Even though it has been a short week in school, it’s certainly been a hive of activity! In addition to our regular curriculum lessons, some of our Year 3 and 4 children have been taking part in Bikeability, showing great confidence and determination as they tackled cycling challenges on the school yard well done to everyone involved.

Our Early Years children have also been making the most of the Early Years Garden, enjoying opportunities to explore, play, and build new skills in a rich outdoor environment. It’s been wonderful to see their curiosity and imagination flourishing through hands-on experiences.

As always, one of the highlights of the week has been our celebration assemblies, where we come together to recognise our weekly stars and award certificates for effort, kindness, and achievement. These moments really help us reflect on all the wonderful things happening across school.

We’re also counting down with great excitement to a very special visit from David Walliams, who will be joining us in just ten days’ time! The children are already buzzing with anticipation we can’t wait to welcome him and hear about his stories and writing adventures.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Please remember to check the notices and upcoming dates below so you’re up to date with everything happening in school.

Wishing you a safe and enjoyable weekend, Mrs Payne.

ATTENDANCE

This week’s attendance champions are: Reception Tulips for 99.5% attendance!

The year group with the highest attendance this week is:

Year 2!

How we are raising funds:

Help us build a new playground in memory of Alice & Bebe.

This new playground, which has been proposed by Alice’s parents as a way of honouring her memory, will serve as a joyful, healing space for all our pupils. It will be a place where they can do what children do best – play, explore and grow.

Please donate what you can to help us create a playground that will carry their memories for years to come. We aim to raise £250,000, but we don’t want to stop there! Any additional funds will be distributed to local charities who are helping those affected by this tragedy.

In memory of Alice and Bebe, a number of staff members and friends of Churchtown Primary School are taking part in the London Marathon and the Blackpool Festival of Running in April 2025. Alice’s father, Sergio is also running the London Marathon, alongside our Headteacher, Mrs Payne. In addition, members of staff from across the Endeavour Learning Trust, which Churchtown Primary School is a part of, are also running in memory of Alice and Bebe.

Friday 23rd May

Last Thursday, our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils enjoyed an unforgettable afternoon at The Atkinson Theatre, watching ‘The Baddies’ by Julia Donaldson! The children were absolutely enthralled by the lively performance and showcased exemplary behaviour throughout the trip. It was a delight to see their faces light up with joy and excitement!

On Friday 2nd May, our Year 1 children were awarded with ice lollies and a film for being the year group with the highest attendance during the spring term.

Awards such as this help to promote excellent attendance and they are an incentive for the children. It also creates some healthy competition between the year groups which naturally encourages conversations around attendance.

Well done Year 1!

I wonder which year group will win the prize this term?

On Monday 19th May, Churchtown Primary School will be welcoming a very special visitor – the incredible David Walliams, best-selling author, television personality and beloved creator of countless children’s books!

He will be spending the morning with us, during which time he will be meeting all the children, giving a special presentation and even reading some of his hilarious stories. This is an amazing opportunity to bring books to life in the most authentic way possible and will no doubt create a real buzz around reading across the school.

To make this visit even more memorable, children will have the opportunity to pre-order a book and have it personally signed by David Walliams on the day. The book signing will take place before his presentation and will not be done on front of the children. All pre-ordered signed books will be handed out to children before the end of the school day.

For further information in relation to this, as well as the order form for the books, please refer to the letter that was sent home with the children this week. If you require further copies of the order form, please do not hesitate to contact our school office on 01704 508500 or via email: office@churchtown.org.uk .

Bikeability – Learn to Ride Sessions

A massive well done to all the children in Year 3 and 4 who took part in the ‘Learn to Ride’ Bikeability sessions this week!

It was amazing to see these children go from being unsure to very confident by the end of the session. All the children showed such determination and resilience. Be proud of yourselves!
