Maleny, Beerwah and Woodford Woolworths have joined over 1000 stores across Australia and introduced collection units for end-of-life batteries and old mobile phones. The aim of the initiative is to provide accessible points for the recycling of e-waste which would otherwise end up in land ll.
“Approximately 94% of household batteries are never recycled, and around 24 million unused phones are stored in homes across Australia, both items containing harmful substances that can damage the environment if improperly disposed into land ll”, said Mr Powell. “It’s great to have these collection points in such handy spots, encouraging us to gather up those spent batteries and outdated technology lying around the house and simply recycle them when we pop down for the groceries.” “We all know we need to do our bit for the environment, and it’s never been more convenient than now.
