Estate planning is an act of love, stewardship, and one of the most important ways to protect your legacy and ensure your wishes are honored. Still, having a will, trust, and powers of attorney isn’t a “oneand-done” event.
Life changes, and you should review and update your planning documents accordingly. Reviewing your plan every ten years, or sooner if you experience a major life event, financial changes, or shifts in circumstances, is highly recommended.
Marriage brings significant legal and financial changes and an opportunity to add your spouse as a fiduciary and beneficiary and update inheritance provisions.
Divorce, too, is a key time to revise your plan, update your executor, trustee, agent choices, and beneficiaries to ensure your goals and wishes are honored.
Remarriage may require balancing the interests of a new spouse and children from a previous relationship to prevent future disputes.
Changes in family relationships such as estrangement, reconciliation, or the birth or adoption of a child or grandchild should prompt updates to wills, trusts, and guardian designations. The death or incapacity of a spouse, beneficiary, executor, trustee, or guardian will likely require redistributing assets or
appointing new decision-makers.
A sudden increase in wealth through inheritance, a business sale, or legal settlement can raise new tax and planning considerations. A decrease in assets may require adjusting gifts to keep them fair and realistic. Buying or selling real estate, often a major estate asset, should also trigger updates to ensure titles and distributions align with your goals.
n Moving states: Updates help keep your documents valid.
n Tax law changes: Income, estate, or gift taxes may require restructuring.

Personalized holistic legal planning is an act of love, stewardship, and one of the most valued gifts you can invest in for your peace of mind now and for your family’s future.
At Ashley Day Law, we understand the wide variety of challenges facing families as they anticipate and experience life changes. Our firm is dedicated to providing clients with caring support, helpful and easy to understand information, and effective personalized legal planning. No matter what age or stage, it’s getting started that counts. We encourage you to contact us to discuss your needs and those of your family.
Sleepless nights, missed deadlines, falling asleep sitting up… a spouse or parent becoming ill may transform you into a caregiver once more. This time around it’s more challenging and there is no end in sight. Your family and friends notice that they haven’t seen or heard from you and when they do, it’s a frantic shell of your former self.
The real problem with our parents wanting the best for us - achieve, travel and become educated -is that we have evolved into someone that can do it all. What to do when faced with catastrophe? In the words of Elsa, just let it go! Here is a detailed to-do list so you can become the CEO instead of the workforce.
How To Do This?
2Find the expert who can answer your questions. This will start with an experienced elder law attorney who can advise you about what is available, costs, and needs.

1Get the best information. AI has been terrible and often gives false information that appears to be rock solid. Use the internet to craft questions.
3Accept help!! This seems like an easy one, but refusing to accept the help that is available is the biggest obstacle to your situation improving. You will need a village of medical, legal and caregiving experts. Find the best and accept their skills.
4Budget appropriately. Care costs money. Trying to save money, the caregiver often works themselves into terrible health, abruptly ending
the care. What happens to your loved one if there is no you? Spend the money for relief immediately. Find respite options, many of which are free. In the long run, the cost is much less.
5Be realistic. You cannot provide the best care for your loved one for years and years without a break. Find out what your options are.
6Be an advocate but understand limitations. It is your job to become educated but do not attempt to be an expert at everything, get the best people for the job and then trust their opinion.
7Craft a care plan that makes sense with advice. Use your time to ask questions, and under-
stand that no plan will be perfect.
8Spend time being their loved one. The best part of your village. Quality time is what your loved one will need more than bathing and dressing and feeding.
9Forgive yourself. It’s a terrible thing to realize your limitations but it is important. Make peace with your humanity.
10Review the plan with your experts. Make sure the plan is current and address any issues as they arise – and understand they will. ~

When scheduling an appointment at Naro Audiology and Hearing Solutions, patients can be confident that their hearing and overall wellness will be attended to with exceptional care.
Dr. Angelene Naro emphasizes, “Our mission is to provide professional audiological services and hearing health care while developing excellent rapport with our patients through individualized attention and personal, compassionate care”. Dr. Naro and her dedicated team strive to earn and maintain patients’ trust, creating care plans tailored from extensive research for each individual they treat.
Located in Foley, Alabama, Naro Audiology serves communities across the region, bringing top-quality hearing health services to their patients. In February 2021, Naro Audiology & Hearing Solutions announced a special partnership with the American Institute of Balance (AIB) in Largo, Florida—one of the nation’s preeminent facilities dedicated to diagnosing and treating equilibrium-related conditions. “We are proud to announce that AIB has qualified us as a Center of Specialty Care and we look forward to assisting patients with balance, equilibrium, vertigo, and dizziness concerns using the best equipment in the area,” shares Dr. Naro.
Naro Audiology addresses not only hearing impairments, but also bal-
ance and dizziness issues, enabling patients to lead fuller lives. Nationwide, hearing loss is affecting more Americans at younger ages—yet it can take up to seven years, on average, for someone to seek care for gradual hearing loss. Dr. Naro acknowledges the connection between hearing impairments and broader health issues, including the well-documented association with increased dementia risk. Research has revealed that untreated hearing loss is one of the most significant modifiable risk factors for cognitive decline. The earlier hearing loss is identified and managed, the better the outlook for sustained brain health.
The skilled team at Naro Audiology utilizes precise diagnostic testing and the latest technology to identify and treat both hearing and balance concerns efficiently. By developing individualized treatment plans, they strive to not only restore hearing and equilibrium but also enhance each patient’s overall quality of life. Their commitment to cutting-edge solutions includes hearing aids, custom hearing protection, assistive listening devices, and programs in partnership with leading scientific organizations.
Naro Audiology’s approach highlights the importance of proactive hearing care—not only for communication and social well-being, but also for its critical role in protecting cognitive health and reducing dementia risk. Learn more at Naroaudiology. com ~

Are you a senior homeowner looking for extra cash to live more comfortably? A reverse mortgage could be the solution you need! It’s a simple way to convert the equity in your home into tax-free income without the need to sell your property or make monthly mortgage payments.
With a reverse mortgage, you can access the money tied up in your home to pay for medical expenses, home repairs, daily living costs, or even travel and enjoy your retirement to the fullest. The best part? You continue to live in your home, with no monthly payments required. The loan is only repaid when you sell the house, move out, or pass away.
Why Consider a Reverse Mortgage?
Y No Monthly Payments: Enjoy the freedom of not worrying about mortgage payments.
Y Stay in Your Home: Keep your property while accessing its equity.
Y Flexibility: Use the funds for whatever you need, healthcare, debt relief, or simply improving your lifestyle.
Y Supplement Retirement Income: The money you receive is generally not considered taxable income.
Who Qualifies? To qualify, you must be 62 or older and own a home The amount you can borrow depends on factors like your home’s value, your age, and current interest rates.
Are you still wondering if a reverse mortgage could be right for you? You’re not alone. Many seniors feel uncertain about this option at first, but with the right guidance, it could make a huge difference in your financial well-being.

Nicole Cramer, MBA
That’s why we’re here to guide you through the process every step of the way. Don’t hesitate to explore your options. Your home could be the key to unlocking a brighter, more comfortable future.

Veterans deserve robust support after their service, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides benefits beyond medical care, including nonmedical support, home health agency services, and hospice care.
These programs aim to improve quality of life, maintain independence, and offer comfort when needed most. Here’s how Veterans and their families can tap into these valuable resources.
Non-medical benefits help Veterans with everyday tasks. The Veteran Directed Care (VDC) program lets Veterans hire aides—often family or friends—to assist with activities like bathing or cooking. It provides a monthly budget tailored to their needs, giving them control over their care. Another option, the Aid and Attendance (A&A) benefit, boosts pensions for Veterans needing help with daily activities or who are housebound. This extra funding can cover non-medical caregivers, supporting Veterans in staying at home comfortably.
For more structured assistance, the VA collaborates with home health agencies through the VA Home Health Care program. Certified aides provide non-medical help, such as personal care, light housekeeping, or mobility support. While not involving
skilled nursing, these services are vital for independence. Veterans must be enrolled in VA health care and show a need for aid, as determined by a VA provider. The Homemaker and Home Health Aide program offers similar support for those with chronic conditions, delivering consistent, personalized care.
For Veterans with terminal illnesses, the VA’s hospice care focuses on comfort, not cure, offering pain relief, emotional support, and family counseling. Available through VA facilities, community partners, or at home, the VA Hospice and Palliative Care program aligns with Veterans’ wishes, typically at no cost. Veterans on a VA pension may also use A&A benefits to help with expenses, reducing financial stress during this time.
Veterans can explore these options by contacting their local VA office or visiting VA.gov. Eligibility hinges on factors like service history, disability status, and income, so speaking with a VA representative is essential. These benefits honor Veterans by ensuring their comfort and independence throughout life’s stages, reflecting a national commitment to their well-being. ~

What is it:
Who is it for:
Medical care at home for patients with a lifelimiting illness. Hospice emphasizes palliative care rather than curative treatment. An interdisciplinary team (Doctor, Nurse, Aide, Social Worker, Chaplain and Volunteer Services) works together to help the patient, caregiver, and family.
Suitable for patient with a terminal illness. A doctor must refer a patient for hospice care.
At Gracepoint Home Care, our mission is to help seniors remain safe, comfortable, and independent in their own homes while giving families peace of mind. With the introduction of GraceLink Care Connect, we’re proud to offer a hybrid care model, blending the compassion of our caregivers with innovative technology that helps us respond to changes more quickly.
Take Mrs. Thompson, one of our clients. GraceLink Care Connect quietly recognized that she was making more trips to the bathroom than usual, something that might easily go unnoticed between visits. The system detected this care-related event and alerted our Gracepoint team. Because of that timely notification, we were able to arrange a urinalysis right away, confirm a urinary tract infection (UTI), and ensure Mrs. Thompson started antibiotics before the infection became more serious. Instead of risking hospitalization or days of discomfort, she was cared for quickly and comfortably at home.
knowing their loved one isn’t left unnoticed, and seniors gain the benefit of proactive care that helps them stay healthier, longer.
The benefits of this hybrid model include:
n Peace of Mind for Families: Loved ones know that if something changes, our team is notified right away.
n Proactive Intervention: Early detection helps prevent small issues, like Mrs. Thompson’s UTI, from becoming emergencies.
n Personalized Care: Insights from GraceLink allow us to adjust and tailor care plans.

n Extended Independence: With this added support, seniors can remain safely at home longer.
This is the power of GraceLink Care Connect. It works in the background to detect care-related events—such as changes in activity, potential falls, or unusual patterns—and sends alerts to our team so that we can take action. Families have peace of mind
At Gracepoint, we believe technology should never replace the human touch, it should enhance it. With GraceLink Care Connect, we’re able to deliver smarter, more responsive care while keeping compassion, dignity, and trust at the heart of everything we do.

Everyday life is made up of countless small routines—bathing in the morning, preparing meals, running errands, and keeping up with household tasks.
For older adults, maintaining independence often depends on their ability to manage these daily tasks, which are also known as activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).
Understanding ADLs isn’t just about checking off a list of tasks. It’s about recognizing the level of support someone may need to continue living safely and comfortably. Whether you’re planning ahead for yourself or noticing changes in a family member, knowing what these terms mean can help guide important decisions about senior care.
What Are ADLs?
ADLs, or Activities of Daily Living, are the essential self-care tasks that allow a person to function independently. Most people perform these core activities every day without much thought, but for some, they can become challenging over time.
The six primary ADLs include:
n Bathing – Maintaining personal hygiene through bathing or showering.
n Dressing – Selecting and putting on appropriate clothing.
n Grooming & Personal Hygiene –Brushing teeth, styling hair, and other grooming tasks.
n Toileting – Using the restroom independently, including personal
hygiene and continence.
n Mobility – Moving around safely, including walking, standing, and transferring from a bed or chair.
n Eating – The ability to feed oneself, whether by preparing food or using utensils.
When a person experiences challenges with one or more of these tasks, they may require additional support through assisted living or hands-on caregiving. Ensuring these needs are met not only promotes safety but also helps maintain a sense of dignity and confidence.
While ADLs focus on fundamental self-care, instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) involve the more complex skills needed to manage an independent lifestyle. These tasks require a higher level of cognitive function, organization, and decisionmaking abilities.
Common IADLs include:
n Meal Preparation – Cooking, grocery shopping, and handling food safely.
n Housekeeping – Cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a tidy home.
n Managing Medications – Taking medications on time and refilling prescriptions.
n Transportation – Driving or navigating public transportation.
n Shopping – Purchasing groceries, clothing, and other necessities.
n Managing Finances – Paying bills, budgeting, and handling money responsibly.
For many older adults, difficulties with IADLs signal the first signs of needing extra support. While some may still be able to live independently with occasional help, others may benefit from moving to a senior living community in Alabama, where these tasks are handled by a dedicated team.
Recognizing changes in a family member’s ability to manage ADLs and IADLs can help determine the best level of care. Community Senior Life offers a variety of senior living options to provide just the right amount of support while encouraging independence.
n Independent Living – Designed for individuals who can manage ADLs but may need help with certain IADLs, such as housekeeping or transportation.
n Assisted Living – Provides support with ADLs while allowing residents to maintain their independence in a secure and engaging environment.
n Memory Care – Specializes in assisting individuals with Alzheimer’s or dementia, ensuring their daily needs are met with compassionate care.
For families searching for what are ADLs and how they relate to senior care decisions, understanding the difference between ADLs and IADLs is the first step in finding the right level of support.
Recognizing When It’s Time for Additional Support
Changes in the ability to complete
ADLs and IADLs can happen gradually or suddenly. Paying attention to the small signs can help families plan ahead and avoid crisis-driven decisions.
Indicators that extra support may be needed include:
n Skipped meals or noticeable weight loss
n Missed medication doses or confusion about prescriptions
n Difficulty with personal hygiene or dressing appropriately
n Trouble maintaining a clean and safe home
n Signs of isolation or withdrawal from social activities
n Increased falls, accidents, or mobility challenges
Having open, honest conversations about these changes allows families to make informed decisions about senior living options in Alabama before safety becomes a concern.
Everyone deserves to live in a place where they feel comfortable, supported, and empowered to live life fully.
At Community Senior Life, residents receive compassionate care that adapts to their needs, whether they require assistance with ADLs, IADLs, or just want to enjoy an active, maintenance-free lifestyle. For those wondering “what are ADLs” and how they impact senior care decisions, our team is here to help.~
