Giorgio Armani falleció hace unas semanas con 91 años de edad. Grande entre los grandes, volvió a brillar este mismo año con una colección que reinterpreta su obra, realzando el resultado final y creando como siempre. Y, aunque hemos hablado de Giorgio en varias ocasiones, este es un reconocimiento a su trayectoria y su trabajo. Nuestro responsable de contenidos, Alberto Zapata, conoció a este gentleman italiano en el aniversario de una joyería en Milán, acompañado por la heredera de su imperio, su sobrina Roberta, hija de su hermano Sergio. Armani fue un gigante del diseño y la innovación, pero también de la industria, algo poco común. Su legado perdurará entre nosotros. Ciao Giorgio.

Giorgio Armani passed away a few weeks ago at the age of 91. A giant among giants, he shone once again this year with a collection that reinterprets his work, enhancing the final result and creating as always. And, although we have spoken of Giorgio on several occasions, this is a tribute to his career and his work. Our content manager, Alberto Zapata, met this Italian gentleman at a jewelry store’s anniversary celebration in Milan, accompanied by the heiress to his empire, his niece Roberta, daughter of his brother Sergio. Armani was a giant of design and innovation, but also of industry, something rare. His legacy will endure with us. Ciao Giorgio.

Since 1984, IWC Schaffhausen’s Portofino collection has epitomised timeless elegance. Its design, defined by a simple round case, minimalist dial, slender indices, Roman numerals and leaf-shaped hands, has made it an enduring classic. The moon phase display has been part of the collection’s DNA from the very beginning, as the very first Portofino created by IWC already featured this poetic complication.

The new Portofino Automatic Moon Phase features a 40-millimetre case crafted in 18-carat 5N gold. Its silver-plated dial is adorned with gold-plated indices and Roman numerals at 6 and 12 o’clock, complemented by gold-plated leaf-shaped hands. The automatic calibre 35800 delivers a power

At Geneva Watch Days, HAUTLENCE unveiled two new additions to its Vagabonde line: the Vagabonde Tourbillon Series 4 and the Vagabonde Tourbillon Series 5. These creations combine wandering hour displays with a flying tourbillon, offering a fresh perspective on how time can be read, felt, and experienced.

Housed in HAUTLENCE’s signature rectangular case, the wandering hours sweep across a central minutes disc, while the flying tourbillon at six o’clock delivers both visual depth and technical mastery. The dials—adorned with geometric or organic patterns crafted through 3D printing—draw inspiration from contemporary architecture.

In 1860, the young Louis-Ulysse Chopard founded in Switzerland the Maison that still bears his name. In 1904, Karl Scheufele established in Germany a company specialising in jewellery and timepieces. Their paths would cross in 1965, when the Scheufele family acquired Chopard.

From that moment on, the Maison has marked milestones and launched icons such as Happy Diamonds, its sponsorship of the Mille Miglia race, the debut of the first L.U.C. watch, its partnership with the Cannes Film Festival… and it has become the first luxury house to use 80% recycled steel and 100% ethically sourced gold, free from labour exploitation.

Since 1999, Chopard’s Ice Cube collection has embodied a minimalist elegance. Now, the Maison unveils a High Jewellery capsule collection presented in 2024, reinterpreting the iconic cube through bold proportions, versatile combinations and sculptural brilliance. From a spectacular necklace to an ingenious brooch, luminous bracelets and other pieces, these creations reflect a modern, architectural spirit.

According to Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director: “Ice Cube has always stood for a pure, avantgarde design… Here, we have pushed the collection’s language further towards volume, movement and artistic expression. I wanted the jewels to be easy to wear, yet unexpected, conceived as contemporary artworks for the body.”

La colección Ice Cube de Chopard siempre ha encarnado una elegancia minimalista. Ahora, la Maison presenta una colección cápsula de Alta Joyería. Según Caroline Scheufele, Copresidenta y Directora Artística de Chopard: “Ice Cube siempre ha representado un diseño puro y vanguardista… En esta ocasión, hemos llevado el lenguaje de la colección un paso más allá, explorando el volumen, el movimiento y la expresión artística. Quería que las joyas fueran fáciles de llevar, pero a la vez inesperadas, concebidas como obras de arte contemporáneas para el cuerpo”.

At the heart of the collection lies a unique, transformable necklace, composed of articulated rows of ethical white and rose gold cubes. Nine rows create a dynamic silhouette, which can be lengthened or reduced in groups of three, depending on the occasion. This modular design echoes the spirit of accumulation and mix & match that has defined the Ice Cube rings and bracelets from the very beginning.

A series of bracelets and a versatile brooch also revisit the collection’s architectural codes. Meanwhile, the Asscher-cut diamond finds a bold new expression in two standout creations. One ring showcases an emblematic Ice Cube design: two parallel bands of 18-carat ethical white gold set with brilliantcut diamonds, joined by a striking 3-carat Asscher-cut diamond, positioned diagonally.

THE LATEST WOMEN’S COLLECTION WITH GIORGIO

We first met him in Milan itself, at the anniversary of a jewellery house, accompanied by his niece Roberta. He told us he had always been fascinated by Milan’s fashion industry, as it was the city that welcomed him when he began studying Medicine and, later, when he worked as a window dresser.

Then came the founding of his own label and the leap to global fame with the commission to design the wardrobe for American Gigolo. It was there we first saw Richard Gere in what would become an icon: a perfectly cut black suit worn with a T-shirt.

For Armani, however, each collection was always a return to his roots. In this Autumn/Winter season’s collection, he once again drew inspiration from himself perhaps sensing it might be his farewell…

The garments take on his signature volcanic hues and mineral sheens: sandy and golden beige tones, deep browns fading into green, quartz-blue highlights, and every shade of grey. Fabrics are soft yet substantial to the touch velvet, cashmere, jacquard silks. Silk trouser suits flow with ease, coats are deconstructed, jackets carry an impeccable poise. For evening, intricate embroidery adorns fluid dresses. Soft handbags and flat shoes, designed for light yet assured steps, convey an innate sense of confidence.

The Parisian Maison Alexandre.J unveils Sweet Enigma, the latest addition to its Art Nouveau Collection, first launched in 2021. With Sweet Enigma, Alexandre.J reimagines the magnetism of the earlier Oriental Enigma, bringing forth a softer, more delicate facet.

At its heart lies the Art Nouveau mask, the emblem of the collection. With its flowing organic curves and interplay of concealment and revelation, it pays tribute to mystery and sophistication, evoking seduction, elegance and an invitation to explore the unknown. Sweet Enigma is housed in a white leather case protecting a flacon fully clad in galvanised gold, with the mask taking centre stage.

In these collections, perfume becomes art and the functional object transforms into sculpture. Each Totem in these lines is a unique piece, handcrafted in Europe using the age-old technique of mouthblown glass, turning every diffuser into an unrepeatable, sensorial creation. The artisanal process begins in Poland, where molten glass is wound around a rod and shaped through the artisan’s breath.

In the Pearls Collection, inspired by the purity and perfection of pearls, this technique is used to create luminous bottles in white or black, adorned with golden or platinum motifs. By incorporating fragments of glass during the blowing process, the finish acquires a brilliant radiance.

The Feathers Collection employs mouth-blown glass to reproduce patterns inspired by feathers. In models such as Feathers Original or Feathers Touareg, the coloured glass confetti generates effects that evoke ethereal plumage. This production method, virtually unchanged for more than 2,000 years, remains one of the pillars of Baobab Collection’s savoir-faire.

The final touch comes from the handcrafted ceramic stopper made in Portugal, echoing Baobab Collection’s Folia line of ceramic candles, and crowning each Totem with the same meticulous attention to detail. The result is a meaningful decorative object, one that both perfumes and beautifies.

Geometry, Play and Matter

Founder and director of Estudio Cerisola in Mexico, Pedro Cerisola works from an essential conviction: play is the driving force behind all creative activity. He states that his practice moves “between art, science and industrial design, combining mathematical precision, playful thinking and a profound sensitivity to matter.”

He collaborates with mathematicians and scientists, and has developed physical and sculptural models in partnership with the Institute of Mathematics at UNAM. “Numbers are only one language of mathematics,” he says, “and I prefer the language of space to understand them.”

Fundador y director de Estudio Cerisola en México, Pedro Cerisola trabaja a partir de una convicción fundamental: el juego es la fuerza motriz de toda actividad creativa. Afirma que su práctica se mueve «entre el arte, la ciencia y el diseño industrial, combinando precisión matemática, pensamiento lúdico y una profunda sensibilidad hacia la materia».

Works such as the Toro G10 Table—a toroidal structure generated from just three unique modules—or sculptures built from simple metal hooks transformed into complex geometric solids, exemplify his way of pushing everyday objects to the limits of their formal expression.

From furniture and lighting to sculptures and toys, his practice challenges the boundaries between function and art.

Obras como la mesa Toro G10 -una estructura toroidal generada a partir de tan solo tres módulos únicos- o esculturas construidas con simples ganchos metálicos transformados en complejos sólidos geométricos,

Cerisola has served as curator and director of the IberoAmerican Design Biennial (BID), teaches at UDIT University in Madrid, and his work has been exhibited in institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, MUAC, the National Museum of Anthropology, the Franz Mayer Museum and the Tamayo Museum. A blend of 50% Macabeo and 50% Xarel·lo, crafted according to the estate’s traditional methods high in the Montmell mountains. The altitude brings freshness, balance and a vibrant acidity, while also ensuring excellent ageing potential. The 2024 vintage was marked by a dry winter followed by a rainy spring that revived the vineyards after drought, encouraging slow, harmonious ripening. Añada del 2024, al 50% Macabeo y Xarello, elaborado con el método tradicional de la finca que nace en las montañas del Montmell, fresco y equilibrado, con la acidez vibrante de la altura y una gran capacidad de envejecimiento. La añada 2024 estuvo marcada por un invierno seco y una primavera lluviosa que revitalizaron los viñedos después de la sequía, favoreciendo maduraciones lentas y equilibradas. Tal como explica Pepe Raventós, viticultor del proyecto: “La paciencia a la hora de vendimiar nos ha dado buenos equilibrios, madurez y peso en boca”.

A jewel from a single vineyard of just over one hectare, planted in 1945 in the south-east of Leza, Rioja Alavesa. The plot reflects the varietal and clonal diversity of its time: predominantly Tempranillo and Viura, alongside rare vines of Benedicto, Morate, Mencía, Garnacha, Graciano, Malvasía Riojana and Cayetana Blanca. Es un pequeño viñedo de poco más de una hectárea plantado en 1945. Está en el sureste del municipio de Leza en la Rioja Alavesa. Presenta una diversidad varietal y clonal muy típica del momento y de la zona: mayoría de Tempranillo, Viura, pero hay cepas de Benedicto, Morate, Mencía, Garnacha, Graciano, Malvasía Riojana y Cayetana Blanca. Todas esas variedades se vendimian juntas a mano. Cofrades es la viña vieja de Leza. Aroma profundo. Delicado y complejo, con notas exóticas. Muy elegante, sólo se elaboraron 1.463 botellas.

FROM CLASSIC COCKTAIL TO MODERN ICON: THE ESPRESSO MARTINI

ANDRÉS LÓPEZ, WINE AND SPIRITS SOMMELIER AND BRAND AMBASSADOR FOR OTC GROUP – di stributor of houses such as Ron Matusalem, Plantation, Italicus, Chartreuse, Amaro Montenegro and Monin, a global leader in mixology. A bartender with over 13 years of experience in cocktails, he is passionate about technique, flavour and creativity:

In 1983, bartender Dick Bradsell set out to create a cocktail that would awaken and enliven the senses… The result was a simple yet elegant blend of vodka, coffee liqueur and freshly brewed espresso. He first named it Vodka Espresso, but in the 1990s, once served in the iconic Martini glass, it took on the name Espresso Martini. It has since become one of the most sought-after cocktails in the world.

ORIGINAL RECIPE (DICK BRADSELL, 1983):

40 ml Vodka / 20 ml Coffee Liqueur / 30 ml Fresh Espresso / 10 ml Simple Syrup (optional)

METHOD:

Shake vigorously in a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice until a silky foam is achieved.

GLASS:

Chilled Martini glass.

GARNISH: Three coffee beans - symbolising health, wealth and happiness.

ESPRESSO MARTINI TIRAMISU

The Espresso Martini transformed into an innovative dessert.

RECIPE:

30 ml Monin Cold Brew / 25 ml Mr Black Coffee Liqueur / 25 ml Ron Matusalem 7 Años / 20 ml Monin Caramel Syrup / 20 ml Monin Chocolate Cookie Syrup / 45 ml Cold Whipping Cream / Savoiardi Biscuits / Cocoa Powder for dusting

METHOD:

In a cocktail shaker, combine the cold brew, Mr Black, Ron Matusalem 7 Años and 20 ml of caramel syrup. Shake vigorously with plenty of ice until thoroughly chilled and a balanced texture is achieved. Strain carefully into a chilled Martini glass (use a double strainer to avoid ice shards).

Separately, whip the cold cream with the chocolate cookie syrup until it becomes soft, smooth and stable.

Gently spoon or pour the whipped cream over the liquid base in the Martini glass - do this slowly so the layers remain separate.

Dust with cocoa powder and serve with one or two Savoiardi biscuits.

GLASS: Chilled Martini glass.

GARNISH: Cocoa powder and Savoiardi biscuits.
