General Vibes

Spirit of participation

Sunglow is a DIY experience. Everyone brings their unique vibes and gifts together to make it awesome! You don’t have to be a festival organizer to help- it can be as simple as lending a hand when you see its needed, share a meal, sing us a song, whateva! :)

Everything you experience at Moonglow is created by you and your fellow moonglowers through personal contributions of art, entertainment, hospitality, and volunteering. Remember, you are the festival ;)

Consent is important.

Be kind. Be communicative. Lend a hand. Have fun <3

Leave No trace

Blu’s family is SO nice to let us party here all weekend long. They have taken extreme care for literally decades to keep this land beautiful and natural, and we get to enjoy that beauty. In exchange, do your part and leave no trace!!

THROW YOUR TRASH AWAY. ( ˘ ³˘)♥ It is very easy, especially when partying, to not pay attention to your stuff. Please be mindful and do not leave your items or trash laying around. That creates mess for someone else to clean up, or worse, litter that’s now lost on the land.

Bring your own trash bags and keep one at your camp at all times!!. I like to keep a trash bag tied to my cooking table so I always have one handy.

Cigarette butts are MOOP (matter out of place) and must be removed from the land. Please carry a sealable ashtray or baggie if you plan on smoking ciggs.

At the end of the weekend, we will take time as a group to comb the land for trash. Please plan to be there for this if possible!

Packing list

Things that are ‘provided’:

• There’s a house on the property that can be used for internet/electricity/ running water if need be. Try not to rely on the house unless you really need something

• There’s running water (non-potable creek) on the property, too.

• Porta potties are provided.

• We ask that you do not wash your dishes in the creek, but you are welcome to get water from the creek and bring it to your campsite to wash dishes.

• There is a hill country store about a 10 minute drive from the campsite where you can buy more water, ice, etc.

Things you will need to bring:

Tent with rain fly and ground tarp. DON’T forget the rain fly and ground tarp, there’s a statistically high probability that you and your belongings will end up very very wet

• Warm sleeping bag

• Pillow

• Sleeping mat (the ground can be hard)

• 3 days worth of drinking water (at least).Plan for 2 gallons per person per day.

• 3 days worth of food

• Cooler

• Ice

• Kitchenware/cleaning supplies (soap, sponge, etc.)

• Campstove

• Propane

• Warm and cool clothes. It will be HOT during the day and cool at night (hopefully)

• Camping chairs

• Canopy if you have one. The spot we will be camping doesn’t have a ton of shade, so the canopy is nice to have.

• Folding table

• Water shoes. There is a creek you have to cross when walking to the house

• Hiking boots/shoes. Most of the ground out there is uneven so make sure to pack a sturdy pair of shoes you don’t mind beating up or getting dirty.

Safety

KNOW YOUR ENVIRONMENT

• Bug spray. Bugs aren’t typically too bad out there but we do get fire ants to watch out for those.

• Sun screen. I don’t think I need to explain this one

• First aid kit (band aids, neosporin, ibuprofen, etc)

• YOUR PRESCRIPTION MEDS!!

• Essential toiletries

• Swim suit or clothes you would swim in.

• Trash bags. We operate under the leave no trace mantra, so everything you bring we must take with us when we leave. Each camper is responsible for their own trash.

• Toilet paper. There is toilet paper in the porta potties but it is good to bring extra.

• Funky fun outfits that you feel cool, comfy, and expressive in! :)

• Flow toys! Art supplies! Games! Snacks to share! Sports things!

This is Texas, it will be hot! Be ready for the heat and utilize the amazing and cool creek that runs through the property. Keep an eye out for the early signs of heat illness in yourself and your fellow glowers.

BUDDY SYSTEM

Don’t wander off without telling people where you’re going!! Check in regularly with your buddy.

Before glow be sure you tell your buddy:

- Emergency Contact Info

- Current Medications

- Allergies

- General plan for the weekend

- any other important information

EMERGENCIES

Need first-aid or a safe space to re-group? Head to the cabin!

In the event of a flood downstairs or other displacement event, if you don’t have a designated role (i.e. rescuing sound equipment or art) head to the parking lot for a head count! It’s high ground and mostly gravel.

There will be whistles located in the main areas (cabin, downstairs, and upstairs). If you need to communicate something important to glowers in another area please use the whistles and the provided whistle code.

If there is much rain, the dirt and grassy areas will turn to soup. Cars should remain in the parking lot during the event to avoid any stuck cars. Besides the risk of getting stuck, driving through the grassy and dirt areas when muddy will create ruts and tear up the grass. If you plan to sleep in your car, plan to sleep in the parking lot.

Take care of yourself :)

The following is adapted from the Freezerburn Survival Guide, thank you freezerburn for your wise words!

Taking care of yourself ensures that you have a great time!! —and that you’re not an unnecessary drain on others. This event can be physically, emotionally, and mentally draining. Be prepared. Get rest. Hydrate. Eat real food. Carry a headlamp or other lighting with you when it’s dark. Sunscreen. Stay warm at night, and cool during the day. Rest. ( ˘ ³˘)♥

A few words on mental health…

1. TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY: What happens to you physically affects you mentally. Respect your body. Drink water, wear sunscreen, and eat correctly. Take time to rest, relax, and regenerate yourself.

2. TAKE YOUR MEDICATIONS: Stay on your usual medications to better deal with added stresses, even when the temptation to take a risk, break all habits, or skip one dose arises.

3. DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP: Be as prepared as you can be. If you get into a bad space, there is help. Please don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re having a bad time. We have ALL been there, no one is going to judge you, and you’ll be better for it.

At the beginning of the weekend during the safety talk, we always have a show of hands for who is around to help if you need it. Take note, as these people will probably be best equipped to help you in crisis :)

We will also have the cabin set up as a safe space. If you find you need a safe and quiet space to re-group, the cabin is the place to do it! We will also have some basic first-aid items there should you need them. Please be sure to respect the cabin as a safe space and refrain from using it as a socializing spot.

Love this acronym too… H.A.L.T.

It stands for Hungry, Angry, Lonely, and Tired. We have to take care of our basic needs before we can inspect why we’re feeling or reacting or behaving a certain way. If you’re feeling one of those things, check in with yourself and ask what you need. Be gentle with one another. Know your limits—and err on the side of caution.
