n our Home for the Holidays edition, we visit a historic home on Ortiz Lane in central Taos, initially owned by the Ortiz family. Eliu Romero and his wife purchased the property and built the house in the 1950s; Eliu later founded Centinel Bank in Taos. As Tom Ryan, one of the current owners, noted, “horses grazed in the field behind the lane, and an irrigation channel still flows through the Ortiz properties.”
The Ryans bought the house in 2010 and renovated and expanded it to accommodate their extended family. They added a guest casita, a pergola, and landscaping to enhance the property.
With over 4,000 square feet, the Home has hosted many family gatherings over the years. “The holidays in Taos were almost always family affairs,” Tom recalled, enjoying the contrast between the chilly outdoors and the cozy fires inside.
Conveniently located within walking distance of seasonal events, the house is perfect for family gatherings, offering areas for both adults and children. After many years in Taos, the Rya
