Learn more about our partners in our Monthly Label Spotlight!
How did you personally get started in the music industry?
My introduction to the music industry began with college radio in the 70’s. I grew up in the NY area completely obsessed with music and the radio. Once I got on the air, my career path was set and a bunch of radio gigs followed. I also got involved in producing live music pretty early on and was a founder of the Green River Festival 40+ years ago.
When and where did the label begin?
Signature Sounds began in 1994 in Western Massachusetts. I was programming a commercial AAA station, 93.9 The River at the time. We had a local music show called Homegrown and we hit upon the idea of doing local compilation albums as a benefit for the food bank. We recorded much of the music for those albums at Signature Sounds Studios and the owner of the studio Mark Thayer became my partner and the name stuck.
Is the label tied to a specific geographical area, and if so, how is this reflected in your releases?
The label started to promote the local music scene in Western Massachusetts, which had a super fertile music scene in the 90’s and launched many great bands such as The Pixies, Dinosaur Jr and Sebadoh plus great songwriters like Dar Williams, Ray LaMontagne, Martin Sexton and others. All of our early releases were from Western Mass artists and we still represent great locals like Chris Smither, Heather Maloney and Winterpills.
How has the label changed since it started?
The label was started with very modest ambitions and a complete lack of experience so we had a long era of trial and error before we found our footing. We started in a completely different era, when everything depended on CD sales and there was no internet music. I’m proud of the fact that we were able to navigate and thrive through all of the changes that have happened over the years. All along our goal was to sign young artists and be a driver of artist development. That is still our ethos today.
What was the biggest challenge for you and the label during the Pandemic, and is it still a challenge?
Oddly, the pandemic was a good period for the label. When things shut down, we immediately pivoted to producing live stream shows for our artists and others, producing over 100 shows in two years and helping keep everyone afloat. We also saw a significant increase in our direct product sales and streaming numbers.
Who or what has been a new find (on the label or otherwise) you’d like to rave about?
I still do a 3 hour weekly radio show on The River which is focused on roots music and Americana. I spend a lot of time checking new music for the show. I also see tons of live music as well. As for recent favorites, I’m digging the new albums by Dean Johnson, Clover County and the band Fust.
What’s the wildest marketing promotion you’ve ever worked on for any release?
We tend not to get too wild with these things, but for the 10th anniversary of Bad Self Portraits we created 4 unique artwork versions of the album with different color themes and new artwork with lots of bad self portraits of the band.
What is your stance on color vinyl? What’s the most unique color LP or overall packaging you’ve ever seen or released?
I love making colored vinyl releases as it’s such a cool extension of the album artwork. Our most unique LP color was definitely Clown Vomit (look it up!)
How do you feel about the rising costs of vinyl records? And what about the continued popularity of the CD format?
I must admit that I thought the vinyl resurgence was going to be a passing fad. It’s literally the only instance that I can recall where we brought back a dead technology years later. I’m still amazed that anyone would pay $35 for an album. I’ve always been a CD fan and continue to collect them, mostly because they are best to play on the radio.
What in your opinion has been the biggest change in the music industry from when you first started compared to now?
I think the biggest change is the ability to have direct contact with your fans. In the pre-internet days you had very limited ways to connect with the folks buying your records. Now you can connect instantly.
How do you view the issue of being environmentally sustainable within the music industry?
That is one downside of the return of vinyl. Every step of the process from production to delivery is inefficient and environmentally detrimental. CD’s aren’t much better. We have to make a collective effort to figure out a better way forward.
How important are issues like mental health and social justice to you and the label?
I feel like we are on the front lines of First Amendment rights, and it’s our duty to allow artists to express themselves through their art even when you might not agree with their views. So many of our favorite artists have struggled with mental health issues, and having an artistic outlet to express themselves is a benefit to everyone.
Want to shout out a personal favorite record store or retail establishment? Now’s your chance: There are so many great ones!!! If I had to pick one, it would probably be Waterloo Records in Austin…one of the oldest and the best!
They say our sun will explode in about 5 billion years or sohow would you like the label to be remembered? We’re not gonna last 5 billion years!
Celebrating our 20th anniversary – a milestone that honors both the journey so far and the vibrant creative future we’re continuing to build.

“A good song can survive and shine in different ways in the hands of different musicians,” says Emmylou Harris. “It can have different meanings at different times in your life. A good song can travel with you anywhere.” It’s that philosophy which has guided her fifty-year career in music, where she has covered countless songs across countless genres and put her own indelible stamp on each one. The same philosophy animates both Spyboy, her touring band in the late 1990s, and Spyboy, the 1998 live album that demonstrates how these musicians made her songs shine. Sequencing old songs alongside new ones, the album tests the tensile strength of each one, pushing them into wilder and more psychedelic territory while remaining grounded in earthy country music. It’s completely unique in her catalog, a crucial document of an important chapter in her career, and it’s finally getting reissued after years of being unavailable. “It’s such a special record,” she says. “Well, they all are, but this one is really, really special. That was such a fantastic band and such an amazing time.”
Spyboy grew out of Wrecking Ball, Harris’ groundbreaking 1995 collaboration with producer Daniel Lanois. That album, among her best and most celebrated, offers a very different idea of what country music could be, how it might sound and move. In 1996 and 1997 together with Buddy Miller, Brady Blade and Daryl Johnson - the band, also named Spyboy, toured America and Europe together, never playing a song the same way twice. Buddy Miller brought along his recording gear to record nearly every show on the tour. When their time on the road ended, Miller and Harris sat down together and they culled through hundreds of tracks to choose the ones that best represented the Spyboy ethos of endless possibility. They whittled the original release down to 14 tracks and in 1998 Eminent Records released Spyboy on CD.
New West Records is proud to put Spyboy back in print after 27 years. The CD features four unreleased bonus tracks from the original show recordings. The LP is being pressed for the second time (RSD ‘25) and is available on clear vinyl and features five unreleased bonus tracks from the original show recordings.

The final studio album from Cowboy cofounder Tommy Talton featuring ex-band members and Capricorn label mates, Randall Bramblett, Chuck Leavell, and Rick Hirsh
The seven tunes were recorded at Capricorn Sound Studios in Macon, over several memorable days, in April of 2022. They were lovingly overdubbed, mixed and mastered in the following months by Rick Hirsch - a truly herculean effort, as Tommy was a perfectionist. Between medical treatments Tommy kept moving forward. He showed amazing courage in that he never let the cancer define him. He knew these tunes would be his epitaph and it is evident in these excellent compositions, arrangements and performances that this is something special

Big Dada welcomes beloved producer and singer-songwriter Helado Negro (Roberto Carlos Lange) as the pioneering label’s latest signee. Known for crafting compassionate ambient pop music, he issues a new chapter with the announcement of a new EPtitled‘TheLastSoundOnEarth’.
The new EP is a collection of songs inspired by a morbid curiosity of what the last sound one would hear before dying. With ever-growing anxiety with the state of current affairs, songs on this EP contain profound despair, anguish, and sadness for the world around us, but delivered in a light and propulsive electronic package, marking a new direction in sound for Lange. In previous projects, Lange found positivity through music and dance, “I've found a way of moving my body on stage that gives me a direct, freeing feeling with the music.” these days, “The doom is real, and the gloom is unfortunate; I'm not sure how to make this any lighter.”
The upcoming EP features incredibly eye catching, high gloss artwork by acclaimed artist and designer Robert Beatty (Tame Impala, The Weeknd, Mdou Moctar, Neon Indian and many more). The album will be supported by a full press and radio campaign alongsideUStourdates.Previousalbums‘Phasor’and ‘This Is How You Smile’have received Pitchfork’s Best NewMusicandlandedonmanyyearendlists.

“We died when we started writing this album,” declare Sorry, the London-based five-piece preparing to release COSPLAY, their third studio album. But if Sorry did, indeed, die before a note had been recorded, before a single word had even been jotted down, who the hell are this bunch now masquerading as Sorry? Who has donned the Sorry outfits so convincingly? Who is it that has recorded COSPLAY, this album that first meticulously erases and then extravagantly redraws the perimeters of what a contemporary rock’n’roll band can achieve? Welcome to the world of COSPLAY, where anyone can be anyone, past or present, real or imaginary, dead or alive.
• COSPLAY follows 2022's Anywhere But Here and 2020's 925, which have received praise from The New York Times, The New Yorker, Billboard, Fader, GQ, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, American Songwriter, and more

In a departure from their iconic “Adventures,” the Brothers pare down to the essentials of what makes their sound – memorable melodies, brotherly harmony, and thoughtful lyrics based in the nature of childhood. “You” are at the center of these songs. “You” are the apple of my eye, “You” came from out of the blue, and “You” are the great big universe. “You” bring out the child inside of us, and “You” show us how to be a free little bird. “You” are wildly funny and deeply wise. “You” have been in this world a long time, and “You” will be here for many years more.

DATE: NOVEMBER 7, 2025
Calling a Deicide album “more accessible” is kind of like calling a velociraptor less lethal than a T-Rex…you’re gonna die either way. But on 1997’s Serpents of the Light, the fourth album from the Tampa death metal quartet, Glen Benton’s rage-filled imprecations are a little more intelligible and songs like “Slave to the Cross” and “Blame It on God” do sport choruses that verge upon being hooky (if you have a meathook in mind).
The anti-religion invective remains unabated, however… this remains music in extremis despite the stripped-down production. For its first-ever standalone U.S. LP release, we’ve remastered Serpents of the Light for vinyl and given it a deathly blue pressing complete with an inner sleeve featuring lyrics and a 12” x 24” poster of the cover image. Not for even the faintly faint of heart.

If there is one thing we at Real Gone have learned during our rollicking ride of reissuing The Donnas’ catalog, it’s that they never did anything halfway. And we’ve tried to do the same in bringing their music back to their devout fanbase. Now, by popular demand, and after years of pursuing the rights, we are thrilled to announce that we are releasing their last studio album, Bitchin’, in an expanded, newly annotated, and newly remastered edition! This 2007 release was put out by The Donnas’ own Purple Feather label, and marks a return to the girls’ glam metal and punk roots after the classic rock leanings of Gold Medal…they’ve escaped the major label machine, and are ready to have a good time! Singalong songs like “What Do I Have to Do” and “Don’t Wait Up for Me” have definitely entered The Donnas’ canon, and tunes like “Save Me” confirm that this band’s ability to set a hook in a chorus remains unabated. For this first-ever reissue, we’ve rounded up an entire side of bonus tracks, including the two songs (“Randi” and a cover of “Safety Dance”) that were only available on the vinyl release, a track (“New Kid in School”) that was previously available only as a download, two outtakes (“We Own the Night” and “She’s Out of Control”) that showed up on the Greatest Hits Vol. 16 comp, and a track that only came out in Japan (“Can’t Keep It a Secret”).

Rare is the soundtrack that as time passes overshadows the film of which it was a part, but that’s what has happened in the years since the 1992 release of The Last of the Mohicans. Not that the film is any slouch; Michael Mann’s epic retelling of James Fenimore Cooper’s frontier tale is a cable TV fixture and more evidence that Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the great actors of our time. But the film’s music has emerged as easily one of the most popular scores of ‘90s cinema, with the “Main Title” in particular having become a part of our popular culture the same way as, say, the signature themes from Titanic, Star Wars, and other blockbusters. What makes it even more extraordinary is that the movie’s score emerged from postproduction turmoil as the work of two different composers, Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman. Jones’ work is more of the traditional orchestral soundtrack ilk, Edelman’s has a more contemporary feel, but somehow it all fits, with the closing credit song “I Will Find You” by Clannad an added bonus. Long a bestselling soundtrack CD, we at Real Gone Music are releasing this revered soundtrack on double LP peach vinyl, inside a gatefold festooned with production stills. Guaranteed to get your blood stirring!

There’s a freedom in knowing we are all doomed, a sense of liberation from society’s morals and the considerations of commerce. That’s the territory trod by Sorrow on its lone album, 1992’s Hatred and Disgust. This album doesn’t bring you down, it takes you down. Down-tuned guitars, sloweddown tempos. Lyrics with a deservedly dim view of mankind. And fat as f*** riffs that will annihilate you. Finally released in the U.S. on vinyl and with the full support of the band, Hatred and Disgust comes in a blue smoke pressing limited to 1000 copies, complete with a lyric insert. If you like your doom metal with a side of thrash and death metal, this lost classic (remastered for vinyl by Mike Milchner) will satisfy like few others. This 2003 record represented a real turning point for Static-X. Korn’s Jonathan Davis had tapped Wayne Static to sing “Not Meant for Me” on the Queen of the Damned soundtrack, and that uncharacteristically melodic tune moved the band in a whole new direction. In short order, they ditched erstwhile producer Ulrich Wild for Josh Abraham, who had worked with more mainstream bands like Staind and Velvet Revolver, and lost both drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Koichi Fukuda. But (thanks in part to the prodigious talents of A Perfect Circle drummer Josh Freese) out of all that turmoil came another Top 20 record, albeit one that challenged dedicated devotees of their former industrial/nu metal sound even as it found new audiences. We’re giving Shadow Zone a super limited (to 500 copies) yellow smoke pressing, complete with a full-color inner sleeve featuring lyrics. Remastered for vinyl by Mike Milchner at Sonic Vision!

The first words you hear on Paul Kelly’s new album Seventy, are, ‘Tell us a story.’ The last words you hear are, ‘Put another big log on the fire ’ Yes, we’re back in the kellyverse of love, loss, legend, wit, poetry and tales tall and true. In the room with his band and ‘the ones he loves the best’, passing the stories and jokes around, going all around the world while the storm howls outside the door and above the roof all snug and tight. Where else would you rather be?

Listen to the new single ‘Rita Wrote A Letter’ August 14th “I’ve been mulling over the idea of a sequel to How To Make Gravy from Rita’s point of view for quite some time About five years ago I wrote down the words, ‘Rita wrote a letter,’ and thought, ‘There’s my title ’ I scratched away intermittently and fruitlessly for several years but never got very far until Dan Kelly sent me a recording of something he’d written on piano with a rough melody over the top. The words started rolling after that. As often happens, they took me by surprise. You could say the song took a dark turn but to my mind it’s a black comedy. A ghost story. You hear Rita’s voice loud and clear but Joe talks even more I couldn’t shut him up!” - Paul Kelly

Recorded during that unique period in the late ‘60s when jazz, blues and rock musicians found common ground in London’s vibrant subterranean clubs, 1968s Definitely What! was the second of the run of the four ground-breaking Trinity albums Showcasing Auger's open-minded approach and his masterful organ & piano skills, the album whips up a rich blend of jazz, R&B, psychedelic touches and soulful grooves, complemented by the tight, dynamic rhythm section of Dave Ambrose (bass) and Clive Thacker (drums)
After the previous year’s Open (1967) with its 'Summer of Love' feel and its melting pot of Mod R&B, cover versions of US soul hits led by Julie Driscoll’s inimitable vocals, Auger considered Definitely What! as his first solo album, and so he travelled deeper into jazz territory, balancing original pieces with audacious covers Tracks include versions of Mose Allison's 'If You Live' and of Wes Montgomery’s ‘Bumpin’ On Sunset’. “I got a letter from Wes's wife, ” recalls Auger, “saying that it was Wes' favourite version. Can you believe that, Wes's wife wrote to me!”
Elsewhere, we find a dramatic re-arrangement of The Beatles’ ‘A Day In The Life’ complete with orchestral strings and a punchy horn section, alongside a supercharged version of Booker T & The MGs’ ‘Red Beans & Rice’. 'George Bruno Money' was dedicated to Auger's drinking pal of the era, Zoot Money, and 'John Browns Body' both combine prime Hammond jazz with the very British surrealist humour that was in vogue at the time The title track goes further “out” in a sprawling instrumental piece rooted in experimentation Brian himself specifically states in his sleeve notes that his concept “lies along a straight line drawn between pop and jazz and aims at the 'fusion' of both elements” - ‘fusion’ at that time was not even a recognised musical term, further reinforcing Auger’s credentials as an innovator
That forward-thinking approach was developed in Open and Definitely What! would come to fruition a year later with the release of Streetnoise (1969) featuring the Trinity and Julie Driscoll. At the time, the move to bring together jazz, rhythm & blues, folk, gospel and pop into a progressive new sound may have annoyed the purists and confused the less openminded, but these albums stand today as a testament to Auger’s unique position within British music, foreshadowing his future 1970s explorations with the Oblivion Express and beyond Definitely What! remains a fascinating snapshot of 1960s musical experimentation - raw, eclectic, and unapologetically Auger!
This new Strut reissue is curated by Impressive Collective’s Greg Boraman in partnership with Brian and Karma Auger The album is remastered by Cosmic Audio from the original tapes, and is packaged in Brian's favourite version of the 3 different sleeves the album was originally issued in.

TITLE: MUSIC OUT OF THE MOON / MUSIC FOR PEACE OF MIND
BOX LOT QUANTITY: 30 LP / 60 CD
One of the earliest forms of electronic music, from the originators of the genre! Though the theremin is often used in science fiction and film scores depicting the macabre, this album shows the theremin’s vibrant sweetness and gentle vibrato. It explores the instrument, using exotic harmonies, timbre and composition to play upon the more remote realm of human emotions. Includes all tracks from Music Out of the Moon & Music for Peace of Mind!
Harry Revel created the basic "idea" and themes, while Leslie Baxter, arranger and conductor, has given them appropriately unique tone color and unusual instrumental effects with woodwinds, strings and brass. The artist who plays the Theremin is Dr. Samuel J. Hoffman, whose brilliant technique was heard in the music of "Spellbound," "Lost Weekend," "Spiral Staircase" and "The Red House."
"Music out of the Moon" is a landmark album that was released in 1947. It was the first commercial recording to feature the theremin, which had been invented just a few decades earlier. With its lush, atmospheric arrangements, the album was an instant success, selling over 100,000 copies in its first year and helping to popularize the theremin as a musical instrument. It also paved the way for the development of the exotica genre.
"Music for Peace of Mind" was released just three years later. Its gentle and introspective piano solos that are meant to evoke a sense of calm and relaxation. In fact, it was one of the first albums to explore the concept of "mood music", which sought to create a specific emotional response in the listener. It was a commercial success, selling over a million copies, and it helped to popularize the idea of relaxation and meditation music.

The Dears have made some of the most beautiful music of the past quarter century, but also some of the most defiant, with an attitude and emphasis that seems to blend the operatic with a punk sensibility.
On their new album, "Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful!", The Dears are again at the top of their form, coming back with passionate, compassionate, urgent music that uplifts, explores dark corners, and ultimately shines out in a way that's absolutely gorgeous, with an edge
"Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful! Life is Beautiful! feels like a new masterpiece and provides further evidence that The Dears are a vital part of the musical landscape, and also just completely doing their own thing, as ever."
"If I love The Dears, if you love The Dears, it's because that orchestral, symphonic feel, those gorgeous melodies, are grounded in a gritty, gonna-die-on-this hill mentality and a heady intellectualism."
"[ ] my heart skipped a beat from the opening chords of "Gotta Get My Head Right" a masterpiece of rising tension and killer melodies, layered and precise and yet roving and wild, with changes in the music and the progressions that alter your brain while listening What follows is an album that's as various and yet as unified as that first track. Few bands can achieve this kind of complexity while also making it seem timeless and so very perfect."
"There's no one like The Dears and there never will be, and I really appreciate that so very much "
- excerpts from the album bio, written by New York Times bestselling author Jeff VanderMeer

First Encounter
New Quartet Live at Pierre Boulez Saal documents the initial encounter between trumpeter Amir ElSaffar’s trio, consisting of Tomas Fujiwara, one of NYC’s most in-demand and dynamic drummers, and Ole Mathisen, a tenor saxophonist of unparalleled technique and versatility, with Greek pianist Tania Giannouli, a rising star who has headlined almost every major jazz festival and venue in Europe over the past several years.
ElSaffar’s nuanced and vibrant trumpet sound, rooted in Chicago school classical technique, combining subtle ornamentation and microtones of Arab Maqam with Jazz influences ranging from Miles to Woody Shaw, resonates throughout the session, guiding the new ensemble into unexplored musical territories. The music ranges from intensely quiet and nearly silent to ecstatic and declamatory, with the microtonal piano ringing ear-opening and beautifully unconventional harmonies throughout.
The four musicians had a mini-residency consisting of two rehearsal days, a concert, and an all day recording session at the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, a hall known for its phenomenal acoustics and legacy of its namesake, 20th century pioneer conductor and composer Pierre Boulez.
The live recording showcases vulnerability, wonder, and a sense of discovery, as the quartet navigates ElSaffar’s material –– composed only three days earlier –– in front of a sold out audience. The results, a patiently flowing, spacious and graceful kind of jazz that is seeded profoundly with Maqam influences, left listeners at the edge of their seats. Musical gestures seemed to reveal themselves beyond the control of the musicians, who were discovering it along with the audience. The following day’s recording session allowed the musicians an opportunity to refine and hone in on the musical ideas, resulting in cleaner and more confident versions of the compositions (some of the standout tracks from this session are presented as alternate takes on the CD and download), but it’s the live concert that contains the magic and ineffable energy that makes up the bulk of this album. Vulnerable as these recordings may be, they are also marked by a stunning and surefooted elegance, truly remarkable considering the conditions, especially with respect to Giannouli’s enchanting and powerful microtonal and prepared piano work.
ElSaffar is known for his Two Rivers sextet and 17-piece Rivers of Sound Orchestra, both of which blend Middle Eastern and jazz instrumentation. At the outset, this album’s ensemble looks like a traditional jazz setting, except for one anomaly - the absence of a bass instrument. This is by design: with the unique resonances of the microtonal piano, and ElSaffar and Mathisen’s well-honed blend of two instruments into one sound, rich and nuanced timbres and harmonies are able to ring out, unencumbered with pitch information in the low registers. The bass-less context also allows Fujiwara and Giannouli to find interesting polyrhythms and grooves, further encouraged by ElSaffar’s written material that leaves the rhythmic aspects open.
Confluences and Serendipities
In late 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Amir ElSaffar received a call from Piotr Turkeiwicz, director of Jazz and Improvised music at the Pierre Boulez Saal, inviting him to premiere two new works on a single night at the Saal. “I knew this would be something significant,” ElSaffar recalls. He had worked with Pierre Boulez as principal trumpeter of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago in 1998, when he was just 19 years old, in an experience that would shape his musical career (though not entirely
for the reasons one might expect). He had also recorded with Boulez Saal’s artistic director, Daniel Barenboim, on the 1999 Teldec release, Tribute to Ellington, and was a member of the inaugural West-East Divan Orchestra in Weimar that same year, an experience that eventually led ElSaffar to discover his Arab roots through music. This historic orchestra and initiative was started by Barenboim, Yo-Yo Ma, and the late, seminal Palestinian scholar, Edward Said, who was a dear friend and colleague of Ruth El Saffar, Amir’s mother and a Spanish literature professor who had died in 1994. The Barenboim-Said Academy is active to this day, and has its home in the Saal in Berlin.
After discussing several options, ElSaffar and Turkeiwicz decided on two projects: a duo with Lorenzo Bianchi-Hoesch, the Paris-based electronics virtuoso with whom ElSaffar had already collaborated (Inner Spaces, co-released via Ornithology and Maqam Records); and a new quartet combining ElSaffar’s trio of longtime collaborators, Tomas Fujiwara (drums) and Ole Mathisen (tenor saxophone) with then rising star Greek pianist, Tania Giannouli.
Giannouli had introduced herself to ElSaffar in Brussels in 2018 after a concert of his chamber works, expressing interest in playing together. The two had kept in touch over the following years, and finally the chance to collaborate had come. Her star was rising quickly in Europe and she was receiving invites to virtually all of the major jazz festivals and halls. “By the time I invited her to be a part of the project, I was afraid she would say she was too busy.” Fortunately, she gladly accepted the invitation.
This double bill mini-residency, concert, and recording session was scheduled for March, 2022. ElSaffar composed material, rehearsed, and performed it with Mathisen and Fujiwara in Brooklyn. Two days before the concert, while on tour in Milan, ElSaffar tested positive for Covid, and the gig was canceled. ElSaffar relates, “I had managed to avoid getting Covid for two years, and now it hit me at the worst possible time. Tomas was already in Germany en route to Berlin. He had to be rerouted back home and all of the other flights had to be canceled.” Fortunately, the Boulez Saal was kind enough to cover all of the flights and logistics, and ElSaffar’s two weeks of Airbnb in Milan, while he recovered.
Turkiewicz managed to rebook the residency for September, 2022. Two weeks before the concert, ElSaffar fell ill with a rare case of pneumonia that hospitalized him for four days. “It was horrible and surreal. My first time in the hospital, and the second time in my life that I canceled a concert due to health reasons - both were at the Boulez Saal. I thought, considering the money they had lost, that they would give up on me and not rebook.” But Turkeiwicz was persistent and managed to convince his directors that this concert was worth it. So the concert was rescheduled yet again for September, 2023. “This time, I didn’t leave my house for a month before the gig,” ElSaffar jokes.
This long stretch between the initial booking and the concert gave ElSaffar time to reconsider the music. “Somehow, my compositions from a year and a half earlier didn’t seem appropriate anymore. I didn’t know what I wanted to play this time, but I knew it wasn’t that repertoire.” When he arrived to Berlin on the first day, he sat down with Tania for three hours, improvising, trying ideas and different modes on the microtonal piano, and most importantly, listening to her. “My preferred way to write music is to listen to the sensibilities of
the musicians I work with, and harmonize with them and write something that matches my impressions and feelings that I get from their sound.” That night, he stayed up in his hotel room, unable to sleep due to jet lag, and wrote 12 pages of material, which he presented to the musicians the following day. “Once they started feeling their way through the written material, that’s when the magic began. I could hear that the chemistry was already there, written into this configuration. It was as if the potential energy from all of the performances that were canceled manifested in the moment, and the connection.”
The Maqam Maqām is the modal and melodic musical language found in music of the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia, that has had a profound influence on the history of music throughout the centuries. Maqam also refers to a repertoire in Iraq, representing its rich history and multifaceted society through melodies and poetry, with elements that date back to Baghdad’s glorious ages (8th-13th centuries C.E.) and ancient Mesopotamian civilizations.

Previously only available as a limited - edition Japanese tour CD , we are very excited to release the Obits – L.E.G.I.T. collection on vinyl! 12 tracks, ranging from their first self-released single (‘One Cross Apiece’) to covers (Graham Nash’s ‘Military Man’, The Kid’s ’78 punk classic ‘The City is Dead’) to live tracks, three of which (‘New August’ ‘Talking to the Dog’ & ‘Refund’) were recorded at Red 7 in Austin in 2012, and were only available as a limited 7” with mail order copies of the band’s ‘Bed and Bugs’ LP for Sub Pop. L.E.G.I.T. features stunning artwork from singer Rick Froberg , and it is yet another reminder how tragic it was that we lost him at such a young age. We still have a handful of copies left of the Obit’s killer live LP, ‘ Die at the Zoo ’ , available on yellow vinyl while supplies last!

Sabine McCalla creates her own version of multi-cultural American roots music. It's a sound that crosses borderlines, pulling everything from Brazilian samba to southern soul to British rock & roll into its orbit. On Don't Call Me Baby, Sabine filters those influences through the lens of her Haitian heritage and her music community of New Orleans, creating a debut album that's every bit as multi-faceted as the woman who wrote its songs.
The daughter of first-generation Haitian immigrants, Sabine was raised in the suburbs of New York City, where she grew up alongside her sister Leyla McCalla (Sons of Our Native Daughters, Carolina Chocolate Drops). "We had open-minded parents who encouraged us to play an instrument from an early age," she remembers. Introduced to chamber music at an early age, Sabine began playing classical violin in orchestras, music camps, and conservatory classes as an 8 year old. Back at home, she filled her head with Motown classics, girl group hits, Bob Marley albums, Beatles standards, and Haitian folk music. It was a wide constellation of sound that spanned more than a half century, and Sabine made it all her own, drawn to the connections binding everything together.
Don't Call Me Baby shines a light on those connections. The follow-up to her critically-acclaimed Folk EP, whose pre-war sound earned her a slot at the Newport Folk Festival in 2019, the album transcends genre and generation, creating a raw, rich mix of country, R&B, folk, and soul that exists on its own timeline. Co-produced by Sam Doores of the Deslondes and featuring a cast of New Orleans’ most spirited and gifted (including guest vocals from Riley Downing Leyla McCalla, and The Lostines), Sabine McCalla reaches beyond her beloved hometown Americana scene with Don't Call Me Baby, building a bridge between the world-spanning sounds that have captured her attention. ,

Get zoned into mult-dimensional noir on this vaporous, intimate and beautiful collaborative LP
On their third album for Disciples, Special Interest member Ruth Mascelli teams up with Mary Hanson Scott, pushing the paranoid torch songs of previous record Non-Stop Healing Frequency into even more liminal and spaced out territory The song side of proceedings is stronger than ever, with the epic, yearning melted power ballad of “Haunted Hearts”; a gorgeous slo-mo cover of hi-nrg pop(pers) banger “Self Control”; and the chopped up rhythms of “A Lover’s Theory Of Value”, musically located somewhere between blunted trip-hop and Julee Cruise. The FX-blasted reeds of Mary Hanson Scott not only perfectly underpin Ruth’s seductive croon, but provide a cloud-like ambient sound bed for the instrumental pieces that tie the sequencing together, and help make this a truly emotionally engaging journey from beginning to end It’s also very much the culmination of a trilogy, with a track such as “Vaseline Lens” calling back to the elegiac comedown laments found on the second side of debut album A Night At The Baths Includes guest appearances from Jae Matthews of Boy Harsher, and Maria Elena from Special Interest Sleeve designed by Brett LaBauve of New Orleans queer dance party institution Gimme A Reason.
An inspired coming together of musical minds, wander the streets of your soul with Ruth Mascelli & Mary Hanson Scott!

On Patience, Devin Shaffer leads a group of sensitive instrumentalists through a stirring, hushed collection of folk songs. After finding a Martin guitar on the sidewalk with a note that said, “This is for you,” Shaffer began writing a series of whispered folk songs from her bed that mark her move from Chicago to NYC. First, Shaffer tracked vocals and guitar in Chicago with Michael Macdonald (The Slaps, Tenci, Mia Joy, Tasha). Then, she arranged contributions from Lucy Liyou on piano, Sarah Galdes (L’Rain, Bartees Strange) on drums, Marilu Donovan (LEYA) on harp, and Mari Rubio (More Eaze) on pedal steel. The results update the intimacy of songwriters like Vashti Bunyan, Sibylle Baier, and Linda Perhacs for the twenty-first century.
American Dreams Records is a transcontinental experimental label dedicated to showcasing art inspired by patience, intention, perseverance, hope, and leaving the world a little more beautiful than we found it. Our ethos is rooted in story-telling, inclusivity, community, and cohabitation with the natural world.

Toronto’s Hobby have been honing their uniquiely Canadian brand of Americana Since 2017. Clear Blue River is their third full-length, and first for Telephone Explosion. The album further refines their sound, adding to their sonic singularity while continuing to summon fragments of the best country, folk and rock music of the last half century.
Combining a steadfast work ethic with a love of live performance, Hobby has been taking their act on the road for years now, placing an emphasis on Canada’s under-represented small cities and towns. This move has allowed them to bring their music faceto-face with now-loyal fans in venues sorely lacking in performances that are not cover bands or karaoke nights.
Clear Blue River runs the gamut of moods, ranging from gently strummed introspection to absolute barn burning, with plenty of ground tread in between. Lyrically, themes range from heartbreak to aging and the passage of time. Everything is sung in an unmistakable way that sounds like Hobby.
SUPPOSE BEAUTIFUL MADELINE HARVEY is composed by Travis Just and is the musical component of Object Collection’s collaboration with legendary experimental theater icon Richard Foreman.
The album was captured live (with no overdubs or edits) during Object Collection’s sold-out run of ten performances in December 2024 at NYC’s legendary East Village theater La MaMa.
A paper-thin love story within a paper-thin world, speeding, so it would seem, towards inevitable catastrophe or perhaps, a very serious twist.
Using Foreman’s ecstatic, labyrinthine text as the rhythmic source for all vocal and instrumental material, Just scores the voices in a kind of notated speech that ducks and weaves through the dense sound world. The instrumental ensemble performs a high-wire act of a through-composed score, stuffed with bubbling synths, stuttering drum machines, processed woodwinds, and heavy guitars.
Acclaimed for their invigorating blend of music and theater, Object Collection got their start over twenty years ago in Foreman’s own Ontological-Hysteric Theater. Foreman passed away in January 2025, just two weeks after this production closed. Suppose Beautiful Madeline Harvey extends Richard Foreman’s legacy to a new generation of experimentalists.

This November, Matador Records capitalizes on the sweeping success of box office smash PAVEMENTS with the physical release of the iconic meta-documentary’s original soundtrack.
Compiled by PAVEMENTS producer/ editor Robert Greene and the band, the soundtrack ropes together disparate elements of the film – dialogue snippets, scenes from the fake Oscar-bait biopic Range Life, and cast recordings from the Slanted! Enchanted! jukebox musical as well as live and rehearsal recordings from the group’s 2021 reunion tour and the never-before-released cover of Jim Pepper’s song “Witchitai-To.”
The full-band performances were mixed by Bryce Goggin, who worked on Pavement classics Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, Wowee Zowee, and Brighten the Corners.
Hard to believe we made it, but here we are. A sold-out reunion. Gold records. A criticallylauded feature film. Stockton, CA’s finest are once again seated atop the throne and Pavement is the biggest band in the world, North America, the coastal United States.
And yet, we get the sense there’s still a lot of people who don’t know who the hell they are. Thus, Matador Records will release Hecklers Choice: Big Gums and Heavy Lifters

The remixed 2003 classic album, Decoration Day, remastered by acclaimed engineer Greg Calbi. Features Drive-By Truckers standards, “Sink Hole,” “Marry Me,” “My Sweet Annette,” and Jason Isbell’s first songs with the band, “Outfit,” and “Decoration Day.”
Heathens Live At Flicker Bar, Athens, GA - June 20, 2002 A stripped-down, acoustic show from the band’s hometown, recorded a year before Decoration Day’s release. Featuring novel and tight live takes on most of the album’s tracks - several performed for the first time ever - with additional back catalog tracks to round out this dynamic and raw set.
“Considered by many (including me) to be DBT’s masterpiece, this is the ultimate version of Decoration Day, sounding better than ever with an expanded presentation of Wes Freed’s iconic artwork and expansive liner notes by Stephen Deusner. Plus a very special live performance of an acoustic set from Athens, GA’s iconic Flicker Bar. We recorded the basic tracks for our Decoration Day album in late May / early June 2002 in Athens GA. On June 20, DBT was nominated for several awards at the Athfest / Flagpole Music Awards. We all dressed up in vintage suits and performed several songs at the beautiful Morton Theatre in downtown. We decided that it would be fun to go play an acoustic late night show at the tiny Flicker Bar, less than a block away from our beloved 40 Watt Club. We ended up playing a set that included all but one song off of our new but still unfinished album. . This is a beautiful document of our band at a very crucial and joyous moment in time. I’m so happy that it exists and we’re thrilled to present it to you as part of our Decoration Day celebration.” - Patterson Hood (May 2025)

Lush’s Gala was the band’s debut compilation album, comprising their earliest releases — Scar (1989), Mad Love (1990), and Sweetness and Light (1990) — in reverse chronological order, plus two additional tracks (a cover version of ABBA’s “Hey Hey Helen” and the extended Robin Guthrie mix of Scar track “Scarlet”).
Originally released in 1990 as the band’s introduction to the US and Japanese markets, the compilation’s 35th anniversary is being celebrated with a 2025 reissue with new remasters by Kevin Vanbergen. Back in print for the first time since 1990, the LP features original artwork by V23.
“With their strumming swathed in electronic reverberation and other effects, Lush creates an undertow of opulent and churning harmony. Above it float Ms. Berenyi’s airy lead vocals and Ms. Anderson’s weightless descant, their chiming, overlapping lines calmly sketching disillusionment amid the maelstrom of guitars.
- The New York Times
“From the early standout ‘Sweetness and Light’ to the swooping beauty of ‘De-Luxe’ to the enjoyable romp through Abba’s ‘Hey Hey Helen,’ Gala is one continued win.”

“Fom the twisting stab of ‘De-Luxe’, the controlled thrash of ‘Downer’ or the heady swirl of ‘Thoughtforms’, Lush seemed like the perfect creation, right down to the beautiful Vaughan Oliver v23 artwork.”

Sales Text:
When Harmonia made an album, it was about more than just music. It was about a vision.
Deluxe, released in 1975, was the band's second album. Instead of pure sound experiments, this album focused more on structure, melody, and rhythm. Harmonia showed a new side of themselves – more accessible musically, without losing any of their depth.
50 years later, Deluxe is being released in a special anniversary edition – as a high-quality gatefold with previously unreleased photographic material and on orange vinyl, inspired by the artwork of the original pressing.
This edition is not only interesting for collectors, but for anyone who wants to understand why artists such as Brian Eno and David Bowie counted Harmonia among their most important influences – and why Deluxe is still considered a blueprint for electronic music today. Brian Eno himself once called Harmonia “the world's most important rock band”1 – an assessment that could hardly better underscore how visionary this music was then and still is today.
1. Quote from: David Stubbs: Future Days: Krautrock and the Building of Modern Germany. Faber & Faber, 2014.
Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier! was originally released in 2007, and will finally be back in print on vinyl for the first time outside of Canada. On this album, Corb Lund took a turn from his previous writing topics and settled on one theme for this record: historical military songs. “The Horse Soldier album apparently came out of left field for people,” said Lund. “We had just come off two straight gold records which both surprised me in terms of their commercial success. I just kept writing what I was feeling, and what I was feeling was a bunch of military history songs (apologies to Johnny Horton and Steve Earle). I’m really proud of sticking to my guns and releasing this album just how I envisioned it because to this day I have people tell me all the time that of all our records this is their favourite. It seems to be a very interesting mirror for the listener. Many people have told me they love it as an ‘anti-war’ record yet I’ve also had a ton of feedback from military guys, retired and active, who appreciate the acknowledgement of their work. I don’t know, maybe it’s both. I didn’t really have an agenda in mind at all when I wrote it other than presenting a bunch of war stories from different perspectives.”

TL;DR: South SF Bay Area mainstay Tony Molina is back with his most finely-realized album of classicist folk-rock yet. Informed by deep pop scholarship and Tony’s DIY roots, “On This Day” is packed with brilliant tunes, crafty arrangements and stellar melodies.
CD UPC: 749846029928
Packaging: Jewel Case Box Lot: 30
Much has been made of Tony Molina's simultaneous love of and history with feedback-overload punk *and* 60s-influenced folk-pop, but what really ties it all together is the belief in the *song* and telling your story in the most honest way possible. His new album On This Day might be the most Tony Molina album yet -- an achingly beautiful set of songs collaboratively produced and recorded by Tony and Alicia Vanden Heuvel (The Aislers Set).
An unhurried home recording process gave them plenty of time to experiment and hone the arrangements, adding Mellotron, piano, organ, mellotron, bells, trumpet and more to exquisite effect. Timeless folk/rock gems alternate seamlessly with straight-up acoustic folk tunes, intricate classical guitar interludes and baroque/soft-pop delicacies. This is an album in the truest sense - a cycle of songs linked by mood, melody, hook and purpose, and not by accident it's Tony's finest yet.

“I’m so chaotic in love,” sings Katie Austra Stelmanis on “Amnesia,” the cinematic opening track of Chin Up Buttercup, the fifth album by her alter ego and longtime pop project Austra You know Austra’s astonishing voice – singular and operatic, it betrays a fearlessness and sophistication. She’s the woman you’d be afraid to approach in a bar. Her voice draws you like a siren to the dance floor as the beats build toward the hypnotic chorus of “my life is not the same without you in my arms.” Listen closely and you’ll hear a vulnerability that sets this album apart from her earlier work. This is a grief album you can dance to.
Stelmanis, a classically trained musician and opera devotee with four previous albums and a Canadian Screen Award under her belt, has been singing dramatic arias about tragedy for years. Her secret? She didn’t really know what that devastation felt like. She only experienced it off stage in early 2020 when her long-term partner dropped a bombshell. “I was completely blindsided … the person I loved woke up one day, told me she wasn’t happy, and I never saw her again,” Stelmanis says. She confesses to feeling very at odds with the world, like nothing made sense. The album’s name is a reference to the societal pressure to just paste on a smile and keep going.
Stelmanis and co-producer Kieran Adams shared a mutual love of pop divas, Eurodance and hard-to-find techno. Madonna’s 1998 album Ray of Light, produced by William Orbit, was a key influence in the later stages of album making: “Ray of Light was produced almost entirely on a Juno-106 and a Korg MS-20 which we’d been using, so the reference point was aligned ,” says Stelmanis. The album sounds like a mix of hypnotic dance floor anthems and elegant melodies to soothe your broken heart.
• Chin Up Buttercup is Austra's fifth studio album, not counting her film scores, and she has amassed over 60 million streams across her catalog.
• Major market North American tour dates to be announced.

Los Angeles artist and musician Shlohmo
returns with a vinyl repress of two of his defining albums: ‘Bad Vibes’ and ‘The End’ . From the first sounds of Henry Laufer’s early work, it was clear he was forging a new path in electronic musicmelding hazy textures, emotive melodies, and fractured beats into a sound both intimate and expansive.
Bad Vibes introduced Shlohmo’s lo-fi, slow-
motion approach, crafting emotive atmospheres that would influence a generation of West Coast producers The End, a cinematic journey of chaos and calm, cemented his status as a visionary, blending apocalyptic tension with moments of quiet reflection, made with drum machines, vintage synths, and improvised recording techniques
These albums showcase Shlohmo at the height of his craft, balancing raw emotion with
meticulous sound design. Both records have shaped the landscape of modern electronic and lo-fi production, and now, on vinyl, they offer a tactile, immersive experience that captures every nuance of Laufer’s vision.

Kalia Vandever is a GRAMMY Award-winning trombonist and composer living in Brooklyn, NY. Her approach to the trombone is distinctive and defined by her sonorous tone and lyrical improvisational voice. She leans into the challenges of the instrument and allows patience and melody guide her process.
Another View, the latest release from Kalia Vandever, explores over-idealization and romanticization and the insidious horrors born from adapting to dysfunction.
Featuring Mary Halvorson on guitar, Kanoa Mendenhall on bass, and Kayvon Gordon on drums, this book of music is inspired in part by Carmen Maria Machado’s memoir In the Dream House.
The EP invites the listener to examine what emerges from cyclical forms and free-flowing melodies via repetition and intentional, deep listening.

Caged Animals is singer-songwriter Vincent Cacchione and visual artist Magali Charron. The son of a NYC stand-up comic and a public school teacher, Vin gravitated to songwriting at a young age and became a student at the anti-folk academy at the East Village’s fabled Sidewalk Café. From early solo performances to his work in the underrated noir-indie-rocker’s Soft Black (with DIIV’s Cole Smith), Vin’s songs have maintained a cutting sincerity.
Over the last decade, he has collaborated with pioneering figures in fiction podcasts like Welcome to Night Vale, The Space Within, and Hedwig creator John Cameron Mitchell, honing his craft as a storyteller and songwriter along the way.
Make Strange Friends was conceived during a transitional moment in Vin and Magali’s lives, after relocating to Magali’s hometown in Sackville, New Brunswick. There they met low-key indie legend Jon Mckiel, who as co-producer, helped Caged Animals embrace a raw, spontaneous recording approach on his Tascam 388 tape machine. The album harks to lo-fi treasures like The Basement Tapes and Mellow Gold, marrying rough-hewn, folky impressionism with a lush, post-modern palette,
Make Strange Friends parses the world through its binaries: the characters are either running away or stuck forever, totally isolated or desperately connected. The music strikes haunted chords, but the characters say funny things. Caged Animals have crafted a multifaceted album that is both a time capsule from a weird era and a tender love letter to the next chapter.
Vin Cacchione is one of the finest indie songwriters around. He’s written nine beautifully evocative songs that inhabit their characters whether it’s a song about leaving rehab, losing friends way too soon, or the tentative stabs at a new relationship under the Blood Moon. Plus he respects his elders: Building A Monster builds on Dylan’s My Own Version of You but instead of channeling Marx, Freud and St. John, Vin’s monster is buying bulk at Costco! And the spoken word finale, Make Strange Friends is totally prescient in its anticipation of the US/Canada tariff wars, the immigration crisis, and the ever-looming specter of climate change. A new Caged Animals LP is always a celebration in Ratsotown. - Larry “Ratso” Sloman
Shimmering moonlit ballads and highway meditations from an antifolk authority. A record of thought provoking aphorisms retrieved from the lifelines of personal experience. Caged Animals are the genuine article, a warm sentimentality communicated straight from the heart. - Adam Green
Captivating and cinematic! Beautiful short films for the ears and soul! - Julie Doiron
God himself could not have created a more perfect collection of songs. - Zachary Cole Smith (DIIV)

In anticipation of the group's upcoming Mexican tour dates we are happy to announce that both Spanish sung tracks from their LP will now be available on 45. With lead vocals shared between Adriana Flores and Brian Ponce the interplay between their unique timbres brings a romantic quality to the music that is absent in many of today's soul offerings. "Del cielo te cuido", a gorgeous ballad about the unconditional nature of true love, builds into an uplifting waltz–showcasing the delicate and effective interplay between Ponce and Flores. Sung in unison, "Perdóname" is a viby, mid-tempo shuffle whose dreamy swing–courtesy of their unassailable rhythm section: Caitlin Moss (drums) and Chris Manjarrez (bass)–transports you to another time and place.

Resistance is Fertile was recorded using layered first take performances. All tracks were recorded to “dance music” tempo markings (between 120-172 beats per minute, or BPM) beginning with voice memo beatboxes, layered on top by drums, synths and finally horns. These multitracked improvisations were then edited and mixed into the compositions heard on the album.
JMMR is built for guests, and the album features blinding improvisational contributions from reedmen to the stars Stuart Bogie and Cochemea Gastelum, and global sensations Morgan Priceand Ricardo Quinones...
JMMR (Jordan McLean's Musical Resistance) brings you the new sounds of Electrobeat, with their debut album Resistance is Fertile. Resisting despair since 2019,the Resistance was rebuilt for the long haul in 2024. Founded by long-time Antibalas trumpeter and bandleader/arranger Jordan McLean, the members of the Musical Resistance have performed with a diverse array of artists such as The Roots, TV on the Radio, Tony Allen, Steven Tyler, Iron and Wine, Zack Bryan, David Byrne, Patti Labelle, Sharon Jones and the Dapkings, JRAD, Medeski Martin & Wood and Ornette Coleman to name only a very few. At the bandʼs core lies a fusion of synthetic and natural elements, where machines enhance human expression. Both familiar and unrecognizable, traditional musical techniques undergo electronic synthesis yielding unforeseen outcomes creating an internet radio dance tempo avant-rave.

Iranian-born, London-based innovator Leila has been described as one of the “1990s forgotten mavericks” (Pitchfork) and is an integral member of the golden generation of boundary-pushing electronic producers, working with the likes of Bjork, Terry Hall, Martina TopleyBird, and Aphex Twin.
After releasing her debut album ‘Like Weather’ via Aphex Twin’s label Rephlex in 1998, Leila signed to XL and released ‘Courtesy of Choice’ in 2000, an album described as “creative, highly listenable, unpretentious electronic music at its best” (Exclaim!).
To celebrate the album’s 25th anniversary, Leila reissues ‘Courtesy of Choice … asides and besides’, the expanded edition of her seminal XL Recordings sophomore album. Here Leila blends glitchy textures, emotive melodies, and off-kilter beats to craft deeply personal sonic landscapes. Led by “Lush Nova Elec”, her work helped shape the post-trip-hop, IDM-influenced sound of the early 2000s, influencing the generation that followed.
In parts, Courtesy of Choice is almost a pastoral techno take on city sickness: Eno or The Aphex Twin meets the sounds o’ The Massive perhaps, or DJ Shadow, or Soul II Soul deconstructed by Jah Wobble. - Hot Press
Natacha Atlas is an internationally-acclaimed artist with one of the world’s most distinctive voices. The Anglo-Egyptian singer has spent more than three decades fusing electronic beats with North African and Arabic music, finding links between seemingly disparate musical genres, exploring new and different sonic settings and working with a wealth of like-minded collaborators from across the world along the way. The resulting body of work is both a triumph of true multiculturalism and a testament to the richness and accessibility of Arabic culture. It is, indeed, an oeuvre unlike any other. Presiding over it all, of course, is Atlas’s extraordinary voice. Meltingly sensuous and gloriously passionate, delicate with melisma and microtones, it bridges Middle Eastern and Western styles with instinctive ease.
The Best Of Natacha Atlas was originally released in May 2005, and we are excited to present a remastered version, available on vinyl for the first time. When this best-of was originally released, Natacha didn’t want to just put out a collection of only album tracks. Several tracks were new mixes and re-workings that Natacha chose to do, and at the time, she said “I decided to re-record a few tracks that I felt needed an overhaul or bringing up to date”. Her stunning versions of the Françoise Hardy classic “Mon Amie La Rose”, the James Bond theme “You Only Live Twice”, “I Put A Spell On You” as made famous by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and James Brown’s “(It’s a Man’s Man’s) Man’s World” are also included.
To date, Natacha has released nine studio albums, the first seven of which were released on Beggars labels Nation and Mantra. Her most recent album Strange Days, was released in 2019.

Ship Sket is 26 year old Josh Griffiths. Originally from Dorset, he's lived in Manchester for seven years and forged his own path within the city's welcoming and close-knit music scene, arriving on Planet Mu this autumn with his debut album InitiatriX.
Sonically the album is a homage to the UK styles that Josh loves: dubstep, grime, drill and rap, but on an emotional level it’s about spirituality, fetish, and latent darkness hidden by outward appearances.
Josh says about his process “I like happy accidents, messing around and resampling, and kind of seeing how far I can push stuff before it disintegrates in front of me.“ Not so much deconstructed so much as derailed; “I’ve heard my tunes on a club system and gone wow that mix sounds bad, but the tune is still popping. My approach is a lot more stylistic than it is technical.“
InitiatriX is a smeared mix of distorted pop, underwater drill, dubby musique concrète and the downright dada. There are dramatic string passages and naked piano; Josh drops from twitchy electronics to blooms of distortion, found-sound and lo-fi drum patterns and sometimes all those things at once.
“I do think of production as a divine practice because it is a mass-channeling of creative force. Putting together a track is drawing down energy and organising it into the best possible shape, like a huge elaborate puzzle. Sometimes the tracks will write themselves, and that is a beautiful feeling.“
This approach to writing is manifest throughout InitiatriX. Take Vendetta's Theme (ft. Charlie Osborne) - a pounding drill beat covered in a layer of filthy distortion with demonic vocals rapping about spiders, alchemy and isolation - the vocals and sample chops forcing their way through the song's web of grit; or the subtle intensity of Mimikyu’s slow paced and ornate strings, cast against repeated cute bleeps and incidental details to form a hypnotic club tool. Permanent Kigurumi's lonely melody, cloaked in a haunted atmosphere, rubs against explosive drill drums and a vocal snatch whispering “Just Like You.”
Ship Sket's music is strange and beguiling, rough and sensuous all at the same time.
Avant-pop singer and bassist Hélène Barbier seeds melodies that ferment in her head, pairing hummable lines with alien tunes conjured in someone else’s psyche across time and space. She creates an imbalance through juxtaposition. Four simple notes become evocative alongside four disorienting, different notes, and this simplistic rule has become a basis for complex play.
The Montreal-based artist enlists musicians based on their willingness to break from tired chords, worn fills, and needless flourish—expertise aside. She switches between English and French atop aggressively anti-complicated melodies. Off-kilter beauty ensues. Pretension and contrived professionalism are kept far away as these sketches find mature forms in songs that keep
On November 14th, Barbier will unveil Panorama , her third full-length album.
Thro ugh a symphony of sticky jangle pop riffs, guttural melodies, and intricate grooves, the record evokes a dying jukebox spitting out its last perfect songs.

In the world of Smote, going further out means going inward. Less a metaphysical journey into inner space, more a physical journey into the ground itself, converging with its roots and vibrations. Forged from repetition and mantric intensity and possessed of formidable psychic fortitude, Songs from the Free House - their fifth release for Rocket Recordings - proves that the only retro-chic Smote indulge in is liable to go back several centuries. The megalithic monomania of last year's A Grand Stream set a formidable precedent, and Smote's live shows in its wake have gradually built a reputation as visionary seers building audial monuments by cranked amplification and atmospheric intensity alike. Yet these five gnostic serenades offer portals and paradigms anew.
In terms of locating this album in place, this new foray also differs from Smote's past work in terms of its recording - although once again chief architect Daniel Foggin played and sang almost everything on this record (bar guest appearances from Sally Mason of the Smote live band on vocals and Ian Lynch from Lankum on Uillean pipes) his recording Songs From The Free House in Blank Studios with Sam Grant (Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs) marked a journey from the DIY minimal approach of yore into more widescreen visions without compromising the singular intent within.
Wrought from the earth, transposed to the ether, and now shared with the world at large, this album marks a transcendental journey where Smote render ancient and modern indivisible. Just as traditional music is passed down through generations, Songs From The Free House is where the primal collides with the eternal.
