Bring Nebraska WORDS Reading Practices to Life with the Seesaw Library

Supports K–3 Early Literacy Statewide
The project provides sustained support and professional development for kindergarten through third-grade teachers in Nebraska to deliver high-quality reading instruction and assessment.
Research-driven, Evidence-based Reading Methods
WORDS draws on reading science to teach educators evidence-based practices (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, data analysis, etc.) through structured training modules.
Comprehensive Teacher Training and Coaching
The program isn’t a single workshop; it includes ongoing professional development, one-on-one coaching, data-driven assessment training, and support for reading leadership at local schools.
Assessment and Intervention Support for Students
Teachers are trained to administer, interpret reading assessments reliably, identify students who need extra help, and provide targeted reading support or tutoring for struggling readers.
Ready-to-assign, engaging lessons support the essential components of reading emphasized by the Nebraska WORDS project, with built-in modeling, scaffolded practice, and interactive tools that help teachers assess, differentiate, and support every K-3 learner. 1 2 3 4 5
Aiming for Long-term, Scalable Impact
WORDS is part of broader state-wide literacy efforts under NebraskaREADS (driven by the Nebraska Reading Improvement Act), with a goal to improve early reading outcomes across districts and build local capacity for sustained literacy instruction.
