. Before believing or
sharing information, check if it’s true. Misinformation can lead to poor choices, so be a responsible voter by staying informed.
... Many government positions are controlled by the same families. While some may be qualified, it’s important to consider fresh ideas and new leaders who bring different perspectives. Support candidates who prioritize the people, not their own interests.”
If you’re voting for the first time, this is your chance to make a difference.
Learn about the election process, encourage others to vote, and be an active citizen. Schools and communities can help by providing voter education, so take advantage of these opportunities.
As students, you have a duty to spread truthful, balanced, and accurate information. You can help your neighbors think critically and engage in meaningful discussions about the elections. Elections are not just about politics—they are about the future we want for our country. By voting wisely and responsibly, we take a step toward a better and more inclusive Philippines. Let’s use our voices to create change!
An exemplary leader sets a high standard for others, leading by example through actions, behavior, and ethics, inspiring their team to strive for
A – Accountable
A leader takes responsibility for their actions, decisions, and the outcomes of their leadership, ensuring transparency and trustworthiness in their role.
D – Dedicated
A dedicated leader is committed to their mission, team, and continuous improvement, showing a strong work ethic and determination to achieve goals.
Y - Yields Trust
A leader is trustworthy, promoting a sense of security and confidence within their team by being honest, consistent, and dependable in all circumstances.

Based on the survey results from 100 students, the most valued leadership quality is Exemplary. This indicates that students prioritize leaders who lead by example, demonstrate integrity, and inspire others through their actions. Trustworthiness and accountability are also highly regarded, showing that students expect leaders to be responsible and dependable. Meanwhile, resilience, though essential, received the lowest votes, suggesting that it may be perceived as less critical in comparison to other leadership traits.

When teachers bear the load
The mental well-being of teachers is a vital yet often overlooked aspect of the education system. Recent incidents have shed light on the severe impact of burnout, stress, and inadequate support on educators’ lives. Teachers face immense pressures, from managing excessive workloads to handling administrative demands, all while striving to meet the diverse needs of their students. When these challenges go unaddressed, the consequences ripple through the classroom, affecting not only teachers’ effectiveness but also the quality of education students receive. Beyond their professional responsibilities, teachers are human beings who deserve compassion, understanding, and mental health support.

MATATAG’s future: Will the good ship sail on?
The Matatag Curriculum was introduced as a bold response to the educational challenges facing the Philippines, particularly after the learning setbacks caused by the pandemic. It promised a more streamlined and holistic approach to education, focusing on developing well-rounded students ready to face the demands of the 21st century. But now, with the resignation of former Department of Education Secretary Sara Duterte and Senator Sonny Angara stepping in, many are asking: Will the Matatag Curriculum stay on course, or will it lose its momentum?
Impact on Student Learning and Addressing Learning
Loss
Instead of juggling too many subjects, we now have more time to truly understand the core topics. This approach makes learning feel more meaningful and less about memorizing for the sake of exams. With fewer subjects, students are also able to focus on mastering concepts in a more holistic manner, paving the way for better retention and application of knowledge.

Students, parents, and peers play essential roles in alleviating teacher burnout. Students can contribute by showing respect, attentiveness, and gratitude, gestures that can significantly boost teachers’ morale.
Peer support among teachers is equally critical, fostering camaraderie and shared responsibility through the exchange of strategies and emotional encouragement. Together, these collective efforts can create a positive, supportive environment that uplifts teachers and sustains a thriving educational community.
Educational institutions must also take proactive measures to support their teachers. This includes providing access to mental health resources, reducing unnecessary workloads, and promoting open dialogue to ensure educators feel heard and valued. By prioritizing teacher well-being, schools can build a healthier, more sustainable educational environment—one that benefits not only teachers but also students and the broader community.
The changes brought by Matatag have been impactful, especially with programs like Catch-up Fridays. These weekly sessions aren’t just for reviewing lessons— they provide a lifeline for students struggling to catch up. Learning loss, especially for those affected by the pandemic, is real. Catchup Fridays offer a valuable opportunity for students to master concepts they may have missed. This program is essential for helping all learners, regardless of past challenges, progress at their own pace.
Reduced Subject Load: A Blessing or Challenge?
One of the most striking changes is the reduced subject load. For the first time, we’re able to dive deeper into our lessons without feeling overwhelmed.
The Matatag Curriculum is not just a set of reforms; it is a lifeline for education in the Philippines— ensuring that students are not just learning but truly understanding, growing, and preparing to shape a better future."
Peace Competencies: A Vision for a Harmonious Society
Let’s not forget the integration of peace competencies. In a world full of conflicts, teaching students about empathy, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding is visionary. It’s preparing us not just to succeed academically but to contribute to a more harmonious society. These competencies play a vital role in shaping students who can bridge divides, mediate disagreements, and act as leaders in
The question now is whether this progress will continue. Leadership changes often bring uncertainty, but it’s crucial that the Matatag Curriculum doesn’t lose its momentum. Senator Angara’s leadership will be key in determining the future direction of these reforms. While changes in leadership may bring new perspectives, we must ensure that the core values and goals of the Matatag Curriculum are preserved. It’s vital that DepEd stays committed to the vision of holistic education and prioritizes long-term growth over short-term adjustments.
Preparing Filipino Students for the 21st Century
This curriculum isn’t just a set of reforms; it’s a lifeline for education in the Philippines. Students have seen how it’s starting to make a difference. The Matatag Curriculum is not just about teaching academic subjects— it’s about preparing Filipino students for the real-world challenges of the 21st century. It’s about equipping us with the skills, values, and knowledge to thrive in an ever-changing global landscape.
It is hoped that Senator Angara and the DepEd will ensure this good ship sails on, steering us toward a brighter, more promising future. The question is: Will they seize the chance to uplift Philippine education, or let it slip away?

Clearing the fog on Sex Ed
Senate Bill 1979, or the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy Act of 2023, aims to address the rising rates of teenage pregnancy in the Philippines. It promotes comprehensive sex education, social protection for young parents, and government funding to support these initiatives.
In Filipino society, discussing sex is often avoided, leaving many young people misinformed about their health and relationships. This lack of knowledge leads to unplanned pregnancies, disrupted education, and limited future opportunities. Senate Bill 1979 ensures that students receive age-appropriate, science-based education to help them make responsible choices.
As an institution that shapes the minds of young learners, Isulan National High School plays a crucial role in promoting awareness and responsible decision-making. By integrating comprehensive sex education into the curriculum, the school can equip students with the knowledge and confidence to protect their future.

Teachers and students alike must engage in open discussions, fostering a supportive environment where learning about reproductive health is encouraged rather than
Proper reproductive health education does not encourage risky behavior— it empowers students with facts about STIs, healthy relationships, and emotional wellbeing. Other countries have successfully reduced teen pregnancies through similar programs, proving that evidence-based education is more effective than moralistic
The bill also provides support for adolescent parents, ensuring they have access to education, healthcare, and financial aid to secure a better future. Now is the time to prioritize education and support systems that truly make a difference.

The morning sun spills its golden light over the grounds of Isulan National High School, bathing its familiar halls in warmth. In the midst of lively student chatter and the hum of classroom lessons, a quiet yet powerful act unfolds, so subtle that it might escape the notice of a rushing passerby. Yet, in this fleeting moment, a tradition endures, speaking volumes without a single word.
For Karla, this is more than tradition. It’s an expression of heartfelt thanks for the lessons, wisdom, and patience her teachers have shared.
Whether it’s a teacher from years past or someone she meets in passing, Karla honors them with the same sincerity, acknowledging their role in shaping her growth.
One day, at a school assembly, Karla approached a teacher from her past who had grown older. With the same warmth, she placed the teacher’s hand on her forehead, a moment that transcended time. The teacher’s smile, full of pride, reflected the quiet power of Karla’s gratitude.
Karla’s pagmamano is a powerful reminder of the enduring impact teachers have on their students. It is a simple yet profound gesture,

Bites that Bind Nourishing connections one meal at a time
In a world where individualism often takes center stage, one can't help but wonder, is the timeless tradition of sharing food during lunch fading away? Are students still passing pieces of their sandwiches or offering bites of their snacks to friends, or has the spirit of sharing quietly disappeared over time? For many, lunchtime has always been more than just a break to eat, it’s a time to connect, laugh, and nurture friendships.
MOMENTS THAT MATTER
Lunchtime offers a respite from academics, fostering meaningful connections.
As one student shared, “I ate with my closest friends, talking about random, funny things. It was happy.” These moments remind us that lunch is more than just eating, it’s about shared experiences that strengthen bonds.

or years, Kalawag Central School of Isulan has been the heart of the Sultan Kudarat Athletic Association (SKAA) competitions, where countless athletes have carved their names in history, bringing home victories, pride, and honor to their respective schools. But as time passed, the once-thriving oval lost its former glory. The tracks, once vibrant with energy, became rigid and uneven. Wild grass crept over its edges, dust blanketed its surface, and an air of neglect settled in, leaving behind a field that felt more like a forgotten relic than a battleground for champions.
That was when the students of Isulan National High School (INHS) took action. Moved by their passion for sports and their unwavering sense of community, they rolled up their sleeves and set out to restore the oval, not because they had to, but because they wanted to. Like tireless worker bees tending to their hive, the batang INHS, from Grades 7 to 12, showed their dedication by clearing out the overgrown grass, sweeping away the dust, and collecting sacks of debris. Every sweep of the broom, every sack lifted, every patch of dirt scrubbed away was a labor of love, a commitment to ensuring that the athletes would once again have a stage worthy of their talents.
And so, with grit and determination, the oval was reborn.
Now, as the competitions commence, athletes step onto the field with confidence, their path to victory unhindered by neglect.
After all, a clean field fosters a clear mind, and in the world of sports, mental clarity can be the difference between defeat and triumph.
Yet beyond the restored field, beyond the victories won and the medals earned, something even greater emerged, a partnership built on mutual respect, selflessness, and a shared love for the game. INHS and Kalawag Central School have proven that success is never achieved alone.
Just as fans uplift their idols, and teams rally together in moments of struggle, these schools have shown that true greatness is found not just in competition, but in collaboration.
This is the spirit of pARTnership, where passion meets action, where teamwork transforms challenges into triumphs. Because in the end, victory is not just about winning medals, it is about the hands that lift, the hearts that give, and the communities that thrive together. With every strike, every kick, and every spike on a field restored with love and dedication, new stories of triumph unfold, written not just by the athletes, but by the very students who made it possible. That is what makes this partnership truly golden.

Woven Fronds Behind the
by AARON SUMAGAYSAY
BEHIND THE WORD “KALAKAT”
Kalakat, a woven material found in many rural areas of Mindanao, has long been used to decorate Filipino homes.
Traditionally made from bamboo, it’s now crafted using African oil palm fronds in Isulan. Kalakat is lightweight, breathable, and serves as a wall material in nipa houses (Bahay Kubo), keeping them cool despite the heat. But more than its practicality, kalakat symbolizes resilience and resourcefulness, qualities deeply rooted in many families’ livelihoods.
For Justine, kalakat is

not just a material, it’s a lifeline that supports his family. While weaving kalakat is a painstaking process, often sold at a low price, Justine values each piece as a reminder of his father’s hard work and sacrifices.
BEHIND THE KALAKAT’S TINY HOLES
Instead of playing with friends after school, Justine heads home to help his father weave kalakat. He learned the craft by watching his father and embraced the tradition.
“I see my father making kalakat for our house and livelihood, so I learned how to do it,” Justine shares. Despite the challenges, he sees weaving as a
blessing, connecting him to his roots and helping his family make ends meet.
As inflation rises, the income from selling kalakat doesn’t always cover their daily needs. Yet, Justine remains hopeful, knowing that every kalakat he finishes brings him one step closer to his dreams.
BEHIND HIS AMBITIONS
Justine dreams of becoming an architect, hoping to bring traditional materials like kalakat into modern

architecture.
For him, kalakat represents more than just fronds woven together, it’s a symbol of tradition and a personal story. He believes that honoring tradition can inspire something extraordinary in the modern world.
Justine’s belief in the value of tradition has inspired others. He emphasizes that embracing tradition doesn’t mean rejecting progress, sometimes, it’s the foundation for something amazing.
BEHIND EACH KALAKAT HE WEAVES
Each kalakat Justine weaves is a step toward a brighter future. In a world dominated by technology, Justine’s story proves that the traditions we learn from our families can lead us to success. Behind the kalakat, the hard work, and the woven fronds, Justine’s journey shows us that we can all weave our own fate into something beautiful.

Juice and Coffee—Together?
WHy not?
Mixing coffee and juice—or at least pairing them—can be a game-changer!

Coffee provides an energy boost, while the right juice adds balance, hydration, and nutrients (U.S. Department of Agriculture, 2020). Espresso pairs well with celery juice, rich in potassium and magnesium to counter caffeine’s dehydrating effects (Mayo Clinic, 2023). Carrot-orange

coffee, offering vitamin C and beta-carotene for immunity and skin health (Medical News Today, 2023).
Latte lovers? Spinachcucumber juice adds iron, antioxidants, and hydration (Healthline, 2022). Beet-ginger juice boosts circulation, thanks to beets’ nitrates and ginger’s anti-inflammatory properties (Clifford et al., Food & Function, 2015). For cold brew

vitamins A, C, and K for an energizing lift (Boeing et al., European Journal of Nutrition, 2012).
Stronger coffees match earthy juices like beet or carrot, while lighter brews pair best with fresh blends like spinach or cucumber. So, why not try a coffee-juice combo? It’s a delicious, evidencebacked way to boost energy and nutrition!

Sip, Sip, Hooray: Phytochemicals in a Glass!
by TAKESHI CADIANG
Juicing isn’t just a trend—it’s a powerful way to flood your body with cancer-fighting nutrients. Each sip delivers antioxidants, vitamins, and phytochemicals that neutralize free radicals, repair DNA, and strengthen immunity. Take carrot juice—its beta-carotene is linked to lower breast and stomach cancer risks, while falcarinol has slowed cancer cell growth by up to 33% (Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2023). Leafy greens like kale and spinach detoxify the liver and provide vitamins A, C, and K for immune resilience. Beets, packed with betalains, may suppress inflammation and inhibit tumor growth
(Nutrients, 2023). Citrus fruits bring a vitamin C punch, enhancing white blood cell function and shielding cells from oxidative stress (Frontiers in Immunology, 2022). Want a nutrient boost? Try an Orange Crush (oranges, cranberries, carrots) for vitamin C and beta-carotene, or a Leafy Greens Glory (spinach, kale, beet, celery, apple) for detoxification and blood health. Pomegranate Powerhouse (pomegranate, cherries) delivers polyphenols that may block tumor blood vessel growth (Cancer Prevention Research, 2023).
Yes, juicing removes fiber, but it provides concentrated
nutrition—especially helpful for those struggling to eat during treatment. Balance sugar by pairing fruits with low-glycemic veggies and adding chia seeds or almond butter for sustained energy.
single food cures cancer, research shows 30–40% of cancers may be preventable through diet and lifestyle (American Institute for Cancer Research). Juicing is a delicious way to tap into nature’s protective power—one vibrant glass at a time!

serious health benefits. Beyond boosting immunity, research shows it reduces the risk of severe cold complications like pneumonia and lung infections (Moyad et al., 2024). It also plays a crucial role in heart health, with studies linking higher vitamin C intake to a 42% lower risk of stroke (Myint et al., American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2024). When it comes to skin, vitamin C helps reduce wrinkles, dryness, and signs of aging, both through diet and topical applications (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2024). Since our bodies don’t store vitamin C, we need a steady supply from food or supplements (Ratini, 2024).
A half-cup of red pepper (95mg) or a
daily intake (Zelman, 2024). For extra benefits, 500mg daily is considered safe and effective, staying well below the 2,000mg upper limit that can cause stomach discomfort (Moyad et al., 2024). Vitamin C is also easily depleted by stress, smoking, and obesity, making it a critical marker of overall health resilience (Moyad et al., 2024). To get the most out of vitamin C, pair it with iron-rich meals to enhance absorption and avoid overcooking vitamin C-rich foods, as heat destroys its potency (Ratini, 2024). In a world of complicated health trends, vitamin C remains a simple yet powerful tool for lifelong wellness. Sometimes, the best solutions are the easiest ones!

Juices aren’t just delicious—they’re packed with powerhouse benefits for your heart, gut, and overall wellness. Discover how nature’s liquid gold can transform your life, one sip at a time!

Solar Synergy: Turning Sunlight into Sustainable Motion
by RHIAN PADILLO
When our minds dance in a colorful world of creativity, where ideas collide and combine, wonderful inventions come to life. The skilled Grade 12 Technical-VocationalLivelihood (TVL) students of Isulan National High School have created an eco-friendly invention that could benefit our community and the environment.
Their brilliant invention is called the ‘AESHIELDIT Electric Solar-Powered Vehicle.’
It is a vehicle that uses solar panels to capture sunlight and convert it into electricity, which powers an electric motor. The solar panels are located on the vehicle’s roof and contain a device called solar cells that converts sunlight directly into electricity. The electricity that comes from the sun is stored in a battery, which serves as a power source for the panels. The stored energy is then used to drive an electric motor, which makes the vehicle run.

SafeSIP:
Purity in Every Drop
by LOUISSE ESPEJO
Water is life, but only when it’s clean. Contaminated sources threaten health, demanding smarter purification. This is where SafeSIP shines as a portable, pressuremonitored, UV-C-powered filtration system built to make every sip safer.

Dirty water flows freely, but safe drinking water doesn’t. In disaster zones, remote areas, and emergencies, access to clean water remains a challenge. Bulky, inefficient purification methods leave many high and dry.
SafeSIP is a lightweight, rechargeable multi-stage filtration device with a micro air pressure sensor, layered filters, and a UV-C LED strip to wipe out contaminants. It was tested for flow rate, water quality, and
microbial safety, passing Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water with flying colors, safe TDS, balanced pH, and minimal turbidity. Evaluators gave it the green light for functionality, adaptability, and design.
Access to clean water isn’t a luxury, it’s a right. Supporting next-gen purification tech like SafeSIP through field trials, regulatory backing, and expanded safety testing can help turn the tide on unsafe drinking water. With SafeSIP, every drop counts, every sip is safer. Future upgrades—stronger microbial barriers, a ceramic glass straw, and maintenance alerts will refine its brilliance. Because clean water shouldn’t be a privilege, but a promise.

Sustainable alternatives to synthetic growth enhancers in poultry farming have become increasingly important due to environmental and health concerns. This need has led to innovative research exploring natural solutions.
Researchers Arnie T. Waje, Charles Michael S. Poblador, and Goldy Lyt M. Gregorio developed a pellet supplement that blends garlic and tamarind, combining garlic’s antimicrobial and antioxidant properties with tamarind’s digestive benefits.
The study aimed to create a cost-effective, eco-friendly method to boost broiler growth. Over a 23-day

period using a Randomized Complete Block Design, the pellet was compared with pure garlic, pure tamarind, and commercial feeds.
Results showed that broilers fed the garlic-tamarind pellet experienced significantly greater weight gain, along with improved immunity and digestion. This led to healthier chickens and better-quality meat. This innovation offers poultry farmers a natural and sustainable alternative to synthetic additives, paving the way for safer and more environmentally responsible farming practices.

Uncovering Student’s Obsession with Drag Racing in Isulan
by ROLANDO DE GUZMAN III
the thrill of speed, the roar of engines, and the rush of adrenaline—what seems like an exciting pastime for some teenagers in Isulan has turned into a dangerous and deadly obsession. Illegal drag racing among students, particularly those from the Technical-VocationalLivelihood (TVL) track at Isulan National High School, has become a growing concern, with multiple incidents leading to severe injuries and even fatalities. According to ALXnow (2020) two-thirds of people in street racing accidents are between the ages 15 and 30. What was once seen as a reckless hobby has

now turned into a serious crisis. Several students have already experienced near-death accidents, and tragically, three recorded deaths have been linked to these illegal races. The streets of Isulan, often quiet by day, transform into makeshift race tracks at night, where young riders, fueled by excitement and peer pressure, push their limits without considering the risks.
Local authorities and school officials have expressed deep concern over this alarming trend. “It’s heart breaking to see young lives being lost to something so preventable,” said Dr. Valencia, school principal.
“We have to act before more students fall victim to this deadly craze.”
In an effort to curb this dangerous activity, Isulan National High School has launched initiatives to educate students on the dangers of reckless driving and illegal drag racing. The school is set to conduct a forum and symposium on responsible driving and road safety, hoping to instill awareness among its students. Experts, law enforcers, and accident survivors will be invited to share their insights and experiences. “We want to remind them that being a responsible motorist aren’t just about following traffic
