Sports News

Netball: Year 7 and 8: Both teams played away at Holmfirth High School on Wednesday 9th October 2024. Year 8 won 16-1 and were outstanding, a very strong performance against a good opposition. Year 7 lost 5-1 but held the game to 1-0 then 1-1 until the last quarter. It is not easy to play Holmfirth in the first ever Kirklees league match and they showed some real potential to do well in the league this year.

Extra-Curricular Timetable: It has been wonderful to see so many pupils taking part at lunchtime and/ or after school in our KMS PE clubs. The timetable will remain the same for the August 2 term. Pupils are encouraged to turn up and play at lunchtime clubs, they do not need to sign up. If they are already signed up for after school clubs such as Football, Netball and Dance, they will continue to be on the register. New pupils may join after school clubs by collecting and returning the relevant letter from the school office with a signature to show parental permission to stay after school.

Girls Football: U11: We had two teams representing KMS at a SPIN partnership Football Tournament on Monday 14th October. Both teams played a variety of 6 a side matches and played some excellent football. The red team won all of their group matches apart from 1 which they lost 10 to Hillside. This put them in the runners up final which they drew and so were joint 3rd overall. Hillside went on to win the tournament. There will be more Kirklees league matches to follow throughout the football season.

U1: On Thursday 19th September the U13 Girls Football team travelled to King James High School to play two games of football. The first game was against Scissett Middle school which they lost 2-1. The second was against King James High School which they drew 1-1. This is a new team with Year 7 and Year 8 girls mixed together. It was the first time

The Year 7 boys have enjoyed an excellent start to our football season. On our league opener Wednesday 18th September, we beat Holmfirth 5-0 with some brilliant goals but a whole round excellent team performance. Then on the road again we faced our neighbours in Scissett Middle the following week. We managed to win the bragging rights in this contest coming away with a 3-1 victory that could have been more due to some good saves from the Scissett goalie. Our first home game was in the cup against a very strong All Saints team. This was a brilliant battle to spectate with both teams playing some brilliant football. At full time the score was 1-1 which meant a penalty shootout would settle the tie. However despite a great save from our goalkeeper we were narrowly beaten. Out latest match was a goal thriller away at Newsome that finally ended in a 7-5 defeat however the boys played unbelievably well. Overall a great start from the Year 7 boys and we as school our very proud of everyone who has represented the team!!

U11 boys football: Year 6 have had two 3-team tournaments this half-term: On Thursday 3rd October we hosted Scissett Middle School and Lindley Junior School, winning both games 2-0 and 1-0 respectively, both of which were strong performances against two good teams. On Thursday 10th October, along with Brockholes Junior School, we travelled to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School. The boys were the better team against OLoL but unfortunately couldn't take their chances and lost 1-0. The second game saw us dominate from start to finish and we ran out 5-0 winners. These were the first matches for year 6 at KMS, with some of the boys not having played together before. However, despite this, they played some excellent football and demonstrated a superb attitude throughout. Congratulations to all the boys who

Performance from Joel Foster

Year 7 & 8 pupils were lucky enough to enjoy a musical performance from Joel Foster. Joel starred on the first season of ‘The Voice Kids UK’ 2017. It was then when Joel realised he wanted to show the world his music. From starting to play piano at the age of 3, he knew music was what he was destined to do. Through his teenage years, he began to play weddings with his elder brother and now has over 250 gigs under his belt at the young age of 20.

The pupils had a great time and feedback from Joel was that KMS was a fantastic school with great engagement from the pupils.

If your child enjoyed Joel's performance then tickets are currently on sale for his Manchester show on 5th December
