Brief overview of intended learning in Yr 9
Art & Design
Pupils in year 9 build upon key skills and knowledge they completed in year 7 and 8, where they were learning new skills, including refining their control and use of materials, with crea vity, experimenta on and an increasing awareness of different kinds of art, cra and design.
In year 9, pupils will be introduced to a range of ar sts (Historic and contemporary) and fully explore their way of working. Pupils will experiment with different ar s c techniques and styles to create their own pieces of work. Pupils will develop and refine their ar s c skills, through the use of clay, to create a sculpture inspired by the Ar st Hundertwasser and a drawing by contemporary ar st Iain MacArthur.
Tex les
Pupils in year 9 build upon key skills and knowledge they completed in year 7 and 8. They will have developed their research, designing and making skills crea ng a phone cover and stencilling a design onto a bag, They will have worked to a set design brief. They will have developed a range of prac cal skills, including cu ng fabric accurately, pinning fabric, sewing a range of s tches for decora on and prac cal purposes. They will have learnt to be prudent with materials.
Design & Technology Food Prepara on & Nutri on
Within Year 9 they will build upon the following skills to develop skills for GCSE Design Technology. Pupils will be introduced to the context of ‘storage within a box’. From this they will complete research on this context, which includes a client profile, mood board and a product analysis. Pupils will write a design specifica on for their own box, and from this they will complete a range of design ideas. They will develop skills in presen ng their design ideas in a crea ve way including the use of marker pens and CAD. Pupils will con nue to develop their knowledge and skills in CAD and CAM techniques. Also, they will build upon prac cal skills they have developed over year 7 & 8, where they will make a wooden box, with mitre joints, with a sliding lid that will have their own personal design on the lid inspired by one of the following designers / ar sts; Banksy / Norman Foster / Memphis. To support with the school's literacy policy pupils will also make a 3D printed bookmark, to develop their knowledge and understanding of 3D prin ng.
