Warren Music Festival wows crowds By DAVID DIXON SPECIAL guests at last week’s Warren Chamber Music Festival, was an inspiring string quartet from all the way across “the ditch” in New Zealand. Now featuring four spectacular world-class concerts with the finest musicians from across the southern hemisphere; the Festival has grown to be a signature event for the region, attracting visitors from all across NSW and interstate. “The Festival celebrates the heritage, hard work, and resilience that define rural life through transformative performances that inspire, empower, and educate in iconic locations across the Warren Shire,” their website blurb states. Starring this year for a fi rst were the the New Zealand String Quartet (entitled Te Ropu Turu o Aotearoa in Maori), the country’s longest-serving professional chamber music ensemble. The group were established in 1987 to offer Kiwis access to world-class chamber music at home and, nearly four decades later, are still going strong. They are also touring Australia for the only time in 2025 as part of the Festival’s lineup. They also performed this year in front of New Zealand Deputy High Commissioner, Ken Ryan. Nevertire Memorial Hall on Friday hosted the world premiere of a work composed by Australia’s very-own Anne Cawrse. The SING Warren Community Choir also performed two works including “Scarborough Fair” for choir,

piano, and chamber orchestra as well as the region’s fi rst performance of Tchaikovsky’s powerful Serenade. Collie CWA Hall on Saturday also hosted an intimate concert with unforgettable acoustics, warmth, and atmos-

phere created by the Artistic Director, Frances Evans, who recalled her fi rst-ever performance on stage in this hall when she was just nine-years-old. Continued page 4
