Sewanhaka faculty helps families in need
The faculty and staff at Sewanhaka High School have been providing food and household items to families in need in the school community. Along with the daily grab-and-go meals, the staff has been actively collecting and distributing donations every Wednesday and Friday.
Dean and teacher assistant Mike Ryan and retired faculty member Julie Fanelli have been running the operation with the assistance of Doris Brown, Deidre Kelly, Liliana Bascetta, Joseph Botka, Kerry Jansen and Maryanne Contarino. They collect items and food from the community and staff every Wednesday, then put together at least 70 bags to distribute on Fridays. Some Fridays, Fanelli said, they continue to make ba gs because they have received so many donations.
The donation bags can contain diapers, hygiene products, dog and cat food, detergent, toilet paper, paper towels and other essential items.
