For decades, Thomas J. Henry has been known as a powerhouse in the courtroom—one of the most successful personal-injury attorneys in America and a symbol of tenacity, precision, and client-centered advocacy.
But in 2025, Henry’s focus extends far beyond legal victories. With the creation of the Thomas J. Henry Center for Philanthropy, he is reshaping what it means to give back, using his success to seed hope in the same city where his story began.
A LANDMARK FOR GIVING BACK
Slated to open this fall at 1102 Ocean Drive in Corpus Christi, the new philanthropy center represents a milestone in Henry’s lifelong commitment to community impact. It will serve as a state-of-the-art hub for his charitable initiatives, overseeing the distribution of millions of dollars annually to causes that range from local youth education and hunger relief to global humanitarian support.
“Corpus Christi is not just where we do business—it’s home,” Henry said. “This center is a natural extension of our belief that success should always be shared.”
The initiative reflects the evolution of a man whose generosity has become as well-known as his courtroom prowess. Over the years, Texas attorney and philanthropist Thomas J. Henry has steadily transformed his success into a far-reaching platform for good—turning moments of personal celebration into opportunities for service and impact. He recently received the prestigious Breakie Legacy Award, recognizing his extraordinary commitment to community service and education across the State of Texas.
At the heart of this transformation is Henry’s Feast of Texas program, a statewide effort that provides meals and holiday support for families facing food insecurity. What began as a local Corpus Christi outreach has grown into a multi-city operation that now feeds thousands across the Lone Star State every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Volunteers from Henry’s firm work side-by-side with community members to distribute hot meals, groceries, and gifts, reinforcing a sense of connection and dignity during the season of giving.
Equally ambitious is Henry’s $1 million Birthday Giveaway, launched this year to coincide with his own birthday. The initiative distributes weekly cash gifts to Texans facing hardship, culminating in two $100,000 grand prizes. More than a publicity gesture, the program is designed to spotlight stories of resilience—from single parents rebuilding their lives to small business owners recovering from economic setbacks—turning personal narratives of struggle into symbols of statewide solidarity.
Even Henry’s legendary birthday celebrations, once famous for their star-studded guest lists featuring performers like Cardi B, Pitbull, and DJ Khaled, have evolved into showcases for philanthropy. What were once spectacles of glamour are now reimagined as gatherings that unite celebrity, community, and cause—raising awareness and funds for local charities, youth mentorship, and family wellness programs.
“These efforts are about more than just giving money—they’re about creating experiences, building hope, and showing people that they matter,” Henry said. “When people see that they’re valued, it changes how they see themselves—and that’s where transformation begins.”

Henry’s philanthropic influence was recently honored when he received the Breakie Legacy Award from the nonprofit TEXAS YES, which supports underserved students. The award recognizes lifetime dedication to education and community advancement—a fitting tribute to Henry’s belief that opportunity begins with learning.
“It’s an incredible honor to receive the Breakie Legacy Award,” he said. “Supporting education and lifting up communities is not just a passion—it’s a responsibility.”
TIME From school-supply drives to scholarships, Henry’s support has enabled thousands of Texas students to thrive. Through TEXAS YES and his own charitable projects, he continues to invest in the next generation of leaders—proving that philanthropy can be as strategic and impactful as any courtroom argument.
For Henry, the creation of the Philanthropy Center marks the start of a new era of organized giving. Rather than relying on ad-hoc donations, the center will coordinate long-term partnerships with nonprofits, review grant applications, and guide sustainable programs that address systemic issues.
The location on Ocean Drive carries symbolic weight—it is a return to the city where Henry was born and where his global practice first took root. “This is personal,” he said. “It’s about honoring where I came from and ensuring the next generation has even greater opportunities.”
Beyond Texas, Henry’s philanthropic reach continues to expand. His firm has supported causes from hurricane relief to international children’s health programs, proving that the impact of one determined individual can transcend borders.

Thomas J. Henry’s rise to prominence is the stuff of Texas legend. From modest beginnings in Corpus Christi, he built one of the largest personal-injury law firms in the state, known for securing record-setting verdicts and settlements nationwide. Yet, despite his success, Henry remains grounded in the idea that true power lies in service.
“Whether it’s helping someone through tough times or easing a financial burden, providing assistance to someone I may never meet brings me fulfillment and a deep sense of purpose,” he said.
As he celebrates another milestone year—personally, professionally, and philanthropically—Henry’s message is clear: giving is not an afterthought; it is the foundation upon which enduring success is built.
With the forthcoming opening of the Thomas J. Henry Center for Philanthropy, Corpus Christi is not only gaining a new landmark but witnessing the next chapter in the story of one of Texas’s most dynamic sons—a man who continues to redefine what it means to give back, one community at a time.

I’ll admit, I’m already daydreaming about snowy weekends with a hearty casserole in the oven. Not so much snow that it’s laborious, just a few inches of the light, fluffy variety—the sparkly kind that makes everything feel a bit enchanted. With the cold weather comes festive season, and I’ve spent the past few months searching for unique gifts and treats to share. From Marshmallow Blankets to a Swingin’ Christmas Music Advent Calendar and even duck carnitas gift ideas, let’s gift with gusto and a bit of whimsy this year. 2026 is just around the corner, but for now: let’s curl up in our holiday-themed pajamas and enjoy time with friends and family.

The winter holidays are here and so begins our annual cheese-athon. Murray’s Cheese—a New York staple—is holiday-ready with local delivery, cheese clubs, and virtual and in-person classes. But their annual 12-day advent calendar proves the pièce de resistance with its daily morsels of cheese and curated jam pairings. And for my dairy-free friends and family? I recently fell in love with UmYum’s incredibly rich cashew-based Monroe Camembert. It lands on the East Coast this fall or buy online from Besties Vegan Paradise. CRANBERRY SIMMER
I love finding the perfect holiday hostess gift and buying it in bulk. Between November and December, the calendar is blissfully overwhelming with soirees, so this one holiday hack saves me a ton of time and stress. This year, I’m all in on Lily Belle Boutique Simmer Pots—gorgeous under $20 stovetop potpourri kits. Lean into the holidays with Cranberry Spice and Sugar Cookie or give the gift of calm with the chamomile-orange-lavender Wind Down Simmer Pot. Info: lilybelleboutique.com

As the winter storms start to roll around, coziness is always top-of-mind. I adore candles, but I’m always looking for budget-friendly gifts that are cozy and unique, and the Holiday Workbook for Beginners from Tiffany Ascensio Designs checks all the boxes. Would-be creatives can dabble in watercolor painting with the easy-to-use pre-printed illustration outlines. Grab the workbook and one of the small paint sets and feel good knowing you’re supporting a small business this holiday season. Info: tiffanyascensiodesigns.com

Some years ago, while my husband and I were driving to Connecticut for Christmas, we found a jazzy, swing-style Christmas song on YouTube. He was playing DJ and found a hidden gem that has since become a part of our holiday traditions. So, I was thrilled to find this all swing-style Christmas music advent calendar. Each of the 25 advent windows hides a QR code to download a newly recorded and oh-so swingin’ riff on the classics we all know and love. Info: songbook-ink.com/products/advent-calendar

PJs, jammies, pajamas—whatever your family calls sleepytime attire, the holiday season doesn’t feel quite right without a new pair of flannel jammies. They’re the unsung heroes of festive season, keeping us snuggly during family movies and lazy, lingering breakfasts feasts. Olive & Cocoa’s Snow & Stags set is so striking with its deep blue pattern and contrasting piping, and it’s shipped in the brand’s signature wooden crate and satin ribbon—ready for gifting. If you’re looking for the perfect-for-everyone gift this winter, consider Unhide’s Marshmallow Blanket. It’s thick, sumptuous, and wildly soft, plus this deep red hue makes for a grand statement in any room. Though comparable to a popular Restoration Hardware blanket, Unhide’s version is created with eco-friendly, recycled materials and boasts 14 color varieties. You can even spoil your furry family members with floofy beds and blankets of their own. Info: unhide.us

The Jurgielewicz family has been raising ducks for over 90 years and remains the only poultry farm in North America owned and operated by a veterinarian. The highly giftable, Eat Jewish, delights readers and home cooks with over 100 traditional and modern kosher recipes by Jewish social media influencer and Modern Orthodox Jew Melinda Strauss. Traditional dishes like Potato Kugel and Latkes share the spotlight with Barbecue Brisket Soup, Turkish Cheese Borekas, and Tahini Chocolate Cookie Sticks. Melange Collection offers ornaments, pillows, toys, stockings, and more—all handmade by women artisans across the world. The crotchet ornaments caught my eye since most are under $20, and I think they’d make great teacher or hostess gifts. That said, the website is brimming over with gifts with that built-in nostalgic feeling. You know, instantly, that the toy or stocking will be cherished for years to come. TIMMY’S HOLIDAY SCOWL
What an adorable curmudgeon. I saw Timmy Turtle and couldn’t help but smile; it was love at first scowl. His backstory is as you’d guess—a Grinchy turtle who loves to complain but is somehow undeniably lovable and a real whiz on the ice. He’s among the newly released holiday plush from collectibles hub Jellycat. He claims he’s just going to stay in for the holiday and heat up a TV dinner, but his festive attire gives away his little secret. Deep down beneath his protective shell, he adores the holidays! HEARTFELT ADVENT
It took me all of ten minutes to create a customized advent puzzle on puzzleYOU. The site offers a variety of layouts and styles for personalized advent puzzles and packaging as well. I also really like the brand’s SMART SORTED® custom puzzles, which presorts the pieces into small groups. For example, a 1000-piece puzzle is broken down into 40 sections, each with 25 pieces— perfect for those new to the hobby or family puzzle sessions. It’s the perfect addition to a holiday gathering with friends or family. Info: www.puzzleyou.com

As we look forward to the holiday season and consider the gifts to place beneath the tree or by the menorah for our loved ones, let us not forget the best gifts we have with us every day: our pets! Whether you have furry companions with four legs or feathered friends that can whistle or sing, I have gathered some new and classic toy and treat ideas for this holiday season.

FluentPet has developed a fascinating system that allows pet guardians to communicate with their furry companions via a button-based interface. Each button can be programmed with a specific command or phrase, such as “outside,” “food,” or “play.” When a pet wants to communicate, they can simply press the designated button. This interaction not only provides a method for animals to express themselves but also deepens the bond between pets and their guardians. All that is required is a little patience and a lot of love. Providing your little singing companions with safe and enjoyable chew toys is essential for their wellbeing. Planet Pleasures, a California-based company, has taken the initiative to design a range of toys and chew products that are not only fun for birds but also environmentally friendly. They focus on using nontoxic and sustainable raw materials in the production of their items. This ensures that the toys are safe for pets to chew on and play with, reducing the risk of harmful chemicals interacting with their health. They also have cat products. Have fun, Tweety and Sylvester! Info: planetpleasures.com

A treat a day keeps the vet away—provided they are healthy. Finley’s Sleigh Ride snacks will get your dog in a festive mood with sweet potato and duck gingerbread men. These treats are perfect for stuffing into stockings as they are made without artificial flavors, preservatives, or coloring. This mom-andpop shop became well-known after Ashton Kutcher gave them a shout-out on social media. Finley’s ensures they employ dog lovers and individuals with disabilities or “diffabilities,” as my friend Michael Kutcher (Ashton’s twin brother) phrases it. Therefore, when you give this gift to a dog you adore, you can feel good knowing it comes from a great place. Info: getfinleys.com

Have you ever considered a way to play fetch that does not require you to throw the ball yourself? The iFetch ball launcher is an innovative solution for dog guardians looking to provide their pets with independent entertainment. Your furry friend drops their favorite ball into the launcher, and with a quick mechanism, it shoots it back 10, 20, or 30 ft., depending on the setting you choose. This not only keeps your dog actively engaged but also allows them to enjoy a game of fetch even when you are busy or unable to throw the ball yourself. It does require some training, but once they get used to it, it becomes easier. Skies the limit! Info: goifetch.com

One fast cat revolutionized the cat exercise wheel like never before. Designed to channel a cat’s instincts and high energy levels, this spin wheel keeps pace with your furry friend’s running speed, providing an engaging way to build strength and endurance in your cat. Made in the USA, the wheel is made from non-toxic materials, specifically ABS plastic, ensuring that it is safe for your pet to use. This durable design not only promotes healthy exercise habits but also gives guardians peace of mind, knowing that their cat is playing on a safe, sturdy platform. The One Fast Cat exercise wheel is perfect for indoor environments, allowing cats to run and play even when outdoor space is limited. How fun would it be if your cat’s name was Forrest? Just as we decorate our homes for the holiday season, our aquatic friends deserve a festive touch in their environment. A variety of holiday decorations designed explicitly for aquariums can be found on sites such as Amazon, Etsy, Chewy, and Walmart, among others. Consider incorporating festive items, such as miniature Christmas trees, snowmen, or holiday-themed ornaments that are safe for underwater use. Visiting a destination and exploring one are distinctly different experiences. Exploration is non-linear—it’s about weaving together countless moments into a story you’re fully immersed in. With Ecuador’s Metropolitan Touring, those moments take on a golden luster. Every detail—from the contagious joy of the guides to the raw
Ecuador’s appeal lies in its contrasts. Roughly the size of Colorado, the country encompasses three UNESCO-recognized ecosystems. Metropolitan Touring places travelers in the heart of it all—from meandering through historic Quito in the Andes highlands, to sailing the Galápagos Islands aboard a luxury yacht, to soaring through the canopy at Mashpi Lodge in the Chocó Cloud Forest. Nature, conservation, and cultural connection form the core of every journey.
Before setting off for the Galápagos, I began my journey in Quito, staying at Casa Gangotena, a Relais & Châteaux property overlooking the city’s Plaza San Francisco. I’ve visited Ecuador before, yet each return to Quito feels entirely new—this time, the experience shone even brighter.
My first stop was a gold-leaf workshop with Yolanda Cadena, a master restorer and one of the few women at the forefront of this centuries-old craft. Her studio sits just steps from La Compañía de Jesús, Quito’s most ornate church and a Baroque masterpiece that took 160 years to complete. The moment I entered, I audibly gasped—the church’s interior glows with astonishing gold-leaf detail, its splendor unmatched anywhere else in the Americas.
Later that evening, I dined at Casa Gangotena’s acclaimed restaurant, where Ecuadorian gastronomy balances tradition and innovation. Dishes like Cream of Chaucha Potato transform familiar Andean ingredients into artful expressions of local flavor. The setting—high ceilings, marble floors, and views of the historic plaza—made it a perfect prelude to the adventures ahead.

As enchanting as Quito’s Old Town was, the call of the Galápagos proved irresistible. From Baltra Island, I boarded Yacht La Pinta for Metropolitan Touring’s fiveday “Origin of Species” adventure. The itinerary promised to reveal the extraordinary diversity of the North-Eastern Galápagos—and it delivered in abundance.
Few travel moments compare to snorkeling alongside sea lions and schools of vibrant fish. Yet the most unforgettable experience came when our guide led us to a school of hammerhead sharks gliding below in synchronized formation, sunlight filtering through the water like golden ribbons. It was both humbling and exhilarating.
The yacht—intimate, with just 24 cabins—offers a deeply immersive experience. Over the course of the voyage, we explored Santa Cruz Highlands, Eden Islet, Chinese Hat, Bartolomé Island, Santiago (Sullivan Bay), and Genovesa (Bird Island). Each stop offered land walks and wildlife encounters, from blue-footed boobies to giant tortoises. Afternoons were devoted to snorkeling, kayaking, or simply marveling at nature’s artistry.
Darwin’s legacy permeates every aspect of the journey. His theories and discoveries echo through the islands, grounding the experience in both science and awe. Metropolitan Touring honors that legacy by supporting Galápagos National Park conservation efforts, funding habitat protection, and offsetting carbon emissions through Fundación Futuro’ s forest preservation and reforestation projects.
After the yacht expedition, I lingered a few extra days at Finch Bay Hotel, Metropolitan’s oceanfront property on Santa Cruz Island. A peaceful contrast to the energy of exploration, Finch Bay offered a chance to unwind, write in my salt-stained travel journal, and reflect. Nearby, Tortuga Bay Beach, the Charles Darwin Research Station, and the Las Grietas lava chasm provided a fitting farewell to one of the world’s great natural sanctuaries.
If the Galápagos is an ode to the sea, Mashpi Lodge is a hymn to the sky. Hidden in Ecuador’s Chocó-Andean Cloud Forest, the eco-luxury lodge sits within a 1,200-hectare private reserve—a biodiversity hotspot teeming with life. Arriving here, surrounded by mist-draped treetops and the sounds of unseen wildlife, feels like stepping into a dream.

ECUADOR:
A JOURNEY OF CONNECTION AND CONSERVATION
What struck me most during my twelve days with Metropolitan Touring was how effortlessly the company integrates luxury with purpose. Every stay, meal, and excursion supports local communities and the preservation of Ecuador’s irreplaceable ecosystems. Whether surrounded by Quito’s gilded churches, the Galápagos ancient wildlife, or the living laboratories of the cloud forest, each experience deepens the traveler’s connection to this remarkable country.
Ecuador is not just a place to see—it’s a place to feel. And in the hands of Metropolitan Touring, exploration becomes a story of both beauty and responsibility—one that lingers long after you’ve returned home.
Plan Your Journey
Metropolitan Touring: metropolitan-touring.com
Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel: finchbayhotel.com
Casa Gangotena Boutique Hotel: casagangotena.com
Mashpi Lodge: mashpilodge.com

Metropolitan Touring’s commitment to conservation is perhaps most evident here. Mashpi is not just a lodge—it’s a living research center The property’s Life Center hosts scientists, citizen researchers, and guests eager to engage in hands-on discovery. Research Director Mateo Roldán and resident biologist Chiara Correa lead a team responsible for identifying more than 20 new species, including the captivating Mashpi Glass Frog—a tiny amphibian whose translucent skin reveals its beating heart.
The discovery even inspired an unlikely partnership: global fragrance house MANE and The Red List Project collaborated with Mashpi to create a one-time scent extraction from a newly found magnolia species. Revenue from the fragrance now supports ongoing conservation work in the forest—an elegant example of nature and artistry intertwined.
Days at Mashpi are filled with wonder. Guests can ride the Sky Bike across forest canopies, climb the observation tower for panoramic views, hike to waterfalls, or join a night walk to encounter creatures like the luminous glass frog. For quieter moments, there’s a butterfly sanctuary, a hummingbird garden, and a serene spa. No special outdoor expertise is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to be awed.

The first to greet me at the Fairmont Orchid was the scenery. Through the open-air lobby— minimalist in design, yet expansive in spirit—I caught sight of a row of swaying palms, their edges lit by the late afternoon sun, against a backdrop of the calmest blue sea.

As the gentle weight of a fresh lei settled on my shoulders, a quiet realization bloomed in my mind: I truly am in Hawai’i. What I knew to be everyone’s favorite screensaver was suddenly real, tangible, and alive.
At that moment, I knew that the Fairmont Orchid was the right place to experience the real Hawai’i.
A SPACE TO FLOW WITH, FROM THE FIRST STEP
Set across 32 oceanfront acres on the Kohala Coast of Hawai’i Island, the Fairmont Orchid strikes a perfect balance between elegance and cultural reverence. The property boasts amazing features such as its 10,000 square foot oceanfront pool, golf and tennis courts, and indoor and outdoor event venues.
Its recently refreshed rooms and common spaces showcase earth tones and textures, from sand-to-soil color palettes to natural wood furniture.
This thoughtful restraint in design allows nature to take the spotlight, where garden or ocean views can be soaked in through private lanais or inside-outside interiors in common areas. Here, Hawai’i isn’t the backdrop—it’s the experience.
Staying at the Fairmont Gold tower felt like entering a sanctuary—a home within a home, if you will. Fairmont Gold is a separate, exclusive wing of the resort. It offers a private check-in, personalized concierge services, an all-day snack bar, and access to an exclusive lounge
My room had the feel of a luxurious island residence. Incredible details such as the 500-thread count linens, the marble bathrooms, and a private lanai made my experience of the Big Island even more intimate.
The locally inspired canapés and cocktails served each sunset at the lounge’s ocean-view lanai, the complimentary chef-crafted breakfasts, and the concierge who checked in with me throughout my stay made it feel more like home than any island resort I’ve visited.
What spells true luxury at the Fairmont Orchid is its invitation to experience Hawaiian culture right within the property. I did a private hula lesson with their Director of Hawaiian Culture, Ka’iulani Blankenfeld, a kumu hula (hula master teacher). Not only did she guide me through the choreography, but she also deepened my understanding of its cultural roots.
“When parents and keiki (children) dance together, they’re not only learning a dance,” she said. “They’re connecting to generations of Hawaiian tradition and to each other in a meaningful, lasting way.”
She’s also particularly excited about introducing bamboo stamping to the resort guests. “Bamboo stamps were once carved and used to imprint intricate designs onto kapa (bark cloth), each symbol carrying its own mana, or spiritual energy. By sharing this practice with guests, we invite them to experience the beauty of Hawaiian design and storytelling through their own hands—it’s both a creative expression and a respectful nod to our ancestors’ artistry.”
Other cultural invitations include a walkthrough of the chef’s garden, kukui bracelet-making, and family-friendly storytelling sessions on the beach. These aren’t just resort activities; they are the community’s way of connecting with visitors and inviting them to honor the land as they do.
At the resort, and in Hawai’i in general, nature and culture are one and the same. In the mornings, guests get to join the Hui Holokai ambassadors with their outrigger canoes, greeting the sunrise with a conch shell call.
Throughout the day, you can snorkel in the private lagoon or check out the 80,000 bees that create rare Kiawe honey at their onsite hives. You can also go on a guided cultural walk around the property and cap off the day with the sunset torch-lighting ceremony.

At the resort’s Spa Without Walls, you can enjoy a professional massage surrounded by the sights and sounds of streams, lapping waves, and lush tropical foliage. The spa offers treatments located in open-air thatched hales, where elements like birdsong or the island breeze become part of the healing experience.
The spa offers eight garden hales, six oceanfront cabanas, and three serene indoor rooms for skincare treatments. You can choose from traditional Hawaiian massages, aromatherapy, reflexology, facials, and more, all featuring antioxidant-rich botanicals like coconut oil or Hawaiian sea salt.
Standout treatments include the Fairmont Orchid Ali’i Royal Experience, a two-hour immersive session that features a scalp treatment, skin-polishing scrub, a lava rock massage, and a mud wrap. Another highlight on the menu was the Kahinu Clear Mind: a head and shoulder massage with a leg and foot mud wrap that’s extremely indulgent and grounding.
Dinner at Brown’s Beach House truly made a mark on me. Something about the oceanfront setting—the evening waves hushing in the background as you enjoy live Hawaiian music—reminded me what it truly means to unwind.
The menu elevated the already rich island ambiance. Options such as the Coconut Red Curry Lobster Bisque or the Duroc Pork Chop prove the resort’s commitment to fresh, local flavors that enhance the beachside experience.
Much like the cultural activities or the luxury amenities in each suite, meals at Brown’s Beach House unfold at their own pace, inviting each guest to savor not just the flavors but the moment itself.
AN INVITATION TO THE ISLAND
At the Fairmont Orchid, luxury is never superficial. Luxury doesn’t end at the intricately designed rooms or the immersive spa treatments.
True luxury here is synonymous with access. Whether it’s a stunning urban hotel in our nation’s capital or a multiple-award winning resort on a picturesque 340-acre estate in Virginia’s horse and wine country, the Salamander Collection boasts two outstanding hospitality choices. But don’t choose just one. Enjoy both locations – and experience the luxury from Capital to Country.
The Salamander Collection is a portfolio of seven hotel destinations committed to Founder and CEO Sheila Johnson’s promise – to provide a sense of comfort and gracious hospitality from the moment you arrive.
No place does this better than Salamander Middleburg. Salamander Middleburg is the first destination resort in the D.C. area to receive the Forbes Five-Star Award for its hotel and restaurant, and the only Forbes Five-Star spa in Virginia. The resort is one of only five properties in the nation to earn separate Forbes Five Star awards for its accommodations, restaurant, and spa. The resort has 168 spacious rooms and suites, and all include an outdoor patio or balcony with seating offering outstanding countryside views.

The list of activities at Salamander Middleburg is endless, but at the top is the 22-stall equestrian center with its instructional programming, equine experiences, and miles of scenic riding trails. The Equestrian Center is also home to the resort’s adorable brand ambassador, Cupcake, a thirteen-year-old miniature horse.

Other activities include tennis and pickleball, a fitness center with a variety of fitness classes, an indoor lap pool, miles of hiking and biking trails, fishing, falconry, clay shooting, archery, axe throwing, a variety of lawn games, and an exhilarating tree-top zipline course. Camp Salamander will keep the little ones busy with creative games and crafts and outdoor activities. The resort will soon unveil its new outdoor, multi-level pool complex featuring heated family and adult pools, and full-service kitchen and bar.
Be sure to take some time to explore and experience the Middleburg area, the heart of Virginia’s wine and horse country. Salamander’s complimentary car service will shuttle you to Middleburg’s quaint downtown or three of the town’s wineries. Enjoy a wonderful tasting at Boxwood Estate Winery, Greenhill Vineyards, or Cana Vineyards and Winery.

The Forbes Five Star Award Salamander Spa can create a marvelous wellness experience in its 23,000-square-foot facility. Many of its 14 treatment rooms have private outdoor terraces. We enjoyed an amazing couple’s massage in the couple’s suite. A wonderful tranquil outdoor spa courtyard extended our wellness experience with an infinity-edged relaxation pool, hot tub, and fireplace.
The taste of luxury continues with the culinary creations of Chef de Cuisine, Bin Lu, in Salamander’s Five-Star restaurant, Harriman’s. The menu emphasizes ingredients locally sourced that celebrate the rich resources and history of Virginia’s fertile Piedmont Region. Whether a Small Beginning like Chilled Lobster & Coconut Curry, an Appetizer like Smoked Chanterelle Risotto, or one of their top-quality cuts of beef, the culinary team’s creations are nothing short of dazzling. Harriman’s offers a Sunday Brunch and an Afternoon Tea on Saturdays.
For a more relaxed dining venue, enjoy Gold Cup Wine Bar. Sophisticated yet casual, Gold Cup offers delectable menu options including the freshest sushi and a wonderful wine list with some excellent Virginia wines. Enjoy an expertly-crafted signature cocktail and a game of pool on Gold Cup’s championship table.
For a unique dining experience consider one of the scheduled cooking classes in Harriman’s Cooking Studio. Like a private Chef’s Table, the Studio has guests participate in the preparation of a wonderful meal. Other Studio events include mixology classes or sommelier-led wine tastings.

Salamander DC’s 373 rooms and suites are beautifully appointed, including 51 spacious suites newly redesigned to offer ultimate comfort and versatility. Salamander Spa is a new, dual-level sanctuary offering a wide assortment of skincare and beauty therapies, as well as a variety of massages, body treatments, holistic facials, and Sound Bowl Therapy. Two couple’s suites are wonderfully designed for a shared experience. A state-of-the-art fitness room, Movement Studio, heated indoor pool, and tranquil relaxation rooms will enhance your wellness experience.
Continue your Salamander experience with a visit to our nation’s capital. Located along the Southwest Waterfront, Salamander DC offers views of The Wharf, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Tidal Basin and its iconic cherry blossom trees. The National Mall and its numerous monuments and cultural museums are just a short walk (or bike ride on one of the hotel’s complimentary bicycles) from the hotel..

There is a lot of buzz about Salamander DC’s signature restaurant, Dogon, and rightfully so. A long list of publications such as Conde Nast Traveler, Bon Appetit, Esquire, and the NY Times, selected Dogon as one of the country’s “Best New Restaurants.” James Beard Award-winning chef Kwame Onwuachi heads up a talented culinary team that presents exciting Afro-Caribbean cuisine drawn from Onwuachi’s Nigerian, Jamaican, Trinidadian, and Creole roots. Our dining experience - from our Small Shares of Carrot Tigua and Hoe Crab Cake, to our Large Share of Curry Branzino – was sublime.
The newly-designed lobby-level Lounge offers all-day dining and expertly crafted cocktails. Enjoy al fresco dining on the Lounge Terrance or sip a favorite spirit in the warmth of the firepits.
A Sunday Brunch buffet is offered, as well as an exquisite Afternoon Tea featuring a selection of savories and sweets, fine teas, and a glass of champagne.
Salamander Collection’s five other locations include Half Moon in Montego Bay, Jamaica; Aspen Meadows Resort in Colorado; Hotel Bennett in Charleston, SC; Innisbrook Resort in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area; and the newest entry to the Collection, PGA National resort in Palm Beach.

The Avenue de Champagne: Epicenter of Elegance. Forget Gotham’s swank Park Avenue. Forget Monte Carlo’s Carré d’Or. If you wanted to wipe out most of the world’s veiled wealth in one fell swoop, the place to carry out your nefarious plan would be along the famed Avenue de Champagne in Épernay, France. Buried in a subterranean world some 125 feet beneath this elegant thoroughfare—just over a mile in length—lie, by many estimates, billions of dollars’ worth of the ambrosia of the gods: Champagne. Have flute, will travel.

Along this majestic boulevard are 18 maisons de Champagne, including the legendary Moët & Chandon, Perrier-Jouët, and Pol Roger, as well as lesser-known gems such as Champagne Esterlin (a cooperative) and Champagne A. Bergère.
Beneath the tranquil façade of 18th- and 19th- century mansions lies a sparkling labyrinth—over 200 million bottles of Champagne resting in nearly 70 miles of chalk caves (les crayères). This UNESCO World Heritage Site earned its designation in 2015. Over the years, the Avenue has gone by many names, each evoking luxury, indulgence, and prosperity. Today, locals simply call it “the AC.”
Here you can sip and savor in many of the maisons or take a tour and tasting (reservations recommended). For convenience, there’s an Office de Tourisme on the AC. Still, the Avenue is only one part of Champagne’s larger story. I chose to explore the greater region by car—some solo, and some under the expert guidance of Rémi Boxho, owner of Instants Champagne. Together, we indulged in the beauty, heritage, and sparkle of France’s Grand Est region, a new appellation combining the former territories of Alsace, Champagne-Ardenne, and Lorraine.
A MUSEUM OF BUBBLES AND HISTORY
A stop in Épernay that is de rigueur is the Musée du Vin de Champagne et Archéologie Régionale, housed in the Château de Perrier. The museum is home to some 80,000 objects, including one of France’s largest regional archaeological collections. Among its many treasures is a fascinating exhibit detailing how Champagne was produced in centuries past—a must for any oenophile or history lover.
Rémi, a natural bon vivant, seems to know everyone in “Champagneville.” Sensing my enthusiasm for tasting the various styles of Champagne, he quickly detoured from our set itinerary to include a few spontaneous stops. My original plan featured Lancelot Royer and Pierre Paillard, but we managed to “sandwich in” Henri Giraud, and as we neared Reims, the renowned Ruinart.
Though time was short at each cellar (it’s a shame to “drink and run”), every visit offered something unique—whether architectural splendor, artful presentation, or a singular tasting experience. At Pierre Paillard, we even hopped into a golf cart to tour the vineyards—an unforgettable way to view the source of such effervescence.
MEDIEVAL CHARMS AND MODERN LUXURY
No visit to Champagne would be complete without exploring the medieval village of Troyes. Believed to date back to 600 BC, Troyes offers a vivid departure from the beige-on-ecru palette of typical French countryside towns. Here, colorful half-timbered houses line the streets in delightful contrast.
A visit to Maison Caffet for its ambrosial chocolates—boldly claiming “sans doute les meilleurs”—is non-negotiable. Then, dedicate half a day to the Cité du Vitrail, a museum devoted to the art and evolution of stained glass across ten centuries. Housed in the Hôtel-Dieu-le-Comte, it shares space with an extraordinary historical gem: an intact 18thcentury pharmacy from 1725. Shelves are lined with nearly 300 decorative earthenware pots and another 300-plus painted wooden boxes that once held remedies, herbs, and botanical extracts—a fascinating window into the past.
For a divine interlude, I highly recommend lunch and a spa afternoon at The Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa in Champillon. Perched above the rolling vineyards, this architectural masterpiece seems to hug the mountainside. Each of its 47 suites opens to panoramic vineyard views. The wine list alone—more than 20 pages of Champagne offerings—will challenge even the most seasoned enthusiast.

I stayed at La Demeure des Sacres, a grand B&B owned and operated by the gracious Céline Songy, whose warmth and hospitality were unforgettable. For dinner, I walked five minutes to the Hôtel La Caserne Chanzy, housed in a former firehouse, now home to the Michelin-listed La Grande Georgette. With a view of the Cathédrale and cuisine as beautiful as it was delicious, it was a pictureperfect ending to an exquisite five days in the Grand Est.
In case you’re wondering, America imported nearly 27 million bottles of Champagne in 2024— proof that we’re a nation that knows how to toast in style. So whether you’re savoring a glass on the Avenue de Champagne or in your own living room, raise your flute to the timeless elegance and artistry of France’s most sparkling gift to the world. Alors, à votre santé!
Additional Information

Rémi treated me to a spectacular photo stop in Hautvillers, a UNESCO-listed village famed as the birthplace of Champagne. Here lies the Abbey of Saint-Pierre, final resting place of the Benedictine monk Dom Pérignon. While he didn’t technically invent Champagne, he refined its vinification process, laying the foundation for the sparkling perfection we enjoy today.
Hautvillers is rich with charming restaurants, but Rémi wisely chose Au 36, where the menu is designed around Champagne pairings. After lunch, consider a leisurely cruise on the Marne River—a tranquil finale to a day steeped in history and effervescence.
My journey concluded in Reims, home to the magnificent Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims, a UNESCO site and Gothic masterpiece. Nearby stands the elegant Bibliothèque Carnegie de Reims, a gift from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. The city is also the headquarters of Champagne royalty: Veuve Clicquot, G. H. Mumm & Co., Pommery, and Taittinger all call Reims home.

Washington, D. C. is steeped in both history and modern vitality with emblematic venues that showcase the heights that exceptional people reach culturally, intellectually, and politically. Visiting during the holidays is a quintessential opportunity to experience some of the historic national monuments, parks, museums—and the spectacular Hillwood, Marjorie Merriweather Post’s former home—garland-strewn and decorated in seasonal finery. The classic celebrations are a bonus: the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony (December 3), the lighting of the National Menorah (December 14), the nightly tree-lighting at National Harbor and the month-long Pageant of Peace, with its free nightly entertainment, plus holiday markets, ice skating, and performances of The Christmas Carol or The Nutcracker.
One year after the District of Colombia was created as our nation’s capital city, in 1790, at the confluence of the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers, Pierre Charles L’Enfant laid out the city’s physical framework with geometric quadrants on a traditional north-south, east-west grid: Northwest (NW), Northeast (NE), Southeast (SE) and Southwest (SW). Then, he added a network of diagonal axes, wheel and spoke-like streets and the broad “avenues” of public land for parks, and circles which add to the appeal of the city.
The White House, the National Mall, Dupont and Logan Circles, the Kennedy Center and historic Georgetown occupy Northwest, the largest quadrant and the central business district. The colonial era neighborhood of Georgetown had been established as a free-standing town, forty years before the capital was created; today, visitors flock to its boutiques, restaurants and two familiar five-star hotels: the Four Seasons Hotel Washington D.C. and The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown.
The letter W links the Northwest addresses to three other iconic five-star hotels that are perfect places to rendezvous, with luxurious accommodations, business centers, fitness facilities and spa services.

The Waldorf Astoria Washington, D.C. opened in June 2022 within The Old Post Office building, c.1892, where the National Park Service operates the 315-foot Clock Tower, the city’s second highest observation tower. Peacock Alley, its nine-story, light-infused atrium soars above the lobby and restaurants: Sushi Nakazawa holds a Michelin-star, The Tasting Salon offers private tastings with paired food and Jose Andres operates The Bazaar.
The Watergate maintained Luigi Moretti’s original 1967 curvilinear “ship on the Potomac” look, when it launched in June 2016, after a $125 million makeover that features spiral stairs, mirror-polished twisted columns, Ron Arad’s softly rounded red furnishings. The Next Whiskey Bar boasts stainless-steel tubes and spiral steel shelving; Kingbird, the double-height restaurant, features eight large spiral chandeliers descending from a black polished plaster ceiling and Top of the Gate Rooftop offers 360* panoramic views.
The Willard InterContinental Washington D.C. has welcomed U.S. Presidents since Franklin Pierce, in 1853, and notables from Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King Jr.. On a recent November day, I arrived at the 335room destination in time for lunch the iconic Round Robin Bar just as handlers were transporting two turkeys from their van to a press conference in the ornate lobby. The Willard Tea Room in Peacock Alley, features live harp music and Café du Parc serves French brasserie fare.
W also begins the word Wharf, a recently constructed, mile-long, waterfront pedestrian promenade in Southwest, within a 24-acre commercial, residential and entertainment development. It includes The Anthem, a 3,000-seat major concert venue and the city’s second InterContinental Washington, D.C. – The Wharf, a contemporary, glass-clad, hotel.

It’s a four-hour drive—or bus ride—from New York to D. C. and a faster train trip via AMTRAK between the exquisite new Moynahan Station to the beautifully renovated Union Station in center city. This past August, I flew to Washington Dulles International (26 miles distant); there are also flights to Ronald Reagan International Airport, just across the Potomac in Virginia. I usually take taxis or Ubers plus the D.C. Circulator ($1) bus to and around the National Mall and to Georgetown; this summer, my friend’s daughter gifted us with a private car and guide from Continental City Tours LLC, which was the most expedient way to see so many monuments in just a few hours.
Washington, D.C. has lured me back a dozen times since my first childhood visit to the historic Mayflower Hotel and I’ve returned with Girl Scouts, family, friends and for travel research. If you haven’t been there lately, consider the joy of seeing it for the holidays.

Round Robin Bar, which made its debut, in 1847, holds a signature title as the “Oval Office of bars.” In August 2025, we arrived at the famous circular bar for a Mint Julep and Negroni, and stayed for delicious crab cakes, charcuterie and a vanilla Napoleon.
The Bazaar by Jose Andres was my must-do dining destination in Beverly Hills and Miami before the chef-philanthropist became my hero via World Central Kitchen. My tapas choices remain: pan tomate, a fresh tomato topped crostini; patatas bravas, (or papas bravas) crisp, bite-sized, fried potato cubes topped with spicy tomato sauce and served with aioli, a garlicky, lemon-enhanced mayonnaise; croquetas, chicken or ham béchamel-filled fritters; grilled gambas al ajillo (garlicky shrimp), and jamón ibérica pata negra aka jamón ibérica de bellota, thin prosciutto-like slices Spain’s best cured ham, sourced from acorn-fed, black-hoofed pigs.
La Chaumière, which launched in 1976, serves authentic French cuisine in Georgetown within a traditional country-inn setting complete with a stone fireplace. My friend ordered the escargots Bourgognes (snails), Cote de Veau au Chanterelles (veal chop) and I chose: foie gras (duck liver), steak aux poivres (pepper steak) and a soufflé grand marnier.

The Rise of the Solo Traveler...
It started with just a few of us — people who love to travel across the United States and around the world on our own, discovering new places, people, languages, and cultures, and seeing sights we’ve only imagined through books, films, and television shows. Then there were more of us, and now it’s a travel trend all its own — the solo traveler.
It’s a solid movement. A recent Booking.com survey found that 59% of respondents planned to go it alone in 2025. And it’s not limited to one demographic — solo travelers include women over 50, men in their 20s and 30s, and everyone in between.
Solo travelers are embracing some of the latest travel trends, including the idea of the “soft reset” — a trip focused on relaxation and wellness. It might mean a long weekend at a destination spa like Miraval Berkshires or Canyon Ranch Lenox, both in Massachusetts, or even a full week devoted to rejuvenation.
For many, these solo escapes offer the perfect chance to unplug, reset, and reconnect with themselves. No schedules to keep, no compromises to make — just pure self-care.
STARGAZING ADVENTURES: NOCTOURISM AND ASTROTOURISM
Others are heading out for “noctourism” or “astrotourism” adventures, traveling to dark-sky destinations where the stars take center stage. Head to Death Valley, California (best in winter), or explore one of Arizona’s 13 Dark Sky Parks. Utah is another haven for stargazers, boasting 29 certified parks where the Milky Way fills the night sky.
A fall solo trip to Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, and Capitol Reef National Parks offers crystal-clear skies, pleasant weather, and far fewer crowds than summer. Park rangers lead nighttime tours to reveal the mysteries of the stars, and for a unique stay, book a cozy covered wagon at Zion Wildflower, WorldHotels Crafted Glamping Resort.
Traveling solo is easy — if you remember a few key principles. Start by deciding how you want to organize your trip: plan it yourself or book through a tour company.
If you go the DIY route, always book directly with airlines, car rental agencies, and cruise lines. When problems arise, it’s much easier to resolve them directly with the company rather than through a third-party vendor. And don’t skip travel insurance. The most cost-effective way is to purchase annual coverage from a trusted provider like Allianz Travel Insurance, ensuring every trip is automatically protected against medical emergencies, lost baggage, travel delays, and rental car damage.

Prefer having everything handled for you? Tour companies that cater to solo travelers are booming. Solo Female Travelers Club, for example, organizes womenonly adventures around the world, while Inntravel designs self-guided tours across Europe that focus on walking, cycling, city exploration, and train travel. They handle the logistics — hotels, luggage transfers, trains, and flights — while you enjoy the freedom to move at your own pace with their custom guides.
Even the cruise industry has caught up to the solo travel trend. Many cruise lines are dropping the dreaded single-supplement fees that once made solo cruising expensive. Check smaller lines like Swan Hellenic and Avalon Waterways River Cruises for their no-supplement offers, or opt for big names like Norwegian Cruise Line and Holland America Line, both of which now include dedicated solo cabins on new ships.
Your safety is the foundation of a great solo trip. Invest in RFID-protected wallets and bags to guard against electronic theft. Use interior zipper pockets for your passport, cash, and credit cards. A neck lanyard for your cellphone is also a smart idea — it helps prevent both theft and accidental loss when exploring new destinations.
Always stay aware of your surroundings, trust your instincts, and keep your plans flexible. Confidence and common sense are a solo traveler’s best companions.
Perhaps the best part of solo travel is the freedom it brings. You can meet new people at every turn — or talk to no one at all. There’s no debate over where to eat, what to see, or when to stop and simply watch the world go by.
On this journey, every choice is yours. It’s an exhilarating way to experience total travel freedom — and you might just find you absolutely love it.

Iarrived on a crisp afternoon when the light hit the treetops just so—one of those golden Greenwich moments that feels as if the world has slowed down to show off a little. Just beyond the quiet curve of Anderson Road, tucked into a manicured corner of town, stood a new home that immediately captured my attention. Its clean lines and graceful proportions were both modern and timeless, the kind of architecture that whispers rather than shouts.

This was 3 Anderson Road, a 2025 new construction by HOBI Award–winning RA Land Development, with interiors by the celebrated Laura Michael Design. It’s a rare find: a property that manages to feel both stately and soulful, blending luxury and livability with a natural ease that’s become Greenwich’s signature style.
Inside, the home unfolds like a quiet revelation— high ceilings, walls of glass, sunlight that seamlessly dances across oak floors. The chef’s kitchen, fitted with Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances and a grand center island, is clearly meant for both function and gathering. I could easily imagine friends gathered around sipping wine out on the heated- lamp Terrace that makes indoor outdoor entertainment a breeze to enjoy all year long.
Every detail has been considered: custom cabinetry, Julien sinks, and thoughtful storage that transforms everyday tasks into small pleasures. Yet for all its precision, the house feels remarkably warm—more sanctuary than showplace.

The primary suite is perhaps where the home’s personality shines brightest. A double-sided fireplace offers a gentle glow that flickers between the bedroom and spa bath, creating an atmosphere that’s almost cinematic. The steam shower, radiant heated floors, and private balcony make it easy to imagine long winter mornings spent lingering in comfort.
On the same level, four more en-suite bedrooms bask in natural light, each with its own quiet charm. Even the laundry suite is a study in efficiency and elegance—complete with built-ins, steam drawers, and double washers and dryers.

A hydraulic elevator glides effortlessly to every floor, including the lower level, where a gym, guest suite, and a pre-wired theater or golf simulator await. And at the very top—a touch of magic—a rooftop deck with views stretching toward the Long Island Sound. Standing there, you understand what makes Greenwich so special: the blend of coastal tranquility and cosmopolitan sophistication.
Outside, a Gunite pool and integrated spa shimmer beneath the afternoon sun, framed by evergreens for ultimate privacy. It’s a backyard that feels like a private resort, yet just minutes from the boutiques and cafés of Greenwich Avenue.
3 Anderson Road isn’t just a home—it’s a statement of how we want to live now. Spacious yet intimate, polished yet personal, it captures the essence of Greenwich: an enduring sense of beauty, balance, and belonging.

There are places where luxury is built, and then there are places where it’s born of setting and soul. Jupiter Island is one of those rare enclaves—a slender stretch of paradise where the ocean meets architectural grace, and every home feels like a story waiting to be told. Standing before 183 South Beach Road, I felt that unmistakable sense of arrival, the quiet hum of perfection that only true craftsmanship and nature in harmony can create.

From the moment I arrived, I felt the quiet grandeur that defines this residence. The approach itself sets the tone—lush landscaping, sweeping lawns, and the sound of waves beyond the dunes. The home’s Mediterranean design blends classic detailing with a relaxed coastal sensibility, creating an atmosphere that feels both stately and deeply personal.
Inside, the craftsmanship is unmistakable. The main house reveals an elegant rhythm of arches, stonework, and light-filled spaces. Each room unfolds naturally into the next, designed for both intimacy and flow. The primary suite is its own world—a private retreat complete with dual full bathrooms, custom closets, and an adjoining office that overlooks the sea. It’s the kind of space where mornings begin slowly, with sunlight spilling across the ocean, and evenings end in absolute tranquility.

Downstairs, the home invites effortless entertaining and daily ease. A guest suite ensures privacy for visitors, while a second office and two half baths offer flexibility for both family life and hosting. Rare for South Florida, the lower-level basement expands the home’s possibilities—a hidden advantage for storage, creative use, or future customization.
The interior palette feels timeless—warm neutrals, fine materials, and textures that mirror the natural beauty just beyond the windows. It’s luxury that whispers rather than shouts, elegant without ever feeling ostentatious.

What makes this estate truly special, though, is its setting. Jupiter Island is known for its understated exclusivity—a community of serene beaches, conservation-minded design, and world-class living. There are no highrises here, no crowds—just miles of pristine shoreline and the soft hum of nature. Residents cherish the privacy while remaining close to the cultural and culinary energy of Palm Beach, just a short drive away.
Standing on the oceanfront terrace, I could feel the rhythm of the island: the stillness between waves, the salt air moving through tropical gardens, the way the horizon seems to stretch endlessly forward. There’s a certain magic to Palm Beach—an alchemy of sunlight, sea air, and sophistication that turns every moment into something cinematic. I felt it instantly upon arriving at 242 Wells Road, a home where French Provincial grace meets the effortless glamour of coastal living. This residence captures the soul of Palm Beach: timeless, tranquil, and exquisitely refined.

From the moment I turned into the stonelined driveway, I knew I was somewhere extraordinary. The 7,460-square-foothome rises elegantly from a 19,500-square-foot lot, its limestone façade and steep slate roof recalling the estates of the French countryside. Yet beneath the Florida sun, the design feels utterly at ease—classic, but never old-fashioned.
Graceful balustrades and manicured gardens frame the entry, leading to a decorative stone drive and a three-car garage that feels more like a carriage house than mere parking. There’s a cinematic sense of arrival here—every architectural line deliberate, every shadow intentional.
Wells Road itself, a quiet, tree-lined stretch and is one of the most coveted streets in Palm Beach lined with mature, landmarked Australian Pines.. It’s a neighborhood of legacy and serenity—close to Worth Avenue’s boutiques and the Intracoastal’s breezy pathways, yet cocooned in its own calm.

Inside, the home unfolds in a rhythm of light and proportion. Hardwood and marble floors gleam beneath high ceilings, reflecting sunlight that filters through tall French doors. The formal living room, anchored by a marble fireplace, seems made for intimate gatherings, while the dining room, crowned with a crystal chandelier, evokes evenings of laughter and candlelight.
The chef’s kitchen blends beauty and function effortlessly, with custom cabinetry, professionalgrade appliances, and honed stone counters. It opens to a charming breakfast nook overlooking lush gardens—a space that feels like a private café.

Upstairs, the primary suite is an ode to serenity. French doors open to a terrace where the terracotta rooftops glow in the afternoon light and the ocean breeze drifts through. The spa-like bath, finished in marble with a soaking tub and walk-in shower, redefines indulgence. Each guest suite continues the theme of thoughtful design, offering natural light, privacy, and views of palm-framed gardens.
Even the hallways are artful—broad and bright, perfect for showcasing collections or simply enjoying how sunlight moves across the walls throughout the day.
Step outside, and the world seems to slow. The pool terrace, framed by lush hedges and tropical landscaping, feels like a private resort. A decorative courtyard connects seamlessly with the garden pathways, creating a natural flow for entertaining, lounging, or evening cocktails under a coralhued sky.
Here, 242 Wells Road becomes more than an address—it’s an experience. With elegance rooted in European tradition and soul firmly in Palm Beach’s modern rhythm, it embodies the art of living beautifully.
At $26,500,000, this residence is not simply a home; it’s a statement of legacy. Because in Palm Beach, life isn’t just lived—it’s curated.

There’s something timeless about Southport Village—that rare New England blend of coastal charm and quiet sophistication. Walking down Willow Street feels like stepping into another era, where sailboats drift across the harbor and historic homes rest beneath towering maples. Among them, 260 Willow Street stands apart, seamlessly uniting classic architecture with contemporary grace.
Designed by renowned architect Christopher Pagliaro, the home embodies his philosophy of “addition by subtraction”—a belief that beauty lies in simplicity and proportion. The result is a residence that feels sculptural, calm, and purposeful.
Inside, natural light pours through generous windows, illuminating bespoke millwork and fine finishes. Every line feels intentional, every space artfully balanced between openness and intimacy. The floor plan flows effortlessly—crafted not just for living, but for living well. It’s an environment where elegance meets ease, where craftsmanship enhances comfort.

The property’s transformation extends far beyond the main house. A guest house, pool, and pool house have been meticulously reimagined, creating a unified estate that invites both relaxation and refined entertaining. The pool terrace feels like a private coastal retreat, framed by lush gardens and soft breezes from the nearby Sound.
What makes this home truly special, though, is its setting. Just a short stroll from Southport Harbor, the location captures the essence of village life—morning walks along the water, evenings at the local inn, and weekends sailing beneath the Connecticut sun. It’s a lifestyle that balances sophistication with simplicity.
260 Willow Street is more than a beautifully executed renovation—it’s a reflection of how we aspire to live today: surrounded by history, connected to nature, and enveloped in quiet luxury. In Southport, life moves at its own graceful pace—and this home embodies that rhythm perfectly.

Here, on nearly three acres along Lemon Bay, sits 7159 Manasota Key Road, a Mediterranean-inspired estate that feels more like a private resort than a residence.
From the moment the gates open, the sense of arrival is unmistakable. The winding drive, framed by tranquil ponds and sculpted gardens, leads to a grand porte cochère and a home that radiates grace. Inside, a soaring two-story foyer welcomes you with marble floors, stately columns, and soft light filtering through stained-glass transoms. Every detail— coffered ceilings, custom millwork, and eight fireplaces reveals the hand of artisans who understood that beauty begins with balance.
The 12,789-square-foot layout invites both grand entertaining and private retreat. The chef’s kitchen, fitted with Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, dual islands, and a wine fridge, opens to elegant dining and living areas designed for flow and connection. The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF) hosted their 28th Annual Collaborating for a Cure fundraiser, A Celebration of Breakthroughs, at Apella in New York City. The event raised $1.6 million, including a dollar-for-dollar match through the partnership with The Mark Foundation for Cancer Research. Funds raised will support new scientific research grants starting in early 2026.

Celebrating nearly 50 years of funding crucial cancer research, the event also marked a new milestone for the Foundation — the official launch of the Samuel Waxman Institute for Aging & Cancer. This first-of-its-kind organization will bring together the world’s top scientists to study aging and cancer together.
“Aging is the greatest risk factor for cancer, yet we still have much to learn about how aging impacts cancer development and treatment. By uniting experts in both aging and cancer, we can uncover new ways to prevent and treat it. Thank you to all our supporters for making this vision possible,” said Dr. Samuel Waxman.
The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation is an international organization dedicated to curing and preventing cancer. The Foundation is a pioneer in cancer research, and its mission is to eradicate cancer by funding cutting-edge research that identifies and corrects abnormal gene function that causes cancer and develops minimally toxic treatments for patients.
Through the Foundation’s collaborative group of world-class scientists, the Institute Without Walls, investigators share information and tools to speed the pace of cancer research. Since its inception in 1976, the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation has awarded more than $120 million to support the work of more than 200 researchers across the globe.

The event honored Robert Wiener, Chairman Emeritus of Maxx Properties, as Philanthropist of the Year; Jean Shafiroff, philanthropist, author, and TV personality, as Philanthropist of the Year; and Dr. Jeffrey Settleman, Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer, Oncology Research and Development at Pfizer, with the Breakthrough Science Award.
The elegant evening included live musical performances by Shayna Steele (Hairspray, Rent, Hair on Broadway) and John Riddle (Phantom of the Opera, Frozen on Broadway) accompanied by pianist Dan Micciche, music director and conductor for WICKED on Broadway. Recognized as one of New York’s most inspiring philanthropic evenings of the year, the Collaborating for a Cure dinner unites leaders in business, science, fashion, and entertainment. In addition to the live performances and dinner, guests participated in a thrilling live auction that included dinner for four at Rao’s, a 10-day cruise with Seabourn, and a VIP Gameday Experience with the NY Knicks, to name a few — all to bring us closer to curing cancer.
Notable attendees included: Dr. Samuel Waxman, Marion Waxman, Robert Wiener, Jean Shafiroff, Dr. Jeffrey Settleman, Mark D. Friedman, Maxine Friedman, Jamie Koff, Heidi Russo, Randi Schatz, Orital Karelic, NYS Assembly Member Rebecca A. Seawright, Shayna Steele, John Riddle, and Dan Micciche.

Dear Mindie,
I need some guidance. My friend only reaches out when she needs something; a favor, advice, or support and it’s starting to feel onesided. I really care about her and value our friendship, but I also feel drained and frustrated.
I want to be there for her, but I don’t want to feel used or resentful. I’ve tried hinting or gently saying no, but I worry that setting boundaries might hurt our relationship or push her away. How can I take care of my own needs without risking the friendship? I just want a balance where both of us feel supported and respected.
Sincerely,
Dear Drained,
Friendships, just like relationships have ebbs and flows and sometimes one of the pair is pulling more weight than the other. It’s not always an even scale. That said, it sounds like the pattern you’re now in with your friend has been going on for quite some time, thus, creating some anxiety and anger for you about the dynamics. My first piece of advice would be to have an honest conversation with your friend. In doing so, I would focus more on your feelings and the sense of hurt you have, as well as what you feel you are missing in the friendship.
Explaining what you need rather than pointing a finger at your friend and highlighting what she may be doing “wrong” in the equation will safeguard you from confrontation. The dialogue may still create conflict but that is normal and healthy in any relationship. Focusing on how to repair your bond rather than the conflict itself will likely bring you closer to your friend. And if she values your friendship and cares as deeply for you as you seem to care for her, she will listen and be concerned and know you are speaking to her from a place of love, rather than resentment.
My next suggestion, should your friend not be receptive to your openness, would be too deeply reflect on where the friendship is today. Most people cling onto friendships longer than their actual shelf life due to the time we’ve invested in them and because of the history they hold for us.

But like anything in life, friendships change. Your friend may have had circumstances in her own life alter, changing her in some shape or form, causing your friendship has pivoted a bit. That is also normal. People do change, needs change and life circumstances are always in transition. Rather than getting angry about this try and look at it from a place of understanding and acceptance, then revisit the effort you are personally putting into your friendship and revise it so that it’s more aligned with what you’re receiving.
For instance, if you’re only getting 30% from your friend, do not give her 90%. It doesn’t have to be an even playing field but meeting her where she is regarding your time and effort will leave you feeling less resentful and have more self-respect. In time, this ratio may increase (or decrease) based on your needs or hers so just take things per season with your friend and others in your life. Adult friendships are tricky but they’re important and impactful for our mental health, self-esteem and confidence and physical well-being.
Wishing you lots of love and friendship!
xo Mindie

Step inside the simple yet elegant Executive Hotel Le Soleil at 38 West 36th Street--known for having some of the largest and well-appointed rooms in Midtown--and you will find the most stunning of steakhouses that has quickly become a favorite of out-of-town visitors and local foodies alike. Atlantis Prime serves all the prime cuts including Japanese Wagyu but also excels at seafood, pasta, tempting homemade desserts and more. Heck, the food is so good that you just might want to book a room at Executive Hotel Le Soleil so that you can visit non-stop during your visit to The Big Apple!
Members of the New York Lifestyles Magazine foodie staff (including yours truly) recently headed over to Atlantis Prime for a friend’s birthday dinner and we were bedazzled. The staff is so friendly and they will ask you if you want your order customized in any way—and they are of course concerned about any food allergies. Sure, you expect a New York steakhouse to pull out all the stops for their customers, but the team at Atlantis Prime does everything except stand on their heads. Part of this is that they have only been open since early spring and are trying to put their best foot forward.
APPS THAT ARE “APP-PEALING”
Atlantis Prime knows how to set the tone for a meal with their highly praised appetizers that are heavy on the seafood. Lobster Ceviche is a crowd pleaser that’s as beautiful as it is tasty, while Tuna Tartare remains a staple among the regulars. Clams Oreganata and Spanish Pulpo offer flavorful, shareable options. For the landlubber set, the Beef Meatballs with Marinara and Melted Mozzarella is an Italian comfort food dish of the highest degree, and the Burrata Con Panna with Roasted Tomato and Pineapple brings a sweet-savory combo that surprises guests in the best way. Buffalo Mozzarella with Tomato, Onion, and Vinaigrette is a light and healthy choice, and I guarantee that both the freshness and softness of the homemade mozz will blow you away.

As mentioned above, seafood plays just as big of a role in Atlantis Prime’s popularity. For those who like to live like there’s no mortgage check due at the end of the month, the Twin Lobster Tails with garlic, lemon, and butter are a classic luxe surf favorite. The Seafood Risotto is a simple Northern Italian dish elevated with fresh shellfish, while the Grilled Whole Branzino provides lighter, Mediterranean fare for those who prefer fish to steak or are just trying to eat healthier. Pan-Seared Halibut with Piccata Sauce and Grilled New Zealand Ora King Salmon are two of the most popular options on the menu.
Desserts conclude the Atlantis Prime experience with a bang, and a few items have become signature crowdpleasers for people with sweet tooths. The Napoleon Cake is a top pick for its creamy, delicate layers, and I have to be honest and tell you that it is often sold out (call ahead if this is an item that you specially came to have). The warm New York Apple Crumble gives guests that nostalgic grandma-style apple pie flavor except for its irresistible super cinnamony crumbs. The Crème Brûlée, Blackout Cake, and Vesuvius Cake each offer something different—from light to rich to “over the top” in every way.

Guests often rave about the Bone-In Ribeye, which is dry-aged in house and delivers that deep, rich flavor people think of as part of true steakhouse experience. I personally tried this beautiful marbled meat medium rare and it was served just like the legendary Peter Luger’s steaks are—sliced at the table by your server, who also pours the natural juices and melted butter over each portion. The Porterhouse For Two is another amazing dish served at the table sizzling and then sliced and covered in butter, making it a favorite for carnivores with giant appetites. The BoneIn New York Strip has a slightly leaner but still dramatic flavor profile, while the Japanese A5 Filet Mignon really delivers to any guest seeking a decadent, melt-inyour-mouth cut.

Now, let me call out my personal reasons for loving Atlantis Prime. First of all, the steaks are as good or better than any other steakhouse in NYC—and yes, that includes the aforementioned Peter Luger, Gallagher’s and Sparks. The prices for all beef cuts are a little more reasonable at Atlantis Prime (I would say the prices are actually 15 per cent less on all menu items). Secondly, the restaurant is huge and tables are well-spaced--the décor is what I would call “classic steakhouse” but with accents of strong gem colors including a red front entrance and mustard gold walls (the circular white space age chandeliers somehow work really well with all this). Thirdly, you cannot beat the location which is smack dab in the center of town—36th Street halfway between Fifth and Sixth. What a great place to take out of town guests after a classic tourists’ day of visiting the Empire State Building and Macy’s!
Lastly, I’ve got a big secret about Atlantis Prime that might just have you running over there: they have Manhattan’s greatest steak bargain as part of their $55 dinner prix fixe menu. You have to add an extra $15 to get the New York Strip (dry aged in house) but included are your choice of four great appetizers (including the aforementioned Burrata Con Panna served with a toasted house made sliced French bread) and choice of three sides (Sauteed Broccoli, Creamed Spinach and Mashed Potatoes). The crowd favorite Grilled New Zealand Ora King Salmon is on the prix fixe menu as well for no additional money. There is also a three course $30 lunch prix fixe that includes the ultra-tender and juicy Petite Filet Mignon for only an add on of $15.
Once you try Atlantis Prime, it will become one of your “go to” spots because of food consistency, large portions and no rush, attentive service. • Plan ahead. December reservations disappear quickly, especially at Tavern on the Green, The Modern, and Rockefeller Center favorites.
• Go late. The city’s romance peaks after dark—Central Park glows, The Modern’s garden gleams, and Hudson Yards feels like a constellation.
• Stay current. With Lodi’s closure this fall, Le Rock, Jupiter, and Pebble Bar now define Rockefeller’s dining scene.
Whether your taste runs to old-New-York pageantry or modern sparkle, dining out during the holidays in Manhattan is as much about atmosphere as appetite. So dress up, order that extra dessert, and let the city do what it does best—turn every meal into a moment worth remembering

There’s something undeniably magical about fall in New York City — the golden light, the crisp air, and the irresistible invitation to indulge in life’s finer pleasures. For those who savor the artistry of chocolate and the sophistication of the city, Mariebelle New York’s SoHo boutique offered the perfect autumn escape: an evening where flavor, fashion, and craftsmanship converged in the most delicious way.
Mariebelle New York welcomed the fall season with an elegant celebration at its flagship SoHo location, inviting guests to savor the new Fall Chocolate Collection inspired by the rich colors, scents, and sensations of the season.
Set against the backdrop of the brand’s signature blueand-gold salon, the evening captured the artistry and refinement that has made Mariebelle synonymous with luxury chocolate for over two decades. Guests sampled chocolates and had the chance to catch up while savoring each piece, hand-made with the brand’s distinctive designs.
MarieBelle New York founder and CEO Maribel Lieberman was born and raised near the cacao fields of Honduras and, as a young girl, she made and sold sweets to the local community. She emigrated to the U.S. and studied at The Parsons School of Design where she developed her innate sensibility for luxury goods, fine food and elegant fashion, she launched her entrepreneurial career in the 1990s with Maribel Gourmet Cuisine, a catering enterprise serving highprofile clients, U.S. Diplomats, and a U.S. President. In October 2000, Maribel opened the doors of her first retail shop, Lunettes Et Chocolat. This was an eclectic boutique offering designer eyewear and handmade chocolates.
Shortly after in 2001, Maribel opened MarieBelle New York in Soho. MarieBelle NY quickly gained a loyal following from local and international customers with discerning palettes. Word made it to Oprah about MarieBelle NY and her unparalleled Aztec Hot Chocolate, which she announced as one of her “favorite things.” From these beginnings. MarieBelle NY is recognized as a top chocolate house with stores in New York and Japan.

From the aroma of freshly poured hot chocolate to the music playing through the cocoa-scented air, the soirée embodied the warmth and sophistication of fall in New York. Attendees from the worlds of art, design, and fashion gathered to toast the new collection and enjoy conversation over cups of Mariebelle’s signature Aztec Hot Chocolate and decadent petits fours. “Chocolate has always been about storytelling,” noted Founder Maribel Lieberman. “Our fall collection celebrates craftsmanship, heritage, and the timeless joy of sharing something beautiful with others.”

Even if you’re not old enough to remember 1997’s “Anaconda,” a seriously dopey jungle horror flick with Jennifer Lopez and Jon Voight, you’re still going to want to run to the theater to see this goofy remake of that silly schlock. This time, 2025’s “Anaconda” features a can’t miss trio of very funny men, as Paul Rudd, Jack Black and Steve Zhan join forces as aspiring filmmakers who decide to hit the jungle to make their dream movie – a reimagining of that camp classic. Thandiwe Newton and Ione Skye round out the cast of this comic horror flick.

Let’s face it, we’d watch James Cameron’s newest movie if it was that legendary director sitting and reading the phone book. Happily, he’s not doing that here, but he is adding to the “Avatar” world that he created in 2009 with the third film in his five-part epic story of Pandora and the Na’vi people who call that distant moon their home. “Fire and Ash” continues their battle for survival in the midst of incredibly beautiful scenery on both land and in the sea.
Glen Powell reprises the role of Ben Richards in this remake of the 1987 film of the same name. While both old and new “The Running Man” movies are based on a Stephen King novel (writing as Richard Bachman) written in 1982, this new iteration leans into King’s dystopian story of a desperate man who joins a televised game show with stakes of life or death. Can he evade the team of killers out to get him? Tune in at the movie theater to find out. Josh Brolin, Lee Pace, Sean Hayes, Michael Cera and Coleman Domingo round out the cast.

SING ALONG AT THE MOVIES

WICKED FOR GOOD
PG-13
This musical biopic is a bit of an odd one, as it follows the true-life story of a Milwaukee couple whose tribute band focused on Neil Diamond and Patsy Cline. The local duo, Mike and Claire Sardina, used the stage names Lightning and Thunder, and became famous for their entertaining live shows. This look at the duo stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, in a tale that follows the highs and lows of a couple that found local (and now worldwide) fame by being someone else when they hit the stage.
Part two of the “Wicked” film saga rides broomstick and pink bubble into theaters just in time for Thanksgiving, finishing up the story of Elphaba and Glinda’s lives in the wonderful land of Oz. More music, more drama, some flying monkeys and lots more, led by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as the two witches who control the fate of Oz. Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Peter Dinklage and Bowen Yang return, all bringing their special style to this movie based on the hit Broadway show and best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire.

Showrunner/creator Kurt Sutter leaves modern motorcycle gangs behind and heads into the Wild West in this series based in the 1850s. He’s also focusing on matriarchs this time, with two very different women leading pioneer families in the wilds of the Washington Territory and clashing with each other. Gillian Anderson leads the wealthy Van Ness faction, while Lena Headey controls the more ragtag, but forceful Nolans in a place where murder and brutality rule the day. It’s the far West of the emerging United States, in a time when anything goes. Which woman prevails? Tune in to find out.

Vince Gilligan, the man behind “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” has taken his fertile mind into a science-fiction future with “Pluribus,” and made a woman the protagonist of his vision. Rhea Seehorn stars in this series that he conceived, wrote, directed, produced and runs the whole show, so if you like his twisted multiple Emmy Award-winning sensibilities, this one’s likely to make your day. Gilligan is no stranger to sci-fi, for he wrote 30 episodes of “The X-Files” back in the day, and produced 127 of them, so look for a lot of mysterious happenings in this 10-episode series.

If you buy into the idea of Kim Kardashian as a high-powered divorce attorney (who apparently wears skirts cut up to the top of her thigh in court), then “All’s Fair” is the new Ryan Murphy show for you. She leads a pack of women with law degrees who get fed up with the male-dominated law firm norm and decide to hang out their own allwoman shingle. If the acting credentials of her co-stars are any sign of success, this one may have the Midas touch, as Glenn Close, Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash, Sarah Paulson and Teyana Talor make up the cabal of women in power.

Documentarian Ken Burns is back, this time focusing on “The American Revolution” with a six-part series that takes a deep dive into how 13 British colonies took on the British Empire and won their independence. He’s enlisted a who’s who of actors, including those of American, British, African and Native American descent, to use their vocal talents bring to life the memories of people who were actually there. So listen for Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Kenneth Branagh, Claire Danes, Samuel L. Jackson, Jon Proudstar and host of others to help tell the story of America’s beginnings.
Taylor Swift is a complete force of nature, as she keeps proving over and over again. With this six-part documentary series, she brings her legion of fans into her private world, showing just what happened in her life as The Eras Tour went on for almost two years, in 51 cities across the globe. The highest grossing music tour of all time, it was also the time that she met Travis Kelce and began the relationship that changed her world. This series is bound to break records, too, as Swifties around the world tune in to see what happened off the Eras stages.

If you like modern theater, you may very well like this version of “Waiting For Godot” at The Hudson Theatre. Like “A Dolls House” at the same theater, Jamie Lloyd put “Godot” in the modern. Like Ibsen’s “Doll House”, Lloyd takes Beckett’s play and brings it into today’s times... no visible tree, only a large cone-like set (Soutra Gilmour). The set to me signifies endless time.

Much like “Dolls House”, the lighting is dark, maybe too dark. Lloyd is most likely portraying Estragon’s (Keanu Reeves) and Vladimir’s (Alex Winter) darkness in life, their hopelessness. The direction, as well as the lighting (Jon Clark) bring forth the lost hope of these two men.
“Godot” in and of itself is not for everybody. Many of the diatribes that fill the Hudson Theatre go on in an existentialist/ absurdist vernacular. If you don’t listen carefully, it can be a long two hours for an audience member.
Unlike “Sunset Blvd” which Jamie Lloyd also directed, Reeves and Winter have difficulty holding the leads. In “Sunset”, the leads commanded their roles. It became evident that the “Bill and Ted” actors were out of their depth when Lucky (Zaynn Arora) and Pozzo (Brandon J. Dirden) appeared. The two played their roles flawlessly with high emotion. Reeves and Winter both had trouble bringing the roles that they play to perfection.
At times, “Godot” gets slow and has many audience members catching up on their sleep. Coupled with the darkness of lighting and set, the slowness tests the audience’s patience. Add the modern take, and many traditional theater lovers will find this play downright boring. To the modern theater goer, I think they will find this play exceptional on all levels, sans the inconsistent acting.

In the heart of Tribeca, One Art Space stands as a bridge between New York’s artistic past and its ever-evolving creative future. Celebrated for spotlighting both icons and emerging talent, the gallery embodies the city’s vibrant spirit—bold, inclusive, and unapologetically original.
Nestled in the heart of Tribeca, One Art Space has become one of downtown Manhattan’s most dynamic galleries, bridging the gap between the avant-garde and the collectible. Known for its 1,700-square-foot glass-fronted exhibition space, the gallery has hosted a diverse roster of artists, from international contemporary innovators to New York street legends since its opening in 2011.
At the helm are MaryAnn Giella McCulloh and Mei Fung, whose partnership brings a distinctive blend of business acumen, artistic sensibility, and curatorial vision. MaryAnn Giella McCulloh, sister of the late gallery founder Dan Giella, grew up surrounded by creativity. Her father, Joe Giella, was one of the original Batman comic illustrators, an influence that shaped her appreciation for both high and popular art. Her career in business development and fine art sales uniquely equips her to steer the gallery in an era when visibility and authenticity are equally vital.
Co-owner Mei Fung, who collaborated closely with Dan Giella, continues to honor his mission: to make art approachable and community driven. Together, the pair have maintained One Art Space as a respected launchpad for emerging artists and a venue that welcomes collectors, critics, and the casually curious alike.
One Art Space opened in May 2011 in the heart of Tribeca and has been a distinctive venue for both museum-caliber and emerging artists for 15 years. Located at 23 Warren Street in Tribeca, New York City, the gallery occupies a versatile ground-level space with a glass façade, offering natural light and an inviting view from the street.
The gallery’s programming mixes storied figures in New York’s art scene like Al Diaz, world-famous street artists like Shepard Fairey, abstract contemporary painters like Andrew Salgado, and an upcoming solo exhibition of work by Purvis Young, whose paintings are held in institutions like The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, as well as in the collections of some of the highest-end buyers in the art market.

One Art Space’s mission is to create a place where the giants of art history and the visionaries of art’s future come together in one space.
The gallery’s recent exhibitions such as “The Authenticity,” curated by Cope2 and featuring Shepard Fairey and Danny Cortes, reflect its dual commitment to serious art and street-level culture. Exhibitions are often accompanied by public receptions, artist talks, and collaborations that bring together audiences across the cultural spectrum.
“Art should be felt, not just seen,” MaryAnn Giella McCulloh says. “At One Art Space, we want people to walk in and feel part of the story. When selecting an artist, we seek individuals with controversial careers with mystery, plus a compelling human-interest story to pull us in with curiosity such as Purvis Young, Shepard Fairey, and Al Diaz. Their works offer a rich narrative that deeply engages viewers. Recognizing these aspects can help us gain a fuller appreciation and to understand their significance and legacy.”
With more than a decade of impact, One Art Space continues to embody the pulse of the New York art world—diverse, daring, and defiantly original. Their next exhibition is An Empire Has Fallen by Al Diaz, running from October 30th – November 10th, 2025. When it comes to traveling with your best-fur friend, the stakes are high — not just for comfort, but for safety. Enter the TAVO Pets Maeve Iso Wind Pet Car Seat: a premium, crash-tested, travel-ready solution for pets who share the back-seat journey. From the moment you set it up in the vehicle you know this isn’t your standard pet carrier; it’s a statement piece in both design and protection.
What gives TAVO Pets its unique pedigree is its lineage. The brand was launched by the same design and engineering team behind Nuna Baby, a well-known luxury child-transport brand. TAVO themselves state that they are “from the makers of Nuna” and leverage that legacy in creating “industrychanging pet protection”. In effect, this means the Maeve Iso Wind carries over safety philosophies originally developed for human children — only now repurposed for pampered pets.
The Maeve Iso Wind delivers a compelling blend of comfort and rigorous protection. First, it is crash-tested and designed to attach securely to your vehicle: the integrated ISOFIX latches lock directly into your car’s seat belt anchor points, enabling a base-free installation. The shell is made of energy-absorbing EPP foam and includes side-impact protection padding. The product feels “very sturdy… even with one of my hefty boys inside” and that “the side impact protection gives me peace of mind.” Plus, the built-in fan system (USB-powered) ensures pets stay cool, even in warmer weather — a rare luxury in the pet travel category.

Beyond safety, the Maeve Iso Wind wears its luxury status comfortably. Vegan-leather accents, UPF 50+ canopy fabric, machine-washable liners (two styles included for seasonal variation), peek-a-boo windows and mesh ventilation all combine to make this more than just functional. I would say it “feels like its quality made… my pet LOVES it and seems to feel safe and secure.” That said — as with many luxury items — size and price merit consideration. I must point out the footprint may span two back-seats in smaller cars.
If you frequently drive with your pet, especially on longer trips or in warm climates, and place safety and style at the top of your list, the Maeve Iso Wind is a strong contender. Its premium pricing is offset by durable materials, high safety standards (including design lineage from Nuna), and a level of comfort many lesser products simply don’t match.
The TAVO Pets Maeve Iso Wind Pet Car Seat sets a new benchmark for pet travel: one where luxury doesn’t undermine safety, but elevates it. With its strong engineering roots, high-end materials, rigorous crash testing, and thoughtful features like climate control and washable liners, it gives pet owners both peace of mind and an indulgent ride for their animals. It’s not merely a carrier — it’s a statement of how seriously you take your pet’s comfort and security on every journey.

AMission of Compassion and Change.
As President and Founder of St. Huckleberry Animal Fund, established in 2021, my mission and common purpose is creating a network of hope and a kinder world for all animals and the people who love them. By merging business savvy with philanthropy, our goal is to expedite direct pet aid to the community in storm-ravaged Lake Charles, Louisiana, whilst driving long-term systemic change for animal welfare advancement and transforming pet healthcare nationwide.
INSPIRED BY HUCKLEBERRY
The organization is named in honor of my beloved kitten, Huckleberry, who was the target of a hate crime on July 29, 2018. This personal tragedy fueled me to become more politically engaged—working with policymakers and promoting the humane treatment of all animals. The St. Huckleberry Animal Fund is building a global movement to end animal cruelty and a motivating force for good on behalf of all animals everywhere.
St. Huckleberry Animal Fund operates as a rare and highly effective self-funded model that builds partnerships with top-tier U.S. pet companies. Through these strategic collaborations, I broker large-scale premium pet food and supply donations that are distributed at free events to assist animals in need and pet parents struggling due to inflation, natural disasters, and the rising cost of veterinary care across the country.

Our next major initiative—St. Huckleberry Animal Fund Hospitals with Pet Health Insurance—will be the first of its kind in the country. These hospitals will help address the ongoing animal overpopulation crisis whilst providing financial relief and access to quality medical care for beloved pets. Additionally, The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center in New York City implements the pet rx card program for their pet patients and clients, extending our mission to promote affordable and compassionate care.
It’s the St. Huckleberry Animal Fund mission—and my unbreakable bond and true-blue love for all animals— that powers me through each day to fight the good fight.
This is one from the heart, pure and simple. With love, from my furry family to yours,

Preventing emergency veterinary visits during the holidays is essential. During family gatherings, accidents involving pets can occur, such as ingesting harmful products, eating food given by a young child, or accidentally dropping food. Additionally, doors may inadvertently be left open when loved ones arrive, and even the plants your guests bring as gifts can turn a joyful gathering into a stressful one.
Although there are no specific statistics on pet injuries in the United States each year due to a lack of comprehensive insurance analysis, several dangers may be present in your home that could harm your pets.
To gain insights on keeping pets safe during the holidays, New York Lifestyles spoke with Dr. John Campanile, a veterinarian with 40 years of experience at the Animal Hospital of Brooklyn.
NYL: What is the number of holiday-related injuries that occur each year during the holiday season?
JC: Throughout my years as a veterinarian, from Halloween until Christmas, we see well over 50 holiday-related injuries per holiday season. Unfortunately, the last three months of the year may bring many concerns and worries for both clients and their pets. Even though the holiday season is meant to bring family and friends closer together, we like to spoil our pets more than usual. Make sure to take the necessary steps to protect your animal. Make sure your vet information is on the fridge, not in that drawer full of papers you never open. Keep the poison control phone number handy and research your local 24/7 emergency vet clinic.

NYL: What foods can dogs and cats safely eat at Thanksgiving? Which foods should be avoided?
JC: I wouldn’t say spoiling your pets is a bad idea, but sometimes it could become more dangerous than you think. Some foods are okay to give your pet in small amounts. If you know your pet is allergic to a specific type of food, make sure that what you are giving your pet does not contain that food. No matter what, do not give your fur-child any chocolate. Any food that contains Xylitol can be dangerous and cause liver failure. Xylitol is commonly used as a sugar substitute in sugar-free foods. Sometimes it is also found in peanut butter. Raisins, macadamia nuts, garlic, onions, avocados, grapes, and olives are also foods to avoid giving to your pet. Raw meat and bones are something else I would avoid giving.
According to PetMD, petmd.com “Cooked bones: Cooked bones splinter more easily than raw bones, so they can present a choking hazard and break into small shards that can pierce the digestive tract. Small bones: Small bones come with higher risks because it’s easier for your dog to choke on them. Round bones: Your dog is also more likely to choke on round bones that can get stuck in their windpipe. Round bones can also get stuck around the lower jaw and may require vet removal.
NYL: Should guardians isolate their pets when having company? Should they inform their guests in advance to be cautious about what they feed him/her?
JC: When it comes to isolating your animal for the holidays, that decision is up to the owners. If you know you have a high-anxiety dog or cat, then isolating them may be the best thing to do. If your house has a revolving door or people opening and closing it, consider isolating your pet, especially if you have a smaller animal that can slip through a door crack. Always let your guests know ahead of time what they can and cannot feed your animal.
NYL: What is your best advice for keeping pets safe during the holiday season?
JC: The best advice I can give pet parents during the holiday season is to stay vigilant. Between running around and getting last-minute costumes or presents to those who forgot the pastries on the counter in the bakery, it only takes one second for an accident to happen. Make sure your pet is microchipped, and make sure that the information is correct and up to date. If your pet isn’t microchipped, make sure they wear a collar with a tag with your information. Store foods that you know are toxic in tight containers and out-of-reach spaces. Pay attention to things that may fall on the floor, like candy. Just because we enjoy trick or treating doesn’t mean your pet will. There are times when we adults may need a drink or something to take the edge off the holiday craziness. Do not give your pet anything without consulting your veterinarian first. Be mindful of the decorations that you use. Also, be aware of poisonous plants. Some petfriendly foods include Pumpkin Puree, sweet potatoes and regular potatoes, carrots, peanut butter, apples and bananas, blueberries, and Greek yogurt. Some cooked meats are safe too, including chicken, turkey, ham, and beef. Avoid giving raw food and avoid seasoning.

NYL: Many people often surprise others with pets as gifts; however, the recipient may not realize that this decision involves a lifelong commitment. What would you advise someone considering gifting a pet?
JC: If you or someone you know is thinking of giving an animal to someone as a gift, there are plenty of things to keep in mind. Having a pet is like having a child —it is a full-time job. Granted, you get a life-long friend; however, nothing stays young forever. Some people say that the animal is so cute because it’s so tiny. Will it still be cute when it weighs 80 pounds and tries to sit on your lap? Consider that person’s everyday life routine. Will they have time to care for the animal? Will the animal be left alone all day? If that person likes to take numerous vacations, who will take care of the pet while they are gone? Just as we need to eat and use the restroom daily, so do they. Will they be able to take them on walks or clean out a litter box. Being a pet parent is a rewarding experience, but it also comes with great responsibility. When you decide to bring a pet into your home, you are not just gaining a companion; you are committing to their wellbeing and happiness for their entire life.

Many people dedicate their lives to being self-employed and thriving through innovative ideas. However, what does it really take to succeed and stand out?
Thirty-nine-year-old Rahsaan Harris, AKA “Dizzy Brown,” thinks outside the box when it comes to ways to contribute to his community. Whether he is listening to community members as a liaison for the Opportunity Hub (a non-profit organization he works for) or building the next best event to help the community shine, he is constantly implementing ways to help his neighbors live a better quality of life. Born and raised in Spring Creek Towers in Brooklyn, N. Y., formerly known as Starrett City, Brown credits his hometown with inspiring him.
“When I was little, my mom started calling me Dizzy because I would often tell her, ‘I feel dizzy’ whenever I did not feel well. She affectionately called me her “Dizzy baby,” and this nickname became a lasting part of my identity. As I grew older, I decided to add Brown to my name to give it more meaning and identity, transforming my childhood nickname into my identity today.”
If you ask him, he attributes his contributions to his parents, Alicia and Roger. Brown was raised by his widowed mother, who was an assistant manager at a shelter in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Unfortunately, he lost his father, a community activist and professor, at the age of three. Brown explained, “Both my parents had a purpose bigger than themselves, and I carry that same energy today in everything I do. My mother showed me what service looks like, and my father showed me what impact looks like. Together, their examples have inspired everything I do today —from community events to youth programs to business ventures. I’m just continuing their legacy in my own way, using my creativity and platform to help people the same way they did.”
With the help of his community and a team he gathers for each event, Brown organizes impactful affairs that make a difference and inspire others. For Brown, helping the community is not just an endeavor; it is a personal commitment. “I am my community,” he states. The same people who nurtured him are the ones to whom he strives to give back. He continues, “This isn’t just about throwing events; it’s about building a legacy and perpetuating a cycle of support that enriches lives.”

Brown has been instrumental in organizing events that foster community spirit and togetherness. Along with the help of the Opportunity Hub, some notable events include “Can You Hear Me Now, a wellness initiative providing free hearing screenings and health education, which was shown on News 12 Brooklyn. The Back vs. Forth Basketball Game is a neighborhood tradition that started decades ago and is kept alive through friendly competition and camaraderie. “Holiday Photoshoot,” where families come together to capture joyful memories. This free community event aims to ensure that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to create lasting holiday memories in a supportive environment. Lastly, “Dad’s Day Pass Out” celebrated local fathers with giveaways, appreciation, and recognition of the vital roles that they play in the lives of their children and loved ones. As a father, this event was dear to his heart.
“I have known Dizzy Brown for his entire life and have watched him grow into a compassionate man and father. He is a community leader who never forgets his roots and always seeks to give back to the community. He prioritizes raising his son and serves as a mentor to my 26-year-old son, demonstrating motivation, drive, and tenacity.” –
Marley
E. Ganthier, childhood friend
Brown views entrepreneurship as a means of ownership, focusing on transforming ideas into reality and creating opportunities. He believes that the essence of entrepreneurship lies in uplifting those around you, not just in personal gain. He challenges the stigma associated with low-income communities, asserting, “We’re not just Section 8; we’re talented, smart, and resilient.” His message encourages recognition of the potential within every community. For young Black men, Brown aims to be a consistent leader, emphasizing responsibility and genuineness. “I’m not perfect, but I show up — for my son, for my people, for my business,” he states, hoping to inspire others. He believes in leading with humanity, saying, “People remember how you treat them.” He aims to build genuine community connections and bridge these gaps. Ultimately, Brown is purpose-driven: “Everything I do — from events to ideas — has a mission. I’m not chasing fame; I’m building a legacy.” His motto, “Keep it real, build it right, and never stop giving back,” guides his journey and fosters a positive impact on the world.

When autumn descends upon New York City, few events capture its spirit of grandeur and creativity like Leesa Rowland and Larry Wohl’s legendary Masquerade Ball. A fixture of the city’s social calendar, the annual affair is a breathtaking fusion of art, fashion, and fantasy — where every costume tells a story, and every guest becomes part of a living work of art. This year’s theme, “Midnight at the Met,” took the celebration to new heights, transforming the night into a spectacle of elegance, theater, and imagination.
A Night to Remember: “Midnight at the Met” Leesa Rowland and Larry Wohl set a dazzling new benchmark for New York’s Fall season with their annual celebration, “Midnight at the Met.” The highly anticipated event transformed Chelsea Industrial into a shimmering world of fantasy where art, fashion, and performance intertwined in spectacular form.
The daughter of an artist and college professor, Leesa Rowland grew up in Austin, Texas where she studied broadcast journalism and later became a classically trained actress at the world-renowned Stella Adler Studio in Los Angeles.
Beyond her extensive career and credits as a film and television actress, she is also well-known for her work as a philanthropist and animal rights activist. A vegan dedicated to healthy eating, she has been active with the national nonprofit organization Last Chance for Animals since 1989 and is the president of the New York non-profit group Animal Ashram, which she founded in 2013.
As she continues to develop her work as a philanthropist and involvement with these and other charities while exploring new dramatic roles, Leesa recently began adding something else exciting to her sizzle reel: comedienne. A lifelong sitcom fan, she has been taking comedy classes with Richard Kline — the actor best known as Larry on the late-1970s classic Three’s Company — in Los Angeles. She has also been studying improv and sketch comedy in New York at the famed Upright Citizen’s Brigade whose alumni include Amy Poehler, Horatio Sands, Matt Besser, Matt Walsh and Ian McKay.

A show-stopping performance by Luke K who gave a stellar musical performance as “Cher” brought roaring applause, while a live painter created a masterpiece in real time with her movements becoming part of the performance itself. Elsewhere, interactive art pieces and sculptural works infused the space with a sense of wonder and irreverent wit, balancing elegance with playfulness.
Notable attendees included: Leesa Rowland, Larry Wohl, Marc Bouwer, Pedro Oberto, Hank Stampfl, Ramona Singer, Noreen Donovan, James Brynes, Nicole Noonan, Steven Knobel, Sandra Ripert, Gianni Musso, Stewart F. Lane, Bonnie Comley, Cindy Guyer, Niki Haskell, Marco Maranghello, Jose Castelo Branco, Kyle Farmery, Alan Wilzig, Sir Ivan, Paola and Arnie Rosenshein, Ann Van Ness, Sharon Bush and Bob Murray, Peter Thomas Roth, Lauren Day Roberts, Andrew Molen, Elyse Slaine, Lucia Hwong Gordon, Pamela Morgan, Amy Ralston Povah, Wendy Federman, Missy and Dr. Jerry Lubliner, Sergio Zapata and Paul Margolin, Les and Katarina Feldman, Cristina Fontanelli, Jane Pontarelli, James and Elvira Grau, Maria and Ken Fishel, Diana Mahrach, Carmen D’Alessio, Cheri Kaufman and Bill Sclight.

WORDS OF COURAGE AND COMMITMENT
“We know how important it is to invest in the solutions that transform, not the solutions that are a Band-Aid,” said Ana L. Oliveira, President and CEO of The New York Women’s Foundation. “Because courage is as contagious as fear. It is a choice which one we want to be inoculated with and share with others. I know you choose courage because you are here. We at The Foundation do too. We will continue in our relentless persistence of funding solutions that are by and for women and genderexpansive people.”

The holiday season in New York City feels like stepping into a living snow globe. From the twinkling lights of Rockefeller Center to the charming winter markets at Bryant Park, the city glows with festive cheer. I love strolling past the dazzling department store windows, sipping hot cocoa with the air filled with Christmas music. Whether ice skating beneath the skyline or watching the Rockettes kick up their heels, NYC truly captures the magic of the holidays. Here’s a list of things to do and places to go this holiday season.
