Synopsis

The sisters lose their mother when they are young and are later taken to the forest and abandoned by their father, and from that point on, they each go their separate ways in the world. This is not a . . .

Throughout the show, the characters have many adventures in the play. Although many of the items they use may not be what they seem, each item has a purpose and can be used as anything with the use of your imagination.

Now it's your turn! Pick an object, such as a ruler you find in your class and announce,“This is not a ruler, this is a…” and use the characteristics of the object as well as your imagination to imagine something else it could become! And so, a ruler might become a magic wand, a sword, or a baseball bat! Then pass the item to the next person in the circle and invite themto use their imagination and envision what else it could be!

Story of my name

In the show every sister has something that makes them unique — including their name! Think about YOUR name and what makes it unique: any meaning, history, or personal connection behind it. Now spell out your name vertically, like you are making a list, and for each letter pick a word that represents who you are! If you are up to the challenge, you can even makeasentencestartingwiththatletter.

AllAround theWorld

Carmen lives in a forest with a bunch of animal buddies just like many people in Brazil! One of the biggest forests in the world, The Amazon, is in Brazil

There are many indigenous tribes who live in the forest, the largest being the Ticuna, who have lived there comfortably for many years!

Facts!

On Albienne’s journey, she helps a town fight off Vikkings or Vikings. Vikings would travel all around the world looking for places to inhabit, including Greenland. Vikings lived in Greenland for many years until one day they mysteriously disappeared!

In the play, Beatrix finds a lighthouse and using her creative thinking she is able to turn it into a boat! However, did you know the largest lighthouse in the world is in SaudiArabia? The lighthouse at the Jeddah Port actually wasn't created with navigation in mind; instead, its main focus is as a control room used for traffic communication. Funny how lighthouses can serve different purposes!

This girl rhymes andotherfigurativelanguage...

In this show, the playwright uses A LOT of figurative language. Figurative language is a way of speaking or writing that conveys a message to the readers that is different from the literal term that is being used. Metaphorscompare two unlike things without saying like or as.

“NARRATOR: And with these words, Beatrix feels like the whole lighthouse is a teapot, and she is a teabag sitting inside, just filling up and slowly getting heavierandheavier.Crossingtheworldishard,sherealizes.Itwouldbesimpler justto...not.”

Alliteration is when a series of words begin with the same consonant sound. Like “bad bothersome badger” or “sweet scrumptious scones.”

“NARRATOR: And that day (and for six days afterwards) the biggest, bashiest, bloodiest…”

Rhyming is the repetition of identical or similar sounds at the end of words. UnderlinewhichthreewordsrhymeinthisOldManline.

“OLD MAN: No. But I like threes. And I like trees. And I like these.”

A rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhymes at the end of each line of a poem or song. It is usually referred to by using letters to indicate which lines rhyme; lines designated with the same letter all rhyme with each other. Identifytherhymeschemeinthisnextsetofsixlines.

“ALBIENNE:

I am a woman and this was my years. This I now carry, and this disappears.”

“BEATRIX:

This was a good thing, and this was a bad. Of this I feel guilty, of this I feel glad.”

“CARMEN: And some things I can change, some I can’t fix.

I’m alone but as well, I am part of a mix.”

birthday cake!

Imagine the best birthday cake you could ever have! What flavor would it be—chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, or something else? How many layers would it have—one, two, or maybe even three? What colors and decorations would make it look amazing? Would you add sprinkles, candy, fruit, or a special design?

First, drawapicture of your perfect birthday cake. Then, writeashort description that explains what your cake looks like, what it would taste like, and why it would be the perfect cake for you.
