PHILLIP SILVERSTEIN

Above St. Barths

There are places that photograph well, and there are places that transform the photographer. For Phillip Silverstein, St. Barths is the latter. Its crystalline light, sculptural shorelines, and effortless sense of privilege have become not just scenery, but a catalyst — shaping the way he sees and the art he creates.

Silverstein’s images from the island are not travel photography; they are intimate moments.

From the air — his signature vantage point — St. Barths dissolves into a geometry of purity: long strokes of turquoise, yacht wakes etched into clean white lines, and shadows drifting lightly across curves of sand. His lens captures not movement itself, but the memory of movement.

This refined stillness is the foundation of his artistry. Each photograph feels weightless, minimalist, and emotionally resonant.

It becomes the visual equivalent of standing at the top of Colombier, where the wind is stronger and cleaner. It is the feeling of freedom — a quiet, elevated sensation that settles into the body in a way only St. Barths can.

Immersion in the island’s textures also pushed Silverstein beyond the camera. He began painting with palm leaves, allowing their natural forms to guide his strokes, and sculpting with repurposed dead trees, giving discarded materials new life. These works mirror the themes of his photography: clarity, intention, and a deep respect for nature’s architecture.

His sensitivity to quiet elegance has also led him into rare private circles. On St. Barths, Silverstein is often invited into intimate settings — family moments, private villas, and life aboard superyachts owned by celebrities and discerning families. He understands the subtle luxury of privacy. His presence is discreet; his eye gentle yet precise, capturing authenticity without intrusion.

Collectors gravitate to this serenity. Silverstein’s St. Barths works are now among his most sought-after pieces, prized for their ability to elevate a space without overwhelming it. Installed in private residences or onboard yachts, they become windows into an emotion — the purity of perspective, the calm of the open sea, the timeless beauty of rising above the noise.

In a world that moves fast, Silverstein frames the moments that don’t.

The quiet. The clarity. The lines shaped by wind and water. And the rare freedom found only when you see the world from above.

BACK TO ST. BARTHS

Welcome to the 2025/2026 Season

Renewal in Full Bloom

After a long, sun-soaked summer, St Barths has never looked more alive. The island is vibrant and green again, with palms swaying over freshly smoothed roads and new pathways and improvements that make every journey a little smoother.

Everywhere you look, there’s a feeling of care, the quiet result of months of work and devotion that keep this place extraordinary. This season also brings a wave of delicious anticipation. Exciting new restaurants are opening their doors, while beloved favorites return with fresh menus and renewed energy. From long, sun-kissed lunches that turn into

DJ-fueled afternoons to vibrant dinners with live music, international performers, and unforgettable shows, dining on the island has never felt more alive.

It’s a moment to celebrate everything St. Barths does best — evolving gracefully, welcoming warmly, and reminding us why coming back always feels brand new.

Where to Sunday Funday

Sundays in St Barths are a ritual — a day when music, sunshine, and sea breeze blend into something unforgettable. Along St Jean Beach, the island’s legendary beach clubs each create their own rhythm and style, transforming lunch into a full-sensory celebration. At La Guérite beach, Mediterranean flavors meet sunset energy; Gypsea beach captures bohemian charm with sand-between-your-toes freedom; Nao beach redefines island elegance with sleek design and modern beats; and Nikki Beach remains the eternal classic, where champagne, sunshine, and good music never go out of style. Together, they form the heartbeat of the island’s social scene — each one distinct, but all undeniably St Barths.

Where to Stay

Perched above the harbor of Gustavia, Fouquet’s Saint-Barth , part of the prestigious Barrière Group, embodies the perfect balance of French art de vivre and island serenity. Reimagined in 2020 after an extensive renovation, this intimate five-star property offers just 16 suites and one exclusive villa, each with a private plunge pool and sweeping Caribbean views. Surrounded by tropical gardens yet steps from Gustavia’s boutiques and nightlife, the hotel also features Beefbar, Shellona Beach Club, and the Spa Diane Barrière in partnership with Biologique Recherche a haven of well-being where sophistication and relaxation meet under the St Barths sun.

Where to Shop

Foodland

+590 590 51 96 99

Tucked away in the heart of St Barths, this isn’t a typical épicerie — it’s a true gastronomy concept store, born in December 2020 from a trusted food purveyor that has served the island for more than 30 years. Designed to inspire as much as to nourish, Foodland curates fine ingredients from around the world: premium meats, seafood, seasonal produce, truffles, caviar, artisanal cheeses, Italian pastas, Japanese teas, French wines, and American barbecue staples, along with a refined kosher selection. The space also celebrates culinary craft with cookbooks, Japanese knives, konro grills, truffle slicers, and tools that help turn inspiration into unforgettable meals.

Where to Dine

Bar des Prés @bardespres.stbarth

At the crossroads of tropical luxury and Japanese refinement, Bar des Prés makes its St Barths debut following acclaimed openings in Paris, London, and Dubai. Created by celebrated chef Cyril Lignac, the restaurant blends the precision of Japanese gastronomy with the island’s effortless charm. Guests discover modern raw cuisine — delicate nigiri, sashimi, ceviche, airy tempura, and the iconic Crispy Crab Galette with Madras curry. Desserts fuse French pâtisserie with Japanese delicacy, while cocktails of yuzu, shiso, and Caribbean rum complete an experience that’s both cosmopolitan and unmistakably St Barths.

Lucali Pizza

+590 690 37 64 75

In the heart of St Barths, the legendary Brooklyn pizzeria Lucali makes its island debut, blending Italian authenticity with Brooklyn cool and Caribbean ease. Founded by Mark Iacono in 2006, Lucali is famed for whisper-thin crusts, wood-fired mastery, and simple perfection that has captivated New York’s culinary elite. If you see, you think differently.

When I press the shutter all my culture , ethics, all my experience come together in a split of a second, and I hope all worked.

KAROLINA KARLSSON

Green Kimono – Lolita Jaca

Karolina Karlsson is a Swedish-American artist based between New York and St. Barth’s. Her style merges Swedish minimalism with Caribbean palettes and themes. She draws inspiration from the human form, food, and illustrative silhouettes, exploring proportion to create designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and playful. Her work has been exhibited internationally, most notably at the Saatchi Gallery in London during Focus Art Fair, The Rosewood Le Guanahani in St. Barth’s, and SCOPE Art Show in Miami.

1.- Your work often feels suspended between place and memory. When you begin a piece, what trace of a moment are you trying to capture, and why that moment?

I aim to capture a feeling of nostalgia. The colours, bikinis, wine, and fruit — all of these elements transport me, and hopefully the viewer, to a moment shared with friends or loved ones. Many of my fondest memories on the island have unfolded over long, joyful lunches by the beach, and I imagine many islanders share that same sentiment. Embarrassingly, I used to shed a tear on the plane every time I left, knowing I’d have to wait another year before experiencing the island again. These paintings are like little love letters to some of the happiest times of my life.

2.- In your studio, what is your companion in creation — a sound, an object, a mood — and how does it guide you toward the finished piece?

Funnily enough, my studio partner is my true companion in creation. Eve B. is my greatest motivator and inspiration. When we’re together, the space transforms into a creative hub, full of ideas and collaborative energy which has lead to art collaborations. The combination of having a team mate and being surrounded by the vibrance of the scenery of St. Barths in the winter completes the vision behind my work.

3.- Travel, time, and terrain are themes we know you explore. What unexpected location or landscape recently inspired you, and how did it translate into colour or texture?

Sweden has an unexpected influence on my art style. The yellows and blues, clean lines, and minimalist silhouttes are shaped by my Scandinavian heritage. These elements remind me of summer time on Sweden’s West Coast. Coincidentally, St. Barth’s was a Swedish colony for nearly a century, and the island still carries a distinctly Scandinavian essence that continues to influence my style, even here in the Caribbean.

4.- For a viewer encountering your piece for the first time, what subtle invitation are you extending — a silence, a question, or a sensation?

My paintings are windows into memories with my favourite people — filled with laughter, dancing, eating, drinking, and being unapologetically goofy. They’re about unlocking a youthful part of ourselves, where life feels less serious and more indulgent. I am inviting the viewer into these moments so they can relive a special memory with their friends, or, to create new ones.

5.- Looking ahead to your next chapter of work, what new horizon beckons — a new medium, a deeper collaboration, or a fresh emotional territory? All I can say is there are new mediums and narratives on the horizon but you’ll have to stay tuned and find out! ;) Follow me on Instagram @karolinakarlssonart for sneak peeks into my process and upcoming works!

For those visiting St. Barth’s this winter, my work will be on view in the lobby of The Rosewood Le Guanahani from November 24 to March 15, and are available for purchase in the Artists of St. Barth Gallery in St Jean. For inquiries, please visit www.artSBH.com.

LOLOFT Love Your Work

The Company Transforming Commercial Real Estate for Startups, Entrepreneurs, and Corporations

In the rapidly shifting landscape of U.S. commercial real estate, one startup is quietly rewriting the rules— and, as many early adopters are discovering, redefining the very experience of work. Based in Northwest Arkansas and backed by RZC Investments, the investment platform for Steuart and Tom Walton, grandsons of Walmart founder Sam Walton, Loloft has emerged as one of the most innovative hybrid workspace companies in the country. Its promise is simple yet radical: “Love Your Work”.

At first glance, Loloft appears to be part of the coworking movement. Look closer, and it becomes clear that it is something else entirely—a commercial real estate operations platform built for the new economy, where entrepreneurs, digital creatives, e-commerce brands, and even large corporate customers can work side by side.

A New Category: Hybrid Warehousing + Coworking

Loloft’s model sits at the intersection of two industries that have remained surprisingly unchanged: coworking and industrial warehousing. Startups that once struggled to find functional, affordable space—or who were forced to operate from garages or storage units—now gain access to warehouse studios, office suites, and full amenitized coworking space, all under one roof.

For e-commerce brands—particularly Amazon sellers—the model has been transformative.

“Amazon requires you to have a loading dock,” says one tenant, “but I also can’t sit in a storage unit for five hours waiting for UPS. Loloft receives all my packages, and I can operate my business like a real company.”

— Julius Isoa, Loloft member in Phoenix

This simple operational upgrade has enabled small brands to scale faster, reduce overhead, and streamline fulfillment—benefits typically reserved for larger players.

Corporates Are Taking Notice

One month ago, Loloft launched Corporate Solutions, a product designed for enterprise teams testing new markets or offering employees flexible, modern space. In Phoenix, where the newest location opened, corporate teams are already occupying fully designed suites featuring:

• All-inclusive pricing with no surprises.

• Meeting rooms and coworking access.

• Kitchens and concierge-style amenities.

• Free parking—rare in most traditional coworking models.

• Immediate move-in options for rapid deployment.

For corporates, the appeal is clear: speed, clarity, and modernity. In a business environment where expansion cycles are shrinking, teams cannot afford multimonth buildouts or multi-year commitments. Loloft eliminates that lag entirely.

And for employees? The design-forward interiors, natural light, and functional layouts do exactly what the brand’s slogan promises: they help people fall in love with their work again.

The secret? Loloft has solved two of the most painful barriers in commercial leasing:

• Long-term commitments that lock businesses into 3–5 year contracts.

• Costly, slow buildouts that stall operations for months.

Instead, the company offers ready-to-move-in private warehouses, offices, and meeting spaces with no longterm leases, no buildout hassle, and no utilities setup. For the founders, the mission has always been about eliminating friction so companies can focus on what truly matters—growing.

A Category-Defining Expansion

Loloft currently operates two locations, with a third on the way, and has another six in the immediate development pipeline; however, the momentum is unmistakable. With strong demand, support from RZC, and a maturing operational model, the company is preparing for rapid expansion into 15 additional U.S. markets, focusing on high-growth regions where startups, remote teams, and e-commerce brands are concentrated.

Industry analysts have begun referring to Loloft as the “missing middle” in commercial real estate—a flexible, scalable solution positioned between coworking and traditional industrial space. For inves-

tors tracking the future of work, logistics, and the shift toward decentralized commerce, Loloft sits at a particularly compelling intersection.

A Seed Round With Significant Early Interest

Following its recognition as a winner in Steve Case’s Rise of the Rest competition, Loloft is now preparing its seed round, projected to close by the end of Q1 2026. With 30% of the capital already committed, interest has quietly accelerated as early investors recognize the potential for a category-dominant platform—one that could scale nationally, then internationally, as hybrid work and micro-fulfillment continue to reshape supply chains.

The founders emphasize that the raise is not an urgent call for capital but rather a strategic step to accelerate proven demand. Yet the sense of momentum is unmistakable.

Markets are shifting, new work models are emerging, and companies are demanding flexibility that traditional landlords simply cannot deliver.

And for those watching the transformation of commercial real estate, Loloft’s trajectory is starting to look like one of those rare opportunities that later define an early investor’s portfolio.

The Future of Work, Happening Now

When asked what ultimately differentiates Loloft, its founders return to the same principle: make life easier for people building businesses.

Whether it’s a first-time online seller, a growing creative agency, a regional operations team, or a Fortune 500 company testing a new market, Loloft offers one simple promise:

• See. Sign. Start.

• No delays. No friction. No long-term commitments.

In a world where speed is strategy—and where work is increasingly flexible, mobile, and decentralized— Loloft is not simply offering space. It is offering momentum.

And everyone knows: momentum attracts winners. Momentum creates market leaders. Momentum rewards those who join early.

For those paying attention, Loloft is already moving.

Where Japanese Finesse Meets Island Elegance

At the crossroads of tropical luxury and Japanese artistry, Bar des Prés arrives in Saint Barthélemy following its celebrated addresses in Paris, London, and Dubai.

Conceived by the famous French Chef Cyril Lignac, the restaurant seamlessly blends the precision of Japanese gastronomy with the laid-back charm of the Caribbean. In a refined yet understated setting, guests discover a modern interpretation of raw cuisine from delicate nigiri and sashimi to signature maki, vibrant ceviche, airy tempura, and the iconic Crispy Crab Galette infused with Madras curry.

Desserts bring together the best of both worlds, the elegance of French pâtisserie and the delicacy of Japanese indulgence. Think passion-vanilla profiteroles, praline millefeuille, and exotic pavlova, each a study in texture and flavor.

At the bar, the experience continues with premium sake, Japanese whisky, and cocktails laced with yuzu, shiso, or Caribbean rum, creating an atmosphere that is at once sophisticated, cosmopolitan, and irresistibly St Barth.

Mamo Michelangelo

Born in Antibes, in the south of France, Mamo's celebrated Italian journey begins the moment guests step into the restaurant. At first glance, diners are greeted by the pasta station, the pizzaiolo, and the Cuccina. In 2024, Mamo sought a new idyllic location and brought its famed experience to the coveted island of Saint-Barthélemy. The magic unfolded in 2024 when Mamo opened its doors in Gustavia, offering a slice of authentic Cucina Italiana. Ready to celebrate an endless summer in style?

Open for dinner, Monday to Saturday

Gyp Sea Restaurant

Set along the powder-soft shoreline of SaintJean, Gyp Sea Beach is a carefree bohemian playground where sun, sea, and island spirit come together effortlessly. From the moment you arrive, the rhythm is relaxed: guests drift between paddleboarding in the lagoon, lounging on oversized indigo cushions, or sharing a lazy game of backgammon on sun-washed wooden sofas. It’s the kind of place where lunch turns into afternoon dancing, and afternoons linger into barefoot evenings under the palms.

The beachside restaurant celebrates the colours and textures of the Caribbean shades of indigo, ultramarine and raw denim echo the sea, while coral-patterned fabrics, vintage rattan, and salt-kissed wood create a relaxed, end-of-the-world elegance. On the menu,

everything revolves around the barbecue: grilled lobster with lemon confit, smoky lamb chops with roasted eggplant, the signature charred watermelon salad, and even desserts caramelised over embers rum-roasted pineapple, charred bananas, and warm cookies cooked in the coals.

Steps away, the Gyp Sea Bazaar boutique curates a globe-trotting selection of Gypset fashion, from embroidered Parisian pieces to handwoven saris and island-inspired accessories. As the day drifts into golden hour, the Ti Punch & Calypso Bar sets the mood with Caribbean beats, craft cocktails, rare rums, and an easygoing beach-party spirit that keeps guests returning day after day.

Complementing this sun-drenched atmosphere is Beefbar, an urban-chic concept where international street food favorites are reinvented with exceptional ingredients.

Truffle- enhanced quesadillas, bao buns filled with jasmine-smoked Black Angus beef, and king-crab tacos like no other, showcase the creativity of the kitchen. The menu celebrates the world’s most exclusive meats from Japanese Kobe to Black Angus and Wagyu, accompanied by signature cocktails and decadent desserts. With breathtaking views over Gustavia harbor and lively DJ sets, Beefbar offers a cosmopolitan yet relaxed dining experience, where sophistication seamlessly meets pleasure.

The Mangrove Guéridon:

The Timeless Radiance of Norman Bronze

The Mangrove Guéridon is far more than a piece of furniture; it is a collector's item, issued as a limited edition and born from the unique craftsmanship of the workshops in Villedieu-les-Poêles, Normandy. This region, renowned for crafting the bells of Chartres Cathedral, continues a centuries-old art of foundry.

I chose bronze for its imperishable nature—a quality that makes it the material of choice for creating objects meant to be passed down through generations. Its inherent tendency is to oxidize, naturally evolving into a verdigris patina or transforming through an applied chemical finish.

For the Mangrove, I sought to capture the sunlit radiance of its original state. Its golden aspect is thus sealed for eternity under a protective layer of varnish, a finish that preserves and highlights the luminous identity of this noble metal. A contemporary interpretation of a secular heritage.

Offer your cherished moments the setting they deserve. True luxury lies in immortalizing emotion through art.

THE LIGHT OF SAND

Victor Matthews at Space Gallery St Barth

Events that unfold

This season, Space Gallery St Barth celebrates its fifteenth year as one of the island’s cultural landmarks. To mark the occasion the season kicks off with a luminous solo exhibition by acclaimed American artist Victor Matthews. The Light of Sand invites visitors to experience the serenity, rhythm, and radiance that define both Matthews’ work and Saint Barthélemy itself.

For over fifteen years, Space Gallery has been an island staple — a destination where art, travel, and luxury meet. Its Gustavia gallery has become a meeting place for community and a place to discover and enjoy art - championing a dynamic roster of international artists while remaining deeply rooted in the island’s creative spirit through the local talent it respresents. The Light of Sand by Victor Matthews continues that legacy, offering an intimate dialogue between artist and place.

Known for his serene, abstract canvases, Matthews captures the quiet pulse of Saint Barth through soft tones of ivory, sand, and bone, animated by bold black lines. His paintings feel like visual meditations — calm yet alive, reflecting what he calls “the connection that exists among all living things.”

Born in Brooklyn in 1963, Matthews emerged from New York’s legendary 1980s art scene alongside Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Donald Baechler, while studying under Francesco Clemente and Brice Marden. Today, his works reside in the permanent collections of LACMA and the Boca Raton Museum of Art as well as numerous private collections.

In The Light of Sand, Matthews channels the island’s radiant light and tranquil rhythm into his most introspective series yet. Each canvas mirrors Saint Barth’s landscape — its blinding sun, shifting tides, and golden calm — distilling them into gestures of balance and presence. Like the island itself, his art invites us to slow down, breathe, and simply be. Victor Matthews solo exhibition opens Thanks giving week and his work will be on view throughout the season.

The Art of Alpine Living

How the AF Group and Chef Eric Frechon

Redefined Winter Gastronomy Across Europe’s Most Glamorous Peaks.

Stand-first:

Across Megève, Courchevel, Crans-Montana, and Gstaad, the AF Group has transformed winter into a celebration of flavour, theatre, and the timeless charm of Alpine living. In collaboration with Chef Eric Frechon, their restaurants create a world where gastronomy, joy, and mountain life become inseparable.

There are mountains, and then there is the idea of the mountains a world of softness, glowing chalets, and the quiet magic of snow settling over the pines. It is this dreamlike version of winter the Annie Famose Group first imagined decades ago, and that the AF Group, led by Sarah and David Brémond, has elevated into a modern Alpine lifestyle.

Across Europe’s most iconic ski resorts, the group has shaped destinations that are more than restau-

rants. They are vibrant expressions of conviviality, craftsmanship, and the French art de vivre. Central to this world is their creative partnership with Chef Eric Frechon, Meilleur Ouvrier de France and one of the most influential culinary voices of his generation. His cuisine forms the emotional and gastronomic backbone of the AF Group’s mountain identity.

Together, the AF Group and Frechon have crafted a new Alpine vernacular one where gastronomy is generous, festive, and deeply connected to the feeling of winter.

MEGÈVE, The Spiritual Home

Megève has long embodied a kind of whispered luxury: intimate, elegant, glowing with history. It is here that the AF Group’s philosophy is expressed most fully, beginning with La Ferme Saint-Amour, a restaurant that has become an emblem of modern Alpine dining. More than a table, it is a nightly ritual. Warm light spills over wood beams, velvet textures soften the room, and Frechon’s dishes unfold like stories shaped by memory, terroir, and technique.

His cuisine in Megève honours regional ingredients with playful refinement: Savoyard classics elevated with lightness, seasonal vegetables treated with reverence, sauces crafted with a painter’s touch. Each plate is comforting yet surprising a signature balance that feels both nostalgic and new.

By night, La Ferme Saint-Amour transforms into a festive salon. Performers weave between tables, live shows animate the room, and the atmosphere turns electric. In the AF universe, dining is not static; it pulses with energy, laughter, and a sense of occasion.

High above the village, perched at 1,800 metres, Chalet Sauvage becomes Megève’s sunlit playground. Skiers arrive from fresh powder to discover a wide terrace washed in winter light, a welcoming chalet atmosphere, and a menu shaped by Frechon’s “cuisine d’auteur.”

Here, each dish celebrates Alpine produce while embracing global influences. By late afternoon, Chalet Sauvage erupts into music and movement DJs, performers, and a lively crowd turning the slopes into a joyful celebration. At Chalet Sauvage, winter isn’t observed; it’s lived.

COURCHEVEL, The Theatre of Elegance

Where Megève is discreet, Courchevel is luminous a resort where winter sparkles with cinematic glamour. It is the perfect backdrop for the AF Group’s most indulgent interpretation of Alpine dining.

At La Ferme Saint-Amour Courchevel, Frechon presents a slightly richer style of cuisine, shaped by a cosmopolitan audience who appreciate refinement infused with comfort. His plates blend boldness with finesse: truffle-laced creations, expertly roasted meats, and pastries that feel almost sculptural. The energy is warm, sophisticated, and undeniably Courchevel.

As the night settles, the restaurant becomes a theatre of winter pleasure. Candlelight flickers on velvet booths, glasses rise in celebration, and conversations stretch long into the evening. This is Courchevel at its most enchanting: glamorous, social, and radiating a sense of Alpine chic.

CRANS-MONTANA, A Modern Swiss Story

In Crans-Montana, the AF Group brings its signature joie de vivre to a setting defined by crisp air, panoramic landscapes, and modern Swiss elegance. Here, La Ferme Saint-Amour Crans-Montana reflects the resort’s contemporary sensibility.

Frechon’s cooking for this address has a clear, refined brightness flavours that feel balanced and spirited, with subtle nods to Swiss produce and Alpine heritage. The mood is joyful yet composed, attracting an international crowd that appreciates both good food and lively atmosphere. As the evening progresses, the restaurant becomes a stylish gathering point where elegance and energy coexist naturally.

GSTAAD, Whispered Luxury

Gstaad is one of the world’s rare enclaves of understated opulence a place where luxury whispers. Into this refined landscape, the AF Group introduced La Ferme Saint-Amour Gstaad, blending the resort’s discretion with the bold, playful spirit of the SaintAmour universe.

The result is intimate yet exuberant: warm woods, soft lighting, couture-like details, and the signature Saint-Amour ambiance shaped by Swiss restraint. Frechon’s dishes here lean into subtlety and grace. Classics soften into delicate interpretations; local ingredients are treated with reverence. Dinner becomes a quiet dialogue between French culinary artistry and Gstaad’s serene sophistication.

In Gstaad, the AF Group proves that festivity can be elegant, and elegance can be festive.

What unifies all four destinations is the unmistakable presence of Eric Frechon. He does not simply cook; he composes balancing Alpine comfort with haute gastronomy, warmth with technique, heart with precision. His cuisine carries the depth of winter: the richness of broths, the earthy complexity of roots and game, and the elegance of carefully layered flavours. What makes his partnership with the AF Group resonate is a shared belief: dining is not just about the plate, but about the moment the sound of a room, the people around the table, the snow falling outside.

A new Alpine Era

From Megève to Gstaad, the AF Group has crafted an irresistible vision of winter: lively, generous, elegant, and rooted in the simple joy of being together. Their restaurants are not just destinations, but invitations to celebrate, to share, to savour the season.

In this world, the mountains are not merely a setting. They are the heartbeat.

And through the partnership with Eric Frechon, they have never felt or tasted more extraordinary.

The Frechon Signature

Helping Rhinos

Rhinos in Crisis

Rhinos are among the most critically endangered species on Earth. At the beginning of the 20th century, more than 500,000 rhinos—the planet’s second-largest land mammal—roamed freely across Africa and Asia. Since then, relentless poaching and widespread habitat loss have devastated their numbers. Today, fewer than 27,000 rhinos remain in the wild, most confined to protected parks and sanctuaries.

The main driver of this crisis is the illegal trade in rhino horn, fuelled largely by demand in parts of Asia. Despite being made of keratin, the same substance found in human hair and fingernails, rhino horn is falsely believed to possess powerful medicinal properties, said to cure everything from hangovers to cancer. This dangerous myth has turned rhino horn into one of the most valuable commodities on the black market, at times worth more than gold.

Helping Rhinos

Helping Rhinos is an international charity that is working to create Rhino Strongholds – expanding wild spaces for wildlife that provide a secure, sustainable and healthy eco-system which is rich in biodiversity. These Rhino Strongholds are areas where populations of rhino can thrive in their natural habitat while simultaneously contributing to socioeconomic stability within local communities.

The charity’s work tackles the three key threats to sustainable populations of rhino on our planet:

• Poaching

• Lack Of Habitat

• Disengaged Communities.

Helping Rhinos achieves its goals by working in partnership with carefully selected partners who share their vision, and focusing on their three key conservation pillars:

• PROTECT the Wildlife

• PRESERVE their Habitat

• PROVIDE for People

Some of the success Helping Rhinos have enjoyed since its launch include:

• Rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned rhinos.

• Aerial and ground anti-poaching patrols.

• Fitting of GPS tracking devices.

• Protection of the largest population of Eastern black rhino in the world.

• Building of new schools in areas surrounding Rhino Strongholds.

Rhino Orphans

Over the past decade, the surge in rhino poaching has led to a heartbreaking rise in orphaned rhino calves. Many of these young animals are left grieving after their mothers are killed, and in some cases, they are also seriously injured. Poachers often attack the calves to stop them from interfering while they remove the horn from the mother before anti-poaching patrols arrive.

To address this growing crisis, the Zululand Rhino Orphanage was established in 2017 by the Zululand Conservation Trust in partnership with Helping Rhinos. It remains the only dedicated rhino orphanage in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa—the world’s epicentre of rhino poaching.

The orphanage’s dedicated team provides round-the-clock care to every rescued calf, from the moment of rescue through rehabilitation and release. Even after returning to the wild, each rhino is closely monitored for at least a year to ensure they successfully adapt to their natural habitat and that they thrive as a truly wild rhino once again.

Mango’s Story

Mango came to the orphanage when he sadly lost his mother to a life-threatening injury. Alone, he was brought to our orphanage for the care and safety he needed.

Mango was just one year old when he was rescued, far too young to be on his own but old enough to not need a stay in the ICU. Following initial health checks he was released straight into one of the larger camps, and from the very beginning, his cheeky, determined personality shone through. Mango is a true little fighter, full of courage and spirit and he quickly began to show us just how strong he is.

He was introduced to Bheji, our only other black rhino calf – a female who is about one year older than Mango. At first, they kept a cautious distance, curious of each other but unsure how close to get. It has been heartwarming to watch them slowly bond, finding comfort and companionship in each other’s presence. Their friendship gives us real hope for the future of their species.

Anti-Poaching Patrols – The Black Mambas

Helping Rhinos is a proud partner of the Black Mambas, the world’s first all-female anti-poaching unit. This dedicated team of young African women patrols 20,000 hectares within South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park—home to the largest remaining rhino population on Earth, but also one of the regions most affected by poaching.

Driven by their passion for wildlife and rhino conservation, the Black Mambas not only protect animals on the ground but also serve as powerful voices for conservation within their communities. Their mission extends beyond frontline protection. By acting as role models, the Black Mambas aim to inspire positive change and demonstrate that the long-term benefits of wildlife conservation far outweigh the short-term gains of poaching. Through their courage and commitment, they are helping to secure a sustainable future for both people and rhinos alike.

Providing for the Community

The long-term success of any conservation effort depends on the active engagement and support of the local communities living alongside wildlife. Helping Rhinos is committed to working hand in hand with these communities, supporting initiatives that enhance livelihoods and foster a sense of shared responsibility for conservation.

One impactful example of this commitment is the construction of schools near Rhino Stronghold sites. These schools not only give local children access to quality education and nutritious daily meals, but also serve as vital gathering places for community leaders—strengthening the connection between education, well-being, and wildlife conservation.
