Palm lights twinkling, sea air, and a calendar full of good ideas. Fairmont
The Palm is setting out its stall for a feel-good holiday run with classic comforts and polished celebrations. If you are the planner in the group, here is everything you need to lock in now, from a no-stress roast to a tree-lit moment the kids will remember.
Start with the Turkey Takeaway. Available from October 9 to January 8, it is the easiest way to bring a centrepiece home without juggling oven timers. Birds come in two sizes, paired with the trimmings you actually want on the table. Collection is from Mashrabiya Lounge between 11am to 9pm daily, boxed and ready for your dining room handoff. Pricing starts from Dhs650 for the smaller turkey or from Dhs850 for the larger option, which feeds a crowd and saves you an afternoon of prep. Order ahead to secure your preferred day and pick-up time.
The season officially starts with the Tree Lighting on Friday December 6 at Mashrabiya Lounge, running 4pm to 6pm. Expect carols, hot chocolate energy, and that first switch-on moment that makes even seasoned Dubai residents feel a bit like kids. It is a simple, charming way to mark the start of December, and a useful excuse to gather friends before diaries fill up.
For a slower ritual, book the Festive Afternoon Tea from November 21 to January 7, 12pm to 5pm. The pastry team leans into classic flavours with a pretty, seasonal spin, layered between finger sandwiches and warm scones. Prices start from Dhs225 and scale to from Dhs425 for the premium set, making it as suitable for a quiet catch-up as it is for a celebratory treat. Ask for a terrace table if the weather plays nice.
Christmas week brings the headliners.
Christmas Eve Dinner on Tuesday December 24 runs 6.30pm to 10.30pm at Flow Kitchen, with indoor and outdoor seating and package tiers to match your table’s mood, including soft, house and premium options. The brief is generous buffets, a relaxed dress code, and enough festive staples to keep every age happy. On Christmas Day, the Flow
Kitchen Brunch serves 1pm to 4pm with roasts, seafood stations, live carving, kids’ activities and a band to keep the afternoon moving. Packages mirror the Eve structure so you can choose how you want to celebrate. These two services are the first to sell out each year, so early bookings are smart. Between dates, the hotel keeps things easy. Parking is on site, prams are welcome, and the team is practiced at seating multigenerational tables without fuss. If you are staying nearby, it is an effortless base for holiday meet-ups that do not require crossing town. If you are coming in from elsewhere, pair your booking with a walk along the Palm promenade and call it a day well spent.
HOW TO BOOK:
Reserve online through Fairmont
The Palm’s dining pages, or contact the hotel’s reservations team to secure your table, brunch package, or turkey order. If you are aiming for terrace seats or a specific pick-up slot, mention it at the time of booking.

2025 | WHATSON.AE
HELLO NOVEMBER!
The air has changed and you can feel it on your skin the moment you step outside. The city exhales, terraces fill, and suddenly the week has more sparkle than your calendar can reasonably hold. I have been waiting for this. A fully experienced Dubai winter. Windows open in the morning. Evening runs in the neighbourhood without bargaining with a treadmill.
We built this issue for the season you have been promising yourself. Our cover story is a big one. It gathers the parties, festivals and DJ sets that will carry you through the rest of 2025. Think of it as a map with many bright pins. If you are the friend who plans the group chat, it belongs in your bag. If you are the friend who always says yes, it belongs on your fridge. I lost count of how many times I wanted to circle a date and write ‘see you there.’
Winter in Dubai is never just one mood. It is seven this year. We call them the seven moods of winter and they belong to the city as much as they belong to you. There is the wellness seeker who greets sunrise on a paddleboard. The party goer who treats a Friday as a small festival. The late luncher who never rushes dessert. The sunrise chaser. The planner who still leaves room for surprise. If you recognise yourself in more than one, you are doing it right.
The Dubai Fitness Challenge returns and brings that gentle nudge we secretly enjoy. Ten thousand steps that turn into a new habit. A class you try because a friend promised it would be fun and it actually was. I will be out there too, running in the evenings when the light softens and the city feels kind. If you see someone who looks suspiciously like an editor counting steps and grinning at a cool breeze, say hello.
I also escaped to the beach and it felt like a small holiday. Summersalt reminded me why a day by the water still resets the week. I watched the sun slide down and decided that more days should end like that. Highly scientific research.
For the travel lovers, I returned to Doha, the city of perfect balance, still holds my heart, and every visit reminds me how close a proper reset can be.
So here we are, at the start of the best stretch of the year. The temperatures dip, the calendar fills, and the city invites you to say yes. To music under open skies. To a long walk that becomes a habit. To a beach day that steals an afternoon. To a quick flight that feels like a week away. I will be out there with you, chasing the glow that makes Dubai in winter feel like it is working very hard on our behalf. See you on a dance floor. See you on the track. See you at sundown when the sky turns every plan into a good idea.
Liam Joyce

Through MY EYES DJ Dean Curtis
THE UAE ACCORDING TO...
Each month we ask residents to share a guide to the UAE through their eyes – from their must-try restaurants and standout attractions to favoruite staycations and hidden gems. This month we chat to DJ Dean Curtis, ahead of his UNTOLD Dubai gig this month. Since 2010, DJ Dean Curtis has been at the heart of Dubai’s evolving music scene, bringing his signature sound to some of the city’s top venues. Now, as Deputy Content Director at Virgin Radio, Dean not only influences the city’s nightlife but also curates its sound across the airwaves.
“Konjiki Hototogisu in Mall of the Emirates. Best noodles I’ve ever had and its backed up with a Bib Gourmand award from Michelin. My go to is the spicy chicken ramen. “
“The pool at Isola Ristorante. Such a nice pool that’s chill vibes, good service, nice views and an amazing menu. Try the foccacia pizza for a life changing bread moment.”
“My monthly night for millennials is Please Leave By 10. We start the party at 6pm and at 10pm the lights come on and you are told to leave – it has been sold out every weekend, so there is clearly a demand for it! And this time of year Kris Fade and I perform at Untold Dubai as Cancelled Music, catch us on stage on the Nov 8.”
“The OG Sandy Beach Hotel and Resort, Fujairah. It’s a pretty rustic experience but it’s nice to feel grounded and I love snorkling around Snoopy Island all day long. Plus you can take all your own food and have a BBQ at your chalet. Feels ‘normal’ after the city life.”
“Scarlet’s German Bakery & Patisserie. Some of the best bread and cakes in the city. I always grab a sandwich for lunch from there when I drop my daughter to nursery. It’s incredible quality and only Dhs16.”
“As the nice weather is here, I enjoy going for pool days with my family. We have Privelee, so we like exploring different pools each weekend, but an all-time favourite is Anantara on the Palm for unlimited chill vibes surrounded by a bit of greenery.”
Your guide to every party worth going to

THE 7 MOODS OF A DUBAI WINTER ONE CITY, SEVEN IDENTITIES
YBecause when winter rolls into Dubai, the city doesn’t change… It just shows up in new moods
WORDS: LANA DU
ou know what “winter” means in many places: snow piling up, scarves wrapped tight, heavy boots, and hibernation mode. But in Dubai? It’s different. While the world moves indoors, Dubai moves outdoors. The city finds its rhythm, mornings are crisp (but not frozen), afternoons warm just enough, evenings perfect for being out. Best of all: no matter who you are or what mood you’re in, this winter can be made for you. Calm, adventure, food, creativity – or all of the above – Dubai winter hands you the options through seven moods. You might just find yourself in one (or a few).
THE FAMILY ADVENTURER
If you’ve got kids, nieces, nephews, or you’re just in adventure mode, winter in Dubai is the time to explore.
THE WELLNESS SEEKER
If calm is your scene, this is your season. Mornings can be anything from beach yoga and sunrise meditation in the desert to a full-on fitness and recovery experience, holistic treatments, and spa days.
Outdoor yoga with a view
Start your day with a gently guided session at HWH Studio, located inside the iconic Burj Al Arab. Their signature Sunset Flow takes place on a private terrace with panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf, making it one of the most serene and exclusive yoga experiences in the city.
Location: Jumeirah Burj Al Arab @hwhstudiodubai
Train and recover at SIRO
For a well-rounded mix of fitness and recovery, SIRO One Za’abeel is your onestop hub. This performance-led hotel is built around holistic wellness, offering personalised training programmes, rooftop workout sessions, state-of-the-art recovery suites, cryotherapy, and even sleep optimisation.
Location: One Za’abeel Tower, Za’abeel 1 @sirohotels
Reset in the desert at Bab Al Shams
Looking to unplug without going too far? Just a short drive from the city, Bab Al Shams is a luxury desert retreat tucked into the dunes of Al Marmoom. It’s the perfect wellness escape. The spa and hammam are at the heart of its wellness offering, where treatments are combined with stillness, guided yoga, and meditation sessions. You can cool off in the infinity pool or spend your time moving between nourishing rituals and laid-back dining.
Location: Al Qudra Road, opposite Endurance City, Mugatrah, Dubai @babalshamshotel
Visit Dubai Safari Park to see animals in their natural-style habitats or cool off at Wild Wadi Waterpark with its iconic slides and wave pool at the foot of Burj Al Arab. For a desert escape, book a red dune safari with Platinum Heritage, known for its conservation-focused experiences and vintage Land Rovers. Want to take it up a notch? Head to Hatta for zip-lining, hiking, and kayaking. For an evening out, Global Village is back for Season 30 with rides, shows, food stalls, and cultural pavilions from around the world. @dubaisafari; @wildwadiwaterpark; @platinumheritage; @globalvillageuae

THE CREATIVE SOUL
Want inspiration, artistry, or something to feed your inner spark? Winter brings more art, galleries, and festivals – creative ways to see the city in new frames. Start at Alserkal Avenue, where exhibitions, installations, and pop-ups fill converted warehouses with new energy. Dubai Design Week (Nov 4–9) takes over d3 with large-scale showcases, talks, and interactive workshops. For something slower, visit Jameel Arts Centre in Jaddaf, a serene space with rotating exhibitions and a waterfront sculpture garden. Go on photo walks at sunrise in the desert or sunset over the Marina or Palm when the city looks its most cinematic. @dubaidesignweek; @alserkalavenue; @jameelartscentre
THE FOODIE
Dine alfresco at Dubai’s newest spots
Book a table at MEI at Jumeirah Mina Al Salam for refined Chinese and Japanese dishes served on a terrace with views of Burj Al Arab. Carbone at Atlantis, The Royal brings New York-style Italian to Dubai, overlooking the water fountains. And Iliana at Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab offers authentic Greek in the city, with a new rooftop opening and stunning views. Locations: Jumeirah Mina Al Salam, Atlantis, The Royal, Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab @mei.dxb; @carbonedxb; @ilianadubai
Eat your way around Global Village
Back for its 30th season, Global Village is one of the best things to do in Dubai during winter and a foodie destination. While it’s known for culture, performances, and country pavilions, the food scene is worth the trip alone. Grab street food from around the world inside the pavilions, explore Asian bites at the Floating Market, and head to the new Dessert District for everything from kunafa to mochi.
Location: Wadi Al Safa 4 @globalvillageuae
THE OCEAN LOVER
Winter in Dubai is prime time to get on the water. Calm seas and mild temperatures make it perfect for boat trips and all kinds of water sports. Spend your day cruising the coastline, hopping between beaches, or paddleboarding in the quiet mornings. For something more active, try jet skiing, kayaking, or even sport fishing. Sunset cruises with good food and music are a weekend staple, too.
Cruise the coast with Xclusive Yachts

GAME ON!
Experience the ultimate party at the Emirates Dubai 7s, with more thrilling sports action than ever – and an epic music lineup that’s set to light up the field
WORDS: LAURA COUGHLIN
It’s that time of year again when the Emirates Dubai 7s storms into town. From November 28 to 30, The Sevens Stadium will transform into a carnival of sport, sound, and style, a three-day celebration where world-class athletes, superstar DJs, and festivalgoers in outrageous costumes unite under the desert sun.
Now in its 55th year, the Emirates Dubai 7s has evolved from a rugby tournament into a full-blown lifestyle festival so whether you’re here for the tackles, the tracks, or simply the tacos, this is Dubai’s most unmissable weekend of the year.
THE MUSIC
The 7s has always been about the soundtrack as much as the sport, and this year’s lineup is set to be massive. Get ready to dance across two stages as Tinie Tempah, Sean Paul, Shaggy, and DJ EZ bring the party to Dubai’s biggest outdoor bash.
On Saturday, November 29, British rap superstar Tinie Tempah headlines Beats on 2, performing hits like Written in the Stars, Pass Out and Frisky. Meanwhile, Frequency on 8 hosts a double act of dancehall royalty – Sean Paul and Shaggy – serving up pure nostalgia
with Temperature, It Wasn’t Me, Boombastic, and No Lie
On Sunday, the legendary DJ EZ – widely hailed as the godfather of UK garage – closes out the weekend on Beats on 2 with a masterclass in mixing, guaranteed to shake the sand from your shoes. Then, over at Frequency on 8, crowd-favourite FISHER takes the stage for a high-octane set packed with his biggest anthems, including Losing It (nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 2019 Grammys), You Little Beauty, Atmosphere, and his euphoric remix of Bob Sinclar’s classic World, Hold On
Between the main stages, roving performers, after-dark DJ sets, and countless pop-up bars, the vibe is part Glastonbury, part beach club, and 100 per cent Dubai.

THE SPORT
Sure, the music’s epic, but the Emirates Dubai 7s was born from sport, and it remains the beating heart of the weekend. Across the stadium, pitches, and courts, five competitions unfold in fast-paced glory. Here’s what’s in play this year:
RUGBY SEVENS
At the centre of it all is the HSBC SVNS World Series, where the world’s best men’s and women’s teams go head-to-head in the most thrilling version of rugby there is, seven-minute halves, blistering speed, and nothing but open field. Dubai has hosted the opening leg of the series since 1999, and this year the stakes are even higher as teams kick off the 2025/2026 HSBC SVNS season en route to the LA 2028 Olympics. Expect powerhouse nations like Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, and Great Britain to bring their A-game, and the atmosphere on Pitch 1 to be electric. Last year, Australia’s women claimed a record fifth consecutive title, while Fiji’s men lifted the Dubai trophy for the first time since 2015. This year it’s anyone’s game, and every tackle, try, and conversion will have the crowd on its feet.
NETBALL
Since debuting at the 7s in 2014, Netball has grown into one of the festival’s mostloved fixtures. Across four courts, teams from around the world battle it out in multiple divisions, from elite to social, cheered on by crowds enjoying the sport’s fast pace and fierce rivalries. It’s also the perfect spot to catch some sunshine, sip a cold drink, and watch Dubai’s netball community in its element.
DRESS UP!
Let’s not forget the 7s’ most beloved tradition: fancy dress. This year’s theme, chosen by listeners of Dubai 92, is Superheroes and Villains, so expect to see everyone from Spider-Man to Harley Quinn in the crowd.

PADEL
Dubai’s newest sporting obsession makes its 7s return this year. Rebound, the official Padel tournament, takes place on five purpose-built courts right at the heart of the festival. In partnership with Viya Padel, the event welcomes players of all levels, from first-time duos to competitive athletes. Each Padel entry includes full three-day festival access, so after smashing your way through a match (or watching friends do it), you can dive straight into the rest of the 7s fun. Expect high energy, good vibes, and plenty of friendly competition.
CRICKET
Meanwhile, cricket 7s brings big hits, fast wickets, and plenty of flair to the Emirates Dubai 7s. Played in an ultra-quick seven-aside format, it’s like Twenty20 on espresso. The festival’s world-class cricket ovals will once again host men’s, women’s, and
mixed competitions, plus appearances from international players.
FITNESS: WODON3
Finally, there’s WODON3, the festival’s high-octane CrossFit-style competition that combines serious workouts with serious atmosphere. Over three days, teams will lift, sprint, jump, and sweat it out on Pitch 3, surrounded by the cheers of festivalgoers and the pulse of the live music.
FUN FOR THE KIDS
The Emirates Dubai 7s is proudly family-friendly, with three zones packed with fun, interactive, and safe entertainment for little ones. From inflatable obstacle courses to creative workshops, sporting masterclasses, and themed activities (last year’s jungle theme was a hit), there’s plenty to keep the young ones entertained from 9am to 7pm. Friday is officially Family Friday, with extra activities and opportunities for kids to get on the pitch and learn from the pros. Parents can relax knowing the site is thoughtfully set up for families with shaded areas, food stalls with kidfriendly options, and plenty of space to roam.

SUMMERSALT
A beach day done the the Dubai way
The Spot
A blue-sky day folds over Dubai, the water is behaving itself, and there is that soft sea breeze that makes the city feel like it is welcoming you in. Summersalt sits at the point where pool and shoreline meet, tucked along the Madinat Jumeirah stretch with the Burj Al Arab filling the frame like a friendly giant. Paths curl through palms to a sandy terrace, parasols throw generous shade, and rows of cushioned loungers seem to suggest that time is elastic here. It is the sort of setting that persuades even the most determined multitasker to slow to the rhythm of the tide.
The Vibe
There is an effortless gloss to the day. Music drifts rather than competes, conversations float between sunbeds, and the staff move with a quiet choreography that keeps everything feeling calm. As afternoon deepens, the colour of the light grows warmer and people start
to settle in for the gentle theatre of sunset. The beach club takes on that happy hum of a place where everyone has decided they are in no rush to be anywhere else.
The Food and Drinks
The menu reads like a collection of beachside cravings polished by a confident kitchen. We order the lobster sandwiches and they arrive generously filled, the sweetness of the meat lifted by a bright dressing and soft, fresh bread that yields just enough. Calamari lands at the table still singing from the fryer, the coating crisp, the interior tender, the kind of plate that disappears while you are telling yourself you will have only one more. Drinks are refreshing and clean, the citrus-led coolers and classic cocktails built for heat and long afternoons, with thoughtful alcohol-free options that keep the table feeling included.
The Service
Attentive without fuss, present without hovering, thats the Summersalt way. Towels are straightened as if by magic, water is topped before glasses run dry, and suggestions feel like the good advice of someone who actually spends time here. Timing is handled with care: plates arrive when you are ready for them, not when it is convenient for the pass, and there is an easy charm to the way the team steers the day.
What to Order
Begin with the calamari to set the tone, then share the lobster sandwiches and add the chicken as a generous anchor for the table. Pair with something bright and cold from the drinks list, and if you are staying through golden hour, keep a second round ready for when the sky starts to change.
What’s On the Bill
Pricing sits in the bracket you expect for a polished beach club in this part of town, with day passes that vary. A weekend day pass cost Dhs800 with Dhs400 redemable on food and drinks.
WHAT’S ON VERDICT
Some places simply let a good day unfold. Summersalt does that with confidence. If you are looking for a beach day that becomes a occasion, this is where to spend it.

SANA
Where traditional and contemporary combine
The Spot
Sitting on the edge of the serene blue waters of Madinat Jumeirah, SANA is Dubai’s newest Uzbek dining destination inspired by the historic Silk Road, where rich culture, craftsmanship, and bold flavours meet. Brought to life by BIK Hospitality Group, the minds behind names you might recognise like African Queen and Cutfish, SANA reimagines the legendary Uzbekistan Restaurant Moscow for Dubai’s cosmopolitan crowd. It’s a place where East meets West.
The Vibe
It’s grand yet grounding, earthy palettes, woven textures, and golden tones create a warm, transportive space that feels far from the bustle of Dubai. The restaurant hums with quiet sophistication: couples sharing shashlik skewers, friends catching up over plates of plov and cocktails. The winter in Dubai will be where SANA really thrives with its 110seat terrace floating over the water. The
secret MOON by SANA lounge tucked within the restaurant will keep you there long after dessert.
The Food and Drinks
Led by Chef Glen Ballis, whose experience spans the world including London, Melbourne, Moscow, and Asia, the menu is a masterclass in balance: heritage dishes elevated with modern flair. The clay-oven Tandir Non comes out warm and puffed, perfect with creamy dips. The Kamchatka crab belyash with truffle is an indulgent bite of luxury, while the slow-cooked Plov is rich, aromatic, and comforting. Don’t miss the whole seabass baked with herbs or the braised leg of lamb, both made for sharing.
The bar programme mirrors the menu’s East-meets-West spirit, think vodka-based twists, herbaceous spritzes, and teainfused creations.
The Service
Thoughtful and personal, the team know the menu inside out and will guide you with enthusiasm and knowledge.
What to Order
❑ Tandir Non with artisanal dips
❑ Kamchatka crab belyash with truffle

Plan your visit
SO/ Uptown Dubai sits in Uptown Tower, moments from Sheikh Zayed Road and the JLT cluster, with valet on arrival and smooth access from the metro. Each venue offers direct booking via WhatsApp from the hotel’s pages, so locking a table takes seconds. If you are building an itinerary, an easy route looks like this. Start with a late pool hour at Lazuli, lift to Celeste for sunset, slide into dinner at Citronelle, then finish with a nightcap at Savant⁶. If it is a Saturday, swap dinner for the Uptown Marché Brunch and keep the evening open.
SO/ Uptown Dubai feels like a neighbourhood already. It is polished, yes, but the hospitality is warm and the details are handled with care. Whether you are chasing a new brunch, a lunch that turns a day around, or a bar that knows what you mean when you say your favourite is spirit forward and citrus bright, this is where to point the group chat next.

EAT // WYNN AL MARJAN
WORDS: LAURA COUGHLIN
RESTAURANT ALL-STARS HEAD FOR RAK
Wynn Al Marjan Island drops a culinary bombshell with its first two restaurant announcements, and they’re dripping in star power, steak, and serious glamour
Wynn Al Marjan Island, the upcoming $5.1 billion mega-resort rising like a mirage of modern luxury from RAK’s turquoise waters, just revealed the first two restaurants confirmed for its 2027 debut. And the names are a power move...
DELILAH
The world famous, celeb-favourite, no-cameras-allowed, supper club from Las Vegas is making its formidable Middle East debut. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to dine inside a Scorsese tracking shot, this is the closest thing to it. A-list regulars at the original Delilah in Vegas and LA include Kendall Jenner, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gigi Hadid, Justin Bieber, and pretty much anyone who’s ever walked a red carpet.
Inside Delilah at Wynn Al Marjan Island, guests will descend from a luxe bar and lounge into a moody, candlelit dining room designed with the kind of dramatic detail you’d expect from Wynn Design & Development, led by Chief Creative Officer ToddAvery Lenahan. His vision is “to surprise guests and surpass their expectations” which in this case means cosy fireplaces, a 1950s
all-new Beirut-inspired supper club energy, and a side of toplevel, curated live music performances.
On the menu Delilah’s signature wagyu beef Wellington (carved tableside), playful upscale nods like crispy chicken tenders, and elegant new dishes that showcase the region’s local bounty. Meanwhile, the cocktail list promises a generous pour of Old Hollywood.
THE SUPPER CLUB OF LEGENDS
ALAIN DUCASSE
Meanwhile, the man with more Michelin stars than most chefs have knives in their kitchen is bringing a new, exclusive FrenchAmerican steakhouse to the UAE. Expect double-height drama, ultra-premium beef, cheese soufflé starters, and tableside flambé that would make a Parisian great-aunt beam. If his pedigree is any indication, this is tipped to become one of the best steakhouses in the UAE, an old-school temple of beef elevated with nouveau French flair.
For Ducasse’s – still unnamed – steakhouse, it will stretch across two floors, clocking in at roughly 1,820 square metres of culinary theatre. Speaking about his new restaurant at Wynn Al Marjan Island, Ducasse said, “this project is one of the most visionary and ambitious in the region.” And with a menu that will feature duck foie gras brioche, a dedicated “Beef Club,” and desserts flambéed right at your table, he’s clearly bringing his full culinary arsenal.
And that’s just the beginning…
When Wynn Al Marjan Island opens its doors in 2027, it will debut with an extraordinary 22 restaurants and lounges, spanning a Lebanese concept, an Indo-Persian restaurant, a modern Greek spot, and a game-changing food hall. Add to that a beach club, a nightclub, and an endless calendar of live performances, and you’ve got the makings of a new entertainment capital on the Arabian Gulf.
Beyond the dining, the mega-resort will also include 1,530 rooms and suites, multiple pools, a five-star spa, luxury shopping promenade, and a dramatic new theatre experience. The veiled casino area is of course a highlight in the plans, alongside a ‘Sea of Dreams’ spectacle, an enormous water-and-light animated show designed to dazzle.
WHAT’S NEW IN NAD AL SHEBA
Cool cafes and hip boutiques have injected new life into this historic Dubai neighbourhood
Something is bubbling in Nad Al Sheba. Not far from Meydan and just beyond D3, this sleepy neighbourhood filled with enormous mansions of all architectural styles has seen an indie influx in the last six months, plus the most talkedabout new school in the UAE. Here’s your insider’s guide to the recent openings – and established favourites – in this little-known Dubai enclave.
Rationed
Nad Al Sheba Mall
Similar to Dubai Hills Mall with plenty of natural light overhead and a huge central atrium that provides a sense of space and peace, Nad Al Sheba Mall is a shopping emporium that opened in spring 2025. Stretching across two floors, with an additional two floors of parking underneath, the mall has a nice blend of accessible stores such as Daiso and Mumuso, plus more upmarket boutiques such as The Editor’s Market, Oysho, Atelier Perfumery, and Omega watches coming soon. In between are outlets from brands such as Jacadi, Adidas, Crocs, Go Sport, Skechers, Bliss Flower Boutique as well as a Magrudy’s Bookstore and several beauty spots like 1847 Barbers, N Bar, and Hair Works. For groceries, you have two options: Spinneys or Union Coop, while there is a great selection of eateries like Salt, Parkers, Home Bakery, Homer Lobster, PDL Cafe, and Arabica. Kids can burn off energy at Fun City, Orange Wheels and Air Maniax while the mall’s top floor is home to the fancy Fit N Glam gym.

Good for those with a sweet tooth, Rationed is a handy stop-off on an accessible main road in Nad Al Sheba and, judging by the flow of cars when What’s On visited – is doing darn good business. Aswaaq Mall, 77 Street, Nad Al Sheba 4, daily 6am to 11pm. Tel: (0)4 252 0404. @z4coffee
The sadness that greeted the closure of Jumeirah concept store Villa Aumédan earlier this year was quickly followed by joy at the news of its revival in Nad Al Sheba. This bohemian boutique founded by Emirati brother and sister creatives Ahmad and Noura Almuhassin has found a new home on a quiet street in the corner of Nad Al Sheba 4 near the E66 highway. Wander through the courtyard of Villa Aumédan and you’ll find a luxury florist creating bespoke bouquets priced from Dhs 55 up to Dhs 3,850 for a show-stopping vase arrangement. The woman behind tashas: 20 years of
coffee, comfort, and community
Natasha Sideris on building a global café brand from a South African corner shop to the UAE and beyond
When Natasha Sideris opened the first tashas in Johannesburg’s Atholl Square, she thought it would be a hobby. She was studying psychology at university and had plans to write a book called Street Food Africa.
“I thought I’d open the store, work a few hours in the morning, go to lectures, and write my cookbook,” she laughs. “That never happened. From day one, it just took off.”
Two decades later, tashas has grown into a global name with 40 restaurants across South Africa, the UAE, and now Saudi Arabia. Sideris never planned for this. “Everything we do is organic. It takes time. We don’t chase trends, we don’t rush growth. It’s about doing things properly and choosing locations that make sense.”
an expensive couch,” she says. Her brother, who designs the interiors, shares her vision of understated elegance. The restaurants are designed to feel like home, a mix of quiet comfort and luxury. “You can come for a cappuccino and a slice of cake or go all out with grilled prawns and a Luxburger. It’s about making everyone feel welcome,” she says.
What started as a corner café has become a lifestyle brand defined by what she calls “quiet comfort and luxury.”
Finding a home in the UAE
Sideris landed in Dubai 11 years ago after a local Emirati businessman reached out about bringing tashas to the UAE. “We’d been approached by big corporate groups in the US, the UK, and Australia,” she says. “But the UAE made sense. I came to Dubai, fell in love, and never left.”
Now she is expanding beyond Dubai and Abu Dhabi into Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Sharjah. “We’ve been approached for years, especially after opening tashas in Al Bateen in Abu Dhabi, but the timing wasn’t right. Now, with Dubai becoming more populated and people moving to other emirates, it’s perfect. Al Ain has a great coffee culture and Sharjah has an amazing creative scene.”
The latest tashas in Al Ain is set to open in January 2026.
Sideris is hands-on with every new space. When we speak, she is in Riyadh, pausing mid-conversation to guide her team. “Don’t hold your tray to your chest. It’s not welcoming,” she calls out. Then she returns to the interview. “I am a control freak. I was in the kitchen yesterday from 11am to 11pm. I still do 16,000 steps a day during openings.”
The tashas touch
Step into any tashas and the details immediately stand out, from the lighting, the art and the effortless sense of ease. “tashas has always been about community, and community also means family. It’s warm, welcoming, comforting. We’ve always said it’s like putting your feet up on
The same philosophy shapes the menu. Her favourite is the parmesan couscous chicken breast, a wholesome mix of tenderstem broccoli, goat’s cheese, and fennel that nods to her Greek roots. She also has a soft spot for her brother’s creamy chicken pasta with mushrooms, the bestselling comfort dish on the menu.
No shortcuts, no secrets
What has kept tashas relevant for 20 years? “We do the basics really well. Great ingredients, made fresh, served with warmth. You can’t beat that.”
Her Abu Dhabi branch is the busiest in the group, but she is far from slowing down. With openings in Riyadh, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Al Ain, Sideris is busier than ever.
Does she ever rest? “When I’m working, I don’t. But when I’m on holiday, I switch off completely. No phone. For the most part, I like to be in nature. I swim, I relax.”
“The UAE is the land of opportunity. It’s become home. There is a warmth and generosity with the people here. Abu Dhabi is our busiest Tashas and the Flamingo Room is perfect for an intimate dinner,” she says.
Natasha Sideris has built more than a café brand over 20 years. She has built a home away from home, a place that feels familiar no matter where in the world you sit down for a cup of coffee.

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SAY HIS NAME 3 TIMES BEETLEJUICE…
AThe musical is coming to Abu Dhabi this November
bu Dhabi has been on a serious musical streak lately, drawing fans from all over the city (and the country) with its incredible lineup. In May, we felt the power of the people’s voices with Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular. June had us singing and dancing along to all the timeless hits of Mamma Mia!
And now, this month, get ready to meet the most hilariously chaotic ghost of all time when Beetlejuice The Musical takes over Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena.
What is Beetlejuice The Musical about?
Beetlejuice The Musical is based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film, Beetlejuice, and tells the story of Lydia
Deetz. Lydia is a strange and unusual teenager dealing with grief from the loss of her mother and a neglectful father.
The house that they have recently moved into is haunted by a recently deceased couple and a degenerate demon with a thing for stripes. But thankfully, Lydia has a thing for ‘all-things-dead,’ and she calls on the ghosts to help scare away her father and step-mother.
Beetlejuice comes up with the perfect plan, which involves exorcism, an adorable girl scout who gets scared out of her wits, and a whole (nether)world of pandemonium.
And you can just imagine chaos that ensues.

Heads up, folks! Beetlejuice the Musical is a wild, weird, and wonderfully inappropriate ride… just the way he likes it. That means it’s rated PG-13 for strong language, spooky (and kooky) supernatural stuff, mature themes, and humour that might raise some eyebrows. Kids under 13 won’t be admitted, and if your teen tags along, be ready to answer a few interesting questions on the way home. You’ve been warned.

CULTURE // UAE MARATHONS
WORDS: LEONIE WAGNER
Abu Dhabi’s marathon calendar is filling up, and whether you’re a seasoned runner chasing a personal best or just fancy a brisk jog past some seriously Instagrammable scenery, there’s a race with your name on it. From the palms of Al Ain to the city lights of Abu Dhabi, these events are as much about crossing the finish line as they are about the journey, the views, and the sense of community that comes with pounding the tarmac alongside hundreds of fellow runners.
CHASING THE SUN
Abu Dhabi’s marathon season heats up
8 November
Al Ain Half Marathon
Set your sights on the oasis city for the Al Ain Half Marathon, and prepare for a route that’s as scenic as it is satisfying. Starting in the heart of Al Ain, the course winds past towering date palms, heritage sites, and stretches of desert that glow golden under the early morning sun. Whether you’re tackling the full 21km, testing yourself on the 10km, taking a steady pace in the 5km, or enjoying a leisurely 2.5km, the city’s charm is hard to beat. This race is about more than speed. It’s a chance to soak in the history and culture of Al Ain, often called the Garden City for good reason. Running through refreshing oases, quiet streets lined with palms, and then reaching the finish line that makes you feel like you’ve earned every step. Families, friends, and running enthusiasts will all find something to cheer for. Even if you’re not racing, the energy from the sidelines is electric.
13 December
Abu Dhabi Marathon
Fast forward to December and the Abu Dhabi Marathon is calling. This is a big one, with routes designed to show off the capital at its best. The city’s skyline, iconic landmarks, and carefully planned courses make this marathon as much a sightseeing tour as it is a challenge. But don’t worry if you haven’t clocked enough training sessions yet, the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon Free Training Sessions are here to get you race-ready.
These sessions run from Throughout November and December, giving runners in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra a chance to build stamina, perfect form, and meet fellow participants.
Abu Dhabi Training sessions:
Location: Zayed Sports City Track Times: 7.30pm every Tuesday and Thursday
Al Ain Training session:
Location: Al Wadi Park Times: 7.30pm on Monday and Thursday
Al Dhafra training session:
Location: Marabiaa Al Dhafra Times: 8pm on Tuesday and Thursday
These sessions are also a chance to swap stories, share tips, and feel the excitement of a growing running community. There’s a camaraderie that comes from training for something bigger than yourself, whether that’s your first half marathon or your tenth full. Plus, let’s be honest, the motivation of running alongside others is hard to beat, especially when you’ve got the cool desert evenings keeping things comfortable.
WHY RUN IN THE UAE?
Running in the UAE is a visual treat. The landscapes shift from palm-lined streets and heritage landmarks in Al Ain to modern skyscrapers, waterfronts, and desert backdrops in Abu Dhabi. Each race offers a different kind of thrill. Some are about achieving personal goals, others about celebrating the season with friends and family. But all of them share one thing: a feeling of connection. Whether you’re a casual jogger or a competitive runner, these events are designed to bring people together, celebrate health and endurance, and make running as much fun as it is challenging.
TIPS FOR RUNNERS
Timing is everything. Most UAE marathons are scheduled in cooler months, but early mornings and late evenings are your best friend. Hydrate, pace yourself, and enjoy the scenery. And don’t underestimate the power of the free training sessions. They’ll help you stay motivated, improve your technique, and meet other runners who might just become long-term running buddies.
RUN LIKE YOU MEAN IT: UAE MARATHON TRAINING GUIDE
Whether you’re chasing the Al Ain Half Marathon on 8 November or the Abu Dhabi Marathon on 13 December, a little planning goes a long way. Here’s your no-nonsense guide to getting race-ready.
01 Start Smart
Don’t just lace up and hope for the best. Begin with short, manageable runs three to four times a week. Gradually increase distance. Mix in easy runs, a slightly faster pace day, and one long, slow run on weekends. Your body will thank you.
02 Strength Matters
Running isn’t just legs. Add strength exercises to prevent injuries. Include squats, lunges, planks, and pushups. Core strength helps your stride and posture, making those last kilometers feel easier.
03
Don’t Skip Recovery
Stretch, foam roll, and get enough sleep. Muscle soreness is part of the game, but ignoring it leads to injuries. A rest day is your best friend.
04 Hit the Free Training Sessions
ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon Free Training Sessions aren’t just for beginners. Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City Track meets Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30 pm. Al Ain runners head to Al Wadi Park on Monday and Thursday evenings at 7.30 pm, and Al Dhafra’s crew meet at Marabiaa Al Dhafra Track on Tuesday and Thursday at 8 pm. These sessions help you build endurance, improve form, and make running buddies who get the thrill of a finish-line high.
05 Fuel Your Body
Hydration and nutrition are key in the UAE heat. Water before, during, and after runs is non-negotiable. Carbrich meals fuel longer runs, protein supports recovery, and healthy fats keep energy steady.
Top UAE supplements
Want to boost performance safely? These are popular among UAE runners:
• Electrolyte powders: Keeps you hydrated during long runs. Look for options like Hydralyte or Nuun.
• Protein powders: Whey or plant-based for post-run recovery.
Optimum Nutrition and MyProtein are widely available.
• BCAAs: Branch-chain amino acids help reduce fatigue and muscle soreness.
• Omega-3 capsules: Support joint health and inflammation management.
• Energy gels or chews: Quick fuel for mid-run energy, especially on long distances.
06 Gear Up
Good shoes make a difference. Invest in a pair that suits your gait and distance. Lightweight clothing that wicks sweat keeps you comfortable in the UAE’s warm climate. And don’t forget a cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen for daytime runs.
07 Mental Game
Running is 90 per cent mind, 10mper cent legs. Break long runs into chunks, set mini-goals, and reward yourself. Music, podcasts, or a running buddy can make the miles fly by.
08 Race Day Ready
Start slow, stick to your pace plan, and enjoy the scenery. Hydrate at every station, take your energy gels if you’re on longer distances, and soak in the atmosphere. Crossing the finish line isn’t just about speed, it’s about the story you’ve created every step of the way.
ACTIVE // DUNE BUGGIES
WORDS: LAURA COUGHLIN
TRIED & TESTED
THE DESERT, DISRUPTED
Zerzura Experiences wants you to experience dune buggy adventures differently
Imagine zipping through the desert, sand spraying like confetti, your heart doing somersaults as you vault off a dune and land with a thud that rattles your teeth. It’s Mad Max meets Mleiha, except you’re the one behind the wheel, not watching from a cinema seat.
This is Zerzura, a new player in Dubai’s dune-buggy game, and one that’s aiming to do things a little differently. Forget the long, lumbering convoys and the cookie-cutter camps. Zerzura doesn’t want to herd you through the desert like a sunburnt tourist on a package tour. They hope to show you the desert on a private, design-led, thrill-charged adventure all your own…
THE ARRIVAL
Forty-five minutes from Dubai, Mleiha National Park opens up like a movie set, red dunes, rocky outcrops, and an eerie, cinematic silence. Zerzura’s private base camp sits tucked amid it all. There’s shade, spotless restrooms (a rare and welcome desert luxury), icy towels, and cold water.
A low-key majlis sets the tone. You sign your waiver, essentially acknowledging that, yes, you’re about to hurl yourself into the desert at unreasonable speeds, and then get kitted out: hairnet, goggles, helmet. There’s a short but sharp briefing, and then the star of the show rolls up.
Don’t expect a Can-Am or a flimsy tourist buggy. Zerzura’s machines are custom-built beasts – four-cylinder, 2000cc engines, 32-inch tyres, and a reinforced frame that’s practically unrollable. These things are born to misbehave, yet feel surprisingly responsive. You can sense the power before you even hit the gas.
THE RIDE
The adventure kicks off gently enough. You cruise along gravel tracks, acclimating to the controls, when suddenly – bam – you’re climbing your first dune. The landscape opens up, and so does the throttle. You push the pedal, and the buggy roars like an animal finally freed.
It’s chaos, but it’s glorious as you slide sideways and launch over crests. There’s a wonderful sense of rebellion in carving your own path through the dunes. No convoy to follow. No crowds to dodge. Just you and your guide up ahead.
Every 10 minutes or so, you stop to catch your breath, and discover the best bits of Mleiha desert, which hides ancient secrets. Your guide points out old marine fossils, once part of the ocean floor. At another stop, you’ll find Camel Rock, a surreal rock formation that looks exactly as its name suggests. Then it’s on to sandboarding, a slightly ridiculous, thoroughly enjoyable tumble down a dune that makes you feel 10-years-old again.
By the time you roll back to base camp, you’re sweaty and sandy but it’s not over yet…
THE DINNER
Should guests choose to continue on, Zerzura offers dining in the desert experiences as a post-dune-buggy perk. You’ll hop back into a buggy and get driven to a secluded setup deep in the dunes, complete with flickering firepit, a rustic BBQ smoking gently in the corner, and a dining table for four, laid out under the stars.
Dinner is simple but good. A mezze spread kicks things off with hummus, mutabal, and fresh Arabic bread, followed by grilled lamb chops and chicken with rice. And then, the quiet. No belly dancers or falcon shows, or overcrowded buffets queues. Just space to relax alone.
THE VERDICT
This is adventure stripped of gimmicks, rebuilt for the modern traveller who wants thrill and authenticity in equal measure. It’s also, thankfully, small-scale. You won’t be queuing for your turn on a shared dune or dodging convoys of buggies. Instead, you get something that feels raw pretty damn cool. It’s not the cheapest way to spend an evening (from Dhs3,400 for two guests, including a private dinner), but it’s one of the most memorable.

STAY HERE
Corinthia London
A grand dame in the beating heart of London, few addresses are surrounded by as many iconic landmarks as Corinthia London. With the South Bank, London Eye, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden and even Buckingham Palace within walking distance, you’re perfectly primed to tick off London’s crown jewels. But there’s as much to enjoy on property as there is surrounding Corinthia London.
Smartly dressed doormen cheerily greet guests – and keep the crowds at bay when VIP guests are checking in, a regular occurrence at this London legend. A stay in the hotel’s recently revamped suites laces British heritage with modern comforts, a masterclass in oldmeets-new design with bespoke British furniture, soft hues of olive green and muted saffron, and a grand marble bathtub. A Corinthia newspaper and glass jar stocked with sweets, add thoughtful, retro touches.
Dining is a gourmet affair. The star power of chef Tom Kerridge resides over Kerridge’s Bar & Grill, where crimson leathers and moody lighting create. A rich and retro brasserie with a masculine touch, guests flock here for breakfasts of fresh fruit and pastries laid out in a neat buffet by the bar, or fuel up for a day of
exploring with a la carte orders of eggs. Wrap up and dine alfresco at The Garden, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it courtyard that transports you straight to the Mediterranean thanks to its verdant botanical décor and menu of standout dishes like creamy burrata di Puglia and red Sicilian prawns. Then there’s Velvet, a discreet drinking den hidden in partnership with an icon of mixology, Salvatore Calabrese. The setting is intimate and exclusive, the cocktails reinterpret classics with imaginative flair, and glamour oozes from every corner – especially if you catch yourself here when there’s a live pianist.
But the crowning feature here is found in the hotel basement – the four-floor ESPA Life spa. Although calling it a spa doesn’t do this haven of relaxation justice. There’s a warren-like maze of treatment rooms, where facials using the latest Augustinus Bader products transform tired city skin. Kioku by Endo at Raffles
When Raffles transformed the historic Old War Office into Raffles London at the OWO, it brought with it an impressive collection of nine restaurants and three bars. And while much of the culinary action is found on the ground floor, a true rooftop gem is Kioku by Endo, a dazzling Japanese rooftop. A blend of East-meets-West flavours in a setting that’s sleek and sophisticated, you may first come for the views that stretch across London, but you return time and again for acclaimed chef Endo Kazutoshi’s inventive cuisine. Defined by his personal and professional memories, dishes are bold and flavour-packed, and the best way to experience them is with the seasonally-changing seven course tasting menu.

THE GCC ESCAPE THAT HAS IT ALL Doha:
A city that mixes skyscrapers with green calm, museum magic with souq bustle, and desert drama with a sea breeze
WORDS: LIAM JOYCE
There is a moment after you land in Doha when the glass and steel fall into place and you realise the city is not trying to shout. It glows. The skyline runs along the bay like a polished necklace, the Corniche curves the water into a graceful stage, and palms shake off the heat as if they have known cooler months are coming all along. If Dubai is the social butterfly with a calendar full of openings and Abu Dhabi is the friend who knows the quiet corners, Qatar’s capital Doha is the thoughtful host who sets the table, lights the candles, and then surprises you with a playlist that keeps the evening going. Familiar in all the right ways, different where it counts, and generous with time. It is a city that does not demand you cram everything into a single day, but rewards you when you do.
What makes the first impression stick is the balance, which I think everyone can appreciate. Yes, there are towers that catch the sun as if they invented it, but there are also parks and shaded walks that soften the pace. Drive through West Bay and you see mirror-finish offices, then in minutes you are on the Corniche watching joggers, families, and retirees sharing the same path. Cross into Education City and the green opens out at Oxygen Park, with lawns ribboning around running tracks and sculpted earth mounds that double as playgrounds for both children and adults who refuse to stop being children. Aspire Park gives you a lake, long loops for walkers, and that happy hum that comes when people claim public space at golden hour. Doha is modern but it is not hard. It has edges, but they are sanded smooth by trees, waterfronts, and a civic pride that likes to plant something wherever it can.

City activities
Start at the water with mornings on the Corniche that feel like a soft reset for busy minds. Dhows bob in slow motion, the skyline throws clean reflections, and the air carries that salty promise that your day might turn out better than your diary suggests. From here, Doha begins to reveal its neighbourhoods. Souq Waqif (@soukwaqifdoha) pulls you into a maze of lanes that still smell of spice and fresh bread. If you linger by the spice trays, someone will tell you what to do with sumac. If you admire a textile for too long, a tailor will gesture to a stool as if you have already decided. Sit for karak. it arrives hot and sweet and the world becomes very manageable in three sips.
Msheireb Downtown works as a reset button after the sensory sprint of the souq. It is a district with shaded streets, creamy stone walls, and a tram that slips past like a polite whisper. Cafés spill onto pavements, galleries hide around corners, and there is space to look up and admire the geometry of it all. If you prefer your city energy turned up a notch, Lusail answers after dark. Lusail Boulevard lights like a runway and then fills with families, friends, and that shuffling optimism of a place that believes in evening plans. The Pearl is for long lunches and boats that make you agree that white hulls are a personality type. Katara Cultural Village threads beach, amphitheatre, and alleyways painted with murals, and walks you gently into sunset.
Arts and museums
Doha’s cultural circuit is compact enough to conquer in a weekend and rich enough to justify another visit. The Museum of Islamic Art (@miaqatar) sits on its own promontory, a composition of light and shadow that I. M. Pei drew like a poem. Inside, galleries guide you through centuries of making. You move from glazed bowls that learned how to hold colour before Instagram did, to calligraphy that curls and flows as if the letters are dancing. It is the kind of museum where you step closer, step back, and then step closer again because detail insists.
to settle family disputes about who is actually the most competitive. Do not skip the smaller stops. The Fire Station (@dohafirestattion) is a former civil defence building repurposed into studios and galleries that nurture local artists. M7 (@m7.qatar) is a design and fashion hub where exhibitions feel fresh and shop windows are curated with care. Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art (@mathafmodern) gives context to artists whose names you might not know yet but will. These spaces make it easy to believe the city when it calls itself a cultural crossroads. They are also excellent places to hide from the sun a little longer than you planned.
A short ride away, the National Museum of Qatar (@nmoqatar) unfurls like a desert rose. The building is a statement in itself, all interlocking discs and shifting light. It turns history into something you feel. Pearling boats, Bedouin tents, oral histories, moving images. Each section opens to the next so smoothly that you forget to check your phone, which is the highest praise we can offer any museum in 2025. If you have room for more, and you should, the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum (@321qosm) is a gift to anyone who has ever claimed it was definitely offside. Exhibits jump from ancient games to modern heroics and there are enough interactive corners

Into the dunes
Cities are wonderful, but nothing rewires a weekend like the desert. The drive to the Inland Sea, Khor Al Adaid, is the sort of transition that feels like magic even when you know every turn. Asphalt gives way to sand, buildings shrink to a memory and the sky opens wider than it has any right to. If you book a guided trip (@inboundtoursqatar), your convoy pauses to lower tyre pressures and you pretend you are not excited, then someone shouts when the first ridge drops away and the car slides. Dune bashing is an art built on physics and bravado. It is as safe as the professional behind the wheel and as wild as you want to feel. Sandboarding is the part where you discover that gravity is a comedian and you are the punchline. The desert forgives ungraceful landings, I can’t relate, but I have been told. If dunes feel too bold for your first day, head instead to Al Thakira and paddle through mangroves where herons patrol like thin, elegant lifeguards. The water is calm, the channels twist gently, and the only thing you need to bring is a hat, water, and a sense that time is allowed to slow. It is a soft adventure that makes a big difference to your mood.
The final word
Travel writing is fond of the word tapestry, yes, very clichéd, but Doha earns it. It is the skyline and the shoreline. It is museum quiet and souq chatter. It is a dune that falls into the sea and a park that holds the heat at arm’s length. You can go for a long weekend and never run out of things that make you feel both away and at ease. You can stack your days with city loops and your evenings with art, then spend the next day unlearning speed in the desert. You can try new dishes and return to old favourites and smile at how very quickly a place can feel friendly.

A world away…
THE STAY
Tucked away along a stretch of pristine private shoreline, The Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah, Al Hamra Beach is where barefoot luxury meets desert calm. With just 32 private villas, each with its own pool, this secluded escape is designed for total privacy and peace - the kind of place where the only sound is the soft crash of waves against the sand. Whether you’re coming from Dubai or beyond, it feels a world away.
THE SETTING
Set along the tranquil coastline of RAK, this Ritz-Carlton outpost offers a serene seaside escape just an hour from Dubai. The resort sits on a secluded stretch of beach framed by calm turquoise waters on one side and desert dunes on the other. It’s intimate, quiet, and effortlessly beautiful, close enough to Ras Al Khaimah’s marina and golf courses for a little exploring, yet far enough to feel completely removed from the everyday.
THE ROOM
We stayed in a Beach Pool Villa, a perfect blend of coastal chic and Arabian elegance.
It feels like a tent yet it has wooden ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows that open directly onto your own private pool and beach cabana, and there’s even a bathtub outside. Inside, the king bed is cloud-soft, the bathroom features a rain shower, and thoughtful touches make the experience feel personal and polished, such as fruit when you arrives. Sunset swims in your private pool are a must.
THE FOOD & DRINK
The resort’s signature restaurant, The Shore House, is a Mediterranean-inspired beachfront spot that nails the balance between relaxed and refined. Breakfast is an indulgent affair with à la carte classics, fresh juices, and sea views that make coffee taste even better. For dinner, seafood takes centre stage, but we loved the steak, perfectly cooked and juicy. Private dining can also be arranged on the beach or in your villa for extra romance.
THE ACTIVITIES
Days unfold slowly here. Start with sunrise yoga by the sea, take a dip in your pool, or hop on a paddleboard to explore the calm bay. The resort can organise snorkelling
trips, sunset cruises, or spa treatments where the treatment rooms look out onto the beach and let you hear the waves as you unwind. Guests also have access to sister property Al Wadi Desert, just a short drive away, for desert safaris, horse riding, or falconry - the best of both worlds.
THE EXPERIENCE
The Ritz-Carlton Al Hamra Beach is all about effortless indulgence. Service is warm but never intrusive and every detail is anticipated, from cool towels on arrival to perfectly timed turndown treats. It’s romantic, restorative, and wonderfully slow. The kind of place that reminds you how good quiet can feel.
