THE IWC SCHAFFHAUSEN INGENIEUR AUTOMATIC 42 IN BLACK CERAMIC

IWC Schaffhausen introduces the Ingenieur Automatic 42 in black ceramic at Watches and Wonders Geneva. It combines the Gérald Genta-derived integrated bracelet design with a full ceramic execution for the first time. To achieve a faithful ceramic translation of the emblematic design, the watch features an innovative multi-part ceramic case construction. The model is also distinguished by a high level of detail in the finishing of its ceramic components with a combination of satin-finishing, sandblasting and polishing. The IWC-manufactured 82110 calibre with a Pellaton winding system, ceramic components and a power reserve of 60 hours is visible through the tinted sapphire glass case back.

Ceramic is extremely hard and resistant to scratches but also lighter than steel and unaffected by temperature changes. These properties make it an ideal material for use in wristwatches. IWC Schaffhausen’s ceramic expertise dates back almost four decades. In 1986, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer introduced the world’s first wristwatch with a black zirconium oxide ceramic case. Following that milestone, IWC’s engineers have continued to innovate in this field and introduced material innovations including silicon nitride, boron carbide, coloured ceramics and, most recently, the first watch cases made with a Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC).

The Ingenieur Automatic 42 (Ref. IW338903) combines the Gérald Genta-derived integrated bracelet design with a full ceramic execution for the first time. The case ring,

bezel and case back ring are all made of black zirconium oxide ceramic. Even addon parts like the crown protection and the crown are made of this extremely hard and scratch-resistant material. Connecting to the case via its middle links, the integrated black ceramic bracelet offers perfect ergonomics. As ceramic is a particularly light material, the bracelet is highly comfortable to wear. The black dial features the characteristic “Grid” structure consisting of small lines and squares, a hallmark design feature of the IWC Ingenieur. Ensuring excellent legibility, the black hands and metal markers are filled with Super-LumiNova®.

MULTI -PART PURE CERAMIC CASE CONSTRUCTION

The Ingenieur Automatic 42 represents a true-toproportion ceramic execution of the emblematic Ingenieur design that is as slim as possible. To achieve this, IWC opted

for a pure ceramic case construction with three parts. The case ring, bezel and case back ring are all made of ceramic. As the bezel and the case back ring are secured to the case ring with functional screws, this construction also requires a titanium ring on the inside. The ring accommodates the screws from the front and the back, holds the movement and contributes to a high water resistance of 10 bar. Instead of being held by the titanium ring, the sapphire crystals on the front and the back are pressed directly into the ceramic parts. This innovative new approach makes it possible to achieve a ceramic translation where the case construction remains perfectly faithful to the original stainless steel design. Maintaining the characteristic proportions and intricate angles of the Ingenieur while ensuring structural integrity and waterproofing marks an outstanding design and engineering achievement.

A HIGH LEVEL OF DETAIL IN THE CERAMIC FINISHING

With a hardness value of about 1300 Vickers, zirconium oxide ceramic ranks among the hardest materials on Earth. After the sintering process, ceramic can only be processed using diamond-tipped tools. For the Ingenieur Automatic 42, IWC has pushed the boundaries in ceramic finishing. The case components are satinfinished and then treated with a smooth sand-blasting, with a delicate polishing around their edges. The bracelet links boast the same elaborate surface treatment with a combination of satin-finishing, sandblasting and polishing. This multi-stage and highly complex finishing results in a refined aesthetic, offering the perfect level of light reflection.

PELLATON WINDING SYSTEM WITH CERAMIC COMPONENTS

The Ingenieur Automatic 42 is powered by the IWC-manufactured 82110 calibre. Its Pellaton winding system efficiently converts movements of the oscillating mass in both directions to energy for the mainspring, building up a power reserve of 60 hours. Components of the winding system that are subject to high stress are made of virtually wear-free zirconium oxide ceramic. The automatic wheel and the clicks are made of black ceramic, while the rotor bearing is made of white ceramic. The balance oscillates at a rate of 4 Hertz, ensuring precise timekeeping. The movement is visible through a tinted sapphire glass case back, complementing the watch’s all-black design.

As the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team gears up for the new season, IWC Schaffhausen launches a new team watch reinforcing its longstanding partnership with the team.

The Pilot’s Watch Mark XX Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team has a matte grey case crafted from lightweight and robust titanium. It features a black dial with details in Petronas green and a rubber strap in the same colour.

The Pilot’s Watch Mark XX Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team (Ref. IW328210) features

a 40-millimetre case crafted from lightweight and remarkably rigid grade 5 titanium. Offering the highest strength-to-density ratio of any metal, titanium is also used in automotive engineering to produce car parts subject to immense stress, such as engine valves. After machining and sandblasting, the surface retains an attractive greyish shimmer. Printed numerals and indices in the team’s signature Petronas green contrast the black dial. The hands for the hours, minutes and seconds are coated with Super-LumiNova® of the same colour.

The case back is engraved with small hexagons as well as “Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team”. Inside the case is the IWC-manufactured 32111 calibre, an automatic movement with a power reserve of 120 hours. Water-resistant to 10 bar, this watch is fitted with a Petronas green rubber strap featuring the EasX-CHANGE® strap change system. The Pilot’s Watch Mark XX Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team will be worn trackside by team members including mechanics, engineers and race strategists during the 2025 season.

THE VISIONARY WHO REDEFINED LUXURY IN RACKET SPORTS

From Grand Slam courts to iconic floating matches and VIP spaces at Paris Saint-Germain, Adel Aref has spent more than two decades redefining how racket sports intersect with luxury, entertainment, and global influence. Franco-Tunisian, multilingual, and internationally respected, his journey spans elite tennis officiating, premium sports hospitality, padel’s professional rise, and now the future of pickleball and bespoke sports consultancy through AA Solutions. In this interview, Adel Aref shares his vision of sport as culture, spectacle, and a powerful platform for influence.

You began your career as one of the youngest Gold Badge referees in tennis history. How did that early recognition shape your mindset about excellence and discipline?

Starting tennis at age 8 between London and Tunis, I learned early that excellence requires consistency and attention to detail. Earning the Gold Badge at 24 taught me that in elite sport, every decision matters. That mindset, excellence isn’t negotiable, has guided everything since.

Officiating 26 Grand Slams and three Olympic Games is a rare achievement. What moments most defined you during those years on court?

The longevity itself. Being consistently trusted by international bodies over years built my credibility. I learned that in high-pressure moments, you must be invisible when things go right and decisive when they don’t.

The Federer–Nadal floating court match in Doha became legendary. What sparked the idea of turning a tennis match into a global spectacle?

I realized tennis didn’t have to be confined to traditional stadiums. The floating court showed that racket sports could be elevated into premium entertainment,

sport as theater and culture, not just competition.

You’ve often spoken about sport as entertainment. Where do you draw the line between competition and showmanship?

The competition must always be authentic. Showmanship is about presentation, atmosphere, storytelling, but never compromises the integrity of the sport itself. Elite athletes want both: world-class competition in extraordinary settings.

At Paris Saint-Germain, you transformed the Carré VIP into a hub of culture, diplomacy, and influence. What does “luxury hospitality” truly mean in a sports context?

Luxury hospitality is creating spaces where power, culture, and sport intersect naturally. It’s about access, exclusivity, and invisible precision knowing what someone needs before they ask. That’s true luxury.

Hosting global icons like Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Leonardo DiCaprio requires more than access. What is the secret behind managing high-profile personalities seamlessly?

Discretion, anticipation, and respect. The best hospitality is invisible: everything works perfectly without them ever thinking about the machinery behind it. You can’t fake authenticity.

How did your background in elite tennis help you raise standards in football hospitality at PSG?

Tennis taught me precision and protocol. I applied Grand Slam standards to PSG—worldclass service, attention to detail, international protocol. Tennis showed me what excellence looks like; PSG gave me the platform to implement it at scale.

Padel has seen explosive global growth. As Tour Director of Premier Padel, what were the key pillars you focused on to professionalize the sport?

Three pillars: infrastructure (24-stage circuit, consistent standards), player experience (quality facilities, competitive prize pools), and global credibility (world-class production, strategic positioning as premium entertainment).

What lessons from tennis did you deliberately transfer to padel—and which ones did you have to reinvent?

From tennis: player relations, tournament standards, premium positioning. What I reinvented: the entertainment model. Padel is faster, more social, younger audience, it needed its own identity, not a tennis imitation.

Managing the career of Ons Jabeur adds another dimension to your profile. How does cultural proximity influence trust in athlete management?

Shared language and cultural context create a foundation of trust that’s difficult to replicate. I understand the pressures she faces representing Tunisia and the Arab world. That cultural connection allows efficient communication and mutual respect.

You are now launching Top Series Pickleball in EMEA. Why do you believe pickleball is the next major racket sport for the region?

Pickleball has everything EMEA needs: accessibility, speed, social appeal, explosive growth momentum. Tennis is established, padel is booming, pickleball is the next frontier. We’re at the inflection point, Top Series will professionalize it before anyone else does.

How will you differentiate Top Series Pickleball from existing circuits in terms of experience, image, and prestige?

Three pillars: Experience (premium hospitality, world-class player services), Image (positioning as entertainment and lifestyle, not amateur sport), Prestige (WPA

ranking integration, competitive prize pools, flagship cities, premium brand partnerships). We’re applying 25 years of racket sports expertise from day one.

Across tennis, padel, and pickleball, what common thread defines a “premium” racket sports experience?

Never compromise on quality. Premium means worldclass facilities, professional treatment, sophisticated production, attention to detail. Excellence is felt, not announced, it’s in the seamless execution.

With the creation of AA Solutions, you move into agency leadership. What gaps in the market are you aiming to fill?

We go beyond traditional sports management: athlete career strategy, tournament development, premium experience design, brand positioning. Few people have operated at elite levels across multiple racket sports and premium hospitality. That’s what AA Solutions offers.

Looking ahead, how do you see racket sports evolving as platforms for global influence, luxury branding, and cultural impact?

Racket sports are becoming platforms for lifestyle, culture, business, and influence not just sport. The future is convergence: creating experiences, building communities, generating cultural moments. Luxury brands see racket sports as ideal partnerships. The circuits that succeed will understand this evolution.

Aston Martin DB12 S: The new pinnacle of performance and style

Aston Martin is proud to announce a new DB12 halo model, the DB12 S. Taking the thrilling, driver-focussed DB12 as its start point, DB12 S builds on that pioneering recipe of intensely dynamic ultra-luxury performance by adding more power and even greater dynamic prowess. Together with striking exterior changes and extensive interior enhancements, DB12 S is the new pinnacle of Super Tourer.

Joining DBX S and Vantage S, DB12 S is the latest to honour Aston Martin’s long tradition of applying the ‘S’ suffix to the highest performing derivative of an established model. This custom began in 1953 with the glorious DB3S road racer. More recent examples include the first and second generation Vanquish S –launched in 2004 and 2016 respectively - V8 and V12 Vantage S models introduced in 2011 and 2013, and the magnificent four-seater Rapide S, also launched in 2013.

The heart of the DB12 S is an even more potent version of the formidable Aston Martin 4.0-Litre Twin-Turbo V8. Now with 700PS @ 6000rpm - an increase of 20PS - and 800Nm delivered between 3000 and 6000rpm, the DB12 S offers scintillating response, relentless acceleration and a 202mph top speed.

In keeping with this intensified spirit, DB12 S features a distinctive new exhaust sound character. The new quad tailpipe stainless steel sports exhaust system has been tuned to accentuate the engine frequencies throughout the rev range for added depth and potency. An optional titanium exhaust system amplifies that soundtrack, further boosting the bass, mid and treble frequencies uplifting the sound level by 1.5dB. while also reducing weight by 11.7kg compared to the stainless steel system.

Calibration changes to the powertrain have optimised the Launch

Control system, reducing gearshift times by more than 50% and contributing to a 0.1sec improvement in 0-60mph time, which is now just 3.4 seconds. Aston Martin engineers have further honed the throttle pedal calibration, introducing a more progressive throttle pedal feel with a new S-specific drive-by-wire throttle map to give the driver an even greater sense of connection and control.

An extensive package of chassis changes, target a commensurate increase in the driver’s sense of agility, connection and precision together with improvements in feel and composure. Software changes to the Bilstein DTX dampers to improve roll and pitch control work in harmony with a stiffer rear anti-roll bar and finessed camber, toe and castor geometry settings. Combining these changes bring improvements in front-end confidence and overall agility feel.

Additional tuning of the steering calibration and electronic rear differential (E-diff) has enabled Aston Martin’s chassis engineers to dial-in further connection and response for even more natural and intuitive feel. With the ability to use more throttle earlier in the corner for maximum satisfaction from corner entry to exit, DB12 S achieves an impeccable balance of agility and exploitability, together with an underlying stability for ultimate confidence and enjoyment.

Another significant upgrade for the DB12 S is the standard fitment of Carbon Ceramic Brakes (CCB). Offering increased braking performance and thermal capacity together with a significant reduction in unsprung weight, the CCBs – 410mm diameter at the front, 360mm at the rear - combine linear brake response and consistent pedal feel with exceptional resistance to fade. They also save 27kg of unsprung weight compared to steel brakes, which brings benefits to ride quality, steering feel and dynamic handling behaviour.

The DB12 S also benefits from the next generation of corner braking

control system (CBC), which optimises interaction between the Integrated Brake Slip Control and the Integrated Vehicle Control modules. A predictive function within the CBC allows the car to maintain optimum stability while trail braking into a corner, using more of the rear braking performance to maintain a tighter line from corner entry to apex.

This system allows the driver to brake later and with improved stability, the Integrated Brake Slip Control system providing torque vectoring across the rear axle to provide predictable, precise and consistent cornering behaviour in all driving environments, from twisting country roads, high-speed

highway junction exits or driving on a racetrack.

Aston Martin Director of Vehicle Performance, Simon Newton said “The technology we introduced with the DB12 now allows us exceptional scope to explore a new depth of character and capability within the same vehicle platform. With DB12 S we have carefully engineered a host of detailed changes, which, preserve signature levels of refinement, boost vehicle performance and amplify driver engagement. Having added this greater dynamic and performance bandwidth to DB12 S, we believe this elevates the Super Tourer ethos to a thrilling new level.”

Need for Speed

Visually, the new DB12 S reflects its significantly bolstered performance and sporting feel with a striking new look. Starting at the front, the DB12 S is identified by new dual element front splitter and new bonnet louvres, with each performing a functional and aesthetic role.

The splitter visually lowers and widens the DB12 S to create a more assertive look, while also generating downforce and guiding airflow in and around the front wheel arches to stabilise airflow and further reduce lift. The bonnet louvres – finished in gloss black or optional 2x2 Twill Carbon Fibre - aid extraction of hot air from the ‘hot-V’ configured 4.0-litre V8 while completing DB12 S’s more aggressive frontal aspect.

Moving to the flanks, DB12 S features gloss black sill additions. These continue the line formed by the new front splitter, further enhancing the ground-hugging stance. DB12 S also continues the tradition of carrying S badges in key locations. Specifically, on the

fenders just below each side strake. Featuring a hand-made, in either bright or dark chrome, forged ‘S’ badge completed with red glass enamel, it is a discreet but enduring mark of performance.

The rear design of the DB12 S makes an emphatic statement, capturing the essence of boosted power, sharpened dynamics and an unforgettable soundtrack. Once again aerodynamics play a major role, the fixed rear spoiler adding drama and increasing high speed stability. Below sits the new rear diffuser, which reduces lift while allowing space for the DB12 S signature stacked pairs of exhaust tailpipes, which are framed within a broader rear bumper for maximum visual impact.

In common with its ‘S’ badged stablemates in the revitalised Aston Martin range, the interior of DB12 S features a host of distinguishing details unique to the halo model. Foremost amongst these is a red anodised finish to the knurled metal drive mode rotary controller, which

also informs the colour of the seatbelts, contrast seat welts, contrast stitching and headrest embroidery.

Amongst the enticing options offered on DB12 S are an Alcantara® heated sports steering wheel, and the iconic Aston Martin wings applied to the seat headrests by an industry-first technique using both embossing and debossing for unprecedented precision and sculptural depth.

What inspired you to create the brand, and what vision did you set out with when you began this journey into ultra-luxury?

The brand started from the desire to create something truly high-end with real craftsmanship at the center. We didn’t want to do what many luxury brands do today—mass produce or dilute quality. The vision from the beginning was to open multiple boutiques in the most important markets right away, locations like Beverly Hills, New York, Miami, London, and Dubai, instead of slowly entering the market. No one has really launched this way before, and we felt this was the

right strategy to build instant credibility and show the level of brand we are building.

How would you describe the Abel Richard design DNA, and what makes your creations stand apart in today’s world of luxury?

The pieces are meant to feel like works of art, not just accessories. We’re coming out with six designs and 19 variations at launch, and each variation gives a completely different emotional response because of how we change metals, finishes, and stones. We don’t plan to fill boutiques with racks of product; we present the bags almost like museum pieces, on pedestals and behind glass, so the focus stays on craftsmanship, rarity, and the beauty of each design.

How do you strike the balance between classic Italian craftsmanship and advanced technology in your pieces?

Everything is made in Italy, mainly in Bassano del Grappa, where we have long-standing artisanal manufacturing and are expanding our facilities. At the same time, we use advanced processes where needed, like engraving pieces for 24 hours with multiple tooling changes, custom molds, and partnerships with suppliers who work in Formula racing and ultra-high-end automotive manufacturing. The goal is to honor traditional Italian craftsmanship while also incorporating technical precision when it elevates the result.

Can you tell us about the use of high-tech materials and intricate techniques and how they reshape what we traditionally perceive as luxury?

We work with partners who make carbon fiber for Formula 3 race cars and brands like Pagani. We also explore sapphire glass and precious stones like rubies and emeralds in certain designs. Some parts of the bags require specialty engraving and long machine

cycles, combined with hand-finishing. Luxury, for us, is in the level of detail, the technical difficulty, and the time and expertise behind each piece, not shortcuts.

The Abel Richard universe spans handbags, fragrances, eyewear, and jewelry. What unites these categories under one brand, and what emotional experience do you want people to feel when they own an Abel Richard creation?

Handbags lead the brand, but the boutiques will also include fragrance, eyewear, belts, and other accessories as they’re developed.

The idea is to create a full luxury environment where everything reflects the same standard of excellence and attention to detail. Clients should feel catered to, with VIP rooms, exceptional hospitality, and an elevated environment—the way true high-net-worth clients expect to be treated.

How have your personal experiences shaped your approach to luxury, and what drives you to constantly push the limits of creativity?

Being deeply involved in manufacturing and luxury production taught us how much detail truly matters. We’re very intentional about every decision, even things like choosing leather interiors on certain bags because the quality and feel needed to match the level of the piece, while still offering vegan options and responsible sourcing.

It all comes down to delivering pieces and experiences that stand up to the highest scrutiny.

Looking ahead, what is your long-term vision for Abel Richard? How do you see the brand evolving, and what legacy do you hope to leave in the world of luxury?

Our first boutique just opened in Beverly Hills, and that moment really set the tone for where the brand is headed. Each location is designed to be an experience—refined, intimate, and thoughtfully curated—and we’ll continue opening in key global luxury markets as we scale. Our production philosophy is intentional and limited. We don’t want to flood the world with products.

The goal is to create rare pieces that are meant to be cherished, not collected in volume. Pricing begins at the ultra-luxury level, starting at more than $100,000, and each bag is crafted with the same level of precision, detail, and emotional impact. Long-term, the vision is to build a modern luxury house with a point of view, one that stands for integrity, artistry, and excellence in every aspect, from design and materials to hospitality and client experience.
