Work Hard • Be Well • Do Well

Welcome

At Bramcote College we are proud of the journey we have been on to becoming a great school, rooted in our local community and providing our pupils with a rich and inspiring education. We are ambitious for our pupils, encouraging them to achieve their personal best, not only in the classroom and in exams but also in becoming enthusiastic and well-rounded young adults when they go out into the world, having spent 5 or 7 years with us. We are privileged to be a small secondary school where we know all our pupils by name and work hard to provide them with a personalised learning experience that will open doors for them in the future.

There are high aspirations for all pupils at Bramcote College. OFSTED 2024

Our Ethos

Our ethos of ‘Work Hard, Do Well, Be Well’ focuses on the importance of pupils doing their best to achieve their goals but not doingso at the expense of their wellbeing. We support and encourage our pupils and recognise that as they grow from being children into teenagers and then go on to leave us a young adults, what they need from us in school changes too.

We have developed a broad and engaging curriculum which is adapted to meet the needs of our pupils and provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve. As a result of this we have enjoyed year on year improvements in exam outcomes, with 2025seeing our best ever results, most of which exceed national and county average levels

A broad & balanced curriculum

We have worked hard to ensure that we have a broad and balanced curriculum which includes the core subjects of Maths, English, Science, PE and RE as well as more traditional subjects such as Geography and History and more modern subject including Computer Science and a broad range of Design Technology subjects. We have worked hard to ensure that throughoutKey Stage 3 we offer a broad range of creative subjects includingDrama, Music, Art, Textiles, Graphics, Design and Food Technology. SEND support at Bramcote College

Be Well

Do Well

The focus on pupils aiming for and achieving their personal best is a key element in our ethos of ‘Work Hard, Be Well, Do Well’. This is especially important for our pupils with SEND. We believe in creating an inclusive environment in school which allows all pupils to engage with the curriculumand achieve. We work hard to ensure that our school is somewhere that all pupils feel safe andare happy to attend. We are consistently in the top 8 schools in Nottinghamshire for attendance.

Our SEND team offers personalised support and additionalfacilities such as our Forest School (building confidence and widening experiences outside the classroom) and our ARNA unit (which nurtures potentially anxious pupilsat high stress times), as well as morning and lunch time clubs, all aimed at making school a positive and engaging experience. This positivity builds confidence and lays the foundationsfor developing pupils’ knowledge and understanding in a full range of subjects.

The Library and Literacy

Work Hard • Be Well • Do Well

Literacy opens doors! At Bramcote College we recognise that accessing the curriculum starts with good literacy. While this starts with ensuring pupils are confident readers, it is advanced by building pupils’ love of reading every day through DEAR time in the afternoons and regular Library lessons. Class teachers also focus on building a rich vocabulary for their subjects and through assessments they explore how to interpret the language used in instructions. By building confidence and a broad vocabularypupils’ literacy grows. Our Library is at the core of this process, using ‘Accelerated Reader’ and regular reading age and speed tests, as well as comprehension quizzes to assess progress. Most importantly our Librarian also makes suggestions for what to read next to maintain pupils’ enthusiasm.

Safeguarding

At Bramcote College safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

We work hard to maintain a culture which places wellbeing and safety at the core of everything we do. Staff are trained throughoutthe year to provide appropriate support and signposts which prioritise young people’s health and wellbeing, not just in school but throughouttheir lives.

We work closely with focused groups of students and, where suitable, a range of organisations not only to support our pupils but to build their confidence and resilience now and in the future. Skills learned in school become life-long habits.

Pupils know how to identify and raise any concerns they may have with our staff; our safeguarding systems give them the confidence to know that their concerns will be taken seriously.

Pupils trust staff to keep them safe.
