Richard Ferdinand, Director of Club Operations at the Tryall Club in Montego Bay, recently achieved the remarkable milestone—three decades of dedicated service at one of the Caribbean’s most exclusive luxury villa resorts—by hosting a fundraising dinner for the Community Summer Camp he founded in 1996.
The celebration brought together industry colleagues, coworkers, and family members to honour Ferdinand’s enduring contribution to the Tryall Club’s continued excellence. Guests enjoyed an evening of fine dining at Ooshan Restaurant, exquisitely prepared and presented by the Rousseau Sisters and the Tryall Club’s culinary team, providing an ideal backdrop for reflection, camaraderie, and recognition.
Ferdinand arrived in Jamaica from Trinidad in 1986 and immediately fell in love with the island. From Tennis Director to Director of Club Operations, he transformed tennis, launched family programmes, gym and manuals, and led philanthropic initiatives. His collaborative leadership and legacy continues to enrich members, guests, staff, and the wider community. tryallclub.com
This past June, patrons at the Belmond hotels LA SAMANNA and CAP JULUCA in the Eastern Caribbean islands of St. Martin and Anguilla, experienced a delightful ‘Taste of Jamaica’ activation curated by Miss Jamaica Universe 1994, Angelie Martin-Spencer. Guests were treated to Jamaica’s finest Appleton Estate Rum, Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee, and 100% Jamaica grown cocoa by Likkle More chocolates. Guests sipped on signature Appleton Estate cocktails created by David Morrison, AE’s Deputy Master Blender, and dined on gourmet cuisine by celebrated Jamaican Chef Brian Lumley. belmond.com

In times when racism sought to diminish Black identity, clothing became a weapon of dignity, defiance, and pride.
T” “
his year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,”
salutes the Institute’s newest exhibition and draws inspiration from the groundbreaking book by author and scholar Monica L. Miller, who also served as Guest Curator. The exhibition examines Black dandyism — a tradition born from the intersection of African and European style — and explores how clothing has been used as both a form of self-expression and a means of resistance.
Miller’s research positions dandyism not merely as fashion, but as a cultural statement — one that has endured for centuries. In times when racism sought to diminish Black identity, clothing became a weapon of dignity, defiance, and pride. From the 18th century to today, the “Superfine” garments tell stories of meticulous tailoring, creativity, and the refusal to be defined by oppressive norms.
The exhibition unfolds in 12 evocative sections, each anchored by a single-word concept central to dandyism: Ownership, Presence, Distinction, Disguise, Freedom, Champion, Respectability, Jook, Heritage, Beauty, Cool, Cosmopolitanism.
Among the featured contemporary designers is Foday Dumbuya whose signature pieces were chosen for their alignment with the exhibit’s exploration of cultural identity, dandyism, and sartorial expression. Originally from Freetown, Sierra Leone, he grew up between Cyprus and London. In 2023, Dumbuya was honoured with the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design in a ceremony attended by David Beckham and former British Vogue Editor-In-Chief Edward Enninful.
Edvin Thompson is the visionary Jamaican American designer behind the brand Theophilio which reflect Thompson’s upbringing in Kingston, Jamaica, and his journey as an immigrant in the United States. His collections often feature bold colours, rich textures, and sustainably sourced fabrics, capturing the energy of Jamaican dancehall culture while paying homage to New York’s dynamic urban landscape.
Design house Off-White explores the evolution of tailoring within Black communities, emphasising its role in cultural identity, self-expression, and empowerment. Off-White contributed through a collaboration with designer Ib Kamara whose work in the exhibition highlighted the cultural and historical significance of Black style and dandyism over three centuries.
Andrew M. Ramroop OBE — Trinidad-born master tailor, first Black owner on Savile Row, founder of Savile Row Academy, Creative Director of Maurice Sedwell. His exceptional bespoke tailoring is represented in the exhibition — his red silk-patterned tuxedo for Maurice Sedwell is featured among the displayed pieces. The show aligns with his personal ethos of using sartorial style to assert identity, elegance, and self-expression — a principle central to Black dandyism.

modernised classics that symbolise personal and cultural pride. His signature approach to tailored menswear blends artistic flair and confidence.
Ivy Ralph, mother to stage and television actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, is also featured in the exhibition. A pioneering Jamaican fashion designer, Ivy Ralph’s iconic Kareeba suit — a decolonised, breathable alternative to traditional Western menswear — celebrates contributions to both fashion and cultural heritage.
Another striking notable addition to the exhibit is Frederick Douglass. In the “Superfine” exhibit, his tailcoat, monogrammed shirt, and vest were displayed alongside accessories like his top hat, sunglasses, and pocket watch. The pocket watch — his first and most treasured — held deep significance. To Douglass, it was more than a timepiece; it symbolised his status as a free man, in control of his own time. In an era when Black people were often depicted in demeaning ways, Douglass’ refined, elegant
appearance was as deliberate and powerful as his words.
Beyond its visual splendour, Superfine stirred deep emotions — visitors expressed an overwhelming sense of pride, awe, and connection to history. The exhibition also carried an unspoken absence — that of the late André Leon Talley, a towering figure in fashion and culture. Tributes to him appeared throughout, honouring his lifelong advocacy for elegance, individuality, and Black excellence.
For those who could not attend in person, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style will be available to stream in 2026 — offering the world a chance to witness this landmark celebration of history, style, and selfhood. / P themet.com

Whether wealth is accumulated over time or inherited in large or small amounts, determining the optimal timing on when to transfer it to the next generation is a key decision in maintaining and growing family assets while managing the impact of liabilities.
By Denora Marshall-McPhee
As Wealth Management professionals, we have seen our clients wrestle with this topic, carefully weighing their options to make the best decision for their families. While some successfully navigate this process, others encounter challenges when key considerations are misunderstood or overlooked entirely. Intricate family scenarios add further complexity to the planning needs and subsequent transfer of wealth.
Decisions may be impacted by the fear of acting or by the fear of taking the wrong action or deciding not to act, which can all become obstacles. Here we will look at a strategic approach to transferring wealth to your next generation. These decisions typically involve the delicate balance of supporting family members, making decisions on who is most suitable to manage assets (e.g. financial assets, the family business, or property) and maintaining control over the wealth. The timing of wealth transfer depends on various factors, including the beneficiaries’ financial maturity, tax implications, and the Grantor’s personal goals.
Important Notice: This article is for informational purposes, and you should consult your financial advisor or relevant professionals before making any decisions regarding your wealth transfer, keeping in mind the specifics of your financial situation and applicable laws in your country of residence. This is not to be construed as mass advertising or as a solicitation to buy or sell any product or service. We recommend you seek independent tax and legal advice before making any financial decision. Transferring wealth during your lifetime may offer several advantages ” “
Wealth transfer refers to the process of passing assets from one generation to another in a legal and equitable manner. This may involve making direct gifts, providing inheritances through wills, or establishing trusts that take effect either during your lifetime (inter vivos) or after passing (testamentary). Effective wealth transfer requires a well-planned strategy, considering your objectives (e.g. legacy building), the beneficiaries’ needs (such as incapacitated family members or small children), and relevant local laws and regulations of the determined financial structure that may outline requirements or impose restrictions on asset transfers.
Transferring wealth during your lifetime may offer several advantages. It allows you to determine the impact of the gift on your family members prior to making further wealth transfers. It also provides you the opportunity to guide and mentor your family members in managing these gifted assets. However, it is important to recognise that once the gift is granted, it is irrevocable. Furthermore, inter vivos gifts can sometimes yield tax benefits, as they may be subject to more favourable tax treatment. Potentially, these gifts can help reduce your estate obligations by lowering estate taxes and probate fees.
When to transfer wealth is personal and depends on each family’s circumstances. Some
of the circumstances to consider include:
• Capacity of the Grantor: If the Grantor is nearing retirement or exhibiting signs of incapacity, transferring wealth can help ensure that beneficiaries are provided for, potentially reducing taxes and avoiding incapacitation from impacting a clear transfer process. However, if the financial security is uncertain, it may be prudent to delay transfer until their financial situation is more stable.
• Beneficiaries’ financial maturity: If the beneficiaries are financially responsible and have a proven track record of managing their finances, it may be suitable to transfer wealth earlier. However, if they are younger or lack experience in financial management, it may be wise to delay transfer until they gain more maturity and financial acumen.
• Business succession: For family businesses, transferring ownership to the next generation can be a strategic move, allowing for a smooth transition and continuity. Consideration needs to be made to determine interest, suitability and fit to the forward movement of the company. A lack of alignment in these areas can lead to a negative impact to the overall performance and sustainability of the business. Independent management or the sale of the business can also be suitable options depending on the
careful research and assessments made.
Over 65 years, Scotiatrust™ has familieshelpedand individuals plan for the andpreservation transfer of their wealth.

• Complexity of the assets to be transferred: For complex assets, such as businesses, private equities, etc., delayed transfer might be necessary to ensure that the proper advice can be taken, and that management and administration can be maintained.
Several strategies can be employed for an effective wealth transfer, however, there are some distinct benefits of establishing a trust, including:
1 Avoidance of probate: A trust can save the Grantor time in the ultimate transfer of assets with a lower wait time compared to probate. As well, a trust can reduce legal costs and maintain privacy, which are benefits not achieved with creating a will.
2. Privacy: Trusts are private arrangements and are not subject to public d isclosure unlike a will which will be publicly probated.
3. Asset Protection: Trusts provide the Grantor with protection against unscrupulous creditors and various legal challenges.
4 Control over Distributions: A trust can provide the Grantor with a level of control during their lifetime as well as providing recommendations for the trustee to consider after their passing, which cannot be achieved with an outright gift.
5 Tax Planning: A properly established trust structure can optimise the tax benefits available to a Grantor, while potentially avoiding estate, transfer and gift tax depending on the country of residence of the Grantor.
6 Continuity and Flexibility: A trust can be amended during the lifetime of the Grantor as circumstances change. A trust can also continue for several generations should the Grantor wish.
7. Professional estate planning and management of assets: Corporate trustees provide the right services to meet estate planning and asset management needs.
8. Support for special needs: A trust can be set up for family members that are most vulnerable and for coverage of special asset types and charitable giving.
Tosafeguard an effective wealth transfer process, there are many best practices to consider. For example, developing a comprehensive plan which establishes a clear outline of your objectives and your family/beneficiaries’ needs, while considering the laws and regulations that apply to your plan. Additionally, regularly reviewing and updating your wealth transfer plan is pivotal to ensure it continues to reflect the circumstances of the Grantor and beneficiaries’ needs. Most importantly, you must consult with financial and estate advisors, tax professionals, and attorneys to ensure the wealth transfer plan is effective and tax efficient. It is important to note that tax implications play a significant role in wealth transfer, and there are many different types of taxes to consider. Depending on the country, the related tax laws can change often.
In conclusion, transferring wealth to the next generation requires careful consideration and strategic planning. By clearly understanding the benefits and challenges, you can make informed decisions that align with your objectives, while supporting a smooth transition to family members. The process involves developing a comprehensive plan, communicating with beneficiaries, monitoring and adjusting the plan, and seeking professional advice. By following these best practices, Grantors can ensure a smooth transition of their wealth, providing for their loved ones and leaving a lasting legacy.

Buckingham Palace has always been a high point of my visits to London, accessible to the public for tours only in the summer months of July through September. It is with a sense of walking through history that I enter this historic home, for home it has been to so many.
By LAURA TANNA
King Charles III was actually born here, and it remains the official London residence of His Majesty The King. Otherwise, only on selected dates are some small-group guided tours allowed so plan ahead.
2025 was special because for the first time the public could enter the 1844 Room, decorated for the State Visit of Nicolas 1, Tsar of Russia, which is the room in which The Privy Council meets. Also special were the New State Portraits of King Charles III and Queen Camilla on view in the splendid red and gold Throne Room where the Estate Chairs were created in 1953 for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, used again for King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s coronation ceremony. One can’t help but sense regal power in the presence of these thrones.
TThe State Rooms are those in which the Royals meet and entertain guests on official, ceremonial and State occasions. The largest of these is the huge ballroom which often opens onto long tables, fully laid out with beautiful dinner settings as though we were invited to enjoy a State Dinner.
I love The Grand Staircase, a dual entrance designed by John Nash over which the full-length portraits of Queen Victoria’s family members watch as we ascend to greater glory. Originally a grand home in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham, King George III bought it for his wife Queen Charlotte in 1761, and it became known as The

Queen’s House. She obtained it by an Act of Parliament in 1775 in exchange for the rights to the Old Somerset House. Later King George IV transformed the Queen’s House into a palace through the magic of architect John Nash with his theatrical background, but it was after Queen Victoria married Prince Albert that it became the official Royal residence in 1837. Prince Albert turned to architect Edward Blore who added the East Front facing the Mall with the famous balcony on which the Royal family appears to the public.
The White Drawing Room is often considered the most elegant State Room, but The Green Room is the first State Room and is where the King holds diplomatic receptions for ambassadors and the Commonwealth of Nations. The Picture Gallery, some 47 metres long, allows one to view some of the monarch’s painting collection. We may not remember that in World War II Buckingham Palace was bombed nine times and throughout King George VI and Princess Elizabeth stayed in residence, which was a huge encouragement to the general population during those frightening times. In fact, the chapel was destroyed by a bomb and rebuilt as the King’s Gallery, opening to the public in 1962 for exhibitions from the Royal Collection. Those planning to tour Buckingham Palace in 2026 will have the opportunity to view the exhibition Queen Elizabeth II: Her life in Style in the King’s Gallery where about 200 items, half of them never before displayed, will illustrate
her evolving sense of fashion over the years, and Her use of them diplomatically, this in celebration of what would have been Her 100th birthday.
Speaking of birthdays, on 18 July 2025, the Royal Mint issued a silver pound coin to mark Princess Anne’s 75th birthday on 15 August 2025. As usual, “the hardest working Royal” wanted no fanfare over the occasion.
Still walking through history, not far from Buckingham Palace, Singapore’s famous Raffles Hotel opened Raffles London in the OWO, that’s The Old War Office in Whitehall where Sir Winston Churchill made history as he worked with the Allies to end WWII. First opened in 1906 where even Bond movies were later occasionally filmed, a six-year renovation of the interior of this Edwardian Baroque building created a luxury hotel in 2023 with nine restaurants and three bars. We chose the Milanese Paper Moon restaurant and were thrilled driving into the grand entrance of the historic courtyard, only to find Paper Moon’s entrance to the right across the courtyard from the hotel lobby, so we missed that bit of glamour.
Eager to embrace a more modern London?
Try dining at Il Gattopardo aka The Wild Cat Italian restaurant (actually Sardinian) which opened with a La Dolce Vita ambiance last year in Mayfair, 27 Albemarle St, W1S 4HZ, next to a private members’ club. A most amazing, toasted veal cutlet hammered so thin it is served on a large wooden board was my choice and when I couldn’t eat it all, they presented me with the
rest inside a small box in an elegant gift bag. My dining partner immediately arranged to hold his office Christmas party there this year! For Indian cuisine there is none better than Chutney Mary in London, founded in 1990, originally located on Kings Road, Chelsea where my husband and I dined with Joanna and Evan Jones to celebrate the publication of his novel Stonehaven, based on his Jamaican heritage. Chutney Mary relocated to its elegant 73 St James Street home, not far from Buckingham Palace, in 2015 and is named repeatedly for its excellence in preparing cuisine from a variety of Indian regions.
For a final farewell to London, we returned to the always spectacular Hutong Chinese restaurant on the 33rd floor of The Shard, 31 St. Thomas Street, SE1 9RY, where the superb cuisine is only outdone by incredible vistas of London overlooking the Thames to sweeping skylines even from washroom windows. Of course, an entry wall of red lanterns sets the mood, as does pulsating music and open views of the level below. | P

Tortuga Bay Puntacana, Dominican Republic’s first AAA Five Diamond awarded hotel and member of the Leading Hotels of the World
On the most secluded shoreline of white sand beach at the Puntacana Resort are a handful of villas, each with signature Oscar de la Renta decor renowned for his sophisticated elegance and timeless beauty, that imbues this glamorous property with an aura of opulence, sophistication, and exclusivity.
Welcome to Tortuga Bay Puntacana, Dominican Republic’s first AAA Five Diamond awarded hotel and member of the Leading Hotels of the World. Landing at Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) we were escorted to the resort’s VIP Airport Arrivals Lounge for passport processing. While seated on a cushion-filled sofa, light refreshments were served, and in short order our luggage was brought to us, and a hostess escorted us to the waiting car. A 15-minute drive away we entered the gates of the manicured Puntacana Resort — filled with world class amenities — passing villa residential enclaves, golf courses, equestrian field, spa, beach clubs, racquet ball courts, marina, a Sustainability Centre, and more. Arriving at Tortuga Bay Puntacana’s reception we were welcomed by team members with impeccable service in a serene atmosphere filled with art and objects d’beauty.
The warmest of Dominican welcomes
Our plantation styled villa was sumptuously appointed, and had a soothing palette of Caribbean pastel colours, colonial styled wicker furnishings, dark mahogany woods, Egyptian cotton bed sheets, large marble bathroom with soak tub, and a beach-facing terrace. Taking it all in, my wife and I were enveloped in a sense of well-being and the Joie de vivre.
Heading to an early lunch at Tortuga Bay Puntacana’s AAA Four Diamond Award-winning Bamboo Restaurant, staff were in the final stages of prepping the dining room where we saw them hand ironing crisp white table linens and napkins, while laying out silverware and stemware for an elevated dining experience. With a menu celebrating Mediterranean and Dominican cuisine, the restaurant offers a delectable fusion of dishes in a refined and intimate setting designed by Oscar de la Renta. Opening my meal with a zesty gazpacho, then grilled catch of the day, and closing with Bizcocho Dominicano. It was a tasty start to my memorable stay at this acclaimed hotel in Punta Cana for its highly personalised and attentive service.
We were fêted at a Dominican-styled ‘Asado’, a social event that was a sensory feast ” “
An afternoon siesta in hammocks under the shade of coconut trees saw us dozing on and off as we watched children building sandcastles on the beach, royal terns skimming the shoreline, and hearing the lullaby of lapping waves as the emerald sea beckoned to us to swim in the calm waters. With only 13 villas in this exclusive enclave that is Tortuga Bay Puntacana, guests were few, and in short order we were on a first name basis as if members of an extended family.
Keeping a slow pace on our first day we had a chef-created dinner on the terrace of our villa and retired for the evening in our plush king size bed.
The following morning we headed to the Oscar de la Renta Tennis Centre offering a range of racquet sports that include paddle and pickleball. We chose a pickleball coaching session for its growing popularity with friends back home, and the LUX Tennis team of professional’s hand held us through an hour-long technique building and training matches. So happy we were with our performance we treated ourselves to matching paddles in the Centre’s pro shop.
Our pickleball rally gave us a hearty appetite and we headed over to The Grill Caribbean-Mediterranean restaurant at Puntacana Resort’s La Cana Golf & Beach Club offering arresting views of the sea and the golf course, and a few steps from the Spa Puntacana Resort. At The Grill we enjoyed tangy caesar salads with sides of shrimp and chicken, while taking in the families enjoying water sports in the Olympic size pool fronting the Clubhouse — a popular social hang-out for villa residents on this 15,000 acre property.
Interested to know more about the residential offerings at the Puntacana Resort, after lunch we met with a member of the real estate team who told us eight different locations were on offer; some beach fronting, others fringing golf courses, and

developments by the marina. With our interest piqued, we exchanged contact details and took with us a brochure with a map of the resort’s development Master Plan to discuss with family back home. We then headed to The Spa Puntacana Resort for an afternoon of wellness treatments.
We started with the meditative sounds of crystal bowls played by a Bhutanese trained relaxation expert who incorporates a range of Himalayan therapies to induce mental, physical, and emotional balance. Now totally relaxed we had a doubles Puntacana healing massage using Dominican coconut oil infused with local herbs, and were only able to return to reality with a cold ice bucket shower!
We closed our day in the Tortuga Bay Puntacana Lounge, located poolside next to the Bamboo Restaurant, with a selection of savoury tapas, empanadas, croquettes, olives, and cheeses, paired with a superb bottle of Palo Cortado sherry.
The next morning we headed to the Corales Golf Course, one of two on the Puntacana Resort that holds the distinction of being host to the first PGA Tour event held in the Dominican Republic in 2018, with its 18-hole course offering miles of scenic natural cliffs and majestic coralina quarries. Designed by Tom Fazio, the stunning greens have 6 ocean front holes and a signature “Devil’s Elbow” finishing trio that wrap around a breathtaking Caribbean cove, requiring our precision and nerve to navigate this picturesque but challenging design.
We continued our sporting day by taking up an invitation from friends who had driven over from the capital Santo Domingo, to join them watching polo matches. There we were fêted at a Dominican-styled ‘Asado’, a social event that was a sensory feast filled with merengue music, rum, Don Queco cigars, fashion, vintage cars, and hearty servings of marinated grilled smoky
meats. Here we experienced the true warmth of Dominican hospitality, meeting and making new friends in a convivial atmosphere.
On our last day we got up early to join a tour to learn about Fundacion Puntacana and their role as custodians of the region’s natural beauty, with its conservation and community empowerment programmes. We learnt about the preservation of local flora and fauna that includes the critically endangered Ridgway Hawk, the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Reserve, and the work of the Oscar de la Renta Pediatric Centre. The highlight of the tour was a plunge in a crystal clear lagoon deep in a forested area of the Reserve. There we cooled off from the heat of the day while marvelling at nature’s abundance around us, from colourful butterflies stretching their wings among the fallen leaves lining the pathways, to songbirds chirping away in the trees tops above. Slipping away from my wife to place a call to Tortuga Bay Puntacana’s

concierge, I arranged for a special afternoon and evening out for our anniversary. They arranged a private shopping experience for her at the on-property Silvia Tcherassi boutique, renowned for its collections of sophisticated resort-style fashion for ladies with a “Latin flair”. Dinner that evening was at the Three Diamond Award-winning La Yola Restaurant modelled after a native fisherman’s boat with elegant finishes, and is perched above the Puntacana Resort Marina, with magnificent views of the sparkling turquoise sea. Its culinary programme is led by celebrated Chef Cristian Matías Báez, and the restaurant is renowned for its gastronomic seafood creations. By candlelight we dined on Caribbean-Style Eggplant Parmesan as a starter, with the main—baked fish stuffed with peas in a fragrant coconut sauce, closing with artisanal ice creams made from local guava and passionfruit. As I raised my flute of Rosé Champagne in a toast to my life partner, together we reaffirmed our enduring commitment to a mutual duty of care, marked by an unwavering support for each other’s aspirations, and promised ourselves many more holidays in the Puntacana lifestyle! | P
Many of us have a passion for vintage collectables. From that sports car which captured our hearts as a teenager, to the limited edition watches that grow in value, to fine art adorning the walls or our Caribbean villa.
“Collecting and restoring these legendary gems of the nautical world”
In the world of yachting enthusiasts this passion comes alive with HUISFIT by Royal Huisman shipbuilders who have been dedicating craftsmen and engineers to breathe new life into ageing classics and to rebuild historical yachts.
ATLANTIDE, a 122 feet yacht built by the British shipyard Philip & Sons, was first launched in 1930 under the name ‘Caleta’, and by her design is classified as a motorsailer, a type of yacht merging the characteristics of motor yachts and sailboats. In recognition for valiant service in World War II — in particular action at Dunkirk in 1940 — she is bestowed with the honour to fly the distinguished St. George’s Cross.
“What I like is the historic quality of this boat; nothing is plastic. I’m a classic boat snob. I like the old wood look; big modern boats do nothing for me.” — ATLANTIDE owner Jim Clark.
was “incredibly stable” on its passage from Palm Beach to the Caribbean. ” “
fter changing owners hands a number of times over the years, she was now in need of refurbishment to bring her back to her glory days. In 2021 her new owners, the Clarks — longtime customers of Royal Huisman, commissioned the shipyard’s dedicated HUISFIT division to do a full-scale rebuild. Their mandate was to maintain as much of its outward original classical design as possible, while transforming the original Art Deco period interiors into a modern decor with intimate personal spaces for après regatta relaxation. During ATLANTIDE’s two-year rebuild, every attention was paid to the smallest of details to realise the Clarks’ dream, with the highest quality materials used and master craftsmanship delivered by HUISFIT. Its entire deckhouse was lifted off in one piece for a hand finished restoration and decorative teak mouldings were added to embellish the yacht’s bright-finished exterior. Existing sixty-year old winches were refurbished, along with ninety-five percent of the exterior original bronze fittings, which were beautifully restored. And, for the highest level of aesthetics, the design firm deVosdeVries was called in to transform the interiors into elegant understated spaces exuding subtle modern luxury.
To improve the manoeuvrability and reduce turbulence, HUISFIT increased the rudder size by about 20 percent and extended it to fill a small gap below the keel area to help the vessel track better. These enhancements resulted in Captain Luckhurst commenting in February 2024, that ATLANTIDE was “incredibly stable” on its passage from Palm Beach to the Caribbean.
At the heart of her DNA the 8-cylinder, 255hp Gardner engines were in near perfect condition, and sent to the United Kingdom for servicing, making them fit to run for another 50 years.
New additions include air conditioning, powered winches to fibre optic cables systems; monitoring, navigation and communications gear along with exterior LED lighting. A brand new rig and sails, all built to the original plan, takes her up to speeds of seven knots, preparing her for another 90+ years of service.
TThis page (L-R): ATLANTIDE after HUISFIT rebuild, photos ©Cory Silken; Opposite page (T-B): ATLANTIDE after HUISFIT rebuild, photos ©Cory Silken.
oday ATLANTIDE spends most of her days moored at Martha’s Vineyard with her attentive handlers. As the glamorous ‘Lady in Waiting’ tender to the Clark’s ‘Hanuman’ Class J superyacht — racing the St. Barths Bucket, ATLANTIDE rekindles the golden age of yachting filled with prestigious regattas at sailing clubs across the Americas. Although rebuilds by HUISFIT are never a “typical refit”, the scope of such a project is widely regarded as a newbuild, both by those involved and outside observers. As the ultimate goal is to create a unique and personalised experience for owners, these magnificently restored yachts will not become forgotten to the annals of time: Each one will remain a living sailing legend. The
passion of yachting aficionados to return to the timeless elegance and sophistication of a bygone era enjoyed with close friends sailing on classical yachts, has breathed a renewed interest in collecting and restoring these legendary gems of the nautical world that is best captured in the endearing words of ATLANTIDE owner Jim Clark:
“What I like is the historic quality of this boat; nothing is plastic. I’m a classic boat snob. I like the old wood look; big modern boats do nothing for me.” | P
My holiday came alive with a blockbuster weekend of curated line ups of Wellness, Culture, Sport, and Music at Princess Hotels & Resorts
Jamaica — a celebration of Island Lifestyles at its best. With a high touch selection of events, performances, dance, and wellness programmes, we awakened our senses to the warm embrace of Caribbean sunshine, gently lapping waves, and personalised attention delivered by Princess’ butlers and culinary team. Booking the Euphoria Weekend Diamond Package, the next few days would see us basking in a spacious Overwater Villa with infinity pool, offering 24/7 in-room service, lounging in private beach cabanas, photo sessions with DJs, and photo ops with the reigning Miss Universe Jamaica winner, along with hydrotherapy relaxation sessions at the Spa.
From the ENTERTAINMENT EDITOR’S DESK
We arrived at the adults-only Princess Senses
The Mangrove to a fanfare VIP check-in with signature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, gift bags of branded luxe memorabilia, and a mini Swedish massage nurturing our bodies and calming our minds.
Enjoying breathtaking views of the sunset from the balcony of our Overwater Villa, we lost track of time in this calming tropical setting, as an evening of elegance awaited. Changing into cocktail attire, we headed to the Illusion Nightclub Terrace to attend Euphoria’s Welcome Reception where we met Jamaica’s reigning
Miss Universe. Bubblies flowed complemented by zesty finger foods, as a live flautist set the tone for the start of an evening of glitter, glitz, and glam under the stars. As more guests joined in on the evening’s ‘gathering of the glamorous’, the tempo increased to the pulsing beats of ZJ Nova, who had us all dancing the night away to eclectic genres of dancehall, trap, and hip hop.
Sleeping in late the next morning, our butler had a treat in store for us with
a floating breakfast served in our Overwater Villa’s private infinity pool. We slipped into our swimsuits and basked in the morning sunshine while enjoying a sumptuous breakfast of Jamaica’s signature dish, ackee and codfish. In the afternoon we headed to the spa for a couples massage with JACANA CBD cannabis-infused extract oils sourced from the hills in the nearby parish of St Ann. Their numerous treatments are renowned for inducing a sense of well-being by easing muscle aches, reducing inflammation, and melting your stress away while leaving your skin glowing.
Strolling back to our villa, we saw a bevy of ladies in the checkin area who were competing in this year’s Miss Universe beauty pageant with flutes of champagne in hand, receiving toasts from the hotel’s management team, as they welcomed them to Euphoria Weekend’s activities. We took a pause on one of the comfy sofas in the reception area to take in a bit of ‘beautiful people watching’ as the ladies’ broad smiles accompanied
clinks of glasses, a dancing-singing troupe serenading them, imbuing a sense of goodwill and camaraderie on their journey for the crown.
A special invitation was extended to us to join the reigning Miss Universe and this year’s entrants on the private ‘Dream Island’ on the Resort. The venue was transformed into a glowing landscape of fire dancers, live music spun by international DJs MOS and KISS, with a buffet of Jamaican favourite foods on offer, and an open bar flowing with premium alcoholic beverages. Dressed in island colours of red, green, and gold we met and dined with the contestants, their families, friends, and sponsors who all came to cheer them on. Well-fed and filled with libations, the evening turned into a bohemian rhapsody as a large bonfire was lit and with shoes off, we danced the night away in sheer abandon.
We started our day summersaulting off the deck of our villa into the clear aquamarine sea below; this
would be a day filled with outdoor activities. Goggles and snorkel on, we swam towards a school of colourful parrot fish who darted away in a playful swirl, then explored the marine life around our villa by kayak — the wide open bay in front and the mangroves in a lagoon behind, filled with crustaceans and seabirds waiting for their catch of the day. Coming up for breaks on the villa deck, we nibbled on plates of finger foods, fruits, ice-cold beers and beverages our butler left for us to keep us fuelled in between plunges. In the afternoon we played games of beach volleyball, cricket, and threw frisbees, making friends along the way as we competed in friendly matches.
As the sun dipped with a golden hue into the Caribbean Sea, we took our cue to get ready for an evening of dazzling fashion, where Miss Universe contestants would be officially presented in heels and gowns to a VIP audience of ‘fashionistas’ outfitted in the latest designer wear. Arriving to the soothing rhythms of a live jazz band, the runway was set over the Aqua pool illuminated in a
turquoise blue evoking a feeling of openness and serenity for this most memorable of soirées.
Later that evening the celebration shifted tone with a party at the hotel’s sensuous O’Club beachthemed ‘A Touch of Purple’, where legendary DJ Spinderella and DJ KISS pelted out the latest hip-hop tunes to exuberant guests dancing with toes in the sand and rounds of premium alcohol in hand.
We woke the next day to a soulful retreat starting with the stillness of yoga poses while embracing our inner peace, then a toning workout with weights in the gym. In the afternoon we immersed ourselves into the hydrotherapy swimming pool with its many fountains, massage jets, and bubbling underwater air vents, all perfect for a therapeutic hydrotherapy session.
That evening our butler would curate for us a gastronomic in-villa dining experience. Starting with chilled gazpacho soup and garden salad, then on to a delectable, pan-
seared sea bass fillet with crispy skin, nestled on a vibrant saffron risotto and a lemon-infused beurre blanc sauce. It was perfectly paired with a 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru, for its elegant minerality and notes of citrus and white flowers. Closing, we had a white chocolate dome infused with a passion fruit centre and candied almonds.
The night was young and there was excitement in the air as we joined the Grand Finale of Miss Universe contestants parading in swimwear by the Euphoria pool, as the audience whispered amongst themselves their top picks for the crowning to take place in a few weeks time. As the curtain came down guests lined up to take pictures with the beauties. Fireworks illuminated the sky in a kaleidoscope of colours and shapes, and DJs Mad Linx, MOS, and KISS capped the night with an uplifting mix of pulsating island beats and global tunes, ending this memorable weekend celebrating culture, style, wellness, and beauty. | P

Heritage and tradition: Maranello is renowned for its automotive tradition, particularly as the home of Ferrari.
By Prissilla Zamboni Tejada
Q: How do you think the city’s history influences its identity today, and what measures are in place to preserve this tradition?
A: The City of Maranello and the Ferrari company have developed and grown over the years, each following its own unique path. But these two paths have intertwined over time, leading the public and private spheres to collaborate in areas where the local community can benefit in various ways: economically, socially, employment-wise, environmentally, productively, and in tourism. This has also happened, and continues to happen, in the relationships between the municipal administration itself and all the businesses in the area, characterised by an automotive sector that encompasses multiple parts of the industry’s supply chain within a few square kilometres.
TThe bond that has been created between the City and Ferrari, however, has strengthened over the decades thanks to the great passion for motors that unites us, obviously stimulated in our community by the extraordinary and unique figure of Enzo Ferrari, who evidently found in Maranello the ideal conditions to build his dream, which later became a legend.
All this has given Maranello a very distinct, unique, and recognisable identity, even beyond our borders. An identity that still positions it at the beating heart of the Emilian Motor Country, renowned throughout the world. This is something that, on the one hand, makes us proud, but on the other, also entails a great responsibility.
This is why we strive every day to preserve and enhance this immense cultural heritage through constant and meticulous planning, one of whose strengths is the Ferrari Museum. This includes training, the organisation of motoring events, visitor reception, and the sharing of local marketing strategies at all institutional levels. This will make Maranello increasingly hospitable, attractive, and enjoyable to live in, both for residents and tourists.
Q: Tourism and community: With the Ferrari Museum attracting visitors from around the world, how does the city balance tourist influx with the needs and lifestyle of residents?
A: The balance between these two needs is at the very core of our city governance. The Ferrari Museum sells nearly 600,000 tickets a year—as of 2024—and Maranello has just over 17,000 residents and resources comparable to this size.
During the Red Night, in recent years, visitors have also been able to walk down the main avenue of the Ferrari factory: a thrill for many enthusiasts
” “
So ours is certainly no easy task, and achieving our goal requires an awareness of the fact that these balances change over time, evolve, and are influenced by various factors.
Promoting a series of events, for example, means engaging the entire commercial fabric of an area, and that’s necessary, but it’s also important to consider the impact of these initiatives on residents, as overindulgence can lead to inconvenience.
The search for balance therefore requires constant attention to detail; it represents a daily challenge that leads you to embrace dynamism, resourcefulness, and innovation as your core principles. Therefore, as administrators, our gaze is always forward-looking, attempting to manage change without being subjected to it. To achieve this, you need the right mix of healthy ambition and humility, because to do your best, you must start from the understanding that there is always room for improvement.
What exciting projects or developments are planned for Maranello in the coming years, particularly to enhance the visitor experience while preserving the city’s charm?
A: Remaining in the tourism sector, in addition to investing increasingly in the city’s upkeep, Maranello is increasingly engaged in various projects to promote the area, within institutional networks, both local, such as the “Maranello +” platform, and national, such as the ANCI “Città dei Motori” association.
The main objectives, in terms of hospitality, are essentially two: to increase the length of visitor stay in our area— also by expanding the offerings to include areas such as food and
wine, history, and the outdoors— and to make each experience increasingly exciting, focusing on emotional engagement, so that visitors are also protagonists and not just spectators. And synergies with other organisations are essential for sharing increasingly effective reception strategies, for example by organising themed events or accessing high-visibility promotional ‘showcases’.
Q: Sustainability initiatives:
As a city renowned for its high-performance vehicles, what measures is Maranello adopting for sustainability and eco-friendly practices, both in the automotive sector and within the community?
A: The production decisions of companies are obviously the sole responsibility of the private sector. As a public administration, we are committed to monitoring every situation and ensuring compliance with regulations. However, over the years, especially through the urban planning tools at our disposal, we have always favoured, within our sphere of expertise, the regeneration of existing buildings, energy efficiency improvements, and, in the case of new constructions, the use of materials and systems with high environmental sustainability standards. Along these same lines, we complement these initiatives with a series of community projects aimed at reducing car use and encouraging healthy lifestyles, always with initiatives promoting sustainable mobility and environmental education for citizens, starting in schools.
For example, in addition to investing heavily in sports, we encourage cycling on various fronts: in recent years, we have expanded our cycle path network by creating new cycle/pedestri-
an paths, improving connections between different areas of Maranello.
We have also developed the ‘Bike to Work’ project in our area, with excellent results. This has allowed us to sign agreements w ith several local companies: employees of these companies are now encouraged to cycle to work with a monthly bonus calculated based on the kilometres travelled.
Q: Cultural events: Are there any upcoming cultural events or festivals in Maranello that, in your opinion, highlight the city’s unique spirit and its connection to the automotive industry?
A: Throughout the year, we host and organise dozens of motorsport-themed events: rallies, exhibitions, shows, talk shows, conferences, demonstrations... But our flagship event is undoubtedly the Notte Rossa (Red Night); held on a Saturday in mid-June, it attracts thousands of people every year. On that day, Maranello becomes an open-air museum, with dozens of Ferraris on display in the city’s streets and squares, where motorsport-themed shows, stands, initiatives, and exhibitions alternate, culminating in the final show that brings the party to a close late at night. The event celebrates our roots, our passion for motorsports, and the special bond that has developed over time between the city and the legend of the Prancing Horse.
During the Red Night, in recent years, visitors have also been able to walk down the main avenue of the Ferrari factory: a thrill for many enthusiasts, and one that has been exceptionally well received.
As mentioned, many other motoring-related events are taking place alongside the Red Night. For example, in September, the third edition of the Italian Motor Week will take place: an event shared with all the Motor Cities of Italy, the municipalities belonging to the ANCI network of the same name, which will feature a week-long series of motoring initiatives of all kinds throughout our region. This year, too, in May, Maranello was part of the Motor Valley Fest, an event now well-known amongst enthusiasts and packed with events.
Q: Can you give us a comprehensive overview of Maranello’s past, present,
and future, while highlighting the city’s unique aspects, not only in its automotive heritage but also in other areas?
A: The postwar period represented a very particular socioeconomic turning point for Maranello. The establishment of the Ferrari factory in a predominantly agricultural area transformed the town in just a few years, during which many local farmers became the most skilled mechanics in the world.
The company’s connection to the region, as well as the resulting development of an increasingly vast and complex production chain, led to major changes in the Maranello community.
Among these, the arrival of so many workers from all over Italy and beyond forced the city to face significant challenges in terms of reception, urban development, and the reorganisation of citizen
services. The goal was to avoid slipping into the status of a “dormitory town,” but to create a place and a community where people could live well and where they would want to settle long-term, surrounded by an attractive environment from every perspective.
I n those decades, Maranello demonstrated strong social cohesion and a remarkable capacity for integration, the result of a daily collaboration between institutions, volunteer associations, businesses, and citizens that remains vibrant and effective today. Currently, the city has already charted the course for its future and identified its goals: To continue improving the quality of life for its residents. Family services, greenery, cultural offerings, urban decor, the crucial issue of education, and the concept of active citizenship remain our priorities. | P

This September the world said goodbye to fashion icon Giorgio Armani, a legend in Milan and Hollywood. But here, where the sun kisses the sea, our farewell is more personal. We’re not just remembering a fashion titan; we’re saying goodbye to a dear friend of the islands, a man who found his truest self not under the bright lights of the runway, but in the gentle rhythm of the Caribbean.
It’s a story most never knew, a quiet sanctuary — Armani held close to his heart. While he was building a global empire, he was also building a personal escape, one not of flashy opulence but of serene peace. He found it right here in Antigua, where in 2006, he bought not one, but two villas named Villa Flower and Villa Serena. For him, they were a world away from the demanding “jet set lifestyle,” a place to simply layback. | P
