We are delighted to welcome our first Sixth Form pupils in August 2026, marking an exciting milestone in Brighton College (Singapore)’s journey and our ongoing commitment to shaping bright, curious, and ambitious minds.
Guided by the same ethos of academic excellence and intellectual ambition that defines Brighton College in the UK, consistently named ‘School of the Decade’ and celebrated for its exceptional A-level results, we are proud to uphold the same world-class academic standards here in Singapore.
Our A-level Programme will give pupils an extended pathway to challenge themselves, explore their interests in real depth and prepare with confidence for top universities worldwide. With a broad choice of subjects, they can shape a programme that reflects their strengths and aspirations, supported by inspiring teachers who know them well and champion their success.
There has never been a better time to join our vibrant Brighton community. Apply now and be part of this remarkable new chapter!

Roger Harrold, President’s
Dear Members,
Lunar New Year is just around the corner. Each year on the second day of Lunar New Year, we invite a Lion Dance troupe to parade through the Club, bringing good luck, health, and prosperity to all. Our Main Committee members will also join in the festivities, taking part in the traditional “Lo Hei” toss, a ritual symbolising abundance and success. It is always a joyful and lively celebration, and I warmly encourage all members to join us in the celebration on Wednesday, 18th February.
As we welcome the Year of the Horse, I am reminded our sponsored horse at Riding for the Disabled (RDA) Singapore, one of our cherished charity partners. This year the Club will be donating again to support RDA from the members funds raised throughout the year from various activities in Club including the funds from the British Club Charity Ball. Our commitment to giving back remains an important part of who we are as a Club.
I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce our Club’s committees. We currently have 12 committees, each playing a vital role in shaping the Club’s activities, operations, and future direction. I encourage members to consider joining a committee—every voice matters, and your contribution can help strengthen the Club and build an even more vibrant community.
Members who are interested in joining a committee may write in to GM@britishclub.org.sg. Our committees include:
• Data & Information Technology Committee
• Finance Committee
• Food & Beverage Committee
• Marketing & Communications Committee
• Membership & Rules Committee
• Sports Committee
• Sustainability Committee
• Activities & Events Committee
I wish all our members and their families a very happy and prosperous Lunar New Year. May this year bring good health, happiness, and continued success to all!

As we step into the second month of the year, I am delighted to welcome members to a vibrant and festive February at the Club. Though a short month, our calendar is filled with exciting activities, lively celebrations and exceptional experiences for all.
We usher in the Lunar New Year with a rich line-up of festivities, from specially curated seasonal menus to the spectacular lion dance performances that will bring colour, energy and good fortune throughout the Club. It will be a celebration for the senses and one not to be missed.

February is also the month of love, and our Valentine’s Day offerings promise a truly memorable evening. Couples can look forward to our exclusive Mountbatten Set Menu Dinner, complemented by live music, roses for the ladies and a framed photo keepsake to remember the night.

Wednesday, 7th January
We were thrilled to welcome the British Army Tennis Team to the Club in January, joined by the British High Commissioner, Mr Nikesh Mehta. After a short tour of the facilities, the team took to the courts for a friendly match, followed by dinner at SCORES.
It was a wonderful way to celebrate the strong ties between the UK and Singapore, and we look forward to welcoming them back again soon.

I am a computer scientist. I care about finding new ways to express my creativity. I believe in having fun while I learn.
“At Dulwich College (Singapore), computer science isn’t just about coding. It’s a way to tell my stories and bring my ideas to life. I love making games and animations, changing characters and backgrounds to create something unique. My teachers at Dulwich help me to explore, experiment, and grow my creativity. Each lesson feels like an adventure, where I use my curiosity and imagination to turn technology into something magical.”

Get to know James, one of our newest members, and his young family as they begin their journey at the Club. From settling into family life to discovering favourite dining spots and weekend rituals, he shares what drew them to the Club and how it has already become part of their routine.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your family — and what inspired you to join The British Club?
Our family comprises my wife Grace, our son Rory, our British Shorthair cat (Nelson), and me.
Grace is from Singapore but studied and lived in London for a decade, while I’ve been in Singapore for almost 14 years. As a result, there’s a very healthy Singapore–UK mix in our Holland Grove household.
We’d visited the Club many times with friends, but decided to look into membership after Rory was born, mainly for the facilities and the opportunity for him to grow up with a kids’ community.
We’ve been members of a “rival club” in the CBD for many years, but given the proximity to our home, the fantastic facilities and service, the family-friendly environment, and the fact that so many of our friends are members, joining The British Club once Rory came along was a no-brainer. The food being great certainly helped too.

How long have you been a member of The British Club, and what keeps your family coming back?
We’ve only just joined and are still finding our way around. At the moment, we’re working our way through the Windsor Arms and Verandah menus and using the pool when we can. The fish and chips and Sunday Roast are already firm favourites, and we enjoyed two great Christmas dinners at the Club this year.
Any favourite moments with your child at the Club?
Rory is just one and still experimenting with new foods. He’s already embraced peas and loves playing with the beermats at the Windsor Arms, enthusiastically distributing them around the pub — much to the staff’s mild disappointment when they have to tidy up after the little “litter bug”. He loves water too, so we’re really looking forward to getting him into the pool soon.
What’s one thing about your job that might surprise people?
Grace and I are both lawyers, and the Hollywood misconception is that we spend our days surrounded by books, attending court, and deliberately trying to confuse the public. In reality, neither of us has been to court since training, Grace’s office doesn’t have a library, we don’t understand any Latin, and I haven’t worn a suit to work regularly since before Covid.
With such a busy and global career, how does the Club help you to switch off, recharge, and spend time with loved ones?
It’s quite simple — The British Club combines great food and drink, top-notch leisure facilities, and full access to all the main sports channels. A Sunday Roast with a Guinness and either football or cricket on the TV is the solution to any stress, at least for Rory and me. Grace may have a slightly different view on the sport.

By Natasha Garcha, member of the Club since August, 2025

Sustainability isn’t only about what we protect in the world around us—it’s also about what we strengthen within ourselves. When our minds are overloaded and our bodies run on empty, even the best intentions can slip. That’s why, as part of the British Club Sustainability Committee, I wanted to begin the Year of the Horse with a simple idea: resilience is a sustainability practice—one that helps us show up with consistency, not burnout.
I learned this from a horse named Silverlining, who taught me through presence rather than words. He could sense my mood before I could name it and gently guide me back to calm. Over time, I realised that calm can be trained into the body like a reflex. In a period of global uncertainty and constant change in the sustainability space where I work, that steadiness has become invaluable.
It’s one reason I love living in Singapore, where equine-assisted wellbeing continues to grow, supported by organisations such as Equal ARK and the Riding for the Disabled Association, helping more people experience the powerful benefits of horse–human connection.
• Emotional regulation: Horses respond instantly to our breath, posture, and energy, encouraging grounding and self-awareness.
• Confidence and boundaries: Working with a powerful animal builds calm leadership, trust, and consistency.
• Mind–body connection: Gentle movement and sensory engagement reduce stress and support emotional balance.
Bringing the “Year of the Horse” into daily life at the British Club
Think rhythm, empathy, and community.
1. Move with intention
Exercise supports mental wellbeing and reduces stress, while breath-led practices strengthen the mind–body link.
Action: Choose what suits you—yoga, Barre, or a high-energy martial arts session at the Club.
2. Give with purpose
Giving is consistently linked to higher wellbeing and stronger connection.
Action: Support the Sustainability Committee’s charity drives. We’re proud to share that the Club has contributed
S$40,000 to the Riding for the Disabled Association so far, with plans to continue in 2026.
3. Belong on purpose
Community is a powerful stabiliser when life feels uncertain.
Action: Join a Club committee or interest group. We’d warmly welcome new members to the Sustainability Committee —I’ve recently joined the Book Club myself and am looking forward to it.
As we step into the Year of the Horse, may we build resilience, ask for support when needed, and strengthen the steady foundations that allow sustainability to thrive.
Wishing all British Club members a grounded, energised, and meaningful Year of the Horse.

In December, we celebrated two team members who make the Club such a special place.
Warren Teh from the Membership Department was recognised as the Face of the Club for his welcoming presence and for guiding prospective members on Club tours, helping them feel at home from the very first visit. Chef Kok Liang from the SCORES Kitchen received the Heart of the Club award for his passion and behind-the-scenes dedication to preparing comforting dishes that members know and love.

Last December, our staff gathered for a Townhall session to reflect on the year’s achievements and celebrate the festive season together. The occasion featured delicious festive food, plenty of cakes, and a warm, celebratory atmosphere. We also took the opportunity to celebrate our colleagues with December birthdays, making it a joyful time for everyone!

For over 20 years, Chef Fairuz has been a familiar face at The British Club, recently recognised with his 25-Year Long Service Award. From banquet and buffet favourites to snacks at children’s camps, his cooking has been part of many memorable Club moments. Read on to learn more about his journey and what continues to inspire him!
You’ve been with the Club for over 20 years. What has kept you inspired and passionate about cooking here all these years?
What’s kept me inspired is the people and the purpose. Cooking at the Club has never just been about making meals—it’s about creating experiences for members and their families, celebrating milestones, and honouring traditions while continuing to evolve. I’ve been fortunate to work with talented teams, mentor young cooks, and refine both classic dishes and new ideas. The Club has grown over the years, and I’ve grown with it. That strong sense of community and pride is what continues to fuel my passion.
You’ve cooked for countless Club events and buffets. Is there a particular dish or menu that holds special meaning for you?
Without a doubt, our holiday menus, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, hold the most meaning for me. They bring together everything I love about cooking here: tradition, teamwork, and celebration. Preparing those meals year after year and seeing generations of families come together over familiar dishes is incredibly rewarding. There are also signature buffet items members still ask for decades later, which is humbling and a reminder that food creates lasting memories.
What do you enjoy most about preparing food for large celebrations and family gatherings at the Club?
I enjoy the energy and connection that come with those events. There’s something special about seeing families and friends gather, knowing the food plays a role in bringing them together. Large celebrations are a true team effort, and I love the rhythm of the kitchen on those days with everyone focused and supporting one another. Seeing guests enjoy themselves makes it all incredibly satisfying.
If you weren’t a chef, what do you think you’d be doing instead?
I think I’d still be in a service-driven role, perhaps coaching, teaching, or managing a team. I’ve always enjoyed mentoring others, working toward shared goals, and being part of a structured, fast-paced environment. Cooking just happens to be the way I’ve been able to do that.
How has the Club’s food scene changed since your early days in the kitchen?
The Club’s food scene has evolved significantly. In the early days, the focus was on classic dishes done well, with less emphasis on trends or dietary preferences. Over time, we’ve introduced more international flavours, seasonal menus, and options for different lifestyles, without losing what members expect. Presentation and technology have also improved, allowing us to be more creative and efficient, while the focus on quality remains unchanged.
If you could describe The British Club in one dish, what would it be?
I’d describe The British Club as a classic roast dinner with all the trimmings. It’s timeless, comforting, and brings people together, reflecting tradition and care in every detail. Like the Club itself, it blends familiarity with thoughtful touches, making each experience feel special.

As the morning mist clung to the Bukit Timah greenery this quarter, the British Club Open Age squad found themselves navigating a period of transition that would have tested even the most seasoned gaffer. The first half of the season has been, in footballing parlance, a “character-building” stretch.
The campaign began with the squad feeling slightly threadbare following the departure of several stalwarts. Losing key players is never ideal, particularly when their replacements are still learning which teammates prefer the ball to feet and which prefer to chase a lost cause into the corner flag. However, the appointment of a new management team has brought a welcome sense of order to the chaos. With a fresh playing style and clearer structure, the side has begun to shed its “work in progress” label in favour of something far more competitive.
While the early fixtures yielded a run of narrow losses, the tide began to turn as the Christmas lights went up. The squad’s growing familiarity with the new system manifested in a series of gritty, well-earned draws. These weren’t just results; they were statements of resilience, proving that the British Club is no longer a side content to simply participate, but one that is increasingly difficult to beat.
The crescendo of the quarter was a spirited encounter against our old rivals, Hibs. Though we were ultimately undone by a few early goals that left us chasing shadows in the opening stages, the subsequent performance was arguably our most encouraging to date. The lads showed immense character to steady the ship, dominating long periods of play and reminding the league that we possess genuine quality.
The festive cheer was slightly tempered by the sudden departure of Assistant Manager Alex. His exit caught many in the dressing room by surprise, leaving a tactical void just as the team was finding its rhythm. As we look toward the second half of the season, the focus now shifts to how the management group evolves and whether the team can turn those encouraging draws into the three-point hauls their effort deserves.
For those new to the British Club Football Section, we have been cultivating a thriving football community for nearly 20 years. We offer regular 5-, 7-, and 11-a-side football for all ages, from 16 to 67+. If you’re keen to join the fun and enjoy some competitive football in the heart of Singapore, please reach out to football@britishclub.org.sg or speak to the friendly staff at the Pro Shop. We look forward to welcoming you to the pitch.

2026 is upon us. We’ve likely seen off 2025 in a blur of festive activities and overconsumption. Some New Year’s resolutions may have been considered—perhaps even jotted down and started. Will they be sustainable? Only time will tell.
Here’s a suggestion: if you’ve played tennis, squash, badminton, or pickleball, why not try padel? This exciting sport is one of the fastest-growing games in the world. While Singapore now has more padel courts, it can still be costly and challenging to secure court time. The British Club Padel Section removes much of that hassle— simply sign up, turn up, and play every Tuesday evening. Costs are also reduced, thanks to our partnership with Singpadel, which offers members a 20% discount on court fees.
For those new to racquet sports, we’re also working with Singpadel to arrange novice coaching sessions, helping beginners get familiar with the game and build confidence before joining our social padel sessions.
The appeal of padel is threefold. First, it’s a fascinating game built on teamwork, communication, angles, and strategy. Second, it’s highly social—you’ll meet plenty of new and interesting people. And third, it’s a great way to tick off those pesky New Year exercise resolutions.
We look forward to seeing you on the courts!

What a year 2025 has been for the Pickleball Section! We’ve seen tremendous growth, more courts buzzing with social play, and a real sense of energy building around the game. Best of all, it’s been wonderful to see a vibrant community forming — not just on court, but beyond the Club as well. A special congratulations to Douglas and Yun Ying Leow on the arrival of their beautiful baby girl, Elizabeth, on 16 December 2025 — we are delighted to proudly welcome the newest (and youngest!) member of our pickleball family.
We wrapped up the year on a high with the introduction of beginner coaching, making it easier than ever for new players to pick up a paddle and get started. Looking ahead to 2026, there’s plenty to be excited about, with more friendly matches, competitions, and even trips on the horizon.
If a healthier, more active lifestyle is on your 2026 wish list, why not give pickleball a try? With our beginner-friendly coaching sessions, you’ll be rallying in no time — and having plenty of fun along the way.
We can’t wait to see what the next year brings for our growing Pickleball community.

As the sun sets on another year at the British Club, the Masters Swimming squad reflects on a 2025 defined by commitment in the lanes and camaraderie beyond them. From humid early-morning sessions to festive year-end celebrations, it has been a standout year both in and out of the water.
The Long Game: 400km and Counting
In 2025, our programmed workouts totalled an impressive 400km. For those clocking regular sessions, that distance represents thousands of tumble turns and countless intervals under the Singapore sun. Whether training for BC Galas, triathlons, or personal goals, the dedication was unmistakable. Our triathletes enjoyed a strong season, carrying their pool work onto podiums around the region.
The annual Gili Islands trip once again proved to be the soul of our season. Swapping pool lanes for open water, swimmers embraced ocean swells, sea turtles, and adventure. It served as a reminder that while we train with purpose, we also train for experiences beyond the clock.
The “Fourth Discipline”: Social Recovery
Recovery matters, and 2025 delivered on the social front:
• The Breakfast Club rewarded early starts with post-swim breakfasts and lively lane-side conversations.
• Curry & Wine Nights saw goggles swapped for glasses, strengthening bonds long after training ended.
• The Durian Challenge tested even the bravest swimmers—nearly as daunting as a 400m IM.
• Quiz Night Success proved that Masters swimmers are quick thinkers as well as fast sprinters, with several quiz trophies added to the cabinet.
We closed the year with a Christmas Party that celebrated PBs, near-misses, and the community that makes BC Masters more than just a swim squad. Formalwear replaced racing skins, but the team spirit remained the same.
• Total Distance: 400km
• Key Highlights: Gili Islands, local Galas, and standout social events
• Fuel Mix: Adrenaline, espresso, and champagne
A heartfelt thank you to our coaches and swimmers for another memorable year. We’ll see you at the wall in 2026.

As we look back on 2025, it’s gratifying to see the Squash Section in such strong shape, with around 75 members and a lively buzz of activity and camaraderie on and off the courts. We also bid farewell to several much-loved members this year, including long-standing figures such as Charlie Thomas, Oliver Hopkins, Martin Verga, Steve Settle, and Simon Bird—characters who will be greatly missed, even as we welcome new members into the fold.
On the competitive front, the Vets II team finished mid-table in the SSRA league under Andrew Marshall’s leadership, while the COSMO team enjoyed a strong season, finishing third under captain Rahul Ghosh. We also concluded our annual Handicap Tournament, with David Barkess winning the Plate final and Showbhik Kalra crowned 2025 Handicap Champion after a hard-fought five-game final against Ben Carpenter, with prizes kindly sponsored by Sports Finesse.

At the recent Squash Section AGM, the following executive positions were elected:
• Co-Convenor: Andrew Vine & Andrew Marshall
• Treasurer: Raymond Kwee
• Secretary: Ben Kiggell
This year, the Section will be led by not one but two Andrews, with Ben Kiggell moving from Treasurer to Secretary as Craig Telmer steps down, and Raymond Kwee joining as Treasurer. We’re grateful to Andrew Marshall and Raymond Kwee for stepping up to the Exco, and extend sincere thanks to the 2025 committee for their hard work and support throughout the year, with full committee appointments to be confirmed in January.
Following the AGM, several awards were presented: Aiden Arnold and Mackenzie Weeks shared the Most Improved Player award, Kevin Wotherspoon received Most Competitive Player, and the Good Fellowship Award went to David Barkess.

But there is one more award that exists, given only to very special people—only four other members have ever received it before—the “Friend for Life” award for outstanding service to the Squash Section. Over many years, as our former convenor, team captain, secretary (and honorary beer monitor), Craig Telmer has been firmly positioned “on the T,” as it were, at the centre of BC Squash. Now, as he steps down from the committee, this is an obvious and very popular award to bestow. Thank you, Craig, for the time, the energy, and the friendship.
And finally, to celebrate the end of another successful year, 26 members and spouses came together on December 4th for dinner and drinks on the Verandah Decking—a wonderful occasion to catch up socially before we all headed off in various directions for Christmas! Wishing everyone the very best for 2026 and for the Year of the Horse.
