Introduction

Why You Should Get Into This Business Right Now

Purpose of This Book

Dear friend,

Why have you picked up this book? Why do you want to start a business? Out of the thousands of ways to earn a living, why mobile apps? This book you are reading is not just a book about how to make money, it is a book about how to achieve your dreams, hopes and ambitions . The strategies outlined in this book are a tool to help you get to where you want to be, to live the life that you have always wanted to live .

I understand that you are an extremely busy person . I have put this book together to help you to build and grow your app business in your spare time into a business that will generate a full- time income for you . If you will diligently read this book, a chapter a day, and take actions on all that is outlined, you are well on your way to becoming a finisher, and a success in the App Store .

In this book I will show you the process I used to create my first mobile app, a simple recipe book app. A few months after submission into the App Store in January 2014, my little book and its app generated a net passive income of $2,706 .42 . This book you are holding is not a theory book, but a tried and tested case study and guidebook that has the potential to change your financial and economic life.

In recent years, I have observed a new trend in the IT business: the app business . Since then, I have studied and discovered the secrets of how successful multimillionaire appreneurs developed the mobile app business . I began to learn and experiment these ideas and strategies in my secret lab… (My bedroom)

I want to share with you the simple steps of creating a successful app business . And by the way, I do not know how to program any iOS or Android app at all, and neither do you . If you are an app developer yourself, then you will have a greater advantage over other app developers who do not know what I am going to reveal in this book .

In 2012, just four years after smartphones and iPhones were launched, these new phones broke past PC and Mac sales . This is an astounding growth rate, probably due to the fact that they were lower priced, and mobile phones were needed and used by almost everyone in the world .

If there are more users on smartphones, than users on computers, do you think there will be more people using computer programs and playing computer games, or people

using mobile apps and playing mobile games? Mobile apps usage is growing at a great rate and it is very likely that the use of mobile apps will overshadow the use of the World Wide Web, and the same will apply to the numbers of mobile apps vs the number of websites .

If you could turn back time, back 15 or 20 years ago, when the Internet business was still in its infancy stages, would you have started a website? What top-level domain name would you have bought? What kind of website would you have started?

If you have an app in the app store now, it is similar to having a website 15 years ago, when the Internet was starting to get really popular, and made more millionaires than ever before . I believe that the rate of millionaire production from the app business will outgrow the rate of millionaire production from the Internet .

Even if you have missed the wave, like me and the rest of the 99 .99% of the world population, it’s not too late to take advantage of the growth of the app business . If the rate of app users is growing at a higher rate than the growth of Internet users 15 years ago, do you think that we are now in a better position to start making some serious income?

What I am about to share is the result of my nine years of hands-on market research, competitive analysis, search marketing, traffic generation and my recent app business experience . What you are about to learn is unique because it comes from someone who started nine years ago while serving as a combat instructor in the Singapore Army .

How I Discovered the Mobile App Business

I heard about mobile apps in 2008 when I heard my friends talking about how cool their iPhones were . Back then I was using an HTC touchscreen phone . I thought I was cool, until the touch screen started to malfunction and I wasn’t so cool after all. My more adventurous friends were the first few to buy the new iPhone from Apple . What was different about the iPhone was that it had so many apps, like maps, torchlight and other cool games .

With so many apps, the iPhone looked like it could do anything . I even remember seeing people releasing funny iPhone videos on YouTube, showing that we could use the iPhone as a showerhead, TV remote control, and even a hand grenade! It was hilarious . I bought one to replace my HTC phone . It was a 3G model and I fell in love with it straight away .

Back then I was involved in Internet Marketing . At that point, I was making money online through Adsense, affiliate marketing, or selling info products . An avid lover of education, I would always be attending business conferences, and studied many of the latest Internet marketing strategies .

However, there were many gurus on the Internet and training programs became more and more common, and didn’t differ greatly from one another . They all said their product was the latest and newest in the market . As I went through each of them, I found that they just had a different way of saying the same thing . Of course there are some

originalities and hard work, and really valuable strategies that were being taught, and I appreciated the hard work these business coaches put into their products to add value to the lives of their customers . However, it didn’t really feel very new or exciting to me .

Then I came upon a training program called the Easy App Formula by James Jones, Matt Rhodes, John Rhodes and Jay Boyer . It was an online training program that taught people how to start an app business .

This was something new for me and I became very interested as I studied their training program . I never thought of making money with apps because I did not know how to develop apps but this course taught me how to outsource app development at a very affordable rate . (I will also share this with you how later in the book)

These app business coaches were encouraging us to start developing apps because it was the new thing and that many business people were starting to use them and many people were making a lot of money from the concept . They said apps could help increase customer reach and create extra passive income . Well, I decided to give it a shot .

How Mobile Apps Can Change Your Life

As I continued to occasionally publish new apps and start my journey in the app sphere, I realized that mobile apps indeed did work, and that there were people who wanted to use them . I

discovered that mobile apps not only helped to add value to the lives of the users, but were also an amazing source of income stream for the developers .

Now, we all know that mobile apps are an intricate part of our lives . We can hardly make do without them now . They influence people. Almost all Fortune 500 companies employ apps in one way or another to communicate their business to consumers, and help better service their clients .

Mobile apps are great tools to help us lead better lives . They are educational resources and sources of entertainment . I am sure you have heard of many apps that are really junk apps, but most of them have found their way into our daily lives . The apps we use help us to work better, faster and be more organized .

Apps are very versatile . They can be anything you want them to be . What I came to experience about being an appreneur, is that it is a new way of life . Every single day, there is someone who downloads my app and it impacts them in a certain way . Best of all, I get paid to do it . Do not worry, you will learn how to as well .

You may ask, how do I get paid? I do it by monetizing my app . Monetization can occur in many different ways . Different apps require different monetization models and strategies . Monetization simply means implementing ways of making money from the app . I will also share more with you later in the book .

What is important for you to understand is that the opportunity exists now; Mobile apps are still in the infancy stage, with only a very small percentage of apps-to-user ratio in the world . What are you waiting for? Jump on board the appreneur bandwagon and get paid for creating apps you are passionate about .

Imagine what you could do with that additional $1,000 a month in passive income 90 days from now . What would you do? Imagine you are making another $3,000 a month in passive income, six months from now, how would your life change? Where would you travel? Who will you give to? What will you buy? Will you still be working? How will your life change?

As the saying goes, there is no free lunch in the world . Without the commitment and skills that come from building an app business, most appreneurs never achieve full-time income to become successful appreneurs . And I believe that if you were to take the information that I am going to share with you seriously, and apply it diligently, you will be able to earn a fulltime income from your part-time app business .

Be prepared to equip yourself with the right mindset and the necessary willpower to build income-generating apps . No amount of good advice, latest techniques or my nagging will get you there . I do not want you to be hitting your head against a wall feeling confused and discouraged .

It is my goal with this Appsolutely book to expand the mind, and open the eyes of every potential professional appreneur who has ever wanted to increase their revenue

stream and make passive income through apps . Prepare to be wowed, tossed around, and finally, inspired with a new positive attitude that will lead you to a new app business success . After reading every chapter, take the time to reflect and complete the suggested exercises . Every step you take brings you closer and closer to becoming an app millionaire .

Being An App Maker Is Not A Job, It Is A Business

When I mentioned that I get paid for creating apps, I do not mean that I am ‘just’ a paid app developer . Being a paid app developer is a job - each project is paid between $2,000 to $50,000 per app . I do co-own an app development company at appsolutely .sg, we provide mobile app and marketing services . An app developer will always be limited by his time and ability to work . For me, the professional app business is not about looking for app development jobs . It is about building a solid and sustainable business, and online mobile asset that generates passive income .

This book is your solution to becoming a professional app business owner and earning a full- time income from parttime app development . I understand that many of you only have a few hours of free time each day, but trust me, that is enough to generate job-replacement income .

Creating apps is not a full-time occupation in my life; neither does it have to be for you if you do not want it to

be . Besides creating apps, I am an author, speaker, property investor, missionary and Internet marketing consultant . I have many other things going on in my life . But I am able to achieve financial freedom and have the time to do what I need to do. Most of my finances come from the passive income that is generated from my businesses, not from teaching people how to set up an app business or creating apps for my clients .

You may not desire to be the next Supercell or Gungho or any other super app guru out there who makes millions everyday, but an extra $2,000 - $4,000 a month is something most people would not mind having . You can achieve it if you are consistent in your learning and application, and I cannot emphasize how important it is to stick to it and not give up . It is the correct mental belief and attitude you have that will help you to achieve your financial dreams.

Are you ready to put in some hard work and effort into your business? There is no magic bullet for app success, no overnight riches on autopilot; you have to invest time, effort, energy and passion into your business . Only with dedication and persistence will you see fruits of your labor . Upon reading this material, some people may make money in their first month (absolutely possible), some in their second month, some in their third month . The secret is to NEVER GIVE UP. Hopping on the next big get-rich-quick training program is a sure way to failure . I recommend you launch at least your first app into the app store, before you even consider if you should stick with it .

My mentor said this to me:

“Persistence is the key to success. Your persistence will take you where your talent cannot. Your persistence will take you where your education cannot.”

To Your Success, Lim Tianyi

“Today there are hundreds of millions of mobile devices, but you do have to know a bit about what each device is capable of doing in order to approach it as a developer.”
- John Fowler, VP Systems of Oracle

“The history of the Internet is, in part, a series of opportunities missed: the major record labels let Apple take over the digital-music business; Blockbuster refused to buy Netflix for a mere $50 million dollars; Excite turned down the chance to acquire Google for less than $1 million.”

Step 1

An Unprecedented Trend

The Rise Of The App Store

In July 2013 Apple celebrated its App Store’s 5th birthday, and gave a brief history of the major milestones that happened in the previous five years, since the time of the official launch of the store in iTunes . It is a very remarkable achievement in such a short amount of time .

2008 Milestones

10 July 2008: App Store was launched in 62 countries with 500 apps available for download including eBay, Facebook, Shazam, MLB .com, At Bat, Super Monkey Ball, Travelocity and Yelp . Have you heard of them? They were the more popular apps at that time .

14 July 2008: 10 million apps are downloaded in the first weekend . This means on average, each of those 500 apps had 20,000 downloads over those few days . Not bad for a start!

2 August 2008: Super Monkey Ball from Sega tops 300,000 downloads in its first month in the App Store with revenue of $3 million .

Sega was the first game console I ever owned. My dad bought it for me when I was six years old, in 1991 . It isn’t that popular now, and has been taken over by Xbox, Nintendo, and Sony PlayStation . What a pleasant surprise to see their games again in the App Store . Using 20 days from launch as a rough estimate, this game had more than 15,000 downloads and made $150,000 a day . That’s about $10 per download . I would say that’s a pretty impressive monetization .

9 September 2008: The number of app downloads surpasses 100 million worldwide . That’s 10 times the amount less than a month ago .

25 September 2008: Shazam tops 1 .5 million downloads, and its users have tagged 20 million songs . That is about 2 .5 months after its release in the App Store . That’s about 18,500 downloads per day .

31 December 2008: Facebook is the year’s most downloaded app with almost five million downloads. That’s about 28,000 downloads a day .

2009 Milestones

16 January 2009: App downloads top 500 million worldwide and there are 15,000 apps on the app store . That’s about 2,500 new apps being developed and made available in the App Store monthly .

4 April 2009: App downloads top one billion worldwide . That’s about 100 million apps being downloaded every month .

6 April 2009: Doodle Jump is launched and the franchise goes on to surpass $10 million on iOS .

8 June 2009: iPhone 3GS announced . More than 50,000 apps are now available on the App Store . Every minute, 3,000 apps are downloaded on the App Store . That’s 50 apps a second .

June 2009: ESPN’s Real Racing is launched exclusively on iOS and goes on to be the most popular game in the App Store .

28 September 2009: App Store downloads hit two billion worldwide . There are 85,000 apps and 125,000 developers . The number of downloads have been increasing at a constant rate, but the number of apps are growing at a faster rate than before . Why are there more developers than apps? I think not all developers completed their apps and didn’t manage to release apps into the App Store . After you create your developer account, make sure you get your first app up!

8 October 2009: Jamie Oliver’s 20 Minute Meals is launched and quickly becomes one of the most popular apps on cooking in the App Store .

December 2009: Facebook and Paper Toss are the year’s most downloaded apps .

2010 Milestones

12 February 2010: Angry Birds is featured in the App Store, and its download rate increases by 50 times .

3 April 2010: iPad is launched in the Apple stores . I bought the first generation iPad, 64gb and 3G connection when it launched . I still have it!

3 April 2010: Netflix is debuted on the App Store.

30 April 2010: TIME Magazine is launched on iPad .

25 May 2010: The App Store has expanded to 90 countries .

7 June 2010: $1 billion is paid out to developers to date .

7 June 2010: App Store downloads hit five billion worldwide. The rate of downloads has been increasing over the years, probably due to more people owning an iPhone or iPad . 225,000 apps are now available with 11,000 specifically for iPad.

14 October 2010: Cut the rope is featured as App of the Week and it goes on to become one of the most popular games of the year . I see many people playing it in the public places .

28 October 2010: Instagram is featured as App of the Week, and is an exclusive on the App Store .

December 2010: Angry Birds, the year’s most downloaded game, celebrates its one-year anniversary .

2011 Milestones

22 January 2011: App Store downloads cross 10 billion . The tenth billion app downloaded is Paper Glider .

2 March 2011: iPad 2 is announced . More than 65,000 iPad apps are available

2 March 2011: $2 billion paid out to developers .

29 April 2011: HBO GO is launched in the App Store .

9 May 2011: Conde Nast launches subscription program in the App Store .

21 July 2011: App Store is now available in 123 countries

18 August 2011: Temple Run is featured as App of the Week . It went on to surpass 100 million downloads and became one of the most top grossing apps in the App Store .

4 October 2011: iPhone 4S is announced . Over 500,000 apps are available . App Store downloads cross 18 billion . More than one billion apps are downloaded from the App Store per month . That’s more than 33 million apps a day .

10 October 2011: Facebook is available on iPad and becomes the first app to cross 100 million downloads on the App Store.

December 2011: Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja are the year’s most downloaded game app . I played Fruit Ninja a lot!

2012 Milestones

24 January 2012: More than $4 billion is paid to developers . Money paid out to developers is at an increasing rate . . .perhaps they are now better at monetizing?

5 March 2012: App Store download crosses 25 billion .

5 March 2012: Disney’s Where’s My Water? is the 25 billionth app downloaded .

29 March 2012: Paper by Fifty Tree is featured as App of the Week, and goes on to be iPad’s app of the Year .

21 June 2012: App Store is available in 155 countries .

21 September 2012: iPhone 5 and fifth generation iPod touch is launched . This is the iPhone I am using now .

23 October 2012: iPad mini and fourth generation iPad with Retina display are launched . That is the iPad I am using now . Yeah as you can see, I am quite an Apple product fanatic .

December 2012: More than two billion apps are downloaded in December alone. This figure is the same as what it took from the launch of App Store in 10 July 2008 to 28 September 2009, a 14-month period . Temple Run and Draw Something are the year’s most downloaded apps .

2013 Milestones

16 May 2013: App Store downloads cross 50 billion; that is more than 800 per second . Over 850,000 apps are available; 350,000 of them are native to iPad .

10 June 2013: More than $10 billion paid to developers .

10 July 2013: Apple celebrates five years of the App Store. Congratulations to the Apple team for such an astounding achievement!

Below are simple line graphs that I have generated based on the above figures. They include app downloads, number of App Store apps and number of iPad apps .

Can you see its potential? Let me show you some more record-breaking reports of highly successful game apps .

Case Study #1: Flappy Bird

By February 2014, more than 50 million people have downloaded the highly-controversial app and have generated billions of ad impressions for its creator, even though the game has been taken off the app stores . Dong Nguyen, a single man living with his parents in Vietnam, was still making about $50,000 a day then .

Rumor has it that Nguyen was “asked” to remove the game due to legal issues . However, he insists it was because he couldn’t take the pressure from the publicity this game brought, especially after a 16-year-old Chicago teen stabbed his 17-year old brother to death because he teased him about getting a low score of six .

What I have learned from this is that it doesn’t take a complicated game that requires thousands of man hours from highly-skilled developers and designers to be successful . A simple game such as this, that leverages on Angry Bird and Super Mario’s iconic name and graphics can also be highly popular and profitable.

Case Study #2: Candy Crush

According to business .com in its July 8, 2013 post, Candy Crush is making an estimated $633,000 a day . Yes you read it right, it is per day . It’s one of the top grossing games in the App Store and Facebook .

According to money .msn . com on May 31, 2013 post entitled: Why Candy Crush is a moneymaking machine – The insanely popular app has 15 million daily players, stomping nearly every other mobile game . It’s free but still bring big bucks to developer King .com .

Case Study #3: Clash of Clans

In Forbes’ article on April 17, 2013, the writer speculated that the makers of this game might be the fastest-growing game company ever . Supercell, the makers of Clash of

This is my actual Clash of Clans base .

Clans (strategy) and Hay Day (farming) had astonishing growth almost overnight . It now has daily revenue of $2 .4 million, and attracts 8 .5 million daily players who play an average of 10 times per day .

Supercell is already at a run rate of more than $800 million for 2013, having earned $179 million before expenses in the first quarter alone. It is estimated that if Supercell plays its cards right, it could reach $1 billion by year’s end . It is currently the hottest mobile gaming company on the planet . It has plans to enter into the Android market in the near future . Pretty amazing isn’t it? What would you do if you are making $2 million a day?

Case Study #4: Puzzle and Dragons

According to a March 27, 2013 article on techinasia .com, maker Gungho reported sales of $92 million in January 2013 . It is estimated that the puzzle/ RPG hybrid alone racked up between $54 million and $75 million in January, or between 59% and 81% of Gungho’s sales in January .

Gungho posted a new financial document, which reported that sales in February 2013 for the company reached 10 billion yen, that is $106 million in 28 days .

It is estimated that Puzzle and Dragons will generate $62 million to $86 million in 2014 . This revenue is generated by nine to 10 million registered users on both iOS and Android . These are all unheard of in the business world . It’s breaking records everywhere . Can you begin to see where the mobile app industries are heading in the future? Below is a chart of the money Apple has paid to its developers .

“If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.”
- Henry Ford

Step 2 Beyond The 3rd Dimension

The 4th Dimension

We are a 4th dimensional being living in a 3rd Dimensional world . The 3rd Dimension is the material world in which we know, see and feel . By learning how to tap into the 4th Dimension, you will be able to overcome the limitations of your daily lives, and walk in your purpose and destiny in order to bring about creation and positive changes to the world around you. In order to achieve lasting success and financial freedom, you need to walk in the power of the 4th Dimension .

1. Thinking

One of the richest kings who ever lived once said, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he .” You have to guard your thoughts and thinking life . Whatever you think in your heart, you will move in that direction and become the person you are thinking of. Thoughts are things. They manifest first in the mind, and become a physical reality in your life .

In the past, no one could run a mile under 4 minutes . Doctors say it’s a physical impossibility and if you attempt to do so you will die . In 1954,, a race was watched by about 3,000 spectators, broadcasted live by BBC Radio, and commented by 1924 Olympic medalist Harold Abrahams, of Chariots of Fire fame .

When Roger Bannister completed the mile, the announcer excited the crowd by delaying the result as long as he could and finally declared, “Ladies and gentlemen, here is the result of event 9, the one mile: 1st, No. 41, R.G. Bannister, Amateur Athletic Association and formerly of Exeter and Merton Colleges, Oxford, with a time which is a new meeting and track record, and which—subject to ratification—will be a new English Native, British National, All-Comers, European, British Empire and World Record. The time was 3...”

And the cheers of the ecstatic crowd swallowed the rest of the results, which was 3 minutes and 59 .4 seconds .

What was amazing was that he had broke this record with so little training, as he was a junior doctor at that time, not a full-time Olympian contestant . However, his record only lasted 46 days . And in two years, more than 100 people ran the mile under 4 minutes .

It was because the mental barrier was broken . What was deemed to be a physical impossibility has been proven otherwise . When you break up the word IMPOSSIBLE to I-M-POSSIBLE, you start to see yourself differently . Maybe you think that it is impossible for you to be wealthy, it’s impossible to live a good

life, it’s impossible to start a successful app business . If you think that way, remember Roger Bannister . As Bannister started the run, he was aiming for 4 minutes, even though no one in the world had ever achieved it . He was thinking of setting a world record, and he did it . The way you think is so important . It determines your ability to overcome obstacles, push past setbacks and conquer the fears and pains in your pursuit of greatness . Roger Bannister once said, “The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win . ”

I believe we are able to do exceedingly great things, above all that you ask or think, according to the creative power that is working inside of us . Focus your mind on what you want to achieve . What is the most common reply when someone is asked, “How are you?” Most of the time we hear replies like “I am so tired .” Real tiredness is in the mind . When your mind is tired you get depressed easily, you lose your temper easily . Our mind becomes tired quickly when we are focused on the negative things in life, like debt, lack of money, comparing with others, unjust treatment and hurtful words .

You must train mind to think positive things . How? By focusing on good things that are happening in your life . What can you be grateful and thankful for? Celebrating small victories is also very important . Every small step towards your goal should be celebrated. Don’t wait until you make your first million before you start celebrating . If you start celebrating now, it will take you a shorter time to reach that million dollar mark .

Celebrate the fact that you have come across such a wonderful opportunity to live your life differently, celebrate whenever you manage to finish reading one chapter. Celebrate after you have completed the exercise at the end of the chapter . Celebrate when you have thought of the first app that you want to create . Celebrate when the prototype of your app is in your phone . Celebrate when the app is being launched in the App Store. Celebrate when you have your first download. Celebrate when you make your first dollar. By doing this, it encourages you and motivates you to move on to the next goal, knowing that another celebration awaits you at the completion of the task .

It’s easy to go into negativity; it is human nature as most people are naturally pessimistic . Positive thoughts are a magnet -- they attract the positive things in your mind . The same is true for fear, or worry, or negative thoughts -- they also act as a magnet, but a negative one, that attracts the unwanted stuff into your life .

People who are usually positive and optimistic will have many people drawn to them because they are a source of life .

Be a positive person, be a human magnet, be a world changer . Train your mind not to fear or dwell in worry, but to focus on the positive outcomes of what you want .

Exercise: Focusing on the good things in life helps us to develop positive thoughts . What are the 10 things you can be grateful for right now? (Good health, peaceful family, loyal friends etc .) 1 . 2 . 3 . 4

2. Dreaming

Everything that you see around you, the chair you are setting in, the computer that you are using, the house that you live it, is a product of someone’s vision, someone’s dream . It existed even before you saw the physical product, before its shipment to the store, before its production . It existed as a dream, in the faculty of the mind .

In a time when there was great racial segregation in public schools, discrimination in employment and physical brutality from police, there was a man who wanted to change things . He had a dream for black people to be free from their oppression, in the struggle for justice and human dignity .

Although the African Americans had legally been freed from slavery, had rights of citizens and full voting rights, many still continued to face economic, academic and political repression . He had a dream for an end to racism in the United States .

Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr . and a group of civil rights, labor and religious organizations organized one of the largest political rallies for human rights in United States history . It took place in Washington D . C . on Wednesday, August 28, 1963 . It was estimated that about 200,000 to 300,000 people participated in this, ‘March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom .’ Observers estimated that about 75% of the people were black .

Martin Luther King Jr . delivered a 17-minute speech, which we all now know as ‘I Have a Dream’ . At the prompting of Mahalia Jackson, who shouted behind him, “Tell them about the dream!” He deviated from his prepared speech and said:

“I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed:

‘We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.’

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
